More items have made it to the online store than content in game. It's pretty amazing that DC universe online has more varied things for you to do at level cap than this game.
It's because SE knows players do nothing but treat the game as second life. The entire community shared a sigh of relief when the Shadowkeeper mount was revealed to be a mogstation purchase instead of a reward for playing the game. No one who still subs to XIV wants to play the game, raiders do everything in their power to avoid decision-making in fights, PvPers only queue ranked with others in their discord, RPers ignore those who don't have Mare installed, modern XIV is quite sad.

Endwalker is nothing more than a stopgap expansion. After the mediocre ending 6.0 provided and with what I've played on the last free login campaign cements the initial thought. The Asura fight is a good indication of what's to come. Its a mythical Indian/Hindu deity, rarely does the msq create trials for previously explored zones in older expansions (looking at the WEAPON series from ShB). 7.0 will unfuse the slime of a monster that is 6.0 Endwalker and give us the proper Garlemald expansion.

You actually have it the other way around even though your conclusion is correct. XVI has been successful enough that CBU3 is almost assuredly going to be put on XVII right away because there is no other team large enough and available at SE to work on it now. CBU1 is on FF7 for another two games as well as KH4, CBU2 is on DQ12, Luminous is dead. 7.0 is going to be another expansion where a good chunk of the team is just working on another single-player game.
Stop using excuses for why the expansions are so fricking sparse. They're never going to increase production because the playerbase has been conditioned to praise and defend the content formula no matter how much is cut. From a business perspective it makes no sense to dedicate more resources to it if the current method of slow removal is still showing growth in the game.
It's not an excuse, it's an explanation. I'm agreeing with you that the decline should be expected to continue because SE is happy to just use it as a microtransaction money pump machine to subsidize all their other bombs.

I think everyone should just accept ShB was the peak at this point, there's no real reason to expect 7.0 to radically change the course that EW has been taking.
Peak MSQ, but outside of that it was dumbed down SB with less meaningful content which was dumbed down HW with better content. People also forget that SHB took throw-away characters and gave them purpose, it wasn't a long and continuous buildup since 2.0, the game could easily have a story that's just as good, but right now I'd much rather have a mediocre story if the rest of the game is entertaining.

Yes, OSRS is unironically fantastic and they've been pretty good about adding new content lately.
However you have to accept that it's a browser game that first launched in 2001 and it has more in common with idle games than it does contemporary MMOs. A lot of the game is something you do while doing something else, and while it does have high APM activities they're all dozens if not hundreds of hours in.
I wouldn't suggest the modern version. It has things to like about it but it's trying to be one of the games you listed but is just worse.

Retail if you want to solo through the story, private if you have friends and a lot of time and want to enjoy some of the struggles.
How many friend do I need to do everything in xi?
On a private server that is trying to emulate the old level 75 cap ways you'd probably want at least 2 people that you could rely on to play the game with you. You could probably get away with just 1 bro if they have played before and can take the lead. You'll still have to play with others and form 6+ man parties for content but having 2 people with you would make filling out those parties a lot easier.
Retail on the other hand is played with solo trusts like in XIV except you can do everything with them, overworld, instanced, story, all of it, and they are really fricking strong. You can do everything up to and including the first 1-2 tiers of endgame content by yourself with trusts.

You can make a PC game with expansions without charging a sub fee. Also the full breadth of ARR to EW is about the same as FF6, just stretched the frick out to keep people subbed.
You could probably trim a lot of the fat and turn some of the earlier arr 'low tier adventurer' stuff into actual gameplay content, aside from that it would be pretty difficult to convert 10 years worth of story.

Even if it does end up being Y'shtola's operation that causes the calamity itself, it's still not her fault. Because we're not doing this for fun. The only thing we did "for fun" was open that first portal and go searching for Azdaja. Everything else has been a reaction to Golbez constantly trying to cause that calamity. I mean, a calamity doesn't imply either of these happening (except maybe Zero banishing, but we don't have any precedent for how a rejoining affects someone who's outside the actual shard and she's got a special situation anyway).

The impression I got was that we'd be able to get an idea of where the story was headed earlier than normal(.4 patch) while the patch storyline progressed to it's conclusion. What we got is actually less than a normal .4 patch and it's going to end up with us seeing the trailer for the next expansion before they've even begun to tease it. They could stun us all and the void actually IS the next expansion but from everything they've shown/told us about it thus far I'm still under the assumption that the void can't be used as an expansion setting and it is unfixable.
It's just so strange to me that with 5 full patches available to them that they are going to do the entirety of the patch buildup in only .5.

I play different jobs every tier, but personally I could play MNK 24/7 and not get bored and I've always been like this since I started in 3.5, maybe due to how MNK tends to change every few patches or expansion, but I've loved it since the start and still love it

I like me hats but am worried once femhroths coming out that I'll lose them.
Hroths can wear a surprising number of tank helms and I believe the Law's Order stuff is accessible to them as well. Anything else and they're as if not more limited than Viera.
Some hats/caps look ok but most of the females like the shoulders to make full helmets look good.

I'd honestly sub to WoW at this point since I've done all the current XIV content and I'm in a lull, but I have a really hard time justifying it when the price of a month is 25% higher than XIV and I enjoy WoW less.

XIV will never need a Classic because you can STILL go do TEA, you can still do UwU, you can still do DSR, you can still do Eureka and Bozja and Heaven on High, you can still get the Morbol Mount.
