Come on anon, pacing isn't a difficult term to understands. It simply refers to the rate of major plot events happening in a story. And in GAA1, cases that have one investigation and one court segment last longer than cases in other games that have three investigations and three trial segments. It is just that slow.

No shit. This is why you should have either said that it's fast/slow overall or explained why you think it's inconsistently paced from the get go. Just saying something is "badly paced" is a waste of a post.
That’s actually a canon name for him. The guy who created the gentleman thief arsene wrote a collection of the gentleman thief vs Herlock Sholmes. Back in the Victorian era. So it’s actually a pretty fun reference
Takumi cut out the scene of Mister Oddo getting pegged by Miss Susato and blasting all over Gina's breasts, because he said it added nothing to the plot and frankly I can't forgive him for that.
Why is it that some bumfrick farmer boy who doesn't know anything about real law manages to be a genuinely logical opponent despite believing in witches?
I actually havent gotten around to play Layton+Wright yet (tho I do know what happens thanks youtube) is it worth a playthrough anyways? I just know the vague plot details muh government paint
Yes? I wouldn't say it's an equal game though - it spends more time in Layton mode than it does Wright mode.
That being said, if you just imagine that the "investigation mode" has been replaced by "Layton gameplay", then that's it, that's literally all the game is, a Layton game with very fun Ace Attorney cases in the middle of it.
NTA but I would only recommend it if you're really itching for more Ace Attorney. It feels a lot more like a Layton game with some AA court cases sprinkled in rather than a crossover between the two. There's only 4 court cases and not really any investigation segments, for example, although some people may prefer that. It did pioneer the multiple-witness cross examination and exists in a setting without modern forensics so in a way it's a predecessor to the Great Ace Attorney games. The fact that the court cases involve magic is also pretty interesting.
The music is fricking baller, it has the best objection theme in the entire series: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8lir3h9n2lc
it also has some hot girls
Yeah Id say so. My controversial take as both a PW and PL fan is its actually the best in the bunch. Though I massively agree with the two complaints >not enough PW stuff >too easy for both PW and PL sides
but honestly the theme, style, plot are all amazing, love the witch trials angle, and the music is 10/10 the title screen music did not to be that fricking good.
My least favourite PW moments are the investigations, while I get why we need them to build the case for more complex, difficult trials... theyre always the sloggiest parts and feel IMO too dragged out and slow paced. I wouldnt mind them if they were at least 50% shorter, less dialogue bloated, and more to the point. 90% of the shit in any investigation act is useless filler dialogue, while sometimes good for character building, it does contribute to the sloggy feeling for me.
So the crossover game is just A+ for me there, where its basically "phoenix wright but with no investigations, but rather professor layton stuff"
I only hope we get some sequel where the challenge is quintupled, and phoenix wright gets more action.
>Rockstar and Edgy Samurai in great >Pussy boy and evil queen in good >The fricking investigation 1 killer in eh, as a Prosecutor. Pretty much this.
Apollo already faces alot of opposition in the game from even his allies, and the stuff with Kristoph is really rough so making Gavier a minor antagonist woulda been wasted/feel more samey.

I fully expected one of the jurors in either Game 1 or 2 to be a murderer as a plot twist. I was disappointed that didn't happen and no, I don't think the fat maid who accidentally knocked someone out should count.
I mean a deliberate murderer who finds himself in the jury by pure chance and tries to manipulate the system against you
DGS1 is among the worst games in the series despite its amazing aesthetic and atmosphere
Literally only one good case out of 5. Westerners were spared the atrocious waste of time and cliffhanger that was the end of the first game.
This is the real kicker. Making a video game with pure sequel bait is nightmarish. When the duology is played together it's great, but DGS1 on its own leaves a man wanting.
>Making a video game with pure sequel bait is nightmarish.
I'm playing the duology right now and I couldn't believe it when they ended the first game with a scene where the cast literally stands in a circle and lists off all the plot points that haven't been resolved yet to remind you to buy the sequel. I don't think I've ever seen a game be quite so brazen about it, and it really soured the ending for me. I'm about halfway through GAA2-2 and I'm still kind of seething about it, so my progress has been very slow.
>Op
I actually wholeheartly agree with this which is why I view chronicles as one game
DGS1 is basically a waste of time, with THE worst case in the entire series (2). But DGS2 is the best game is the series (fight me) and to play that you need to set up of DGS1, DGS2 is so fricking good it retroactively makes DGS1 better by simply being of such quality.
>THE worst case in the entire series (2)
No way gay. It's simply an extended tutorial case for Sherlock's deductions and it does alright. It's not even close to the horseshit Apollo's game puts you through in its full-fledged cases.
Its the worst because it's not even case, it really is just an extended tutorial. Even Apollos bad cases are at least actual cases. They make you pay full price for what is only 2/3s of a game anon, GAA1:2 isnt even one full investigation segment. The mystery isnt even good its blatantly obvious what happened. Russian girl was cute tho

The first game is pretty bad with only one good case. It's mostly setup for the second game so most cases end with unsatisfying conclusions and the pacing is way too slow.
The third case might be the most contrived thing I have ever seen.
>most contrived >when anon posts the layton game below you
i couldn't even finish the Layton game because the Layton series writing is so dogshit that I can't stand it's lazy "we were all moronic" plots even if shoehorn into PW.
Layton games are fun BECAUSE of how crazy it is. And the puzzles. It's basically an old European adventure cartoon dialed up and made into a puzzle game.
This series jumped the gun right when they felt like they couldn't write Phoenix as the main character anymore. Older more mature Wright could have been kino. But they always had to have a fish out of the water protagonist every single time.
An underdog is more interesting than the greatest lawyer alive. Can't have the same amount of drama without Phoenix looking like an incompetent senile man
It focuses on him more developing his backstory sure but for 99% of it you're playing as Phoenix, you might as well say GAA is a Van Zieks game because the entire story is really all about him.
I'll do you one better: >3D (better looking than DD/SoJ but still) >slow dialogue/text speed compared to the DS games (which were already slow - issue with all the 3ds games) >GAA1 is mediocre like JfA, AAI and AJ, has only one decent case and is carried hard by the character interactions, music and charming visuals
At least the second game salvaged some of the glaring issues, namely the cases but it wasn't without faults either. The hologram Sherlock sequence at the end wasn't the charming kind of silly, it was fricking moronic. Still I'm hoping that AA7 is actually more of a game like the great ace attorney, I'm tired of seeing Phoenix and Apollo all the time.
One thing I really appreciated doing is setting the japanese voices for the first cases in each game, then switching to the english voices for the london sections which were the majority of each game. I wish the game would've done this automatically, but even in the originals the objections all were in japanese. Even if the english VAs were less good I think it was better for immersion
>item that is irrelevant to the case but is inserted into your court record for no reason other than to do a heckin chekhov's gun later on
Hate this cringe shit.
Strongheart was so obviously Evil/suspicious I was wondering if it was like gonna be a misdirect or something
The thing that threw me off is the fact that we knew him for so long. He seemed suspicious at the start but as time went by I started trusting him. Of course I suspected him once the last case rolled around but it felt like more of a shocker than Gant ever was.
I found Stronghart like someone who actually had a lot reason for his actions, like sure, he did a lot of awful shit in the story but he kind of did make London a better city with less crime on the streets since everyone was afraid of the Reaper.
I did enjoy my time with this game and I think ace attorney games taking place in different setting is always great.but It felt like it was missing something and I'm not really a fan of the whole conspiracy.Someone said that this was meant to be a trilogy and yeah I can see it
big fan of previous ace attorneys, hopped into this one and all I got were incredibly fricking boring cases where someone else spells out exactly what's the catch, so there's literally nothing to figure out by yourself
also every case in the first game felt like an extended tutorial, I couldn't weather to the second game
cool music tho
I'd like a TGAA3 to be in Japan like the ending sets up. I hope what that would mean is committing to a mostly new cast of characters, so take a break from Sholmes, Iris, Gina, etc.
We never got the third game about how Holmes and Moriarty switched places years ago fulfilling the foreshadowing of the first thing Holmes ever shows you how to do is escape handcuffs
>Skip 1 because everyone says it sucks >Start with 2 >First case has you playing as a girl dressed as a guy. She's fun, charismatic and a great protag >Get to the next case >She's a boring sidekick in a kimono the rest of the game
Iris feels like she's either someone's pet character or they just gave up at some point and shoved a bunch of character roles into one because they needed a third underage quirky girl.
Unifnished and rushed. It's missing, at least, an entire game. They had to bullshit the ending with literally out of this world tech to make up for it. Not calling Sherlock his real name because they were afraid of being sued for bullshit.
Not enough Susato impregnation.
Also case 2 of the first game was such a slog to get through. I put the game down for months because I really did not care for that case, but once I got through it I ended up marathoning the rest of the game and the second.
>so... you're saying you were at place at scene of the crime? >yes i at place at the scene of the crime, and I was doing xyz >THIS IS THE POINT YOU KNOW WHAT EVIDENCE TO PRODUCE >[hmmm so he was at place at the scene of the crime... doing xyz...] >[wait! if he was at place at the scene of the crime... that much mean...!] >your honor! >yes? >the defendant just statement he at the scene of the crime! >yes he did >and he also stated he was doing xyz! >hmmmmm did he....? >oh yes I suppose he did >then that must that he also was able to....! >THIS IS THE POINT YOU CAN PRODUCE THE EVIDENCE
I couldn't get past the second case, my time isn't valuable but it's worth more than sitting through endless text boxes of this
The jury shit was awful
Common law is just cringe tbh
Extremely predictable. It was the first AA game where I figured out every single twist way ahead of the game
>characters arrive in angloland >UWAAAAAA SUGOI SUGOI IGIRISU-CHAN SUGOI tbh NEEEEEE NIPPON SO INFERIOR TO GREATO BRITAIN AND THEIR SUPERIOR FORMS OF GENOCIDAL IMPERIALISM HONTONI SUGOOOOOOOI

missing the Gina dating sim feature
No Shelly de Killer
The first one appeared around the time this game takes place
>He does not know
It's not the same
Unlike Sasha or whatever the frick her name was, de Killer was canonically never caught
holy frick that would've been kino, especially since assassination plots are an integral element of the story
So how does the localization square the circle of the protagonist being white in the localization, and the theme of racial conflict?
He's not white, he's Japanese.
Anon what are you talking about?
Susato looks cute in this photo!
>item that is irrelevant to the case but is inserted into your court record for no reason other than to do a heckin chekhov's gun later on
Hate this cringe shit.
I can forgive it because of how funny and morbid it is to think that Gregsons dead corpse is in there.
I'm seething that because of this meta reason I knew what was in the suitcase the second we learned he died
I found strong
hart really mid.He just felt like worst gant to me which is bad considering that he is supposed to the big bad mastermind behind it all
Strongheart was so obviously Evil/suspicious I was wondering if it was like gonna be a misdirect or something
New game when?
I did enjoy my time with this game and I think ace attorney games taking place in different setting is always great.but It felt like it was missing something and I'm not really a fan of the whole conspiracy.Someone said that this was meant to be a trilogy and yeah I can see it
I remember some of the later cases having some really stupid "I win" twists
big fan of previous ace attorneys, hopped into this one and all I got were incredibly fricking boring cases where someone else spells out exactly what's the catch, so there's literally nothing to figure out by yourself
also every case in the first game felt like an extended tutorial, I couldn't weather to the second game
cool music tho
only flaw is there are only 2 games. we need more.
I'd even take another new regular Ace Attorney, I am down bad.
I'd like a TGAA3 to be in Japan like the ending sets up. I hope what that would mean is committing to a mostly new cast of characters, so take a break from Sholmes, Iris, Gina, etc.
The entirety of 1-2.
I didn't discover a new chapter of Apollo's backstory in this one, very cringe.
no watson sex scene
sholmes is a stupid name but I understand why they had to do it
No Ryunosuke and Susato kiss, we know she's Phoenix ancestor too it's obvious as frick so they should show them kissing
>we know she's Phoenix ancestor too
Nice headcanon
We never got the third game about how Holmes and Moriarty switched places years ago fulfilling the foreshadowing of the first thing Holmes ever shows you how to do is escape handcuffs
Honestly, both of the Soseki trials were not that enjoyable for me
too much of the investigation segments
>Skip 1 because everyone says it sucks
>Start with 2
>First case has you playing as a girl dressed as a guy. She's fun, charismatic and a great protag
>Get to the next case
>She's a boring sidekick in a kimono the rest of the game
Frick.
ANON NO
1 sucks fricking hard, but it's required to enjoy 2
Bitch-ass protag with as much charisma as Apollo, not as humorous as most mainline games. Sholmes was the saving grace of these games.
Iris is a dogshit character
Iris feels like she's either someone's pet character or they just gave up at some point and shoved a bunch of character roles into one because they needed a third underage quirky girl.
she's so fricking overdesigned
and I can't stand this Japanese fetish for having inappropriately young girls around
miss me with that shit
ywnbaw
I found it really funny they barely used her obnoxious theme music in the second game. They knew.
Unifnished and rushed. It's missing, at least, an entire game. They had to bullshit the ending with literally out of this world tech to make up for it. Not calling Sherlock his real name because they were afraid of being sued for bullshit.
Best girls appear too late.
Not enough Susato impregnation.
Also case 2 of the first game was such a slog to get through. I put the game down for months because I really did not care for that case, but once I got through it I ended up marathoning the rest of the game and the second.
It has pacing issuea but id rather play it than the shit that were Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice.
>so... you're saying you were at place at scene of the crime?
>yes i at place at the scene of the crime, and I was doing xyz
>THIS IS THE POINT YOU KNOW WHAT EVIDENCE TO PRODUCE
>[hmmm so he was at place at the scene of the crime... doing xyz...]
>[wait! if he was at place at the scene of the crime... that much mean...!]
>your honor!
>yes?
>the defendant just statement he at the scene of the crime!
>yes he did
>and he also stated he was doing xyz!
>hmmmmm did he....?
>oh yes I suppose he did
>then that must that he also was able to....!
>THIS IS THE POINT YOU CAN PRODUCE THE EVIDENCE
I couldn't get past the second case, my time isn't valuable but it's worth more than sitting through endless text boxes of this
>AAI2troony madly upset
The jury shit was awful
Common law is just cringe tbh
Extremely predictable. It was the first AA game where I figured out every single twist way ahead of the game
>characters arrive in angloland
>UWAAAAAA SUGOI SUGOI IGIRISU-CHAN SUGOI tbh NEEEEEE NIPPON SO INFERIOR TO GREATO BRITAIN AND THEIR SUPERIOR FORMS OF GENOCIDAL IMPERIALISM HONTONI SUGOOOOOOOI
