I liked Remake a lot but it kind of is a glorified prologue. A very elaborate, well produced prologue.
I'm not even talking about stretching a short part of the game; I'm talking about how many layers rebirth has and how much it does when it doesn't even need to. You turn around a corner and you have a fully fleshed out minigame that makes everyone in the party interact and has a fricking banger of a song that you may only maybe hear once
Compare that to the mechanical hand and all those empty hallways in part 1. Come on, you can't tell me they didn't have enough time to put a bit more effort on that
I guess Remake had to establish the basics in terms of working out the combat system and everyones movesets and whatnot. It still had some neat stuff like the bike section or that Moulin Rouge musical section at the Honey Bee Inn. There was still a lot more variety and elheart in it than in something like FF XVI for example.

From art style, to design, story, mechanics, etc. In an interview they stated that after Remake development time would speed up significantly between releases. So I imagine the final game will be out in 2-3 years. Rebirth was delayed and still released in like 3 years?

i rewatched the remake clerith scenes and its clear the devs put effort in make then look like a couple, and its quite weird how relaxed cloud is around her from the get go, he always had a soft spot for her but ofc some of it in this current timeline is because of time travel bs that happens in remake, that usual cloud stiffness is not a thing when hes around aerith, thats clearly intensional by the devs.
if you pick aerith it get obvious how the devs wrote them as a couple, maybe they keep their relationship as a tragic one but its clear that the next game will have more clerith content.

Same with how most enemy grunts you fight against have their faces masked so you don't see them as individual people but just mass of enemy forces. While dramatic battles have you fighting an actual character, like compare fighting Shinra grunts vs fighting Turk characters

It may not look like it in gameplay, but avalanche doesn't actually kill anyone, just "defeats" them. So when cloud starts losing control and murdering people in cold blood, they know it's not him acting himself. And they don't want him to fall into a dark void.

Its cause more of the OG was like a handful of screens. You just start at the doorstep of Cosmo Canyon and go in, its a small area, and then you go into the fairly short caves with the Gi and Seto. Expanding the main-story section to like 2-3 hours will make the mood feel off.

how do you typically explore in these zones? if you're going by checklist from the towers you're doing it wrong unironically because you'll be lost trying to figure out how to beeline from point A to B let alone trying to figure out how to get to some of the towers.
the way I did it was I would pick a trail and follow it and then if it branched off I would follow the branch and then double back after I was done. you'll be finding points that you can fast travel back to if you're too far gone so if you're ever in the situation where you have multiple mushroom jumps you won't feel that fricked.

The whole context around aerith's death is different in this trilogy. In the og was a tragedy and an accident, now we have a whole plotline of she dies everytime and is a constant in that universe.
I dont know what to feel about it, it adds to the tragedy but it also makes me want to change her face because that's just too shit for her, she doesnt deserves it.
I've been contemplating on that too, and my current thinking (it can change ofc) is that if she dies again in Rebirth like in the original, it won't have affected you the way the og did back when you first play it. Old players would just feel "ah shit here we go again" and then forget it in a week. There will be a ton of references and memorials for her in part 3 and probably a final posthumous battle but that won't make you feel anymore than you having been spoiled. It's different context and time.
Although for new players who only plays the Remake, they got robbed hard of that big moment.

I think Aerith knowing her future and fate is an interesting thing because it adds to her tragedy and relationship with Cloud. Every interaction she had with him had 10 different layers hidden beneath. What i dont like a lot is having fricking fate trying to kill her because her death is mandatory.
In general the whole meaning and impact of her death just are not the same because he have fate and jannies wanting her death, it loses the meaning of her death. As people say, it is just Final Destination: Aerith now. And if that is the story they want to tell i would rather have us saving her in the third game.
I theorized they thought of making the scene one to one like the original, but because the original is so iconic and everyone knows it, it wouldn't be surprising or have the same feeling as the original, so they didn't outright show it and put more emphasis on the overall story they did want to tell.
That's why so many people can watch the rebirth version and still understand what happened, because her death is so iconic and engraved in gaming culture. Her death became expected so they gave you the unexpected to not give you the same feelings but something similar.

Nah, it had an actual objective, that was to have Aerith giving him the white materia, and using the opportunity to spend her last moments with him. But the part where we'll fill it with something is only in part 3.
In the dream date Aerith gave Cloud the intact White Materia that wasn't sucked dry by Whispers. Cloud then gives it to the real world Aerith who in return gives Cloud the empty materia.
She gives it to Cloud because she knows her Holy is empty in the main world. Cloud then hands it to Aerith in the forest, gets the essence of Holy back and gives the hollow orb back to Cloud. You can see the Holy materia that falls in the water is whole again.
I know, i was talking exactly about the objective of the hollow one. Aerith isnt the type of character that would care about coming back, so that is definitely a mechanism to help Cloud. If we save Aerith in part 3, it will be because of Cloud and Zack's actions.
Unless this hollow materia is to fill up with new memories, that might call forth some unexpected stuff during the meteor crashing outcome or some other stuff. Like trapping Sephiroth inside the hollow materia lol

But i really think it is probably related to Cloud, in the same way Aerith was "complete" when she had holy, that thing will probably help Cloud get his memories back. Sephiroth cant really be imprisoned because the core of his existence isnt even himself, but Cloud, at any point in time where he remembers him.

In the OG Sephiroth/Jenova was so invested in Cloud because 16 yo grunt Cloud bested Sephiroth and threw Sephiroth in the mako pit and they then used Cloud as a tool to retrieve the black materia and bring it to Sephiroth in North Crater. You were never actually chasing Sephiroth. You were led by him/Jenova

So not that much more content if you comapare the content between Remake and Rebirth. 3 years is pretty realistic expectation

The Japs are so autistic about it that when a voice actor dies they go out of their way to stop using that character instead of just replacing the actor, and they'll only replace VA's if the property literally can't function without the character, or it sits on ice for a few decades with no new content.

And even if Aerith ends up finishing this trilogy fully alive, once Cloud regains all of memories and remembers who he is (With Tifa's help), I can't see any scenario where Aerith still willingly pursues him once the "Real" Cloud is back and it becomes obvious that his entire life's motivation is centered entierly around Tifa, and that Cloud chose to be her bodyguard long before she asked him to be hers.
You'll get a similar moment with Aerith just being happy for Cloud and her friend Tifa without a hint of jealousy, just like you got from Zack when Marlene told him Aerith liked Cloud.

I really like how they revealed more Cloud's jealous type, it happens a lot in rebirth. We only see it mentioned in ultimanias, like the scene where cloud gets upset at the idea of aerith having dates with another guy in remake.
Cloud is a lot more emotional in Rebirth, it helps his characterization.
I like that he started to enjoy the attention and praise after beating Dio when you get to Gold Saucer. It..."felt" good to see him stop pretending to be stoic for once.

There’s an unattainable scene in the OG FF7 where if your Affection levels with Aerith is at a ridiculous amount and you answer that one scene in Gongaga with jealousy, Aerith will tease Cloud and say that she is hoping that he was jealous, instead of just saying sorry for asking if he’s jealous.

Yes rebirth took those scenes and enhanced them a lot more, also spread them everywhere. I think cloud is jealous about aerith around 3-4 times in rebirth and she asks him about it at least 2 times.
If Cloud and Zack's positions were swapped there's no way he would've taken it as well. The schizo meltdown would be legendary
These small details are a good example of how the devs understand these characters, instead of just remaking the lines, they really integrated the jealous behavior into Cloud.
