Final Fantasy XIV isn't in any danger of dying. Even if they completely frick up the gameplay beyond all repair you'll still have women and "women" remaining subbed 24/7 and buying a new fantasia every week to keep a steady flow of revenue to allocate to the development of Forespoken 2: homies with Attitude.
Final Fantasy XI is still going despite it being a PS2 game with all the technical debt that entails and it being complete normalgay repellant. There is no need to save XIV.

If they're making a new MMO they're going to have to play it as safely as possible because of the sheer amount of resources that are spent in the creation of an MMO. Mass appeal is a must in order to break even and Final Fantasy XI does not have mass appeal.

I think SE needs to focus on making players feel important again. I was thinking just now why Endwalker feels so awful to play and it dawned on me that it’s because the game design is so bland I don’t feel like I or anyone matters anymore. It’s completely nihilistic and stale gameplay.
I am talking about normal content. As most of the game is normal content. For example our tank disconnected in Aerherfont, an expert dungeon and I tanked it as BLM while a very poorly geared SCH kept me alive. How poorly geared? Well he hasn’t played since he finished EW and only bought enough pieces in the market board to get his ilvl high enough. Did not meld them either.
So… people don’t needs tanks, they don’t need healers, and they sure don’t need DPS, then all we have is depression as a player. You don’t make a difference. Not really. And this is sad.
I know most of these elements were implemented because people felt too much pressure as a healer or tank, or didn’t want to fail or whatever. They tried to make it so people feel safe. But safety isn’t fun. By doing this the developers also took away the chance for players to shine and pull through. For people to notice and recognize who’s good at their job. None of this exists now. Everyone is indifferent to everyone.
In a quest to avoid conflict in their game at all costs they did not create happiness or success. They created silence and indifference. Before, in dungeons like the burn sure if a player wasn’t able to clear after several wipes people would get mad, or at orbonne monastery, but they also knew joy when things were completed. This is because people recognized that things took effort and well… they made a difference. People were important.

I'm amused at the amount of hate I've seen on the rest of the internet for pictomancer. Here, sure, but we never like anything. I'd have thought the fantasia cult would be all over a job that lets you splash color everywhere.
Because some of the people who would have liked Pictomancer can also admit that the job effects look like shit and the presentation from the Job Trailer is off putting.

Nah, RDM should be able to rez any time. Its whole theme is that it's half white mage, and in the single player games the most useful purpose of Dualcast is that you can Raise and then Cura immediately so the boss doesn't smack the guy you just raised and kill him again. The only reason SMN should have raise and that it should be tied to Phoenix is that a Phoenix summon that can't raise is cringe and soulless.

SMN was the worst case scenario I had in mind in terms of dumbing down. I'm not happy with the way they gutted the frick out of MNKs positionals either because that was MNKs main gimmick besides the speed. Makes it seem like they really wanted to boost MNK player numbers and failed. RPR didn't impress me but I guess I'm biased because I don't like the job fantasy. I don't really play NIN so I can't comment on it and I only liked Stormblood SAM.

the hype for 1.0 was intense, but most computers couldn't run it and I played in the beta was just obtuse and weird and NOTHING like WoW. ARR is them giving up on whatever they were doing and just copying WoW

It's because there are now fights built around slidecasting, like TOP. You can't do Panto on any healer but Sage without slidecasting.

there is no slidecast if your recast is longer than your cast, you have the exact difference between the two for movement. you might think that you are moving earlier than when your cast finishes on your screen, but what is actually happening is that the entire cast is timeshifted forward by a certain amount because the server had to buffer the cast before it even started. there is a small animation lock when the recast is the same or shorter than the cast time and moving in that timeframe is what can properly be called slidecasting

i'm not sure if you are even reading my post. your castbar is inaccurate on two fronts, not just one. in both cases, the server has resolved the cast before your castbar disappears, but in one case, you gain an additional buffer for movement that you shouldn't have. if your gcd is 2.4s and your spell casts in 1.44s, you will have 0.96s of movement per gcd. if your gcd is 2.4s and your spell casts in 2.4s, you will about 0.3s of movement per gcd
if square enix revamps their game engine to be more responsive, what will happen is that the person with 2.4s gcd and 1.44s spellcast will have the exact same amount of movement, except that the window of movement no longer starts slightly before the cast finishes and ends slightly before the next cast starts, while the person with 2.4s gcd and spellcast will be completely unable to move without interrupting their cast

Dude, I'm a caster main. I play the game every day. I know how slidecasting works. Short casts like healer attacks and Ruin III absolutely are slidecastable. I know because I do it. You can cut off half the cast bar on short casts, and you are required to do so if you're playing healer on TOP because there's no other way to get your GCDs out in Panto.

If I was a new player coming in in like 2028 and knew I had to play through 2.0-8.x to get to the newest expansion I'd be fairly intimidated by that shit. When it was only like 2.0-4.x it was a lot more reasonable but that ask is just gonna keep expanding as time goes forward.
I recall when they were talking about a new starting point they were also going to give it a lot of express warning that you aren't going to know what the frick is going on so they made the lore encyclopedia that the Scions get character descriptions in, and it's gonna be pretty intimidating in its own way since you'll start out with full-ish hotbars

God, what burns my ass isn't so much that their anti-aliasing sucks, but that it's a terrible implementation of FXAA that other games have done better. Somehow something that is supposed to soften edges only makes them more apparent, it's outright broken and they refuse to acknowledge it.
Just irks me that we have this new graphical update, and it improves things.

There are some very nice cutscenes. When I first watched this I thought they somehow prerendered my character into it.
Hopefully we'll return to that level of direction and rendering again one day.
1.0 had good shaders, occasionally good lighting to accompany them, and solid cutscene presentation sometimes, even discounting the motion captured ones. Most of the time it looked muddy, but it had moments that just straight up make 2.0 onwards look like an amateur project in its art direction. But those moments weren't exactly common unless you were taking a scenic route about Limsa.

All the last stage relics have been shit besides a handful of HW ones.
Most ARR end relics are good (there are some stinkers like Longinus, and some of them are saved by their glows like Excalibur)
Cronus Lux and Areadbhar Lux are the only HW relics that really appeal to me and sword and spear themselves are quite boring, the glows save them
SB freebies with the artifact armor are by and large very good, but go to shit as the relic improves
Shadowbringers relics are pretty good all around and even its stinkers are mediocre at worst, some glows *ruin* the weapons in this case with Recollection, Law's Order and Blade's
Endwalker relics are another very good round on both available steps, the base Manderville Weapon step in particular shines on all weapons but DRK's, but I think Majestic should get a matte version

Good stuff, I finished the zetas a few weeks ago. HW relics are more convenient cause you can stock up on the materials. While Zetas you have to actually do the things with poetics:

>75 poetics for each Alexandrite Map, can pick up two at a time (pop one, buy another), so 150 poetics spent per run. 15 maps per relic.

From my understanding, the whole character file has to be sent between DC login servers. Highly unlikely that they'll add cross-DC DF or PF anytime soon.
I'd be fine with them adding an option at aetheryte crystals to travel to another DC. It would still log you out, but it would do everything automatically and you could just alt+tab while it does all of it instead of having to click 20 different things.
I mean, it's pretty clear that's what the cloud server tech they're working on is aiming to fix. It might not be ready any time soon, but it's clear that they know it's an issue because it's even happening in the JP DCs.

Ultimate PFs started collecting on Aether because it's such niche content anyway, and everyone else followed. Now everyone just data center travels to Aether to do anything.

I have a specific question about Hydaelyn EX. Farm parties use just one tank and one healer. If the light party stacks always target both healers and you have only one, who does it target instead of the second healer? Does it just pick a random DPS? How does that not just kill everyone?
PF on primal is always dead compared to aether. Even after a new patch there will be maybe 10 parties doing hard content while there are 150+ on aether.

It all leads back to how stupid the 2.x MNK artifact armor looked, in particular how the head piece makes you look like Quailman's moronic brother. The job looked the most stupid of them all, so people didn't play it, so the devs didn't worry about continuing to give it stupid looking gear, etc.

Why play Monk who has two separate combos to rotate through and deciding finishers depending on an effect as well as juggling the chakra and perfect balance hoping for Tornado Kick periodically while having awkward procs, when you can consistently hammer out Samurai finishers and extra attacks or ungafrickingbunga with Reaper for more overall efficiency? Their attempts to streamline Monk just resulted in Monk losing depth in favor of length, length that ultimately doesn't have the payoff the other DPS get.

As a Monk main I literally cannot fathom how anyone finds it harder than the other melees. The chakra gauge is literally just "press when it comes up" as opposed to the others where you gotta constantly gauge whether you should spend immediately or wait until next buff window. The literal only time you have to think at all in your rotation is when you hit perfect balance in your 120s opener, you don't even have to think in your 60s one because you can do a full rotation and still have RoF up for your perfect balance.
I just fricking hate bladed fist weapons and like half(possibly more) of all monk weapons are just that.

Half the variety of potential glamours is gone though because of that. It's not like every caestus weapon is going to be good by default.

I think what killed my interest in this game is how passive aggressive the community is. It only got worse over time. It feels less like an MMO, and more like a Discord server. Kind of sucks. I remember in RuneScape back in 2008 - 2010, the internet had a different social space to operate with. Everyone was more friendly, albeit more cringe, but it was more authentic to me.
XIV is more fun when you have a preexisting group of friends to play with. The community is absolute fricking asscancer and the less you interact with them, the better.
It doesn't help that I tried every single circle in this game.

Yes, it was confirmed by Yoshida himself at the live letter before launch. Ishikawa has also talked about it in an interview. Anima was going to be the final boss of the Garlemald expansion and then it would lead into the Final Days as its own full expansion.

We know the Garlemald expansion got skipped because they didn't want to lose the momentum they gained from Shadowbringers.
In a way, they originally planned to do a full Garlean expansion before Endwalker but decided to skip over it and go right to EW. We probably lost some end of days content to make way for Zenos and Garlemald to be shoved in as a zone.
