this, you know a game is bad when it comes with its own bot so you're discouraged from actually playing the game
everyone played it for 2 days before just going back to XI
>Story is a total rip-off of Star wars + LOTR
I only played up until you return to the starting city after a... temple, iirc? But I don't understand how it's rip-off of SW.
>Offline MMO
people say this all the time, but what does it mean?
I play MMOs consistently and I don't see anything in XII that is MMO-ish. I guess hunts, maybe? But that's entirely optional content.
the rest is just shitflinging, shit music? Bland party? Fran and Balthier are some of the most iconic FF characters in the entire series.
the OST has the single most unique and recognizable soundscape of any RPG, anyone who played any Ivalice games can instantly recognize it as "Ivalice music". https://youtu.be/zNk_sfbyIkM
it's megabased and megasovl
what MMOs are automatic aside from Runescape? Mabinogi?
When XII came out WoW was already a thing and that was never automatic, neither were Everquest or Asheron's Call.
Also this might be just me, but I never bothered with the gambits. They cost money to unlock and I can just do the same thing manually, and it's more fun and engaging that way too.
The only actual use for gambits is making overnight mob farming setups for the post-endgame. I can't imagine someone voluntarily going out of their way to automate their videogame and then watch it play itself, I don't think that's how most people experienced it.
I only see gambits mentioned on Ganker, but if I talk to people it seems like nobody really bothered past making some auto-ether setup.
In terms of grind, FFXII seemed like the biggest jump or transition that I've ever seen in the series. >really obscure and esoteric methods of obtaining items/encountering monsters >don't touch this one specific treasure chest if you want the super weapon >.00001% drops
Of course the whole series had low rate drops, but like I said, it seemed like this game took a jump
but that's all post-game optional content
nobody who just plays the entire game would encounter that, or bother with the zodiac spear or the postgame hunts
that's like judging XIII by the postgame which actually lets you pick your team and upgrade characters how you want, while obviously the entire rest of the game never lets you do that and even locks your crystarium
I don't know about you, but tons of people care more about the post game or spend more time on the postgame than the campaign.
But don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily complaining, the grind isn't even really required, but I'm just saying it all contributes to it feeling like an MMO
Confirmed 7+10bab. Even setting aside things like ff9 excalibur or ff11 drops, have you ever actually tried to get things like adamant armor in ff4? FF12 has some serious issues with endgame items, like improperly translated hints in NPC dialogue or the phon coast chest hint for zodiac spear being entirely lost in translation, but none of them have to do with drop rates.
It is tab target combat. The animations are MMO tier as well.
The zones looks like an MMO.
The characters are as poor as an MMO too.
Hence, it is like an MMO.
It's not tab target at all, what the hell are you smoking?
You can't just add "MMO" to anything and pretend like that makes sense. MMOs are extremely varied. WoW is nothing like XIV, XIV is nothing like BDO and BDO is nothing like PSO2.
so what do you actually mean? That there's map traversing that takes time? I genuinely don't understand why everyone keeps saying it, it's such a spurious connection to make
that just makes you sound like you've played neither
idk how you could have that opinion

I haven't played XI, but after watching a quick video, it's absolutely apt. >battle log constantly keeping track of every mundane happening >character auto attacking with unnatural animations where you strafe around while attacking almost like your upper and lower bodies are detached >you have to be kind of close for the attack to happen, but even if you are too far away, or you separate during the attack animation, it magically connects anyways >quickly jumping in and out of "combat mode" with zero pomp and circumstance
I don't know how the in depth battle mechanics may differ, but you are being willfully ignorant if you can't draw parallels between the feel of the two.
>Why do people say that bloodstained plays like castlevania. Like what does that even mean?! Is it because they both jump? Because they both attack enemies? Are you saying that mario odyssey also plays like Castlevania?
Bloodstained and Castlevania are literally the same game, made by the same dude.
XII still plays nothing like an MMO.
You control a party of 3 characters and coordinate them to win by giving them commands through an ATB system.
Besides the visuals, XII and VII play the same, with the addition of range in a 3D space reminiscent of the tactics games.
Nobody says VI or VII play like an MMO though.
It's 3 homies in a row ATB, with summons and limit breaks.
I think you're just blinded by some visuals that remind you of MMOs? Maybe the UI?
Most of the combat in this game revolves around mmorpg-like auto attacks. Then it becomes even more auto because the game is built around you configuring a priority list of if statements for your party. You could technically do everything manually, but that ruins the flow of the game.
>You could technically do everything manually, but that ruins the flow of the game.
I think spending 20 minutes setting up your gambits every 2 hours ruins the flow of the game
selecting commands like in every other FF game feels natural
>20 minutes
LOL
Usually you just need to add in an extra step to prioritize attacking a flying enemy that exists in that area.
What ruins the flow of the game is the characters constantly queuing up the wrong attack, and you have to pause everything to select the right attack. >BUT EVERY OTHER GAME HAS YOU SELECT ATTACKS!
The enemies in 12 have way more HP and take longer to kill. having to select "fire" over and over and over is not how the developers intended
I always play it with minimal or no gambits at all and it's perfectly fine
just select fire dude
like how are you going to set up all your gambits and then complain the game feels like runescape? Just play the game. Gambits cost gil too so you're going out of your way to get those instead of armor or weapons or spells, just to complain after.
I agree with this.
10 was by far much better. Tho no disrespect on people who like 7. It was probably a great time to play as a kid.
But it was just ok to me. The characters were great tho.
please no
if they "remake" it they'll do some moronic shit like add XIV's fake male viera, retcon them as "asexual and agender until 10 years old" (they really pulled this shit) and do some moronic gay ass time travel, multidimension garbage involving characters from TA and TA2
I hope to God they stay the frick away from all Ivalice games, Nu-Square doesn't deserve to touch them
Don't see how you can think this. The only people who like 7r are drooling compilationtards who want to clap when they see sephiroth. There's no overlap with 12's audience
I love XII, loved it before the revisionists all did a u-turn and made out the game they'd been shitting on for years was all of a sudden great. It's a great game but there are flaws. To make out this game is perfect is stupid. I hate hate hate the way this game boots you back to the title screen when you lose. Sure, a lot of other FF games also do this but it IS a flaw. Take me back to the last saved state, don't waste my time by booting me back to the menu.
There isnt a single Moogle, Nu Mou, Garif, Bangaa, or Seeq party member. What a fricking waste, there was no point in using Ivalice if they were just going to ignore all the races.
Trying to hard to be Star Wars
I feel like the story could do without Penelo and Larsa. Its been some time since I last played it but IIRC they don't serve much of role in the game.
also these
Not long enough.
Penelo's story being cut.
No unique costume for jobs.
No if/else gambit.
It's either no exp gains or piss easy enemies.
Piss easy enemies.
I also wish they would expand the bounty hunter system, I really enjoyed that one.
I enjoyed helping other anons with cure manipulation (still works btw) many many years ago, was fun.
Even though the game has some very apparent flaws, its still a great experience nonetheless

Is there a wiki anymore that details all the cut content in this game along with all the weird stuff in the code that doesn't make sense?
Would love to know since I unironically like this game a lot and would love to look more into it.
Every time I try to get into this game and start a new file, I ALWAYS either get filtered or bored by the time I reach the tomb dragon/moving wall boss.
>turn-based combat pretending to not be by allowing you to move characters >literally pointless >Gambit system isn't a bad idea but now my game time is taken up by something that plays the game for me >too convoluted and should have had "set" behaviors rather than a gorillion individual parameters
The story seems like it will pick up and will be fun even though it's very political in the beginning. Someone tell me why I should try again (other than delicious Fran).
The license board/customization. OG version was best, but no matter how you it, it's just a troublesome skilltree. I'm not saying "use the FF5 job system", but a system where you can create a mechanically complex, varied and viable team is worthy of striving for. In that regard, we've pretty much only got 5, Bravely games, tactics, and tactics advance 2.
The last one is worth mentioning again, cause it doesn't just use 5's system, it uses both 5's AND 9's, to great effect.
15 had an interesting, but poorly used, idea of making you combination of royal arms your class/job. I guess 7R tries the same, but with even less success (I love them both though).
I love this game but there are definitely flaws. How about having the lamest final boss in the series? Who thought roiding out Vayne was a good idea? Anyone?

Not enough Fran. Whole game should've just been a Viera breeding simulator.
Doing the fun world/hunts/side quests causes you to completely outstrip the game's level pacing and make it to easy.
Same problem with Dragon's Dogma.
give this a remake like ff7 and you will see these people say its the best ff game
7 was never good. It's overhyped because it was babbys first jrpg back in the day. It's not hard to surpass it.
It's still the best of the PS1 era. 8 and 9 are painfully slow and have no respect for your time in battles.

I’ve played this game multiple times and got the platinum but didn’t know this because I never lost. Sounds like a skill issue. :^)
But yes, it has flaws, despite being great.
You mean to say in all the times you played it you never dashed ahead to a level that was beyond you? Looks like a pretty timid playstyle to me.
No, I’m exaggerating. I got wrecked when the game first came out on PS2 as I was ridiculously underleveled. I just don’t remember this issue.
No party chatter
You can go several hours of playing the game without the party member interacting with each other
Vaan and Penelo are along for the ride and not really part of the story, just there to be cute and 'relatable'

I was actually thinking of playing this for the first time and I see this thread
Is FF12 a good entry point into the series?
>Is FF12 a good entry point into the series?
hell no
No. Play 6, 7 or 10. Alternatively 4 is good for beginners if you've never played a JRPG.
12 is the best of the series but it won't give you the FF experience, just play one of the popular ones like 6, 7 or 10.
No Nu Mou/Bangaa/Moogle party members.

Reminder that Vayne Solidor did many things wrong and could've done better if he co-operated with his brother and father.

Nothing will ever surpass Ivalice, simple as that.
why would invest my time in a game with 10+ versions and they'll just release a new one next year, rendering all my progress obsolete?
Just play the original, is more challenging and the licence board is overhated.
