That's not an external buff is literally the WoL's own emotion power.

Yotsuyu wasn't being redeemed, the writers weren't trying to do that. The redemption was Gosetsu's. He tried to kill himself to achieve an easy 'redemption' through an honorable warrior's death. But he was denied that and forced to relive his failures through Yotsuyu so he could find proper redemption. Yotsuyu knew she was irredeemable and needed to die which is why she committed suicide by becoming a primal.

Nothing changes. If people have to do a repetitive, but non-linear task everyday, then they'll just optimise the hell out of it. The way the game is currently designed does not favour non-linearity, even Criterions are linear.

The entire point of a MMO (even if today they are far more casual and less of a time sink) is to be a game you play every day, a game you can leave on while you do other things.

40k hours of active gameplay in the span of 8y4m would require 13h/d worth of commitment with zero breaks. I call bullshit on that, but 20k+ is definitely feasible.
Old school MMO players would leave the game on 24/7, or close to it. Yeah they weren't actively playing for 40,000 hours but there was no negative to having your game on and ready at all times.

One thing I got very bitter about is that Ala Mhigo wasn't an actual city zone. All we got was the "Ala Mhigan Quarter" and the city proper was a dungeon.
Such a waste. That same feeling of disappointment came with FF16 where major cities weren't zones, but just Stages. I like the game, but it kinda bums me out.
4.0 has some pretty rough pacing issues with ala mhigo and I really didn't care much for it, which was more apparent with how much more interesting the far east was. Also Lyse's leadership role felt pretty tacked on and if you're thinking about the actual politics, pretty irresponsible. As for post game patches, 4.1 and 4.2 are pretty slow, but the latter half gets better in my opinion. Omega and Ivalice are fun, although the infodump during the beginning of the ivalice quest is quite rough if you're not familiar with tactics.
