That we got two RD Elincias this year was kinda wack. Ascended Elincia wasn't even that good, though the Legendary Elincia is quite strong.

Hard to say, This year had a ton of characters I wanted.
Probably Mark/Lyn duo, or Brave Gullveig. Summer Ymir would have won if Eir wasn't a backpack, but it's not too big of a deal. I'm just glad Eir got something, and was backpacked to someone relevant. Her paralogue story was also nice.

Specifically this year would be either Brave Gullveig or Summer Ymir. Would've preferred that Eir was the front unit but I did like Ymir a lot too. I don't remember all the refine/remixes that happened this year but for built units I'm glad I'm able to use Kronya again reliably. Rally Spectrum and prime skills was such a huge damage boost for her. Another highlight was finishing up +10 Ganglot this year.

L!Hinoka hands down. Post-Conquest Hinoka shows the most interesting part of her character, and not only she's got wonderful art, they also made her a top tier unit.
Also really liked fallen Chrom, I'm all for more creative alts like that in the future.

I'll constantly swap it around for scoring purposes. I was planning on duplicating distant a/s solo with rearmeds, but I'm not sure it's still a good idea now that pretty much anyone who can run it will want DC seal for optimal scoring.

You could definitely replace her c skill for panic smoke 4 if you're lucky, or def/res ploy
Wings of Mercy B would be really useful if you plan on running her on AR-D. Soaring Guidance or regular Guidance 4 would also be good sidegrades for AR-D (not like you lose out by not grabbing her Prf C anyway)

Legendary Camilla! I love the pre-battle damage. Gave her an AoE build and she dunks max invested Duo Byleths.

Definitely L!Seliph and B!Marianne. Seliph went from the worst legendary unit to one of my most reliable units, despite being +1. Marianne is nice because I had her +10 and her refine gave her everything she could ever want

Probably ninja Hana or valentine's Hana. Ninja Hana already has AS Distant Solo, but valentine's Hana could definitely use a better A skill

Attuned Nino, Attuned Peony and Rearmed Plumeria, I like the fairies overall and Nino has been a huge help. I also finally gave new sets to vanilla Nino, vanilla Doot and H!Sophia, they feel so strong now and I'm pretty happy.

I realized I have almost no physical melee units other than S!Ylgr and Marcia who were recently given new sets. I have a +7 vanilla Ike and +6 Brave Ike, so I might make these two my new projects.

I'm summoning for hopefully 2 copies of Male Kana one to fodder to my R!Grima for inheritance purposes and the other to pass on his skills to another speedy dragon so not to waste my Grima copy yet.

I have several. For support it'd be Cornelia since map wide flash is so powerful, too bad Duo!Byleth countered that. For favorite art it'd be Fomortiis since he just looks powerful. Favorite seasonal is Bunnydetta since she looks cute. This year's MVP unit is Fallen Byleth since she has unpiercable DR as long as she attacks first and she carried me until damage at the start of combat became more prevalent. Overall I enjoyed the variety of units added this year.

To be honest I don't regularly build melee(axe/sword/lance) units and the ones I did have DC baked into their weapon/kit or they are player phase units. I guess I can give it to my Flame Emperor.

Cant you buy certain bundles which will increase your SP gain? They are a bit rare but you could look out for those

It's a close tie between Brave Gullveig, Halloween Timerra, Summer Fjörm and Resplandescent Nephenee for me. Their designs are pretty good Neph is the cutest but I have a bias for armored girls and they have been pretty useful with little to no investment or with a lot of investment in Neph's case.

Tough choice, I'd like to give it to Nephenee or to Timerra but reducing the former stats by taking her current seal to isn't too appealing for me and the latter already has Atk/Spd Solo DC. Honestly I have so many DC armored tanks I can't be bothered to give it to someone for now.

It all depends on what units you want or want to go for. Are you aiming for anyone in particular?

No, I was just thinking about amassing the most high tier units.
Rolling red/blue/green on the Camilla banner would get your account off to a good start. Edelgard and Byleth on the Christmas banner should also have decent staying power, but if you're just looking to amass a good number of good units, then stick to the legendary banner.
Then your best bet would be either the 8% banner (the one with Legendary Camilla), because there's a lot of good units there, although keep in mind that at least two are available for free, namely Ratatoskr and one of either Robin, Gullveig, Soren, or Corrin
The Winter banner also has some very powerful units, so that's worth dipping into
Going after strong units isn't bad, in fact, it's good if you're starting out. But, at the rate powercreep has been ramping up, you'll get burnt out quickly if you roll every time a busted unit releases. Nothing sucks more than rolling for unit and realizing that it's been invalidated a month later. Once you've got a good core for pve content, you should focus on what you need or characters you like. If you roll on christmas banner, a team of Dimitri/Edelgard (high mobility melee nuke), Yunaka (long move ranged tank), Byleth (far save tank) and then a decent dancer will get you far. Do full rolls to save orbs and be efficient on the way to the spark.
tl;dr
Get a decent core and then become a favoriteschad/impulsetard, it's the only way to have fun with this game
If you just started out, it's best to just save and roll on a solid monthly 8%(Legendary/Mythic) banner, and get some 5* units. This way you can get a plethora of units to use in different modes, and get a footing. If you have someone in particular you want, then you might as well hoard orbs for them, but it isn't fully needed. Merges aren't as valuable anymore, and are really only there if you want to brag to other people, or spoil your waifu. You get aroudn 300 orbs a month, and sparking is usually a maximum of 200 orbs, so you should be able to get at least 1 character on a NH banner each month. If its a holiday banner, than you might get fricked unless you buy FEH pass for sparking, but usually 200ish orbs is enough to get them anyways.
You can roll on the christmas or legendary banner
The christmas banner has DByleth who's a great tank, Edelgard who can act like 3 times per turn, Dimitri and Yunaka are also great and it has a spark

To elaborate more, she went from not being able to taking out any armor units to decimating 95% of the cast save for B!Ike and a few others. She's so fricking fun to use nowadays. I even picked up Rein Snap for her and want to give her Prime.

I knew trying to tank against Camilla was going to be bad but tried for curiosity’s sake and good lord Askr got his head handed to him. This was just the hard difficulty fight when she’s freaking level 30 albeit with all of her skills but still. It’s really demoralizing seeing the few characters I like to use and have built and saved for just to see them lose their usefulness. Picnic Felicia either works surprisingly well or falls flat on her face. Summer Mercedes has been a decline since the end of last year. Flame Tribe Mordecai got bested by a Summer Male Shez in arena a few weeks back and now Askr has really started to decline.
Is it even possible to enemy phase Camilla when she strips away over half if not most of your HP just for existing? It's such nonsense

How many merges does your Askr have and what skills and support did you use?
Here’s the team I used. Askr is at +6 merges, +15 dragonflowers. He has Distant Reversal, Counter Roar 4. His Prf Skill and the Squad seal that gives +5 HP and +3 attack and defense. As for the team Saber and Duessel don’t do anything but Gerik has his Prf weapon and it’s refine and he has Rally Defense/Resistance +.
It's a noble endeavor, but you gotta also understand that there are some units in this game you do NOT let them initiate on you. This b***h technically attacks three times hitting his weaker defense.

Oh I understand that trying to survive against Camilla wasn’t going to work. I even said I tried for curiosity’s sake. I will admit I thought Askr could at least survive the Hard difficulty version of her and I was wrong. And I know that there are units you can’t tank because it’s either extremely difficult or impossible but the list of units you can’t let initiate combat is getting larger ever 2-3 weeks. It’s tiring.

said. The Shez I fought had Atk/spd Catch 4, gambit with Aether, atk/spd menace. And Atk/Spd Catch 3 seal. I knew about the gambit damage but completely forgot about his weapon’s effect which even with Mordecai on a defense tile did 27 damage a hit which was just enough to kill. Here’s what I’m running for my Mordecai if anyone has any suggestions to improve him please let me know and that goes for Askr as well.
Counter Roar would be good if you can get that, it gives him at least some form of damage reduction
Funnily enough, he could also put Gambit to good use too for that same purpose, and with Tempo in his weapon and some means of Special accel that can help you actually use a Special like Aether in a reasonable amount of time

I had considered Counter Roar for him but didn’t pull the trigger because I had only managed to get two copies of Corrin back in August and one immediately went to Askr. I know damage reduction is great but with Lull Atk/def most units have at least -20 atk during combat. With counter roar that won’t be possible since it can’t get rid of bonuses but the damage reduction probably would even that out but I don’t know for certain.
How the hell does S!M!Shez kill F!Moredecai doesn’t he have a metric ton of defense
Gambit at max power lets you deal 15 damage at least, then add another dozen from his weapon (20% of his Spd as damage, let's say he can reach at least 70 Spd)
And that's two hits striking twice, so if you have no means of damage reduction then that's the minimum amount of damage you'll be taking
What was your luckiest banner of the year? Unluckiest?
This was the only circle I entered on this banner, but probably this. It was nice, but at the same time I can't bring myself to heavily invest in witch Mia since her stats are really underwhelming and Hortensia is going to be my staff flier whenever she gets released.
Can't really think of any notably unlucky banners this year. My luck felt pretty average overall.
Luckiest was probably getting rearmed lucina in the free pull of her banner, unluckiest was the rearmed and ascended heroes banner with tiki and ophelia, where i didn't get a single 5* besides spark until pull 60 something, with my last orbs on the last day of the banner
On the CYL banner, I only obtained one copy of Academy Ingrid in 40 summons. That killed my mood to summon an additional 120 times.
Maxed out L!Camilla favor last night. I think I'm gonna back to SD farming because I'm having fun with my team (AoE L!Cam with turn 1 AoE from Velouria, L!Hinoka, Ninjacam, and Harmonic Azura)

Absolutely the Legendary Cam banner. 1300 orbs and I got her at +10. If I merged all the F!Alear I got, she'd be at +8 (I had none before). I also got 7 Brave Soren and 3 Brave Robin (among others), so I'm swimming in some good fodder.
Second best would be AHR back in February, I was able to finish +10'ing Ninjacam and I got a lot of R!Ophelia and L!Veronica along the way.
Third best would be the Sonya and Peony banner; did my 40 pulls and got 4 Peony and 1 Sonya plus I sparked another Sonya. Used those Peony to duplicate Soaring Guidance onto a lot of Camilla and also some Ploy 4s.

I had to spark on the DSH banner for Summer Ivy. Up to spark, I got baby Eliwood, and I had some pity after spark so I tried to go for another Ivy, but got Ephraim'd.
I also had to spark for Arcane Void, but I got Isadora and Attuned Nino on the way.
Honestly, it's been a pretty damn good year for summoning for me. I'm saving up again for AHR, but after that I really don't know what I should save for; I started saving for L!Cam once L!Hinoka dropped with a few hundred orb hits for fodder and stuff along the way, so I'm back to kinda having nothing to look forward to in game apart from SD grinding Camilla alts. Maybe if Ivy wins CYL, I'll save up for her.

Another noob question, what am I even doing with 3/4 star heroes if I don't plan on unlocking their potential? Is it utterly useless to level them?
If you aren't building the 3/4 stars you aren't using then they are typically used as fodder to give skills like reposition or sent home as feathers so you have feathers to promote the units you do want to build. So either feather them to remove them from your barracks or manual them to remove them from barracks and use as fodder later.
kind of? There used to be a gimmick where people would +10 them for arena, but I think that is dead.
3-4 star characters you will never use are pretty much just fodder, but that also goes for 5*. Personally, I keep them around for the 3 heroes quests, and LHB content that we used to get. GHBs are always nice to have at max for their reruns.
Use them for fodder, usually to get pre-requisites for fodder of other units (foddering Hinata for Fury 3 so you can get Fury 4 and other skills, as an example)
3* units can give you their positional Assists if they have any
But generally you'll only use them at 4* if you want their Dragonflowers first, then you can get rid of 'em

It's foe's attack, you'll be fine against almost everyone. If it's really that bad, consider trait fruit.
-Atk is meaningless these days. Usually you're killing stuff for over twice their HP or doing 0 damage thanks to flat damage bonuses and damage reduction so 3-4 points of Atk don't do shit

I like it when beast units make sounds of what animal they’re supposed to be even if it’s a small detail. Mordecai and Caineghis roar. Keaton yelps when taking damage. It’s not consistent for every beast unit though granted I don’t know what sounds a rabbit or heron make or if they make any distinct sounds at all.
The fact that neither Ash or Askr moo or even say happy moo year was such a waste of potential.

I felt the way you felt, but for Marni; hated her guts all game long so when they put up the death flags for her, I basically partied because I knew she'd be yeeted out of the story very shortly. The Xenologue features not!Zephia, not!Griss, not!Marni, and not!Mauvier as the Four Winds. 3/4 are characterized wildly differently. YMMV if you like them or not.

Zephia was the only one I'd have expected to be banner material. I hope we get Griss next, and I hope he's a fast Infantry glass cannon with a Miracle effect in his Prf (surely they'd give him one, r-right?). Or if he came with the Vengeance effect on every hit and took pre-battle damage himself and had some sort of Vantage would be really funny (and would slightly mimic that one Celica skill that costed HP to cast).

Has anyone here completed the pokedex? If so, how long/how much effort did it take? Is it even remotely possible to accomplish as a new player or would you have needed to collect since day 1?
I believe, for a new player, it's pretty much impossible unless they very carefully plan their resources for years, and not because of the hundreds of seasonals, legendary/mythic and limited units clogging the pools, but because older GHB and TT units are not rerun at all, so when your only option is having to use grails to get a copy of each, a currency that's dripfed to us, it becomes a fool's errand to even attempt it.

And I also just realized that Dimitri's prf is so huge that it not only covers the entire screen from top to bottom, but the text is also SMALLER, it would make Nirvana High Paladin blush.

My Lilina is kind of outdated. Forblaze, Blazing Wind, Heavy Blade 4, Special Spiral 3, Res Smoke 3 and Fury SS to trigger WoM, I've been wanting to feed her an Ophelia but I'm still missing Atk/Res Finish fodder.
I kind of cracked it down, at least for this map, I'm still missing the last one. What I found is that when dancing with any Plumeria, somehow Byleth would get even tankier than before, so I'm kind of trying to understand which one of his skills is triggering that behavior.
Oh yeah, and to add, that killed for his exact amount of HP.
In that scenario you aren't doubling, which has Weaving Fighter reduce your normal attack by 40% instead of 80%.
Yeah, that's what I thought, which makes it extra annoying because now my debuffs only buff him even more, but at least I finally have that map cracked, it's only a matter of dealing with the last one.
I think I see the issue now, Byleth's Weaving Fighter mitigates more damage if you're able to double him
The first hit's damage is mitigated by 80% in that case instead of 40%
I'm just not sure how Plumeria is affecting it, but maybe the Spd debuffs cause Lilina to outspeed Byleth and trigger that part?

I think my main concern is how should I build her, I already my fully invested Nowi as my main blue kete with Arcane Grima and who's already hoarding the DC seal, so I was thinking on building Kana purely as a Player Phase unit, but she will still want Counter Roar anyway.

I'm sure how good DC even is on her as it's mostly an enemy phase skill, and the game seems to be heading towards playerphase nukes The issue is that DR penetration, true damage, and precombat damage, or just nukes in general, seem to be getting more powerful. Kana's defensive stat is lack luster in 2023, and her res stat is just above average. swapping to an offensive/playerphase build might be better later on.

I've always been matched against people around my tier. I sit around 1000 favor and i usually don't get paired against anyone with more than 1400 favor, but I also only do SD close to when it ends. I guess it's possible most people at my tier also just wait until the last minute to do it.
I've honestly rarely get matched with people in my tier. I seem to get matched to people usually 5-7 tiers over me at best and worst people who hit the maxed tier playing for "fun". And this happens no matter when I queued up such as when it starts, during the middle of the event or even the end. It is almost always high tier players I match with.
If you can kill the far save unit that protects Elincia, she's a pushover herself. If you're gonna run a dead slot, you can do way better than GK; I think Embla would be much more worth it for disabled Duo Byleth, getting a surprise kill on Elincia, and then having them scramble
But yeah the matchmaking is moronic, I think they try and match your tier ish, but there's also only so many people playing.

Here's my list of current manaketes. From here, who would benefit the most from New-Sun Stone? I noticed that most of their prfs are either fine or waiting for a refine, except for FKana and maybe Myrrh, while W!Fae would definitely like a new toy, Surprise Breath is getting kind of outdated.
And who would like Dragon Stone? I think only the Tikis have enough speed to benefit from it, but YTiki already has Arcane Grima and I think the rest still want their prfs, but I want to be sure if I should roll for another NY!MKana. You get most of your Lift from Offense. Offense is significantly more important.
Guaranteed Follow Up + 30% DR + bonus damage is very hard to beat as a B skill. GFU is best friends with NFU (which Whitewing Bow gives) as the only way to nullify GFU if (You) have NFU is your opponent having at least defensive NFU.

This is where it becomes a Speed check, if you have NFU and GFU your opponent needs to have defensive NFU ("Neutralizes effects that guarantee foe's follow-up attacks").
However, if your foe does not have this, then they cannot negate your GFU and you will always auto double. This why Hardy Bearing Brave Hector was so oppressive when Hardy dropped; Maltet stopps foe follow ups and Hardy gives him defensive NFU, so you needed to have at least Offensive NFU to be able to double him (on PP).

All that being said, Desp4 is a valid sidegrade. I just think BA4 is probably the best B skill to splash onto any unit because it does so much and 30% DR is nothing to sneeze at.
As I said, if you have NFU and you're faster then you don't need GFU to double. The only exception is if you're faster by less than 5 and, let's be real, that's probably never going to be the case because no one has that much speed on EP. Even aside from Desperation, surely you'd get more utility from something like Seal Def, Seal Spd, Guard, or even Snag or Trace compared to Brash Assault.

Godswords just DC to splash in, which means Fallen Byleth and Flame Lyn are ready to frick your day up. A max invested Inigo before stats or weapons has 54 Spd, and he's a shitter demote; speed creep is only going to get worse and any given old unit will only get a +1 to Spd yearly from DF without counting new skills. I don't think GFU + NFU is bad at all.
The GFU in this case requires speed(but only 1 more then opponent) because you get the NFU from a "bonus" effect which is spd based NFU.

When building up your aether raid structures, should you give priority to offensive or defensive buildings? Especially the fortress, should I level up offense or defense first? My first instinct tells me offense is more important, but some guides tell me to level the defensive fortress first and now I'm uncertain.
Offense fortress first. Odds are if you're just starting off in AR, you'll get your defense obliterated for a while even if your fortress was maxed out.
Structures, however, I've only touched defense. On offense I only use the ladder, fortress and whatever the bonus structure is so I have no reason to invest in offensive structures. Reason being I like having the extra row behind me to Smite units over the mountain on the desert map if needed.
That makes sense to me. My thinking was that I have far more control over the outcome of a match when playing offense, so that should be my priority. But then I'm reading this:

I agree. I always wanted powerup akin to gbf's perpetuity ring where you have to grind for them like crazy but it's like an emblem for your dedication to the character. Not that he's a deep character, but to pretend he's just an apolitical for hire mercenary leader with no thoughts about the world at large is a disservice to his character. In PoR he's naive and doesn't know anything about the world; the more he learns of it he becomes jaded towards Laguz/Beorc relations and loathes royals that are all talk, no action (he gives up his seat in the Crimea Royal Court because it was all ministers arguing and doing nothing). In RD, Ike is not only cynical as frick, but also it's commented on how the GMs still love in their Crimean crapshack despite Ike becoming a royal in PoR and them being the literal saviors of the war; because they only take on jobs they view as morally correct. He respects the hell out of Caineghis for taking a hard stance on siding with Crimea, and he respects Tibarn for being on the frontlines fighting on behalf of Phoenicis.
You can take all of these talking points and create Ike's ideal vision for the world: a place where no one is judged for being Laguz/Beorc, where nobles genuinely care about the people in their country.
I'm forgetting basically all of his Part 4 interactions with Yune, but I'm sure there's some "vision for the future" nonsense in there.

He's not Lelouch in actively going out of his way to build a better world that he uniquely envisions, he's not Ashnard where he wants to impose a way on how the world should be ordered, he's not Edelgard as an aggressor who believes X should not exist in the world and would pre-emptively stamp it out. It's good, yeah. Helps against higher Res foes, and it also provides healing when it's needed.
There's not really much else mages can use anyway,
Flare and SS4 allows you to blow up DR mages and dragons with high res.
You don't really need flare to do that, the main thing it does compared to luna is that it can heal which in theory makes it more suited for bulky units. but imo it's not such a significant upgrade compared to something like SS4.
At best, it's a slightly better Luna against Far Save tanks. I don't think it's a must have.
Optimal but disappointing. Everybody wanted it to have DR piercing, but it doesn't, but it is still best in slot for lots of mages.

If a character has at least two Gold passives at base it's good, AND a weapon a weapon with a paragraph at least 10 lines long joy counting keyword descriptions, then it's good.
Else it's outdated trash
As far as inheritance go, all good units really need is a movement skill like Reposition or Draw Back (or Pivot/Swap in the case of armors)
A lot of it is on a mode by mode basis, but general things that make a unit good:
>Damage Reduction
Not taking damage is good
>Cooldown Acceleration
Using lots of specials or using 5 CD specials like Galeforce is good
>Movement
Being able to reach things is very good
>Skills that other units cannot inherit
Usually are tailor made for the unit that has them. These can be weapons, assists, specials, or ABC skills. More skills means more options, and often times a unit can do something no one else can.

Newer units are almost universally better than older units. Lon'qu may have been decent when the game launched, but Felix is much much much better
>Minmaxed stats
If a unit has one or two stats that are VERY high, they can lean into that stat. You'll usually see Speed stacking Infantry/Fliers, Def/Res stacking armors, and Atk stacking Cavs.

To score well, you need a high base stat total (total number of stats before weapons/skills/merges/Dragonflowers), high SP inherited skills (300 is the max for ABCS, 500 for Specials, 400 for Assist, and 400 for weapons), and merges. To start off with, worry most about merges. Deploying a Bonus Unit will double your score, and getting ONE kill with that Bonus Unit gets you +12 points.
As a new player, you don't really have to worry about this stuff until after Tier 18. Just focus on building up 3 units that can kill reliably and then use a Bonus Unit.
>Aether Raids Offense
The first chapter of each book gives you a Mythic unit (they will be either Light or Astra). You need to deploy Light Mythics on Light season and Astra Mythics on Astra season, alongside units you bless with either Light or Astra blessings.
Literally just slot in your best units and some dancers and kill everything while making sure you get the Pots that give you more Aether to keep playing.
For upgrading structures, upgrade your Offense Fortress as much as possible, as you climb it will grant you lots of stat bonuses

You forgot to give an extra shoutout to Canto and teleporting shenanigans. Never can have enough Canto. And if it's baked right into a prf instead of taking up a skill slot it's all the better. Sumia is a shit ass unit from the ancient past and yet you could do much worse than to decide that you want to build her up out of all the outdated lance fliers, purely because she has Canto thrown into her refined weapon.
I can't believe I mentioned Movement, but forgot about Canto and Warp. God bless Soaring Guidance, my favorite skill in the game.

I got 5 Maribelle copies within the first 200 orbs, then the account seeding kicked in and I swear to god I didn't get a single other Maribelle for the next 350-400 orbs, only offbanners and Chr*ms. The remaining copies were dripfed to me around every 70 orbs or so.
I'd say go for those Sumia merges, but do it over a couple banners if you're usually low on orbs (target around 2-3 copies per banner) instead of +10ing in a single banner like I did unless you have loads of squad assault/chain challenges/story/paralogue orb stash.

I have to see peoples clears on the winter lunatic or whatever the orb reward one was. I had to use a lights blessing after too many tries. The winter units are so fricking overtuned it's insane. The fricking powercreep didn't used to be this hard for mostly f2p but my best units probably don't have the required meta since I play so casually. This is the first one since release probably that I had to use one of my 260 lights blessings on. Even then year one was a problem of simply not having merge and units rather than now where edel is flying around doing 3 flame veins.
The worst part of the map in my opinion is the reach of the units
If you think that's bad, wait until you do that map on the Chain Challenge, they all just group together next Byleth so if you don't have a dedicated unit to get rid of him, they'll just maul you alive.

And then we're getting a bunch of Engage votes coming up, and the popularity polls for that have all been either low sample scores of heavily locked to one region. I imagine if Felix voters stay on him and Engage voters are pretty spread, we'll probably see a Feliz/Diamant CYL win.

Top 10 in either male or female division. In CYL7, the rank 100 character (Sakura) had a measly 674 votes; that's not an impressive amount. If we assume every Sakura voter was an aggressive superfan and spent all 7 of their votes (which is a silly assumption), then that's only ~97 people and I don't think that's an impressive amount for a game that has over 50,000 active players. Even if we expand to top 20 in male/female division, it's ONLY Alfonse, Sharena, and Freyja for CYL7. Alfonse and Sharena play a role in every book so they're always going to be popular (which is why they're both top 10), so Freyja is the exception to staying that high. Plumeria went from rank 9 > 27 > 55 > 73.
If we expand our criteria to at least 1000 votes, then there were 7 FEH characters: Bruno, Askr, Fjorm, Freyja, Alfonse, Sharena, and Gullveig. Feel free to make your own opinions on why those characters did well.

Looking at last year's results, Felix and Byleth were above Sigurd by quite a wide margin, but most of Felix's votes mostly come from people who wanted his base form in the game. Now that it happened, I expect his votes to plummet, but Byleth will probably stay where he is. What I do wonder is where will the fujos who were supporting Robin and Soren go. Also, I don't think there's any super popular male Engage character who hasn't made it into the game yet, but people will probably vote for Alear anyway. I will still go all in for Zigludo-sama this year

For the men I think it could be one 3H unit which is either Byleth or Felix. And the other imo is surely Diamant. Potential runner ups are Sigurd, Yuri, Shez or Alphonse. Honestly see Alphonse being a dark horse/underdog since he has consistently and steadily held place and moved up every year.
And the women's side I think it is certainly at least one Engage character Either Yunaka or Female Alear. Other potential position holders depending on people banding together on the women side could be Ivy, Bernadetta, F!Robin, F!Shez or Sharena for the memes.

Because when FEH started intsys decided that the trade off for being able to heal somebody should be: worse skill access, lower damage, lower powered weapons, and lower BST.
Presumably the idea was that unpromoted healers traditionally can't deal any damage, they are friendly pacifists who would rather tend to the wounded and that this should be reflected in the way healers function in Feh. Unfortunately the whole class is borderline worthless, because why would you ever want to field a healer if you can bring another nuke or another tank instead? Staffbots have no niche in Feh but IS doesn't give a shit.
They also haven't been that in a long time. They are basically just arbitrarily shittier tome units now.

There's simply no situation where you'd want to waste a turn with healing if you could just as well attack or reposition or do anything else instead. And in the rare cases where you do want a unit to be healed, it's much more advisable to rely on passive healing effects instead, which hilariously enough are not at all limited to healers.
Yeah, that would be pretty much the only way to rescue staff units from the garbage pile without making them straight tomes by another name. Load as much bullshit effects into the healing skill as the average prf weapon gets these days and then we're talking.
Staff units should be able to provide more support than they're able to now, give 'em a use, let 'em give statuses.
Like instead of, or in addition to healing imagine if you could also give Special charges to whichever unit just on command, like a heal and a pulse all in one. Or let them give the warp status buff like you see from Oath 4, and there you go, that would be like the actual Warp staff from the actual games. Or inversely, have Rescue+ with built in WoM or warping in addition to its draw back effect.
Maybe more stuff like that, have more status effects they can grant just whenever would help give them a niche.

Olwen and Rein were released before inheritance was a thing so they werw both equally shit as in both deleted any red. Olwen had the niche on release of being a Cavalier with Reposition which was pretty rare, while Rein was held back because he had pretty dogshit skills. I miss when QR 2 was still a viable option, even if it was just a rank 2. it feels a lot harder to get by with budget builds these days, even if "budget" now means T4 skills from a year ago.

Or Brave Seliph and Teatime Ayra, also a year apart, 43 Atk 41 Spd vs 44 Atk 46 Spd, to the point where now 40 or 41 Atk or Spd feels VERY slow now, it's gotta be like 45 minimum now

LCamilla and Duo Seidr are absolutely obnoxious. Just when you thought the game couldn't get any worse, IS does it again.
We've been in a death spiral since fedelgard came out. Since then, every new set of units has to hard counter the old set of units because that is the only way to sell to whales now. It keeps getting faster because the ways they have to counter the old units have to be so overboard in order to do so because effects are just so over the top now. When fedelgard came out at least it was merely that the set of counters for her rolled out over the course of the next half year or so, but now we see shit that hard counters the literal last banner basically every month. I don't know how much longer they can keep this shit up before it all just kind of collapses because units just won't be killable or won't not be able to kill things or whatever.
The game has been like this for awhile. Unfortunately I don't really see an end in sight because the whales just keep buying the latest Duo and Legendary every month. Character popularity seems wholely irrelevant. Severa, Lucina, every single 3H MC and Legendary Camilla all in the same month? Yeah that's worth 5 million in sales rather than 4 million last month which had Nino, Sanaki and Book 7 OCs. Should be double the sales if character choice mattered but it barely moves the dial. Whales will just buy anything and they're 90+% of the sales.
I don't know what would get these people to stop because they've been consistently carrying the game month after month for years now.

I agree. The other board would say x flopped bigly and y mega sold based on a daily ranking which isn't remotely reliable. I think the game doing 3-5 million each month is far more reasonable, which is what the mobile monthly sales charts say. But sure, only IS has the numbers and we'll never know the truth.

Nino, Ephraim, Ninian, and Lucina were all I had and they did great
I remember Lucina was kind of the makeshift healer since endurance was key, and she could heal HP at the start of each map which she can then share with the others through Reciprocal Aid

Linde stacked Aura wirh Breath of Life inherit and BoL1 seal as my Healer and MVP.
I remember the progress being palpable as there were no SP multipliers so the SP needed to learn skills was obtained directly through the event.
I gave up after getting a 4* lucina because grinding 100k was too much of a pain.

What bothers me the most is that Olwen is one of the most developed secondary characters in the series and Reinhardt's character can be summarized in three phrases: strong soldier, Olwen's brother and Ishtar's simp. And yet, because he's a meme, he has twice the playable versions as Olwen, who hasn't gotten anything at all since 2018. Even if I'm biased towards Olwen, there are a lot of characters that deserve something way more than tinyhands, like Finn, Eyvel, Saias, Asbel and even fricking Miranda. It's almost as if the devs haven't played FE5 and just look at a wiki when choosing what to put in Thracia banners. Also, you have to strike a balance with "THEY DESERVE IT" characters, which they haven't been able to do with Thracia at all

A first blind playthrough of fe5 is a miserable experience because the game likes to frick with you whenever it has a chance, but once you see everything coming and understand how powerful some tools are, it becomes one of the funnest experiences in the series

The Legendary and Duo BST boost is insanely high nowadays
Duo's don't actually score much higher then grail projects nowadays, they just make the game mode easier, the legendary blessings do most of the heavy lifting.
I feel that duos allow you to ignore movement type BST which affects team make up if you want to score high. Example being that you normally can't slot a Cavalry or flier unit into your arena team unless they are a bonus unit if you want to score well. Added bonus though is getting a useful Duo unit with a duo skill who can help beat the powercreep.

C is pretty flexible, but Soaring Guidance is amazing
RS can pop off even if your foe has Guard (but not Tempo), but she can always get a good Bonfire proc because of her chunky defense. Tome fliers don't really have great special options.
Flared Sparrow's guaranteed damage and laying down a Vein is awesome. Remote Sparrow's 30% DR is also awesome. (I have Flared Mirror on her from skill duplication from Attuned Peony, but she needs the speed more than anything).
Far Trace 4 is awesome, -4 Res and +7 damage AND a minimum of 1 Canto is as free as it gets (I've got Escape Route 4 on for easy warping plus it was basically a free inherit from Sonya).
Duo Seithr counts as a 205 BST unit, so if you max her out she scores 766. Fargus maxed out is 764 (assuming you have no other Melee with the DC Seal), so by god, you're right. F!Kana is 762 with DC Seal.

This is the build I used for Summoner Duels. Her pre battle damage + AoE is usually enough to get Winter Byleth down to 1-5 health and then she deals enough single digit damage to kill him. Most people surrender when their Byleth dies.
She gets the other 2 CD down from being Ally Supported with Velouria. In my ideal world, I'd give her Occultist's Strike from Gullveig, so I hope we get a free Gullveig from AHR. I gave her Fleeting Echo like a monstrous moron

I'm not THAT autistic. When SD first launched, I used a team of New Years, Summer, Spring, Brave, and Bath. When Ascended Fjorm came out, I subbed in Adrift with TA3 sometimes because she'd be able to kill her through Hardy Fighter.
Eventually Book 3 and Prior became a desolate wasteland and I had to keep up with the meta, so I went to Unrestricted and swapped out Spring Cam for Pirate Hinoka. Destroyed a lot Yuri teams because Hinoka's Duo Button boosting my move and inflicting Gravity on Yurinerds would get me surprise kills.
Once Ninjacam came out, I ran Brave Cam, Ninjacam, Pirate Hinoka, Legendary Ninian, and Legendary Eliwood (with all 4 non Eliwood units matching attack).
My current SD team is Legendary Cam, Ninja Cam, Legendary Hinoka, Hatari Azura, and Velouria. Vel is a dead slot apart from allowing Legendary to murk Winter Byleth, but the rest is pretty obvious. At least it's still a Fates theme team, r-right?
You can merge formas. I updated her build and got more skills for her.
Same. You can tell IS regrets making them limited to one per unique Ascended Hero since they just don't run them anymore. Honestly, I'd rather Ascended units disappear from the Summoning Pool but give you a Floret every time you get one... But also I'd rather Rearmed and Attuned stay in the main summoning pool, too.

I couldn't do this shit 2700 times, let alone for the older Camilla who don't hold up against current threats while Book 3 and Prior has basically no one playing it.

I think one of the forging bonds mentioned that Askr has a lot of issues with bandits because the remaining gates to other worlds allow all sorts of people to come in. It's not mentioned If they have guards stationed around them.
I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a FEH OC that was a bandit leader stirring up discourse against the royals. Because from their point of view they could blame the royals for Askr always being in conflict resulting in them taking up banditry. But I guess IS wants us to focus on killing the entire Norse Patheon.

The default Rarity. It sorts by red, blue, green, colorless and then move type, and all the 3* and 4* shitters that haven't been booked yet are at the bottom so I never actually need to see them.
I sort by Rarity -> Level -> Type
My favourites up top, the Heroes I use in any game mode
Followed by refreshers, Arena scorebots, Legendaries, Mythics, and then the rest
Rarity for basic sort and Rarity + Level for advanced, it just helps dropping the handful of 3/4* units I still have to the very bottom. And pic related is how I sort favorites.

Everyone has an ideal vision of what society should be like. But Ike isn't going to go around pushing his ideals and Soren has no reason or motivation to do so on his behalf. That's the issue. Soren's not going to waste his energy doing that shit when he doesn't even like interacting with filthy subhumans... or most people in general. He's a branded where his mark is in a very conspicuous spot and received a lot of scorn for it. Which makes that line even more out of character.
Everything Soren does is for Ike's sake, even if it's against what Soren himself cares about. Ike wants people to get along with Laguz. Soren ends up playing nice with Skrimir, and Skrimir ends up growing for it (instead of being a hulking gorilla that rushes into combat, he starts to appreciate Beorc tactics). I think you're issue is that you're imagining Soren and Ike transforming the world in grand ways, versus the tiny wins they get along the way; to have Crimeans correct themselves from saying sub-human to Laguz is enough of a win.
Thunder is good on horses, not much else. Infantry, Armor, and Fliers can easily outsource NFU and CD Accel by other skills or move type support. The Thunder Lull allows the Cav to run Far Trace, Desp 4, or Brash Assault 4.
As a follow up to Thrima (Lucina's Axe), it's a letdown considering Thrima got an additional effect on it compared to Downfall and other Arcanes.

Again, Ike has his own culture with the Greil Mercenaries that he extends to everyone else in his command. He wasn't someone who actively had an agenda to push on other people. That's what it means to "enact a vision upon the world" which isn't Ike. I agree that Ike is influential and well respected that his subordinates adapted his ideals, but it was relegated strictly within his army. They serve different purposes, Thunder is better for high Spd units that don't rely on guaranteed FU effects while Euphoria is for high Atk units who aim to nuke on one round, and is better suited for lower Spd units. Ironically, vanilla Reinhardt prefers Euphoria.
Usually the first Arcane weapon is for general purpose (often with a guaranteed follow-up attack and a few other effects) so that any such unit can put it to good use, the second is for speedier units (with NFU built in with other stuff)

This also works for attuned units. Only thing to note is that you can't duplicate echo skills.

Every merge will restore the ability to fodder them after you have foddered them. Do not merge Rrarmed/Attuned units unless you inherit from them first.
It should as long as you didn't mistakenly merge all the heroes prior to inheritance. So you need to follow the same steps but insert every instance of rearmed as attuned instead. They work the exact same.

I know I can clear any abyssal map by deploying whatever the hot new cancer is without foddering anything. Like, currently you just gotta pull Byleth or Edelgard and you're good to go for a couple months. But I'd rather use characters I care about even if they are doomed to be less than optimal compared to whatever I fodder into them.

What are the criteria of a true solo?
No units other than the soloer entering combat or possessing skills that debuff enemies or using assist skills on the soloer.
I don't know how people feel about using your 3 deadweight units to manipulate the AI to move certain ways to the soloer's benefit, though. For example I was having trouble "true soloing" Askr's map with Mia, so I had my deadweights have him move left instead of down which gave me an extra turn to kill off fodder before having to deal with him which allowed my Mia to solo the map.

Only the solo unit can enter combat, but they can't use skills like wings of mercy or aerobatics to teleport near the "filler" units and they can't use skills that grant bonuses through allies like Oath or Unity.
Filler units can repo/guidance each other but they mustn't help the main unit nor can they support it with drives/tactics/ploys/rally/dance/etc. and they can't soak enemy chills. Using them to manipulate the enemies' AI is allowed.

there's barely over 1000 individual heroes in the game, and 90% of them are outdated, GHB/TT, and/or have useless fodder, so if you do want to hold onto those instead of turning them into combat manuals, the reserves save you a lot of orbs that don't need to be spent on upgrading the main barracks

There's an edit of one of the "tips" from the loading menu someone made years ago that's like "Armors are like Infantry units but with superior Strength, Speed, Defense, and Resistance". On the other hand, I feel like generic armors are in a shitty position right now and aren't really a threat.

Yeah same, like whenever I get a Resplendent Hero that I have not built up, nor do I care to build up, nor do they have anything for fodder (which is pretty much all the time), they just kinda get tucked away into one of the Reserves that I like to call the Art Gallery, because at least the art is nice (usually, anyway)

Armor units, especially in FEH, have been in a spot where if they aren't broken they aren't used. Nobody likes using a low movement class, and it's harder to use when Cavs and fliers can canto away.

Same, but from my experience in early FEH, people hated bringing armors because lugging them around became another issue to tackle and people didn't enjoy it.
In Engage, armor knights and Generals had a niche in that they were immune to Break, which was basically the "counter denial" status which you'd be able to inflict if you had WTA. I think, it's been a bit.
I want to say maybe that every armor unit should just have that as a built in property, like they alone would be immune to counter denial, ensuring that they can do their job of tanking hits and dishing them back out. Have that be their innate ability.
The problem with that though, is that it means stuff like Ninja Zelgius and Mega Edelgard can take advantage of that too. I'm just not sure how else to buff up generic, prflet armored units that don't also just buff up the super armored units. There's Arcane weapons, but now those are just for speedy units and armors come with all sorts of weapons, even if some are rarer.
attuned skills can't be used alongside passive prfs, so that neuters them and balances things a bit
X Skills have potential, they can make them more niche and specialized than arcane weapons, but I'm worried they aren't going to capitalize on it. Like the Atk Oath was cool and the idea of using parts of a tier 4 skill is interesting

First step:
BST: The higher your base stat total, the higher your score. The duel skills modify this so that a unit's BST counts as being higher (though those skills are now completely worthless due to BST creep) and having a legendary on the same team with an matching blessing on your unit also raises BST to the level indicated on the legendary unit. Additionally, dual units have a special status that raises their BST to the indicated amount. This only counts in steps of 5, in some cases a unit might be able to go up to the next BST bin with the right IV boon.
Second step: Merges. I guess this is kind of an extension of BST, but your unit scores more if it is merged up.
Third Step: Value of equipped skills. A skill counts for more arena scoring if it costs more SP to learn. For this reason, units score best if they have a prf, a dual rally (or prf assist skill), a special like aether, galeforce, vital astra, etc, that have higher costs score better than something like moonbow. This even counts for the seal slot, where the DC seals are currently the best scoring skills.

Actually, each blessed unit gets +8 points per same-blessed Legendary Hero. Fjorm boosts a unit's score as much as Legendary Camilla does.
For optimal scoring, you need two legendaries and two blessed units; the two blessed units get +16 each for a total of +32 instead of one legendary and three blessed units which is +24

Either way that only has to be relevant for highest tier shit. I'm able to stay in the 20-21 range pretty easily without having to do that shit.
You can even stay in T21 just fine with a single highly merged legendary, the only thing that can stop you is the bonus unit. If the only thing you have at the moment is an Askr shitter, no amount of legendaries will fix that deadweight

There's probably a generic arcane sword build for her, or you could use her PRF because it has effectiveness against horses/Armors, or even try to take advantage of her res. The issue with the latter is that everyone tends to one shot everyone unless youre the latest tank.

A skill could be anything from a flared sparrow skill to atk/spd unity to whatever melee fliers run. If you're running Gambit then you might want a longer CD special. A/S rein Snap could be swapped out for a more supportive skill, or something like Menace if you just want to try to get big numbers.
Not the best with fliers, so a second opinion might be worth it.

I got Edelgard for Askr in 32 summons so I said screw it and summoned for the full 40 but I’ve been thinking about it for days now but I still don’t know who to choose because I don’t have anyone who can really make good use of any skills they have. Anyone have any suggestions on who to pick.

How's that even possible? Like, even if you have no use for the rest of their kits, Edel's and Dimi's specials are just straight upgrades for whichever of your units would resort to bonfire and draconic aura otherwise. Hard to imagine you wouldn't have use for Yunaka's flared sparrow and/or assassin's strike fodder either.
Perhaps Anon builds dragons/beasts/ staves units that can't use any/most of their skills. That was the case for me but I wasn't planning on foddering them since they're seasonals.

You don't fodder seasonals? Why not?
It is a combination of reasons. I either like the character, I know the fodder will usually be put on a non seasonal later (not always), or the unit is too good to simply kill them for the fodder and the units you do give it to won't compare to the unit you got it from (ex: Edelgard and assault troop). So I rarely kill off seasonals unless they don't fit into my criteria. Don't get me wrong I do kill seasonals just rarely since the units I want the skills off of usually happen to be the units I don't want to kill.
The amount of units that I actually have invested in is around 10 units max and I don't think any of them would work well with the new skills/ be worth it to give them the new skills. Like Edelgard's skills I already gave Mythic Askr Atk/Def prime and among the rest of the units I use those that use bonfire aren't armored so they cant use armored blaze. Picnic Felicia is the only armored unit I've invested in but she uses Aether, Armored Floe, or Glacies but I will admit she could use the ploy skill , As for Byleth I thought about Weaving Fighter for Picnic Felicia but her weapon doesn't neutralize effects that prevent her follow up attacks so I don't think that will work well for her. As for Dmitri's fodder No Quarter I don't have any units that use Dragon Gaze/Aura and now one I have no one who can make good use of Atk/Spd Prime. Yunaka's fodder could work for regular Felicia can use both but I don't know if it's worth it because she's a gen 1 unit.

What's your definition of "worth it"? If you really like Felicia, then giving her Yunaka's kit is probably just about the best way to make her viable at all in the current meta. Needless to say that no year 1 unit will ever be as good as the newest arrivals and a roided out Felicia will still be inferior to a basic +0 Yunaka, but that's the price you pay for using your favorites.

I gave mine Atk/Spd menace as she had a mroe atk/spd focused build. If you have nothing else, then Rouse atk/res 3 should be fine, but there are likely better options depending on how you have decided to build her.

Dual Ploys are insanely useful to have on any high Res unit. Not only will the affected enemies take +10 damage, but also it neuters Legendary Robin and V!Chrom's Duo skill.

Flared Sparrow and Assassin's Strike are STUPID good and always helpful. Fatal Smoke 4 neutralizes a small few amount of units, but the units that rely on innate Miracle or F!Maria as support are pretty much screwed
If you were interested in keeping and using any of the units, I'd say
Byleth > Yunaka > Dimitri > Edelgard

Don't sleep on Edelgard. She's like the best galeforcer in the game right now and she likely will be for a while.
Byleth will fold to the next nuke they release, and Yunaka will just be powercrept by said nuke.
Edelgard has such a weak enemy phase presence since she only has the Armored Blaze DR for melee. I played a lot of Summoner Duels recently and she was always a liability for the enemy because I could kill her with any of my three nukes (Legendary Camilla, Ninja Camilla, or Legendary Hinoka).
I've no doubt she's good in AR maps that don't have anti-warp in them.
I have no plans on keeping any of them I'm looking at them purely as fodder. In a nutshell my most heavily invested units are both Askrs and Felicia's, Gerik, Flametribe Mordecai, Summer Mercedes. I have bad choice paralysis because I don't want make a sub optimal choice.
This is me going over my thoughts on my units and the skills
Gerik as a combat unit would love No Quarter since his Prf doesn't Pierce DR and neither do Arcanes. Unless you have Physical NFU on him already, it'd be a good kit upgrade.
Summercedes would get good use out of Flared Sparrow and if you were able to grab Fatal Smoke 4, you may as well.
As you said, Felicia would benefit immensely from the Dual Ploy.
In my opinion: Ploy for Felicia if she is not a Save unit > Flared for Mercedes > No Quarter for Gerik > Ploy for Felicia if she's a Save unit
Thank you for your advice I decided to go with Yunaka for regular Felicia or Summer Mercedes mainly because after far too much time taking everything into consideration those two need an upgrade the most. And I thought depending on how well saving for Mythic Askr’s return in May goes I could try for the other units when they appear on a DSH banner.
What I meant by that was if the new skills would have been a decent enough improvement for the unit overall compared to what they previously had.

Trying to enemy phase these days pretty much just requires you to keep the battle simulator up to check. Otherwise you pretty much just have to assume that you can't tank them.
Ivy's also got pretty high Res though
But yeah, if you have no DR you are just going to die, and the weapon triangle is completely meaningless

Funnily enough, L!Camilla would be a great teammate to help patch that up. Ploy 4 skills would also help a lot thanks to Exposure.

distant a/s solo was basically better from the start, unless you're so committed to babysitting your tank that you always have someone adjacent or multiple named buffs at all times.
but whatever your stance, nowadays prime users can get their buffs stolen or negated. that's really hard to ignore when your only benefit is 8 stat points

Pretty much. Sometimes Gambit is the only method of damage reduction a unit can get, and it also helps with damage output. Shez puts it to fantastic use especially since the true damage from his weapon and Gambit stacks.

Arion REALLY wants Guard Bearing 4 (since it's dual phase), but 3 is good enough. Maybe you can upgrade some time in the future.

You can't even have them be backpacks in duos because in Askr you could just have the lord. Having Celine duo with Emblem Celica instead of normal celica would just be lame. Doubling up with something like Sigurd/Sigurd might be funny, but I can't see them doing it more than once.
To be honest if emblem rings or mechanic similar to it was added I could see it working as a stat boost and maybe a permanent pair-up you could use in AR and arena. If not a pair up maybe a weakened duo/Harmonic ability that is inheritable and effects change depending on unit you paired with.

It kind of depends on the situation. Is there a premium skill that you want to use 3 times? If so, it is gonna be more efficient than to roll 2 more copies of that skill.
maybe guidance 4 and wings of mercy 4? i heard fliers are pretty good for galeforcing because of those skills
