Grinding out the variant dungeon while waiting on a friend so we can continue to actually progress the dungeon. We've found half the paths so far. I'm making pretty good gil by selling potsherd stuff on the market.
I've yet to finish a relic weapon since they're a boring as frick grind and I have a full time job and adult shit to do.
I've started Eureka, but I haven't even finished the first island/instance.

I'm a bit bummed out by the criterion versions. Really wanted some harder content, but playing several bosses with at least one moron is a bit frustrating. Also the rewards seem a bit boring.
I haven't gotten to those yet, but at this point I'm fine with just being able to complete. I'm a super casual in this still, as I haven't done a single piece of synced content on extreme or above yet, and I was looking forward to the criterion dungeon being my first step into it, especially since I can bring my friend into the party and know that at least half the party isn't going to be too dumb.

all the nonstandard tanks in ff11 are just a result of using the subjob mechanic to combine tanky stuff to a class that has a few things to help reduce damage so they aren't helpless or taking advantage of how dodge rates were pretty broken if you stacked enough of it

Yeah, MNK is naturally tanky because of the massive HP pool, high evasion, and parrying. Then DNC gives it a provoke and TP-based healing.

I love FFXIV but this right here is my one REAL problem with the game. The netcode is really just inexcusably dogshit.
In WoW, or most MMOs, or even most video games in general, when you see an enemy telegraph that's your que to dodge or get out of it.
In FFXIV you have to pre-emptively move out of most aoes or else you're fricked. You can't pop an ability to protect yourself from something at the last second, you can't move out of an aoe at the last second. If you're not already out of it like 2+ seconds before it goes off, the game considers you in it and you're getting hit, it's really fricking moronic.

There used to be to a small extent when tankbusters weren't always telegraphed with cast bars but now that certainly not the case.
tank busters without cast bars was the exact opposite of reactive play because you just had to know ahead of time when alexander was going to nuke you because 9/10 tank skills do nothing after the damage already happened, at least with cast bars you can react to one or the other mechanics

Don’t get me wrong, the net code really could use some help, but in the of chance you didn’t know, aoe’s snapshot your stats/buffs when the big red circle disappears THEN does damage when the animation goes off. This means any immunities, shields, or otherwise that happen after the circle disappears won’t be factored in. Likewise, you can run into the big flame breath as it’s happening and not take any damage. Arguably this is why pure heals will always be superior to shield heals for reactions, because you tell “oh frick I’m going to get hit” and preemptively heal yourself to full. Even with perfect net code this would still be the case.

That is honestly the worst step now, second the the 10 dungeons, the rest can be done just with Poetics while you do roulettes, Eureka and Hunts. Final 2 steps take and hour at most, too.
It's not so bad coupled with the first step of the ShB relic, especially in the higher level HW zones where the difference in power between level 61 and level 59 is staggering.
Make sure to do your Alexander raids so that you can do EZ mode light farm in Party Finder.

I played Everquest and FFXI. I've completed a Tizona in FFXI. I know very well. FFXI mythics being a ludicrous grind doesn't mean XIV doesn't have grinds. There's plenty for people to work towards if they want something to spend their time on.

No, MNK is good, but at this point SE needs to accept they can't please everyone with it. If they redo it AGAIN in 7.0, I'll quit the game on the spot. My favorite iteration was TK at the end of SB but EW MNK is as good as it will get without another unintentional rotation slipping through.

I cant speak for dps but honestly playing tank for the 3 older ultimates was the best choice. The mechanics you handle are easy to deal with and if something goes wrong its easier to spot (if it isnt raid wide)

Yea. But its only dungeon gear. Doing dailies will provide you with another set. Plus there isn't anymore fending/maiming/striking etc etc. Its all heavy, medium, and light. The materia will provide the stats needed to fit your job.

The thirteenth is closest in aspect to Zodiark. It's entirely possible that when we dissipated him on the source, his aether migrated to the Void and coalesced around the shard of him there. Hell, that could be the entire impetus behind shit suddenly happening in the 13th despite it being quiet for thousands of years.

Zodiark was not yet strong enough to be relevant if he was freed, and through his sundered power he was still protecting all the stars from despair energy, so in that regard the bunnies and Ascians were on the same side. There was literally no reason to interfere, and if anything the Loporrits were also a contingency plan for the Ascians. Without sundered living beings around, the Ascians can't do much, so if the sundered ever need to flee for whatever reason to survive the Loporrits can always be there. The whole point of Zodiark was to create such a powerful and unified concentration of aether as to prevent the total imbalanced chaos happening all around them. Once they did this by sacrificing everyone, the world was still irreparably poisoned(by Meteion's despair shenanigans, though no one understood that) despite Zodiark's power. Thus they had to sacrifice yet more lives to restore their planet. Then they freaked out and realized how their race is almost dead through sacrifice and hatched a plan to sacrifice aspects of their planet to bring the dead back to life, which even from step one the whole thing was a plan of desperation. The Hydaelynists realized the entire process was flawed, and their world and people were doomed unless they could find a real solution as Zodiark could only ever stall the emotion energy shenanigans, and would likely call for further sacrifice to keep it at bay in the future no matter how distant that may be, which again they did not know about the emotion stuff.
As for the sundering, I think that was also a plan of desperation by Venat that not even Hydaelynists knew was going to happen, as the Zodiarkers likewise did not realize simply summoning him would require further and further sacrifice to fix things.
I think Venat's logic was if not for Hydaelyn, their people would never have the power to demake Zodiark ever again, and would forever be slaves to his constant need for aether to keep them safe.

In a sense they were very sheltered, and when shit hit the fan they were convinced only a truly almighty being would have enough power to stop it. As we see in all the flashbacks these supposedly perfect beings were shitting themselves and utterly confused and scared during the final days, in contrast to their attitudes when we see them in the unsundered world.

Just finished all 12 routes. One of them was kinda unintuitive and took me a while to figure out but the rest felt like natural progression and the end was fricking great.

The writers are fairly restrained with it, he’s been mentioned or shown only a few times since (she was a as far bigger part than him in that dungeon for example. He just gets a mention, she outright saves you from Amon).

I believe it's about ~20 minutes to clear solo, and the two times I did it matched each took me ~30. Just solo as a tank if your DPS isn't geared. You're definitely not gonna get any ASS without a static though

Yes there's now a Variant/Criterion Dungeon you can grind out. Has twelve endings and some facets of it change depending on which paths you take

It means the dungeon can end twelve different ways depending on what you do in it.
In the short term, different endings mean different mechanics get used by one of three different end bosses. In the long term, you can piece together a pretty cool story with half of the endings but you will have to read your ending entries and pay attention to what is going on.
