I don't know why fellow clotis are hyping the kiss so much, it makes it look like Cloud only kissed her because he thought Aerith was still in love with Zack and then it's never referenced again. It has the same impact as the dog side mission in Junon. Then the next chapters Cloud is all about Aerith.
It would be much better if they hugged at most and then got intimate in game three after Cloud recovers his memories. Now she'll never beat the second option allegations, no matter if Aerith stays dead.

the context of him asking about Aerith is because tifa said she would talk to her about Zacks death. When she said she did not Cloud assumed it was because she still liked Zack and it would be hard for her to hear the news. It had nothing to do with romance

It makes perfect sense, in the OG there was the option to say "poor guy" or Cloud being "jealous, envious". This time they made it the only option.
It makes Cloud even more of an butthole. You don't bring up another girl and say shit like "she must still not be over her ex, huh?" when you're on a date lol. It was a rebound kiss and Tifa having no backbone and falling for shit like that is one of her character traits until she had to become the party leader later on and got the ONS from Cloud so I guess it makes sense?
Between this and how it's never referenced again (kisses in FF are always a big deal) it really feels like it's the one date that can't be canon. All the others make sense within story.

Tifa can literally solo this game even on Hard. Her Multiplayer on staggered enemies is still just as broken as it was on Remake. Any boss that give you problem just try to stagger it and then switch to Tifa and melt away his life in seconds. Even better if you got a maxed out Time materia to use Stop.

The timelines are nothing more than an excuse to bring dead people back to life.

The timelines will converge and this will be the only remaining one. The most obvious thing is the one they're going to go with. The Remake timeline will be the only extant one by the end of 3. This also means new spinoffs, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is done parallel with an announcement of a "New Compliation Series" and they start announcing remade spinoffs. No one has too many nice things to say about AC or DoC and this means they can remake those as well.

So Cloud's consciousness is in the Schrodinger's Cat dimension where he's in some sort of interstice between worlds where he does/doesn't deflect Sephiroth? Honestly one of the coolest concepts I've seen in multiverse garbage if so.
I think there's some slight nuance I'm missing because despite Cloud flipping between being able to & not being able to see Aerith the other characters are still mourning Aerith either way so he's not seeing some alternate versions of them in an Aerith lives timeline, only Aerith. Either way I'm confident it has more to do with convergence/overlapping of worlds than simple unreliable narrator shenanigans. Overall despite not really liking how they went full Rebuild of Evangelion in part 1 I think it was handled better in this one and I'm cautiously optimistic about part 3.

It’s a completely different game from the original so it’s hard to compare but it’s up there with other 3rd person ARPGs like Dark Souls and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for me.

Oh, there's your problem. The resolution is too high because the entire picture is aligned vertically, meaning the vertical resolution is outrageous. Try arranging it in columns with two rows.
The main Aerith LIVED, the main Aerith is where Cloud deflects the sword and stops Sephiroth from killing her. After Sephiroth fuses the world together a different Aerith replaced her, one who died in another timeline. After Cloud stopped the confluence of world, our Aerith is stuck in the different timeline.
Sephiroth assumably can’t take it himself and he’s using Cloud to bring it to his physical body in the Northern Crater while fooling everyone else into thinking he already has it so they don’t try to stop Cloud.

Aertih by contrast was living with her mom and basically just drifting, Tifa lost her parents and has a lot of baggage but for a woman she has a remarkable amount of impetus. She basically did everything on her own, she met Avalanche, got involved with them, made friends, apparently fricked someone or at least considered dating, learned to fight on her own, ran the bar on her own, etc.

The "Alternate timelines" aren't like MCU they're unconscious worlds made of memories/desires in the lifesteam (theorized in-game by a hippie in cosmo canyon) which is why Aerith refers to it as a "Homecoming", (remember how that word was used leading uo to this scene?) and says to call it a dream.
Sephiroth wants to merge these worlds with the real world (Basically griffith merging the astral plane but on crack) because they're all fleeting/dying and he wants to despairmax because he feeds off of negative emotions for some reason but Aerith Hijacks this plan by allowing Cloud to manifest his desired world where she is saved and converge it with the "real" world which will instill hope in Cloud and prevent Sephiroth from despairmaxing.

It's going to be about accepting loss healthily without falling into despair or filling yourself with rage, just like she said in the temple after everyone's trials.
That's the main point of the debate. The fanbase in currently split between two camps, those who think Cloud saved Aerith and is now seeing multiple timelines at once (including the one where she's alive + the rift in the sky) and those who think he failed to save Aerith because Sephiroth merged the timelines to undo Cloud saving her and killed her and Cloud is going happy schizo thinking he saved her.

Probably the best argument about all of this. The only story that i saw having fate as a theme and at the end doing nothing about it was fricking FF15. And narrative was never the strong point of it.

Can you really have the same emotional impact for a scene every already knows? It worked in the bubble of time it came out because nobody saw it coming but due to the game giving you the choice of who you interact with or not it’s inherently flawed as a concept since most people actively avoid Aerith and invest emotionally and in gameplay in Tifa instead since they know she’s the one that survives, making the entire thing utterly pointless in retrospect. The remake trilogy is a love story first and foremost unlike the original and the plot elements align around two star-crossed lovers reuniting despite being separated by fate itself. The sooner you acknowledge that this isn’t a straight retelling of the original game the sooner you can finally acknowledge why the story is different for better or worse. Either way, plugging your ears and braying about the changes isn’t going to change anything and the new games don’t stop the original game from existing or even being relevant to the new story for Christ’s sake

I do not give one iota of a focus that it's a sequel. It's still 90% retreading the original game but with lots of expansion on top, if they want to have the sequel elements they should be adding onto the story that they're mostly retelling instead of randomly undermining the entire thing with "oh Cloud saved her in one timeline and now Omnipotent Aerith is aiding him while she may be dead in one timeline and alive in another". Axing the water burial, having her literally just open her eyes from her death and everything, undermines the entire point. And the story knows it, Cloud doesn't go into the Jenova Lifeclinger fight with a Limit Break like everyone else does because he's not as pissed as the rest are.
It doesn't matter that it's a sequel, it sure as FRICK was never actually billed as a sequel even if we knew this as soon as Remake ended. This shit is still being marketed and sold as the retelling of the original that people waited for.

This new trilogy is a good example how the average person only cares about the events but not the execution/meaning of it, this is a sequel in every way possible because the whole concept of it is relying in being a follow up of the og story. The way Aerith's death was changed as you said is the perfect example of it. The answer is more about how they will change her fate but also keep old fans who want the original story happy. The different timelines are converging, there will be 1 by the end of Part 3. Sephiroth himself says it very clearly. The plan is to make a happy ending and this will include decanonizing the original from a timeline perspective. It will have never happened in their 1 remaining universe. Everyone will be alive and it will be used to start a new Compliation since they will want to make more games and that gives them the best opportunity.
Pretty much, this is a sequel, ending it like OG or even AC would be pointless.

I was ~48 when I entered temple of the ancients, and then after finishing that, all sidequests, and arena/simulator I was level 70 before touching any Hard Mode chapters or Brutal/Legendary challenges.

No one has too many nice things to say about AC or DoC and this means they can remake those as well.

So Cloud's consciousness is in the Schrodinger's Cat dimension where he's in some sort of interstice between worlds where he does/doesn't deflect Sephiroth? Honestly one of the coolest concepts I've seen in multiverse garbage if so.
I think there's some slight nuance I'm missing because despite Cloud flipping between being able to & not being able to see Aerith the other characters are still mourning Aerith either way so he's not seeing some alternate versions of them in an Aerith lives timeline, only Aerith. Either way I'm confident it has more to do with convergence/overlapping of worlds than simple unreliable narrator shenanigans. Overall despite not really liking how they went full Rebuild of Evangelion in part 1 I think it was handled better in this one and I'm cautiously optimistic about part 3.

Tifa would suck Cloud dry if he let her but also she can function without him. They separated for years and tifa didn't know if she'd ever see him again and she seemed to be doing fine. She had dudes expressing interest in her, Nomura made the weird decision to confirm Aerith is a virgin(but not her), she made friends with Barrett on her own, and now she's more assertive. If Cloud would just definitely turn her down she'd probably honestly just get over it. It's how they're characterized in AC that puts such a wet blanket on their relationship. He basically held her emotionally hostage like a dependent clown and even has her babysitting his adopted kid while he just fricks off and never calls her.

Everyone has issues, my point is Tifa is pretty independent and has likely done everything important in life without Cloud. She didn't just sit around waiting for him to come back, she went out and started making her own life. Aertih by contrast was living with her mom and basically just drifting, Tifa lost her parents and has a lot of baggage but for a woman she has a remarkable amount of impetus. She basically did everything on her own, she met Avalanche, got involved with them, made friends, apparently fricked someone or at least considered dating, learned to fight on her own, ran the bar on her own, etc.

In one of Zack's timelines she's literally dead because of it. The "Alternate timelines" aren't like MCU they're unconscious worlds made of memories/desires in the lifesteam (theorized in-game by a hippie in cosmo canyon) which is why Aerith refers to it as a "Homecoming", (remember how that word was used leading uo to this scene?) and says to call it a dream.
Sephiroth wants to merge these worlds with the real world (Basically griffith merging the astral plane but on crack) because they're all fleeting/dying and he wants to despairmax because he feeds off of negative emotions for some reason but Aerith Hijacks this plan by allowing Cloud to manifest his desired world where she is saved and converge it with the "real" world which will instill hope in Cloud and prevent Sephiroth from despairmaxing.

It's silly to dismiss Zack's involvement in the story. Obviously Cloud is in the driver's seat, but Zack's importance is undeniable now with how heavily featured he is in Rebirth. If Zack's fate were sealed to be the same as the original's, then they wouldn't have shown 2 universes of Zacks.
When did i dismiss his involvement, i just stated something very obvious. Aerith and our party are talking about 2 fricking games of how we will create our own destiny. That theme is even more present with our party than in Zack's plotline.

The fans WANTED the same story, only some deranged shippers wanted changes. The most well received remakes (the recent Resident Evil games) kept everything almost beat for beat and they were all hits.
Japanese audiences probably wanted Aerith to live and if we're being honest about Japanese people, they don't give a shit what anyone else thinks. The opinions of Western fans don't mean anything to Japanese creators. Given her popularity I'd imagine most Japanese players are very keen on seeing her resurrected.

Probably the best argument about all of this. The only story that i saw having fate as a theme and at the end doing nothing about it was fricking FF15. And narrative was never the strong point of it.
Can you really have the same emotional impact for a scene every already knows? It worked in the bubble of time it came out because nobody saw it coming but due to the game giving you the choice of who you interact with or not it’s inherently flawed as a concept since most people actively avoid Aerith and invest emotionally and in gameplay in Tifa instead since they know she’s the one that survives, making the entire thing utterly pointless in retrospect. You guys are forgetting this is a sequel and the theme isn’t even the same of the original game to begin with. The remake trilogy is a love story first and foremost unlike the original and the plot elements align around two star-crossed lovers reuniting despite being separated by fate itself. The sooner you acknowledge that this isn’t a straight retelling of the original game the sooner you can finally acknowledge why the story is different for better or worse. Either way, plugging your ears and braying about the changes isn’t going to change anything and the new games don’t stop the original game from existing or even being relevant to the new story for Christ’s sake
I do not give one iota of a focus that it's a sequel. It's still 90% retreading the original game but with lots of expansion on top, if they want to have the sequel elements they should be adding onto the story that they're mostly retelling instead of randomly undermining the entire thing with "oh Cloud saved her in one timeline and now Omnipotent Aerith is aiding him while she may be dead in one timeline and alive in another". Axing the water burial, having her literally just open her eyes from her death and everything, undermines the entire point. And the story knows it, Cloud doesn't go into the Jenova Lifeclinger fight with a Limit Break like everyone else does because he's not as pissed as the rest are.
It doesn't matter that it's a sequel, it sure as FRICK was never actually billed as a sequel even if we knew this as soon as Remake ended. This shit is still being marketed and sold as the retelling of the original that people waited for.

The different timelines are converging, there will be 1 by the end of Part 3. Sephiroth himself says it very clearly. The plan is to make a happy ending and this will include decanonizing the original from a timeline perspective. It will have never happened in their 1 remaining universe. Everyone will be alive and it will be used to start a new Compliation since they will want to make more games and that gives them the best opportunity.
Pretty much, this is a sequel, ending it like OG or even AC would be pointless.

Yeah that's my biggest problem with it. The totality of it really winds up being that Cloud abuses her desire for a relationship as a form of emotional dependency and she is trapped by it. You can blame her as well, but it's an obvious situation wherein she wanted more and he just didn't.

I still get a kick out of how Last Order had to pretend he was somehow having a Mako SOLDIER glow in his eyes to justify hurling Sephiroth like an butthole, and then Sephiroth jumps on his own. I think that seeing what Hojo did to Cloud is one of the things i want to see adapted the most in this trilogy.
At this point I think only AC, DoC and CC are canon-canon, with maybe elements of BC and the extra books that had shit like Lifestream Aerith. Because the new trilogy is very wishy-washy with stuff and even forgets its own continuity, like accidentally forgetting Tifa's scar should've been totally treated with skin grafts yet making it a plot point in Rebirth that she still has a notable scar anyway.

Honestly it's stupid to make a blanket statement for the whole matter. Remake was rough as frick, Rebirth refined a lot of shit and I will say that the good battles are damn good. How you think the open world is quality-wise is entirely a personal thing since some will fricking hate it and some will love it. The OG 7 is simplistic and straightforward enough to be a great compact JRPG experience by comparison to this, but those who want a lot more "meat" gets it in spades.
Old good new bad is not something I can strictly apply because both OG and nu have upsides and downsides, but fanboys like Max shouldn't really be trusted at face value.

To be clear, when I said "normal" I meant all the combat challenges in all categories available during the first playthrough. With the EXP Up materia equipped preferably.(This is found in the final dungeon)
I was ~48 when I entered temple of the ancients, and then after finishing that, all sidequests, and arena/simulator I was level 70 before touching any Hard Mode chapters or Brutal/Legendary challenges.
I understood. I'm 48~ after doing all sims, arenas, and all sidequests except the last chocobo race cup quest and QB match.

You should hit 70 just by clearing out the normal mode battle square and combat sim.

I think I remember like only one time he laugh-laughs in FF7 OG after joking about the Turks trying to recruit her for SOLDIER, and otherwise he's mostly just an aloof oddball that tried to act cooler than he really was. They definitely made him more of a grump and an butthole in the new stuff.
