The model comparisons they showed had the same mesh but different textures. Those were also mockups they made in a really short time just to give an idea of what they're aiming for. Which is a wild decision because everyone is just going to assume that's what it will look like.

Stats balancing and not having ten different sources of valid endgame gear to annoy everyone from casual to hardcore. Not to mention it would be a waste of money because after a while everyone gonna calculate BiS and minmax as usual. They kinda tried it before in Heavensward through Diadem and it was the cherry on top an entire shitshow.
They're stuck between a rock and a hard place with it. You can't have wowzer unique effect gear while still doing the WoW-style item level cap raising every six months.
Easy solution is to just stop raising the item level and experiment with horizontal gearing. But they don't want to do that because the WoWfugees would mald if their new gear didn't let them faceroll year-old content effortlessly.

The only thing he is right about in any of his rambling is that the gearing system in XIV is extremely boring, to the point where it actually negatively affects a large part of the game. But his ideas are fricking awful and there is no real reason to change shit about it this far into the games lifespan, so the devs might aswell just use it like a difficulty modifier and decouple it from the rest of the game like they are already doing.

There is no 'original' timeline. All possible worlds and timelines exist simultaneously in the Interdimensional Rift. The only time travel possible is closed loop travel like you see in Endwalker. Nu-G'raha's timeline exists in an entirely different universe that happens to be easily reachable via the rift.
When we visited elpis we didnt time travel. We just saw the memories of the (You) that once time traveled there. But you didnt do it. Thats why you cant change anything and its being told to you.

The best meld sets will crush anything. The mid-tier ones will be good enough to craft everything with food and pots. The budget sets are usually as good as the mid-tier but you might have a bad craft here and there due to condition RNG prior to byregot's blessing.
IMO you should meld all the armor to best tier for some wiggle room when the new crafting set recipes come out and meld the tools to budget or mid-tier.
No. You can do it with AR-Caean gear. But you said you only had ALC capped so it's probably more feasible to buy the pactmaker gear or have someone make it for you. If you have omnicrafter friends, bring them the mats and ask them to make you a set.
there's a discord called The Balance for it. the quality of posting is low but there's good guides for math stuff. There's also Icyveins & SaltedXIV for the same ass guides from the discord but I'm not sure how updated they are.

Nobody gives a single shit about how good or bad you do in any content that people normally queue for. Normal raids, 24-man raids, Dungeons, Normal trials. 99% of the people that are ever in there with you don't even acknowledge that you exist.
Every mechanic is either 100% telegraphed or has an actual 10 second cast time. Make the boss cast bar twice as big and in the middle of your screen and learn to recognize spell names.
People die CONSTANTLY in normal raids. Healers especially. If you play a Red Mage or Summoner (or healer) everyone will fill your butthole with comms every single run unless it went off with no problems, in which case you have nothing to worry about anyway.
Save your weird ass nervousness for Extremes and beyond, anything that you fill through the PF.

First raid tier, the first 2 turns were done in the first 2 days but for 5 days straight, party finder got hard filtered by P3S to where I couldn't clear it until the third week when prog groups were filled with the lowest tier of player

RPR is flawed at its core because even though it's incredibly well designed and very smooth to play the gauge holds it back.
You ideally want to go into every 2 minute buff window with an enshroud and 50 soul gauge to keep up with the other jobs but if there's any downtime where you can't build gauge you're fricked and behind the other jobs.
downtime sucks, but it sucks for everyone. it honestly doesn't feel that bad on reaper since it's very easy to fix from what i've seen this tier. it gets weird after adds in p3s though, but who actually likes p3s? >t. oranges on all savage fights this tier
outside of a few potency tweaks, i would like to see threshold's buff timer increased a bit because i'm a lazy sack of shit, and portal shenanigans is fun
the problem is that if you come back from downtime without 50 shroud or 50 soul you're wasting a GCD and waiting on the timer for arcane circle to let you morb and burst DPS when you should be getting two of those in a 2 minute window
Sure you could hold a minute shroud burst window in a previous phase but that puts you way behind the other DPS who did their minute burst window on CD
DRG shares that drawback, they need to be exact in their mirage dives and nastrond windows so that lance charge lines up with sight and litany, any significant downtime forces them to choose between withholding a window or misaligning the 120s buffs.

Is it even profitable to do ugly races or job restricted races in an MMO? Years ago I always dreamed of an Ivalice MMORPG but after I started actually playing an MMO I realized what a mess it would be. 90% of the players would be Vieras or Grias. Maybe I could see some playing Bangaa or Nu Mou and Seeq would have to have some broken exclusive job for people to play as them.

potentially, personally I think they should give Wildfire the ability to crit (or even auto crit) and it should be AoE like in PvP to make it useful against dungeon mobs
I'd also make the Automaton Queen more responsive and maybe give MCH a meditate ability so it can build battery during downtime so they don't lose so much dps in specific raids
There's absolutely no reason why wildfire doesn't do at least 40% damage in an aoe by this point, and the way it works in pvp is just proving that the concept already exists. Automaton queen also still feels very clunky in aoes, I was hopeful for an aoe automaton king to round out the old rook/bishop lineup.
I never thought I'd say it, but I miss the old SB heat gauge. Balancing the heat without going over took at least some brainpower, and using flamethrower to instantly overheat when you wanted to for wildfire was some neat tech, and gave it some non-dungeon use.
the problem with flamethrower was that it was a latency nightmare even if you had good ping, not to mention you had absolutely no way to manage the guage until the mid 60s, meaning that your burst was basically a crapshoot until then, to make it even more unintuitive, in early SB, overheating was a dps loss because the devs are morons
SB MCH had potential but goddamn was it a fricking mess and it was so rigid that pressing the wrong button could snowball you badly down the line
ShB MCH onwards is overally simplicstic and I wish it had a bit more depth, but at least it works without without having to rely on flamethrower not fricking up

That would require effort in how they design their big boss fights or gameplay in general. Deviating from their tried and true formula? Can't have that so you will get streamlined jobs to fit that mold and you better like it.
I legitimately think that multiclassing is on the table once the game stops cranking out MSQ and new jobs as horizontal progression. May take another 5-6 years, but they could have some really fun things planned for when job balance isn't as important.

We're not all that strong to begin with, at least not on a cosmic sense. Most of our killing blows have come from external powers that never stick with us, and the one time it comes to a 1v1 with a greater power, we take enough damage to die 3 times.

how do people manage to get "rusty" at this game? fights and using your rotation on them are a matter of muscle memory. When you say rusty, you'd usually use it in regards of execution such as your aim in a FPS. In this game, you're literally just going off of an elaborate script.
Most I can think of is forgetting a mechanic or two, which I get since i've been there. Not consistently, only when I "remembered".
I fixed my stuff since then, though, now I do everything in the proper order.
I think part of the problem is that I feel Black Mage is a job whose rotation changes violently from expansion to expansion and so I never settled into a rhythm where new parts kept getting added, I always felt like I was having to reinvent the wheel. All the other jobs I've leveled, I feel like I more or less have a knowledge of all to use all the parts of it well as I unlock them. Maybe I really fricked up by looking at Flare in ARR, seeing it did AoE damage, and thinking "alright this is an AoE skill, got it" and never using it again. I get the vague feeling that Flare was supposed to be my Despair for that early point of the game, something I was meant to finish the fire phase with, but I never did, so once I got Foul and then Despair things were messy for a while.
We almost did it without him, but the tank died before me and my potion was on cooldown when Gaius reappeared after the clones died. I was fricking pissed, he only had like one GCD worth of HP left before I died.

There is no 'original' timeline. All possible worlds and timelines exist simultaneously in the Interdimensional Rift. The only time travel possible is closed loop travel like you see in Endwalker. Nu-G'raha's timeline exists in an entirely different universe that happens to be easily reachable via the rift.
When we visited elpis we didnt time travel. We just saw the memories of the (You) that once time traveled there. But you didnt do it. Thats why you cant change anything and its being told to you.

The best meld sets will crush anything. The mid-tier ones will be good enough to craft everything with food and pots. The budget sets are usually as good as the mid-tier but you might have a bad craft here and there due to condition RNG prior to byregot's blessing.
IMO you should meld all the armor to best tier for some wiggle room when the new crafting set recipes come out and meld the tools to budget or mid-tier.

Nobody gives a single shit about how good or bad you do in any content that people normally queue for. Normal raids, 24-man raids, Dungeons, Normal trials. 99% of the people that are ever in there with you don't even acknowledge that you exist.
Every mechanic is either 100% telegraphed or has an actual 10 second cast time. Make the boss cast bar twice as big and in the middle of your screen and learn to recognize spell names.
People die CONSTANTLY in normal raids. Healers especially. If you play a Red Mage or Summoner (or healer) everyone will fill your butthole with comms every single run unless it went off with no problems, in which case you have nothing to worry about anyway.
Save your weird ass nervousness for Extremes and beyond, anything that you fill through the PF.

I'm dumb, it was actually arcane crest they nerfed, they nerfed the party regen when the shield breaks by half, turning it from reasonably useful to basically useless, it was a dumb change
RPR was actually the highest damaging dps at the start of EW iirc but it was power crept when literally every other melee got buffs and RPR didn't, so very minor potency buffs would be nice and reverting the arcane crest nerf would be nice because then it won't be so useless anymore
RPR is flawed at its core because even though it's incredibly well designed and very smooth to play the gauge holds it back.
You ideally want to go into every 2 minute buff window with an enshroud and 50 soul gauge to keep up with the other jobs but if there's any downtime where you can't build gauge you're fricked and behind the other jobs.
downtime sucks, but it sucks for everyone. it honestly doesn't feel that bad on reaper since it's very easy to fix from what i've seen this tier. it gets weird after adds in p3s though, but who actually likes p3s?

Sure you could hold a minute shroud burst window in a previous phase but that puts you way behind the other DPS who did their minute burst window on CD
DRG shares that drawback, they need to be exact in their mirage dives and nastrond windows so that lance charge lines up with sight and litany, any significant downtime forces them to choose between withholding a window or misaligning the 120s buffs.

Is it even profitable to do ugly races or job restricted races in an MMO? Years ago I always dreamed of an Ivalice MMORPG but after I started actually playing an MMO I realized what a mess it would be. 90% of the players would be Vieras or Grias. Maybe I could see some playing Bangaa or Nu Mou and Seeq would have to have some broken exclusive job for people to play as them.

potentially, personally I think they should give Wildfire the ability to crit (or even auto crit) and it should be AoE like in PvP to make it useful against dungeon mobs
I'd also make the Automaton Queen more responsive and maybe give MCH a meditate ability so it can build battery during downtime so they don't lose so much dps in specific raids
There's absolutely no reason why wildfire doesn't do at least 40% damage in an aoe by this point, and the way it works in pvp is just proving that the concept already exists. Automaton queen also still feels very clunky in aoes, I was hopeful for an aoe automaton king to round out the old rook/bishop lineup.

I never thought I'd say it, but I miss the old SB heat gauge. Balancing the heat without going over took at least some brainpower, and using flamethrower to instantly overheat when you wanted to for wildfire was some neat tech, and gave it some non-dungeon use.
the problem with flamethrower was that it was a latency nightmare even if you had good ping, not to mention you had absolutely no way to manage the guage until the mid 60s, meaning that your burst was basically a crapshoot until then, to make it even more unintuitive, in early SB, overheating was a dps loss because the devs are morons
SB MCH had potential but goddamn was it a fricking mess and it was so rigid that pressing the wrong button could snowball you badly down the line
ShB MCH onwards is overally simplicstic and I wish it had a bit more depth, but at least it works without without having to rely on flamethrower not fricking up

No lie, I joined a EX farm PF and during someone asked the BLM why they werenn't putting thier DoT up and the BLM said they never realized Thunder was a DoT....
I levelled a BLM to level 90 and never figured out how to proc that thundercloud thing so I wouldn't have the DOT up for like 80% of the time
I didn't realize Cure III was an AOE heal for like 2 years.
It's funny how asking players to read their tooltips is considered rude but its completely necessary because there are so many players who barely realise how their job works even after playing it for hours on end

Not consistently, only when I "remembered".
I fixed my stuff since then, though, now I do everything in the proper order.
I think part of the problem is that I feel Black Mage is a job whose rotation changes violently from expansion to expansion and so I never settled into a rhythm where new parts kept getting added, I always felt like I was having to reinvent the wheel. All the other jobs I've leveled, I feel like I more or less have a knowledge of all to use all the parts of it well as I unlock them.
Maybe I really fricked up by looking at Flare in ARR, seeing it did AoE damage, and thinking "alright this is an AoE skill, got it" and never using it again. I get the vague feeling that Flare was supposed to be my Despair for that early point of the game, something I was meant to finish the fire phase with, but I never did, so once I got Foul and then Despair things were messy for a while.

We almost did it without him, but the tank died before me and my potion was on cooldown when Gaius reappeared after the clones died. I was fricking pissed, he only had like one GCD worth of HP left before I died.

Funnily enough, I've seen damage logs before where the Ice Mage was doing better damage than somebody ostensibly doing the proper rotations, because the latter just... waste so many fricking GCD cycles doing nothing.
Golbez is going to be Azem from the Void, remember the point of that character in FFIV was their relationship with the protagonist, doesn't make sense if he is just an evil enemy cameo like Exdeath

crystal tower simply isn't that scary anymore, it could use a remake like a lot of the other arr content but they'll never deprive the erpers of their easy alliance raid grind
They actually already talked about Duty Support for Crystal Tower, just that it'll have to be 7.0 or later before they can even get around to starting. So there's no chance they're not going to rework them eventually, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll get harder, per se.
Mog Tomestone, and the bonus exp is still big enough to make it worth doing if don't have fully maxed character
