Let's be real here; this is a sequel to a game that clearly was not a remake and was falsely marketed to people as such. Obviously lot of those people weren't too thrilled at being conned of a remake and decided not to buy this. The third game is going to sell a lot less.
The fact that both XVI and VIIRe are two of the best selling PS5 games in Japan is grim to be honest. Pretty much proves the fact that a lot of the PS5s from japan are scalped to China and SEA. With the yen being much weaker, don't think people are really that enthused to buy a PS5 now, just to play 2 games. Japan will probably shift towards PC and Switch combo. To them that is way better value than buying the PS5. Also, rather puzzling that SE's new CEO, Kiryu, is doubling down on AAA games, when it's pretty obvious that they aren't selling well at all, right now, especially the ones from SE. Why not create more budget games that are available to every fricking machine and generate as much money with less budget? What bothers me is that SE is so fricking moronic that they'd bank in hard on the 2.5D nonsense instead of creating a 3D, turn based budget game like something closer to Atlus's games.

As someone who enjoys Zack, I've been enjoying how he's not that important to the main narrative unfolding so far. It's still just FF7 with Cloud having a different version of schizo.
In Rebirth, you can take out all Zack scenes and the game doesn't change even a bit.

why is every cutscene in this game so damn silly? I swear every cutscene has some campy writing or moments added that the dev team can't be intending for people to take this seriously. Something I noticed about these remake games is that Cloud (and Zack for the most part) either looks Asian, or like a full blown White guy completely randomly from scene to scene. Like literally in different lighting Cloud is suddenly a pink skinned big nosed White guy and then in the next he has Asian eyes. Claudia is clearly a White woman so Cloud being half white might be understandable but we literally fricking see Zacks White parents and he’s clearly Asian in Remakes scene. Is it just my autism or does no one else notice this inconsistency in character design?

In JP version of OG you could trigger a debug fight against an enemy called "test 0" in the Correl Prison pit that uses the basic dog enemy model, it doesn't fight back and just replays a dialogue line asking you to spare it or something.
In rebirth they turned the pit into a fight pit and made him a boss, his AI doesn't activate until you attack him and he also has a gimmick where he plays dead to mimic the debug fight which didn't fight back.
All weapons are viable. They just have different materia slots and different special attacks that carry over to other weapons once you use them enough.
yes, its not like the game is all that difficult aside from full might summons and the gilgamesh trials. its pretty funny that the first weapon you get, the sleek blade i think, is like the best weapon throughout the entire game
If you think Remake is a slog, you're going to love Rebirth. Instead of 8 hours of content padded out to 30, it's 10 hours of content padded out to 70.
One of the streamers I had on in the background complained that she wasn't up to the enemy's levels after doing hours of "optional" content. No wonder people are saying it's padded and it doesn't sound optional at all.
You only get significant XP from side quests, you don't get much from the open world checklist stuff. However, the open world stuff is necessary to increase the party level, and to get Chadley points to get materia that I would consider essential. It's possible to skip all of it, but I wouldn't advise it.
I'm still on chapter 8? on remake, I just met aeris and we're hanging out in the poorgay area of midgard but the problem I have is that it feels like they're dragging the game just for the sake of making a longer game rather than a better game.
The bits taken from the original game are cool though and I heard the gameplay etc is better in rebirth. One thing I like a lot is the materia system in this game, especially the linking materia system.
With Remake they padded things out to justify the amount of time it took to make all the assets. In the original game, the sector 7 slums are a few still images, so it's not a big deal that you only spend 10 minutes there. In Remake they had to fully model everything, so now you need to spend 3 hours there.

Why not create more budget games that are available to every fricking machine and generate as much money with less budget? Something I noticed about these remake games is that Cloud (and Zack for the most part) either looks Asian, or like a full blown White guy completely randomly from scene to scene. It's been a while since I've played a game where unlocking a new area makes me want to stop playing for the day.
What kills me is there is really no in universe reason to do the open world collectable shit, and there's hardly any gameplay reason to. The game would have been so much better without any of the Chadley stuff, and they probably could have even finished the remake with this game. Cut out the 40+ hours of filler and just put in the rest of the game.

In JP version of OG you could trigger a debug fight against an enemy called "test 0" in the Correl Prison pit that uses the basic dog enemy model, it doesn't fight back and just replays a dialogue line asking you to spare it or something.
In rebirth they turned the pit into a fight pit and made him a boss, his AI doesn't activate until you attack him and he also has a gimmick where he plays dead to mimic the debug fight which didn't fight back.

If you think Remake is a slog, you're going to love Rebirth. Instead of 8 hours of content padded out to 30, it's 10 hours of content padded out to 70.

One of the streamers I had on in the background complained that she wasn't up to the enemy's levels after doing hours of "optional" content. No wonder people are saying it's padded and it doesn't sound optional at all.
You only get significant XP from side quests, you don't get much from the open world checklist stuff. However, the open world stuff is necessary to increase the party level, and to get Chadley points to get materia that I would consider essential. It's possible to skip all of it, but I wouldn't advise it.
I'm still on chapter 8? on remake, I just met aeris and we're hanging out in the poorgay area of midgard but the problem I have is that it feels like they're dragging the game just for the sake of making a longer game rather than a better game.
The bits taken from the original game are cool though and I heard the gameplay etc is better in rebirth. One thing I like a lot is the materia system in this game, especially the linking materia system.
With Remake they padded things out to justify the amount of time it took to make all the assets. In the original game, the sector 7 slums are a few still images, so it's not a big deal that you only spend 10 minutes there. In Remake they had to fully model everything, so now you need to spend 3 hours there.
The padding is significantly worse in Rebirth.
You can just breeze through the main story in Rebirth if you don't want to play the side content
