They've already said they're not remaking DoC until after part 3 because it spoils a lot of the ending of 7.
They've also said multiple times the entire purpose of the Intermission release was to a) get Yuffie involved in the story, b) getting the team accustomed to working with the PS5 architecture, and c) to upgrade Remake so that it has a full PS5 release, since they want customers to be able to play the entire trilogy on 1 single generation of hardware.
Vincent and Cid are already involved in the story, the team is already comfortable with PS5 architecture, and a PS6 is no where in sight so an upgraded version is basically useless.
A meaningful story DLC like the Yuffie stuff isn't happening

So i think they imagined a possible scenario of people despising the ending and direction of it.
I don't think people despise the ending, rather they come off confused as frick at first. But they got exactly what they wanted, us talking about it for weeks now. Hell we will debate this ending for years. If it was simple and sucked we wouldn't talk about it. And besides, I don't count cliffhangers as "endings." Until part three concludes then we will be able to fully judge the ending
The reception is leagues better than things like remake, as example. It's also different because rebirth is a really good game so a controversial ending like that doesnt bite as much. The game that cant do too many misteries or frick up at the end is the third one.
I hope that the DLC for FF16 actually explains the ending. God I hate open ended endings, especially when theres no chance we are getting a direct sequel.
Theres no other timelines, it's lifestream branch created by cloud that it is doomed, and will come to play later with it dying once cloud accepts her death.

We will don't know Biggs' fate. He already "died" once and got sent to another timeline in isekai fashion, just like Zack. Zack also died in the scene alongside Biggs, but hes later shown to be fine, or at least another version of him. With all the branching timelines, and isekai frickery, Biggs will probably show up again. We also never got Jessie's headband explained, since that should not exist in Terrier world.

The only one that can interact with her and see the sky is Cloud. He thinks she's alive. That's why he doesn't even notice Tifa is upset. From his point of view she's ok and going back to pray while they hunt down Sephiroth.
She also says a lot of things she hasn't said before, like how she will leave the rest to them.
Now if that means it's her ghost or Cloud can interact with a timeline where she is still alive, that's unclear. From the point of view of the rest of team it's the same, he looks deluded and in denial.

Sephiroth very specifically mentions it to everyone during the temple in chapter 13 at the hell gate fight, and again during chapter 14 when everyone first arrives at the FC. >Why are her and Cloud making a promise to one another when she told him to focus on himself?
The promise is only in the english translation, but it was likely to tie into the whole "no promises to keep" thing.

The original game didn't have alternate timelines which we clearly see her fate was split into. A version of her was saved and woke up. The rainbows are pretty obvious. The rainbows are constantly shown around Zack, who we know does not have Jenova cells., so its impossible to say the rainbows are Jenova's doing. Cloud and Aerith spoke and strategized offscreen since Cloud seems very aware of where shes going and what her plan is. Shes probably heading to the Forgotten Capital, but it really doesn't matter since Cloud knows where to go for when she "sends up smoke."

Look at what happened in Rebirth.
The death scene in the original basically had no actual purpose. Sephiroth did it because he's a dick and sort of maybe knew Aerith might be able to stop her, but it's not actually ever clear why he kills her.
In Rebirth it is very explicitly said that his goal in killing her is to create a confluence of emotions which will kickstart the reunion of worlds, and is doing this by tricking Cloud into having two massively conflicting emotions - joy at saving her, and utter despair at realizing he failed. The twist of emotions was intended to drop him into despair so much that he turned into a black robe right then and there, something that the game explicitly shows happening with Roche once he fully falls into despair, and with the Kalm inn owner as well.
They were setting it up that the new moment of Cloud psyche snapping is Aeriths death, not handing over the black materia to Sephiroth.
OG-Aerith prevents this by gaslighting Cloud into thinking she's still alive so that Sephiroth doesn't immediately win right there, and since she's actually dead and can't do much else, she has to rely on Tifa and the rest to carry Cloud through the next legs of the journey.

Well correct. It feels like we are seeing the ending in Aerith's POV and seeing her feelings expressed in the final moments. To think shes Jenova is just absurd. The evidence is so underwhelming. The face thing can be debunked in minutes by just comparing the models side by side. How does calling back to the last time they said goodbye to each other mean shes Jenova and just recycling old lines (which is immediately followed by new lines)? Instead its a callback to the fact that the previous goodbye was shortlived and they are immediately reunited moments after. It keeps with the themes in the game where nptk and loveless foreshadows that they are destined to be reunited.

Max isn't really pushing a ship in a particular direction. He seems pretty clear that its a lovetriangle.
His theory crafting just sucks. He based his Remake theories off others, and then said "See chat I was right about Remake!" and now expects others to flock to his Rebirth theory.
To understand the ending, you have to understand that Sephiroth and Aerith have consciousness that persist in the Lifestream that are from the events of after OG7 and arguably after AC.
You also need to understand that, like Jenova/Sephiroth, that version of Aerith (Prime Aerith, Omni Aerith, OG Aerith, whatever you wanna call her) can influence Clouds mind. It's not explained how or why yet, but there are multiple parts throughout the game that make it clear that some version of Aerith is able to cause Cloud to hallucinate similar to how Jenova/Sephiroth are able to cause Cloud to hallucinate.
Now that you understand that, you have to take a new look at the death/save scene to fully understand what is happening.
At that moment, Sephiroth/Jenova causes cloud to hallucinate that he saved Aerith, when the reality is she died. This was an intention rugpull created by Sephiroth/Jenova, to spike Clouds emotions and cause the confluence of emotions/worlds to begin.
However, and this is the important bit, the mask was supposed to fall. The rug was supposed to be pulled out from under him. Instead, OG Aerith 'cemented' the fake memories as his real memories, so that Cloud quite literally thinks he saved Aerith. He's fully unaware that she is dead.
What this means is that going into part 3 he will be his normal awkward kinda chipper self, and eventually it will be revealed to Cloud, and the player, what actually happened, and it will cause Cloud to slip fully into a Sephiroth puppet. This will likely be as a result of either Barret or Tifa finally being sick of his attitude like nothing happened and they start grilling him until the memories actually surface.
The Aerith that Cloud is talking to at the end of the game is quite literally the OG Aerith that is living in the life stream and has been living in the life stream since she died in the original game. She is having a final conversation wtih cloud that she never got to have in the original.

Whether it's moronic or not, the logic is there. Sephiroth is in that moment specifically trying to cause a bunch of conficting emotions in Cloud, which is why he causes Cloud to hallucinate that he saved Aerith. OG-Aerith then 1-ups Sephiroth and keeps the metaphorical rug under Clouds feet while Sephiroth keeps trying to yank it away.
And when Sephiroth finally is able to get to the point where he can break Cloud, and Cloud/Sephiroth are having a duel inside of Clouds mind, OG-Aerith appears from within the lifestream and helps Cloud out. And while she's emerging from the lifestream, Sephiroth specifically says he "underestimated [her]."
It's all pointing to OG-Aerith somehow able to keep Clouds mind in tact so that he didn't break into despair and become a black robe right then and there. It's a bandaid temporary fix that is giving Tifa and the rest of the team a little bit longer before Cloud completely snaps.

Look at what happened in Rebirth.
The death scene in the original basically had no actual purpose. Sephiroth did it because he's a dick and sort of maybe knew Aerith might be able to stop her, but it's not actually ever clear why he kills her.
In Rebirth it is very explicitly said that his goal in killing her is to create a confluence of emotions which will kickstart the reunion of worlds, and is doing this by tricking Cloud into having two massively conflicting emotions - joy at saving her, and utter despair at realizing he failed. The twist of emotions was intended to drop him into despair so much that he turned into a black robe right then and there, something that the game explicitly shows happening with Roche once he fully falls into despair, and with the Kalm inn owner as well.
They were setting it up that the new moment of Cloud psyche snapping is Aeriths death, not handing over the black materia to Sephiroth.
OG-Aerith prevents this by gaslighting Cloud into thinking she's still alive so that Sephiroth doesn't immediately win right there, and since she's actually dead and can't do much else, she has to rely on Tifa and the rest to carry Cloud through the next legs of the journey.

Presumably to stop Sephiroth from winning right then and there and to give Cloud and Co a bit longer to figure out how to actually stop him.
She should be aware of it.
Put it this way, Omni Aerith at the last moment realized what Sephiroth was doing with Rebirth Aeriths death, and in a last ditch quick fix attempt she gaslit Cloud into thinking she's still alive, knowing full well that eventually that mask will slip and cause a huge mess of issues. But the important part is that as a result of her gaslighting Cloud in that moment, Sephiroth wasn't able to take control of Cloud.

Nothing I'm saying contradicts that. He's still going to the norther crater, he's still going to hand over the black materia to Sephiroth. It's just instead of him handing the materia to Sephiroth acting as the break of his psyche, it's going to involve the truth of Aeriths death being revealed that breaks his psyche, which will lead him to giving Sephiroth the black materia.
The same thing still happens, it's just slightly different how it goes about getting to it, which is how they've approached pretty much the entire Remake trilogy so far.

But we know from Roche and the Kalm dude that falling deep into despair is what triggers the transformation into a black robe, and once you're a black robe you're basically just a mindless husk trying to get to the northern crater to reunite with jenova/sephiroth.
Sephiroth on multiple occasions says he wants to pluge Cloud into depths of despair he'll never be able to get out of.

A massive amount of the plot hinges around the fact that Tifa is too afraid of calling him out on his obviously wrong memories, and that's during the Midgar shit.
It's not contrived at all that the group that has seen Cloud descending more and more into madness while mostly just ignoring it other than Barret saying something every now and then, will continue to ignore his desending into madness especially after Aerith just died.
Especially if it ends up how I think it will, and that it will eventually be Barret who can't take it anymore and just unloads on Cloud and starts yelling at him about how Aerith is dead and how Cloud failed to saved him, which will trigger the memories and will trigger his actual psyche split. And it will probably happen towards the end of the initial time through the Northern Crater, so that it leads directly into Cloud giving Sephiroth the Black Materia.

They've also said multiple times the entire purpose of the Intermission release was to a) get Yuffie involved in the story, b) getting the team accustomed to working with the PS5 architecture, and c) to upgrade Remake so that it has a full PS5 release, since they want customers to be able to play the entire trilogy on 1 single generation of hardware.
Vincent and Cid are already involved in the story, the team is already comfortable with PS5 architecture, and a PS6 is no where in sight so an upgraded version is basically useless.

Is it the meteor? There are infinite Aeriths/White materia/Holy. Is it life fertility? Zack's world has dying flowers, but they are later shown to start regrowing in the garden. Doom worlds can escape fate. And no character is bound to live in a specific world.
What part of Zack saying "but who is to say they can't merge again" wasn't clear enough. Sephiroth wanted to merge the timelines but you defeat him. That's why Cloud can still see the weird sky.

The only one that can interact with her and see the sky is Cloud. He thinks she's alive. That's why he doesn't even notice Tifa is upset. From his point of view she's ok and going back to pray while they hunt down Sephiroth.

Now if that means it's her ghost or Cloud can interact with a timeline where she is still alive, that's unclear. From the point of view of the rest of team it's the same, he looks deluded and in denial.

Cloud and Aerith spoke and strategized offscreen since Cloud seems very aware of where shes going and what her plan is. Shes probably heading to the Forgotten Capital, but it really doesn't matter since Cloud knows where to go for when she "sends up smoke."

Aerith is shown to be able to instantly cure Cloud from any delusion. Just by touching him she breaks him free, while other characters like Tifa or Barret have to struggle and sometimes harm Cloud to snap him out of it.

Well correct. It feels like we are seeing the ending in Aerith's POV and seeing her feelings expressed in the final moments. To think shes Jenova is just absurd. The evidence is so underwhelming. The face thing can be debunked in minutes by just comparing the models side by side. How does calling back to the last time they said goodbye to each other mean shes Jenova and just recycling old lines (which is immediately followed by new lines)? Instead its a callback to the fact that the previous goodbye was shortlived and they are immediately reunited moments after. It keeps with the themes in the game where nptk and loveless foreshadows that they are destined to be reunited.

To understand the ending, you have to understand that Sephiroth and Aerith have consciousness that persist in the Lifestream that are from the events of after OG7 and arguably after AC.
You also need to understand that, like Jenova/Sephiroth, that version of Aerith (Prime Aerith, Omni Aerith, OG Aerith, whatever you wanna call her) can influence Clouds mind. It's not explained how or why yet, but there are multiple parts throughout the game that make it clear that some version of Aerith is able to cause Cloud to hallucinate similar to how Jenova/Sephiroth are able to cause Cloud to hallucinate.
Now that you understand that, you have to take a new look at the death/save scene to fully understand what is happening.
At that moment, Sephiroth/Jenova causes cloud to hallucinate that he saved Aerith, when the reality is she died. This was an intention rugpull created by Sephiroth/Jenova, to spike Clouds emotions and cause the confluence of emotions/worlds to begin.
However, and this is the important bit, the mask was supposed to fall. The rug was supposed to be pulled out from under him. Instead, OG Aerith 'cemented' the fake memories as his real memories, so that Cloud quite literally thinks he saved Aerith. He's fully unaware that she is dead.
What this means is that going into part 3 he will be his normal awkward kinda chipper self, and eventually it will be revealed to Cloud, and the player, what actually happened, and it will cause Cloud to slip fully into a Sephiroth puppet. This will likely be as a result of either Barret or Tifa finally being sick of his attitude like nothing happened and they start grilling him until the memories actually surface.
The Aerith that Cloud is talking to at the end of the game is quite literally the OG Aerith that is living in the life stream and has been living in the life stream since she died in the original game. She is having a final conversation wtih cloud that she never got to have in the original.

Whether it's moronic or not, the logic is there. Sephiroth is in that moment specifically trying to cause a bunch of conficting emotions in Cloud, which is why he causes Cloud to hallucinate that he saved Aerith. OG-Aerith then 1-ups Sephiroth and keeps the metaphorical rug under Clouds feet while Sephiroth keeps trying to yank it away.
And when Sephiroth finally is able to get to the point where he can break Cloud, and Cloud/Sephiroth are having a duel inside of Clouds mind, OG-Aerith appears from within the lifestream and helps Cloud out. And while she's emerging from the lifestream, Sephiroth specifically says he "underestimated [her]."
It's all pointing to OG-Aerith somehow able to keep Clouds mind in tact so that he didn't break into despair and become a black robe right then and there. It's a bandaid temporary fix that is giving Tifa and the rest of the team a little bit longer before Cloud completely snaps.
Cloud doesn't get mind broken by Aerith's death, he is mindbroken by giving Sephiroth the Black Materia

The death scene in the original basically had no actual purpose. Sephiroth did it because he's a dick and sort of maybe knew Aerith might be able to stop her, but it's not actually ever clear why he kills her.
In Rebirth it is very explicitly said that his goal in killing her is to create a confluence of emotions which will kickstart the reunion of worlds, and is doing this by tricking Cloud into having two massively conflicting emotions - joy at saving her, and utter despair at realizing he failed. The twist of emotions was intended to drop him into despair so much that he turned into a black robe right then and there, something that the game explicitly shows happening with Roche once he fully falls into despair, and with the Kalm inn owner as well.
They were setting it up that the new moment of Cloud psyche snapping is Aeriths death, not handing over the black materia to Sephiroth.
OG-Aerith prevents this by gaslighting Cloud into thinking she's still alive so that Sephiroth doesn't immediately win right there, and since she's actually dead and can't do much else, she has to rely on Tifa and the rest to carry Cloud through the next legs of the journey.

The same thing still happens, it's just slightly different how it goes about getting to it, which is how they've approached pretty much the entire Remake trilogy so far.

A massive amount of the plot hinges around the fact that Tifa is too afraid of calling him out on his obviously wrong memories, and that's during the Midgar shit.
It's not contrived at all that the group that has seen Cloud descending more and more into madness while mostly just ignoring it other than Barret saying something every now and then, will continue to ignore his desending into madness especially after Aerith just died.
Especially if it ends up how I think it will, and that it will eventually be Barret who can't take it anymore and just unloads on Cloud and starts yelling at him about how Aerith is dead and how Cloud failed to saved him, which will trigger the memories and will trigger his actual psyche split. And it will probably happen towards the end of the initial time through the Northern Crater, so that it leads directly into Cloud giving Sephiroth the Black Materia.

to be fair, Jenova has the ability to deceive any person using their memories of people familiar to them, not just SOLDIERs. It's one of the reasons mentioned as to why she wiped out the Cetra.

But seeing that she actually teleports it is clear that it's not the case. That's lifestream Aerith, 100%.
