My 2 cents is that starfield will most likely flop financially because it is on gamepass and not on PS5, the most popular platform.
As for the gameplay, well at the core gameplay loop it looks like an FPS game, which bethesda have a pretty shit record of making (hopefully after acquiring ID they will be better at it now FO76 was not too bad in that dept)

Compared to what, exactly? Bethesda's cities are small because NPCs are permanent entities. Most other open world games spawn and despawn randomly generated NPCs that you can't interact with. See Cyberpunk, Witcher or GTA.

90% of initial Bethesda modern sales happen on consoles. Yes, most players are playing their games on consoles. PC only catches up when it comes to long tail sales with discounts accounted for. I always mistakenly assumed mods were a big deal when it came to Bethesda games that would nudge people towards getting them on PC.

Yes, I want the game to suck. Not because I hate Bethesda, but because I want them to start working on TES6 ASAP. Yes, I'm a Bethesdrone, so even if Starfield sucks, I do believe TES6 could be good, Sci-fi, and especially the fricking lame ass "nasapunk" they're going for with this game is the least interesting setting I've ever seen in a CRPG.

My experience is the opposite, anything besides overdosing on hype is met with hostility. I can just see ES6 coming out lacking any features like spell crafting or levitation, with magic once again being shafted with useless garbage spells, and those same people will be here, defending Bethesda and attacking you like rabid dogs, "how dare you demand anything from Bethesda, you are nothing!".

If anything Starfield showed me I need to stay away from any marketing material until after ES6 has released for a month or so. They make a single game thats whole gimmick is about filling out its roster, cut its roster in half and then sell it as two individual games. After a year they release the actual real version of the game with a full roster and more content making most people buy the same game twice. I don't want it to suck. But their games got progressively dumbed down and have been consistently bad since Skyrim. The last half decent game Bethesda developed was Oblivion and that game still had major issues.
Skyrim is a complete joke of an RPG and would have unironically been better as a straight up action game without any RPG progression whatsoever.
Fallout 3 absolutely sucks mechanically, and it really raped Fallout to boot.
And Fallout 4 is barely even an improvement, which says a lot.
And almost no one wants to even acknowledge Fallout 76.
And here comes Starfield. And it looks like Fallout in space, while also touting some of Daggerfall's least impressive and dumbest elements.
