The elevator cutscene's tone felt out of place.
All of the boss fights were cheap and flimsy. The game is good at creating a feeling of uncomfortableness, but for the bosses, it felt very off.

The appraisals "bad" and "it's how it is supposed to be" don't negate each other. They are both accurate assessments of the voice acting. I would also like to argue that the voice acting would not prevent a person from understanding the story or James as a character. Hundreds of millions of people watch movies with subtitles all the time.

            >"both accurate assessments of the voice acting"
you could say that but I just don't think people really are smart enough for even a stupid game as silent hill 2 anymore

if they don't dumb down the reboot it will sell like trash and get bombed for being faithful for being trash only horror fans can like and gaming journo gays can only huff their farts over

The flaw is the Silent Hill series as a whole introduced the seed needed to grow deepest lore schizophrenia Theory videos. It was a moment of joy and it brought years of suffering, and tainted the market as a whole. Game design changed for the worse, over simplification with " deep lore " trying to excuse poor gameplay.

It doesn't bother me. The big worry for the remake is the gameplay, for me. After watching that trailer and seeing it was nearly the exact same as the OG 2001 trailer for SH2 EXCEPT there was no gameplay in the new one, I figured something was up.
That said, i'm still hopeful. I doubt it will sell well either way. It's just not a franchise for dumbing down.

someone on team silent deeply understood it and what it does to a person but it's difficult to transmit that to the average player, most of them only "get" it on a surface level

I understand that no one will ever understand your pain anon, surface level understanding is all anyone is ever working with. These words on your screen are nothing compared to my thoughts and feelings. Game is good, people being dumb is guaranteed.

Way better, at least it knows its art house and stick to it.
SH2 doesnt know what it wants to be.
It wants to be art house? then its shallow and doesnt dig deep enough, AW2 from this year destroys it in that regard.
It wants to be a game? not enough gameplay, level design is shit, interactivity sucks
It want to be cheap Resident Evil knockoff? then it failed the combat and monster design is so bad.
It wants to be horror? it fricking failed again, the scare factor is shit because its easy af and monsters pose no threat thanks to their braindead a.i system
It wants to be survival horror? again failed, the game showers you with resources and there is no management for it, rendering decision making pointless.
It wants to be cinematic? the visuals aged like milk, it looks like diarrhea now.

This has to be the most overrated game ever created, par none.
The circlejerk around it is frankly disgusting, i think its because 16 year old posers think they are smart for liking it or something, and its a game you have to buy old console or emulate to play so the rest of the zoomers will not find out how shit it is, youtubers tell them to like it and like good npcs they do.

PS2s can be hacked incredibly easily and games can be run from hard drives or through the internet, both with faster loading speeds. There is absolutely no need to have a physical copy outside of collector autism.

I can't easily play it on PC in 2023. I have to download a bunch of fan mods to make the game work properly on Windows, and it's completely possible that I'll lose access to playing it on Linux, without even more workarounds.

Both. This game has drastically influenced my paranoia towards figures of authority and the education system as well as colored my perception of assassins. I started really disliking the John Wick sequels because so many of the assassins are just fricking ninjas but with guns instead of shuriken, and not depraved psychos who have no code of honor nor concept thereof.
Again, this is quite a bit off topic... Southern Gothic mysteries are a special kind of scary to me. There's no one for miles, and there's dense fricking foliage and swamps all around. Plenty of mud to get buried under, plenty of dirty shacks to get tortured in for weeks until you are finally given the sweet release of death, though your body will never be found. It's almost like Silent Hill in a way, a place that where people who slip between the cracks end up, but there's even deeper fissures that will steal you into a fate that the wider world either doesn't acknowledge or is completely clueless to.
