Not surprising. The man that brought SE as a whole back from the brink of bankruptcy is in charge of the game. After a string of bad mainline games, I'm sure people are hoping XVI will be the return to glory.
It looks so meh though, not any better or worse than all the AA RPG games SE is releasing now and charging full price for.
It's the first jrpg I'm actually excited to play in a few years. The genre is so boring now. Looking forward to the Kaiju Summon battles.
I hope its good for what is worth, I just dont feel the ooomph that FF usually has, remember how crazy 15 was? it was an event and shit was all over the internet, you couldnt scape it, but maybe they realize that was a mistake.

The standard for FF for years now has been SE up their own ass. That's how you got XIII, that's how you got XV. Yoshi is doing for mainline FF what he did for the mmo; telling the people in charge the games are bad and what has to be done to make them good again.

final fantasy has been pretty good recently. jack's game was great and the last couple of xiv expansions were surprisingly good if you play through for the story for a month and then drop it. even ff7r had some good combat going for it.
