You know it's one thing for rival franchises to argue. Sonic vs Mario, Streets of Rage vs Final Fight that sort of thing. But why do fans of same series feel they need a tribal mindset.

Square takes risks with Final Fantasy. Sometimes they pan out sometimes they don't. Sometimes they pan out for some people but not others. It's not like Mario v Sonic where Sonic fans are too busy jerking off and Mario fans are too normie to give a shit. Every Final Fantasy appreciator has their own list for best executed FF game and some entries like 8 are intensely polarizing, with people either loving or hating it.

I respect Square for trying, even if I feel like the series has been slowly becoming a joke. Its easy to compare FF to Pokemon, which has given us the same exact title over and over, with little to show for it other than new characters and new pokemon. The base game is nearly identical.

I like 16, the gameplay got a little repetitive, with leveling up after a certain point just being me unlocking abilities I didn't have equipped for a trophy. I bought the season pass on release and greatly regretted the price I paid for the content I had access to, hopefully the DLC is long enough that it makes up the rest of the cost.
I just finished 16 and I think it kind of sucks
final fantasy VII is overrated as frick and the remake games are a shameless cash grab
IV, VI, X and XVI are all better.
Cloud is the worst FF protagonist not called Tidus or Vaan. It's no wonder that everyone who plays Crisis Core likes Zack more.
VII is popular because of Yuffie, Tifa and Aerith and not because of the actual game.

Couldnt afford the ps1 games but ffx is the best final fantasy. The series had been going downhill since it came out. Ff 13-2 is also worth playing.
