And then the game comes out, is ultimately far more Good VS Evil than most FF's. All the politics hyped up in the trailers amounts to very little, meanwhile the worst but most constant part of the game (Ultima) wasn't there so people got mislead. The dominants are meme tier characters given the amount of screentime they get (outside of the allied ones, and even then Jill sucks). The story falls apart the more you think about it, and goes more stupid than most nomura games. And the gameplay isn't even that good for a 40+ hour title, and is balanced like shit. The exploration sucks, and there is no cool secrets in the game. The sidequests are mostly fetch quests.

It's a good game that I thoroughly enjoyed, just like XV was. And just like with XV I don't ever want another Final Fantasy in this style again. It was fun but I had my fill.
Don't get me wrong I don't like FF16 (and have beaten it), but the only reason it's a flop in terms of sales is because it's a PS5 exclusive. That killed it. Not enough people who would buy it have one, and few people are stupid enough to buy a PS5 just for FF16.
By the time it gets to PC, you lose all momentum from launch hype and you also have the risk of losing those "guaranteed" customers as perhaps they get captured by a different parasocial game.
All in all, it shows how little value there is in that audience. They only want 1 product.

To the degree that a lot of world-statistics, not just video games, tend to follow Japanese trends. All the politics hyped up in the trailers amounts to very little, meanwhile the worst but most constant part of the game (Ultima) wasn't there so people got mislead. The dominants are meme tier characters given the amount of screentime they get (outside of the allied ones, and even then Jill sucks). The story falls apart the more you think about it, and goes more stupid than most nomura games. And the gameplay isn't even that good for a 40+ hour title, and is balanced like shit. The exploration sucks, and there is no cool secrets in the game. The sidequests are mostly fetch quests.
