The elevator cutscene's tone felt out of place.
All of the boss fights were cheap and flimsy. The game is good at creating a feeling of uncomfortableness, but for the bosses, it felt very off.

If you don't play it yourself and instead choose to base your opinion about it on random video essays you found on YouTube that your brain wasn't capable of processing due to your short attention-span, then you cannot formulate an opinion on it.
Play it homosexual
How is that a flaw in anything, let alone Silent Hill 2? A game which you can totally "get" without having cared for a sick person. Basic level empathy would let you understand James and his problems.
there's hundreds of dozens of socially moronic people who have no idea why the voice acting is the way it is
and just assume it's bad
anything beyond mere moron friendly marvel adventures filters the modern mentally stunted audience
The appraisals "bad" and "it's how it is supposed to be" don't negate each other. They are both accurate assessments of the voice acting. I would also like to argue that the voice acting would not prevent a person from understanding the story or James as a character. Hundreds of millions of people watch movies with subtitles all the time.
>"both accurate assessments of the voice acting"
you could say that but I just don't think people really are smart enough for even a stupid game as silent hill 2 anymore
if they don't dumb down the reboot it will sell like trash and get bombed for being faithful for being trash only horror fans can like and gaming journo gays can only huff their farts over
The flaw is the Silent Hill series as a whole introduced the seed needed to grow deepest lore schizophrenia Theory videos. It was a moment of joy and it brought years of suffering, and tainted the market as a whole. Game design changed for the worse, over simplification with " deep lore " trying to excuse poor gameplay.
>bro what the frick
it's all childish moronation of trying to find reasoning for something when you are reading slender man
It doesn't bother me. The big worry for the remake is the gameplay, for me. After watching that trailer and seeing it was nearly the exact same as the OG 2001 trailer for SH2 EXCEPT there was no gameplay in the new one, I figured something was up.
That said, i'm still hopeful. I doubt it will sell well either way. It's just not a franchise for dumbing down.
someone on team silent deeply understood it and what it does to a person but it's difficult to transmit that to the average player, most of them only "get" it on a surface level
I understand that no one will ever understand your pain anon, surface level understanding is all anyone is ever working with. These words on your screen are nothing compared to my thoughts and feelings. Game is good, people being dumb is guaranteed.

I have. The first hour or so was probably the most scared/unnerved I've been watching a movie.
Still not one of Lynch's best but only because his filmography's too strong.
I feel like I got filtered because I wasn't 100% sure why the dude killed his wife. I never could figure out if she really was an ex porn star fricking around behind his back or if he was just really insecure and only imagined she was being unfaithful. Idk, maybe that was the point.
James's voice actors rants about how Mary wasn't completely innocent and both of them were in the wrong were kind of unhinged. The game doesn't imply Mary did anything wrong in real life except get sick and die.
Way better, at least it knows its art house and stick to it.
SH2 doesnt know what it wants to be.
It wants to be art house? then its shallow and doesnt dig deep enough, AW2 from this year destroys it in that regard.
It wants to be a game? not enough gameplay, level design is shit, interactivity sucks
It want to be cheap Resident Evil knockoff? then it failed the combat and monster design is so bad.
It wants to be horror? it fricking failed again, the scare factor is shit because its easy af and monsters pose no threat thanks to their braindead a.i system
It wants to be survival horror? again failed, the game showers you with resources and there is no management for it, rendering decision making pointless.
It wants to be cinematic? the visuals aged like milk, it looks like diarrhea now.
This has to be the most overrated game ever created, par none.
The circlejerk around it is frankly disgusting, i think its because 16 year old posers think they are smart for liking it or something, and its a game you have to buy old console or emulate to play so the rest of the zoomers will not find out how shit it is, youtubers tell them to like it and like good npcs they do.
The hitboxes on interactable items is really small or just off. I got stuck in that elevator with bugs for like 10 minutes because James wouldn't look at the buttons.
Enemies and bosses are much worse than 1 and 3, you can basically just stand there and whack everything to death with minimal effort while in 1 and 3 the monsters will frick you up.
PS2s can be hacked incredibly easily and games can be run from hard drives or through the internet, both with faster loading speeds. There is absolutely no need to have a physical copy outside of collector autism.
I can't easily play it on PC in 2023. I have to download a bunch of fan mods to make the game work properly on Windows, and it's completely possible that I'll lose access to playing it on Linux, without even more workarounds.
>I have to download a bunch of fan mods to make the game work properly on Windows
You mean the single easily accessible mod pack exe that installs and updates everything for you? Yeah that shit is a lot of work, I can see why you'd rather be a lazy homosexual.
>You mean the single easily accessible mod pack exe that installs and updates everything for you?
You mean the mod pack that tells you that you have to download HQ FMVs, Audio Enhancement, and Texture enhancement mods as separated downloads, in the fricking guide posted in this thread(

).
You're fricking moronic, and don't even know what you're talking about, while only addressing one aspect of my post.
I installed some nightly build of PCSX2 and found a PS2 bios on the interwebs and had SH2 running well, just like that. Maybe try that route.
>Maybe try that route.
I'm still on Windows, for the time being, but I'm slowly making the switch to Linux. SH2 still works for now, but I'm not sure about how installation is going to work after I switch over.

Its ok, but nothing to write home about. I don't know why this game is overrated to the point of it supposedly being the best game ever made or something. Its not even scary, the third one was much creepier.
the combat. im not saying it should be an action game, but the original resident evil feels much better to play.
the shotgun has such long recovery that the pistol ends up being by far the best weapon in the game.
It doesn't follow Alessa, but the events of prior games are hinted at. James' father is a side character and Dahlia is mentioned several times.

fair enough. what about homecoming and downpour? are there any mentions of alessa in those games?

Homecoming seems to make a small reference to Cybil but it's too vague to confirm anything. Even then, SH ended at SH4 either way and everything after may as well be disregarded.
It inspired all the psychological horror games about the protagonist's fricked up mental issues and shit
It also didn't have all the cool wacky cult stuff
Why not? Doesn't Silent Hill 4 and Homecoming take place outside Silent Hill anyways? It's not like it's uncharted territory for Silent Hill's curse to infect areas outside of it.
It wouldn't be Silent Hill, but sure, a game in that style would be interesting. A bit off topic but I'd really fricking love a True Detective S1 game In the style of killer7.
Both. This game has drastically influenced my paranoia towards figures of authority and the education system as well as colored my perception of assassins. I started really disliking the John Wick sequels because so many of the assassins are just fricking ninjas but with guns instead of shuriken, and not depraved psychos who have no code of honor nor concept thereof.
Again, this is quite a bit off topic... Southern Gothic mysteries are a special kind of scary to me. There's no one for miles, and there's dense fricking foliage and swamps all around. Plenty of mud to get buried under, plenty of dirty shacks to get tortured in for weeks until you are finally given the sweet release of death, though your body will never be found. It's almost like Silent Hill in a way, a place that where people who slip between the cracks end up, but there's even deeper fissures that will steal you into a fate that the wider world either doesn't acknowledge or is completely clueless to.
djeeeeimss... u maid me kheppi... djeeeims... wading 4 u.. in are speshul pleighs.. u told me iud teik me 2 dis taun.. but u neva diid.... djeeeims.....
too much backtracking and being lost ,so you just feel bored rather than spooked, opening the same doors over and over to finally make progress
bosses are a joke
atmosphere was weaker than 1
Playing it.
Playing it, regardless of difficulty.
i say this as someone who really does love this game, but it's rather easy/movie-like/not like a 'game' compared to Silent Hill 1
I agree. I also think the town itself is underdeveloped in 2. 1 had quite a bit of town to explore if you wanted.
3 had basically none. Sucks.
Eileen shaving
Shit pacing.
Weak enemies.
Poor replay value.
Way too easy and calm.
An all around downgrade from SH1.

Nice “post”.

you didn't play it
Perfectly spoken by someone who didn't play it
I don't need to play a game to have an opinion on it.

I set everything up a couple of weeks ago but I haven't started it yet.
It's obsolete
Based
Boring.
I'm generally not turned off by shilling but holy frick.
having dykes on it lessened the experience
I got bored after 5 minutes.
Literally completely missed the point
should've made its point quicker
The controls some how feel worse then 1. And lots of empty rooms/time wasters.
Insists upon itself.
people who have never had to care for someone sick just don't get it

The movie was better.
Why haven't you seen Lost Highway yet, Ganker?
Overrated movie, overrated director. He should have went missing after Inland Empire, his greatest film.
Both it and Lynch are underrated. Cope and sneed.
>makes every homosexual morons top 10 every single time
>underrated
How is Ganker smarter than this board?
That entire first bit basically described the atmosphere my life took in the past six months but without the wife being there
Or the party for that matter
I have. The first hour or so was probably the most scared/unnerved I've been watching a movie.
Still not one of Lynch's best but only because his filmography's too strong.

frick yeah dude I've been saying this since I first watched lost highway 10 years ago
the fanbase
The gameplay is garbage
If the game meant for the combat to be awful then why force a lot of it on the player?
its tedious and kills the pacing.
Im not even joking when i say that Silent Hill 2 would have been way better game if it was just a walking simulator with some scripted gameplay
It's not a very good horror game
It isn’t silent and I don’t remember any hills.
Formerly Noisy Prairie
Way too easy to just run past every enemy
I can't fap to it
Dogshit gameplay. Bad voice acting outside of the intro and outro.
everything about it is a flaw
reddit hates SH2 though.
the general not goodness / badness of it in general i would say :/
Tank controls
>flaw
There's no benefit to having to spin around like a turret first when 99% of games let you go straight in the direction you want to go.
You can use 2D controls instead though.
The hitboxes on interactable items is really small or just off. I got stuck in that elevator with bugs for like 10 minutes because James wouldn't look at the buttons.

Non-existant difficulty or resource management.
The boss fights are pretty shitty but that applies to all SH games.

no

no hate. i just havent played it yet. is it canon?

Yes, although I don't think there's a confirmed canon ending.
sh4 follows the main story of alessa?
It doesn't follow Alessa, but the events of prior games are hinted at. James' father is a side character and Dahlia is mentioned several times.
fair enough. what about homecoming and downpour? are there any mentions of alessa in those games?
Homecoming seems to make a small reference to Cybil but it's too vague to confirm anything. Even then, SH ended at SH4 either way and everything after may as well be disregarded.
Why do we hate SH4, again?
>we
also it's spelt again, moron.
Cool atmosphere and I'm ok with the controls. But honestly people just love this game bacause of how 'complex' and 'mature' its themes are
>Le complex and deep dark story
I'm tired of this pretentious trope too
This is the worst game of the series, total snoozefest
Gameplay is kinda awful
It inspired all the psychological horror games about the protagonist's fricked up mental issues and shit
It also didn't have all the cool wacky cult stuff
Would you play a True Detective Season 1 inspired Silent Hill game set in Louisiana, Ganker?
You can have southern gothic without it involving SH. How would a SH game in Louisiana even work?
>make a Silent Hill game
>set it in Louisiana
Pretty redundant question, Anon.
Okay then why would you do it then? Why not just have a southern gothic true detective game with spooky monsters in it? Why call it SH?
Is it a true detective game too? The frick does it matter about what some other SH game is doing?
I'm not buying your game, moron.
Why not? Doesn't Silent Hill 4 and Homecoming take place outside Silent Hill anyways? It's not like it's uncharted territory for Silent Hill's curse to infect areas outside of it.
The upcoming SH game doesn't even take place in the US.
And it's by far the most interesting of the upcoming games they showed
It wouldn't be Silent Hill, but sure, a game in that style would be interesting. A bit off topic but I'd really fricking love a True Detective S1 game In the style of killer7.
Not sure if you mean aesthetically or gameplay wise, but based either way.
Both. This game has drastically influenced my paranoia towards figures of authority and the education system as well as colored my perception of assassins. I haven't played it but loved the atmosphere/music in 1. Is this worth playing
too short
more handholdy and casual than SH1, less "open-world" than SH1, more linear, way less scary than SH1
Trying to stay ahead of the meta, since liking SH1 over SH2 seems to be tbe bigvthing what reasons will we end up saying it's actuallybtbe worse for?
djeeeeimss... u maid me kheppi... djeeeims... wading 4 u.. in are speshul pleighs.. u told me iud teik me 2 dis taun.. but u neva diid.... djeeeims.....
tank controls don't make the game more immersive, scary or thematic.
>don't make the game more immersive
wrong
tank controls are kino, I always pick them given the chance
too much backtracking and being lost ,so you just feel bored rather than spooked, opening the same doors over and over to finally make progress
bosses are a joke
atmosphere was weaker than 1
I can't fix Angela
combat, cohesiveness, too easy, ending conditions are kind of moronic.
Fans of it ruined the franchise.
