I love the gunblade's Monado reference but I don't think any of them actually "work," especially when the previous two tiers were very clearly themed after the artifact armor. Very weird left-hand turn from the previous relics and not a welcome one.
Forgot my pic, dyed the weapon Ruby Red in Ktisis. I don't remember which Monado form it looks like but I know it wasn't the base one.
It's like they didn't want to make a unique final set ones, and instead pulled what was supposed to be for PvP as new weapons to match the Universal gear added last patch.
I'm iffy about the whole thing, but at least I can work catching up on all relics and don't have to care much about this expansion with how long it'll take.

99% of monk weapons are shit. In fact, I'd argue that there's maybe only like 4-5 good monk weapons in the entire game, with 3 of them added all the way back in fricking 3.2. Any type of weapon you'd slash with like claws looks like shit due to the animations, whereas anything you'd hold with a handle or grip would make no sense in practicality. Gloves are okay, but boring and troublesome for reasons you described. If monk weapons were strictly gauntlets, or all the glove-type ones at least made into them, there would be a lot more options. Otherwise, I have had zero incentive to ever change from my sephirot fists since I first got them.

I just finished 6.5 and holy frick was this entire patch series pointless. I thought maybe it would have some purpose, but not really. Zero was the shittiest character this game has had from start to finish.

And scenes where Zero learned in the most ham fisted manner what friends were! And how every character liked Zero from just meeting her! Seriously, every scene with her was the most grating shit, she actually made other characters worse just by being around them. It's clear they wanted to cram an expansion's worth of character development into a few patches, but they completely dropped the ball.
Then why not make the new entry point have us spend time with already important characters, vs one that might as well and hopefully not exist after these patches? We could of had Zeromus without her.
That pissed me off also, quests of build up for Unukalhai and the other people from the 13th preparing to begin the momentous task of fixing it, just for a literally who to steal their thunder. She somehow managed to make a side story worse in addition to the main story. It feels like the writer never even heard of the 13th story before writing for these patches.
But you got so many food scenes!
At least 6.55 brought back the actual feeling of setup to the next adventure like previous .4/.5 patches had, even though it was so damn short.
Basically, 6.1-6.5 was done the way it was so it's a possible new entry point for new players in the future.
They get a quick dopamine of "I beat a final boss!" without the buildup of an entire expansion, and it's hwy the codex was added, and why it "reintroduces" characters to you after the "disbanding".

Cylva? Really? I didn't see that at all, I think the only connection there is Cylva is some kind of Dark Knight as the Shadowkeeper. I know they were trying to do something with her seeking redemption in some kind but I don't think Cylva was really the one for that. Especially with Unukalhai's face and hair pointing him to looking like Cecil and that he was already ordained as a Warrior of Light but was too young to fight.
Cylva is also a Paladin, so she's a DRK/PLD combo. And her name is also kinda similar to Cecil. She also said neither Cylva nor Cyella are her real name, so maybe it's Cecilia. She was a memoriate too. And why did the Ascians go out of their way to save her?
She's just a swordsman and not specifically a Paladin as far as I was aware, it was Branden that moved on to becoming a Paladin and put on ARR's armor.

Branden is a PLD too technically a Magic Knight, but that's just a Voeburt PLD but Cylva uses a bunch of PLD skills including Passage of Arms during the roleplay instances. It doesn't matter now because what's done is done, but I think the whole story was definitely meant for Cylva. Oh well.

Anon, she's from the 13th and was tricked by the Ascians to go to the first and become the shadowkeeper and cause the flood of light. She went through a massive ordeal that somewhat mirrors what happened to Golbez, it really makes a thousand percent more sense to have her there instead of Zero.

As a parallel to Cecil I can't agree, Cecil's character arc was miring in self-doubt and guilt over Baron's treachery and crystal thefts. Even with Zero having the depth of a puddle I feel she's much more reflective of Cecil's character than Cylva is. I think Cylva was probably supposed to be a martial mentor to Unukalhai and the latter would finally take up wings as a Warrior of Light (forma de la Paladin) when he was actually ready and old enough for it, but I don't think she herself was supposed to be The One. This riding under the assumption they ever actually had any intention of progressing the void lads' story given how long Unukalhai was in Sidequest Hell, and only got out of it because stuff going on was actually relevant to him.
It's pretty obvious Cylva was meant to be there, you should do the role questlines from ShB and see just how far they went towards down that road.
We're talking about things that concern the role quests, of course I did those. I don't agree that Cylva was supposed to be the Cecil analogue, it leaves Unukalhai in a really weird spot.

If you want to make it about one person try thinking about how silly that final conversation between Golbez and Zero was and how much more sense it would have made with Cylva, someone who actually went through real trials and troubles, was standing there instead.

Durante is FF4's Golbez with some Zemus DNA as far as actual theme, story purpose and character actions, I don't personally think he would have been all too swayed by somebody that beat-for-beat did what he did but on a second shard, and didn't try too hard to find a way back to the Void or any other shard until she got two midgets to put their heads together. Realistically though, in terms of power, what is there to defeat in the 13th? We've beaten the most powerful voidsent on that world. Unless they pull something out of their ass, which to be fair is how the writing is designed for this game, that's all there is to it. I can only imagine that the 13th will become some sort of side activity like role quests for a future expansion but I can't imagine it having a dedicated expansion.

What self doubt or guilt did Zero have? Cylva got used by Ascians and caused a Flood of Light, compared to Golbez being used to cause a Flood of Darkness. Also Cylva's whole role as Shadowkeeper was actually to collect crystals by baiting the party into doing good deeds.

The fact that we had a set of quests called the fricking VOID QUESTS involving a team of characters from THE VOID trying to save THE VOID and not a single one of those already established characters with good chemistry got time in the spotlight for a second in the void MSQ shows how bad the writing team at SE has gotten in the past five years. The fujo was the only thing carrying them and she only made it for one and a half expansions.
I think that 6.1-6.5 is a setup for a future expansion dealing with the 13th, just like how the Warriors of Darkness patchs were a setup for Shadowbringers. If the game is really going for another 10 years I expect a entire expansion dedicated to restoring the 13th and the 1th.
The First is rebuilding itself already. We saw to that both during the Shadowbringers MSQ and the Eden story.

Now that I've seen the character's introduction in game for myself, I can deliver the definitive opinion on the VA's performance.
The first lines of dialog are fricking terrible. Horribly paced and low energy considering how the character is emoting. From there it just keeps fluctuating between bad and alright. And then the fricking accent. My goodness. If there was anything to make it glaringly obvious the VA is an amateur, it's the accent. Not only does it sound forced, it's changes from line to line. It's so jarring having wuk talking with other characters whose VAs have actual acting ability. I'm disappointed but above all, I'm confused. Confused at how a VA this lacking landed a role this important alongside a cast far above them.

Honestly, it does bother me personally a little bit that people mostly refer to these characters by titles rather than names, but I do understand why that is (we didn't always know their names, and the titles don't really mean anything so they're effectively names anyway. And also in Hephaistos/Lahabrea's case there's a separate clone character that can be conveniently clearly referred to this way).
It's a case of familiarity I guess. But from a meta perspective it's also that Japanese tries to avoid using names if the speakers aren't intimate so there could be some cultural aspect affecting the writing.

The problem is that the voice work is actually really weak, especially when contrasted to an excellent VA like G'raha. If she ever appears in a scene with Y'shtola the gap in quality will be even bigger. However, that discussion can never happen due to both sides pointing at the VAs gender than actually their merit.

You might then say, well eng wuk is just one of the outliers. To that I say, the drip in quality is tremendous. He's not just weaker compared to the heavyweights like g'raha and y'shtola, he's just fricking bad.
"ENG Wuk is an outlier" is the total and emphatic opposite of what I said, we have absolutely zero common ground here. I don't find the character's VA to be a weak link in the slightest, hell, I find Krile's voice more grating in this patch than I do Wuk Lamat's.

It was peak amateur hour throughout the character's introduction.
Personally I fricking hate dubs and I think that people should always opt for the original Japanese barring dyslexia or eyesight issues. ARR's dub is no exception.
That said, the dub for FFXIV after ARR is actually pretty darn decent barring some really bad miscasts that are grating on the ear ( Alisaie and Thancred are the ones that immediately come to mind). And it's so decent because we have theatrically trained Bri'ish actors instead of failed American radio hosts. So Wuk being voiced by an American diversity hire is a disheartening potential trend.
The original language should always be the default language. Unless it's something like chinese or brazillian portugese. Two of the ugliest languages in existence.

There's probably some sort of forced standardization at play here that I'd understand fully if I understood internal Japanese politics.

Just went through Wuk's intro scene myself. Both him and Erenville sounded absolutely atrocious. Flat as boards, and Wuk's accent was absolutely all over the shop. Genuinely really bad.
That's one thing that annoyed me: Erenville's VA isn't doing the voice correctly. A lot of rolled Rs and other inflections he had during 6.0 are gone.
It was really jarring. Did he not get paid enough? Is he sick of the role already? It was so fricking bad, dude. Not quite amateur "bring in your family to voice the cast" bad but really bad.
I played most of the game in JP but switched back to ENG for Shadowbringers. The quality of ShB's dub really spoiled me, because even in 6.0 things felt off.
The Indians generally sucked, the Scandinavian bunnies and cats also generally sucked (lizardman dragon especially), the cat is fine and you wouldn't whine about the voice unless you knew.
And then we have that can't even recognize he's done the same accent the entire time because anons have no idea about accents.
Erenville is now miscast in the English dub because they didn't know he'd become a main characetr in Dawntrail.
The VA isn't that bad, but he's a bad fit for the personality they've begun to imbue into the character in the writing. Looking at the JP performance it's two different characters.

Yes he's very flat, which was fine for a one-off. They hired a bunch of -ssons and -dottirs for their accent, but who aren't necessarily great actors.
Erenville is one of the weaker VAs but at least at his worst he just sounds flat and goofy. I can tolorate that. Eng wuk just might make me switch to jp after 6 or so years playing with the eng dub. But to be completely fair, that's also partly due to how fricking good jp wuk is.

Wow, that’s just all I have to say right now but Endwalker actually just broke me.
I love Final Fantasy, I always have since as a kid, it’s been a very big part for me. Especially XIV because when I first started playing it was during the pandemic and a lot of things were happening to me. I had just started college, I was also starting to be in a very toxic relationship, losing friends, failing classes but out of all the things that stayed consistent was playing XIV.
I remember going through ARR/ARA, when I was quarantined in my dorms basement for 11 days, I remember the emotional heartbreak I felt during Heavensward, I remember the feeling of freedom of going through Stormblood and not having a toxic partner, I remember going through my senior year of college as a Warrior of Darkness
And now I’m graduated, got my degree, got an entry level job in my field and finally finished Endwalker just an hour ago (6.0 that is, none of the patch MSQs)
Idk what it was exactly, maybe it was just the fact that I came so far from when I started this journey and just looking at the credits, thinking of everything I’ve been through. That in itself was already making me emotional
And then I saw it
“Warrior of Light: John Artemus”
I literally BAWLED my eyes out, literally typing this up is getting me emotional again lmao
But thank you to all have shown me the upmost kindness in this game, I cherish every single one of you Warriors of Light
