He's not a villain, more like a rival that you can convince to join you. Jeralt's mercs wipe out Shez's merc group near the start of the game, and it motivates Shez to become stronger than Byleth and beat them, but the story also makes clear that Shez knows they're both mercs and at the end of the day they were both just doing their jobs. I only played AG but in that route Shez can tell Arval that his goal started out as beating Byleth but now his mail goal is to help Faerghus end the war.
Sothis is more vengeful/angry in this game due to having more of her memories back and sometimes forcefully takes control of Byleth to fight Shez.

Base camp in Hopes is a massive improvement over the monestary. You can quick jump everywhere, the camp is much smaller, and the shitty time-waster activities like fishing and gardening have been purged. I like getting to talk to allies between battles for the character/world-building, so I'm very happy about Hopes base camp.
You forgot how the camp is a lovely circle shape so you can easily just spin through the outer ring talking to everyone and doing your pre-mission shopping, training and eating, and then hop into the middle for the rest which is, conveniently, right where the mission select is waiting for you. Compare it with the monastery which is a moronic rollercoaster ride of different lanes, multiple floors, disguised loading screens, and dumb shit like the second floor dorm and Rhea's floor only having a single character in them every three months or so, or how you can't fast travel to the common room, or how you have to loop all the way back up the path past the greenhouse just to talk to Bernie on non-CF routes.

i've thought the same thing except for anna and iceblade, but at least she's female. nobody likes cyril at all so crush is the only thing you could conceivably get for your money.
A lot of the characters playable in Three Houses who didn't make the cut in Three Hopes could conceivably give you another chance at getting certain Combat Arts that are unteachable, teachable, so the odds are extremely good that they will end up as DLC playables.
Then there are the possible three leftover slots which could go to other characters who debuted here. In particular, a Dark Knight and a War Master DLC character could conceivably cover the rest of the unteachable Combat Arts.

You get a tutorial the first time you get a combat art to level 3. The weird thing is that the game gives you the innate ability tutorial after you successfully teach a combat art to another unit.

Also, can you teach abilities in record battles? Kind of want to give literally every mage Thoron but I'm on NG+ and only Dorothea can teach it, and I don't have her right now..
I'm the type who had to get every item spawn, so I had to check the monastary grounds between every mission. When I got a Lost Item I had to check every character if it was there's. I had to Fish as much as possible becuase it effected the main gameplay, and I had to read every support log for the same reason. When I got 5 support logs at once and didn't feel like listening to them, but also didnt want to lose out on the bonuses in-battle I quit. That isn't specific to the monastary, but it was atop 50% of my game time not playing the game I wanted to.
Path Of Radiance is my favorite game, but having played Three Houses, it REALLY suffers from a lack of "overworld hub" like the monastery for you to travel around as do a lot of the earlier titles.
It's nice that you can actually grind when you want via side missions and see the other characters about (and they aren't just ignored like 95% of PoR chars). Whilst Three houses isn't perfect, it's got a lot of steps in the right direction.
Agreed, I think Radiant Dawn would particularly be improved with base camps because of the way it shifts cast constantly and a lot of characters end up shafted, especially with the lack of supports. It would also be cool to see how the different factions are holding up, ie the Dawn Brigade are in shitty condition while the Greil Mercenaries would have a much better camp set up, and the Royal Knights would have some more lavish setups since Elincia is with them
I liked it for the first playthrough and it was a chore for every subsequent playthrough. The only good thing about it was the dialogue between chapters, but you had to run through that huge ugly map for way too long to reach each character to talk to. It's impossible to keep liking it when it's obvious how easily and extensively it could have been improved.
If the next game has a monestary/camp/"adventure field" feature, it had better keep the Hopes QOL and it should get a huge visual upgrade. Characters should be seen doing things other than just standing in different location. Different months/seasons should have different foliage textures, weather effects, and skyboxes to reflect the passage of time and keep the scenery from becoming completely stale.
I started playing Lorenz as a mage and he's surprisingly outstanding in the role, his passive is really useful in trading hits to get to your later heavy attacks. I might actually convert him to become my tome user.

Honestly, I don't remember a lot about the Alliance lore and why Claude is the leader of the alliance in the first place, but I can buy him being the figurehead "Leader" when he's at the mercy of all the old native lords. It seems insanely contrived that the Alliance would willingly become exactly what it was designed to not be and appoint Claude of all people to be King, without a massive civil war.
The dude just fended off an Imperial and Almyran invasion, I think that helped a bit. Not to mention Lorenz and Hilda/Holst have seats in the council and their territories respect their rule.
Claude became the leader of the alliance because he's the grandson of Riegan, the house with the most influence.
Dimitri is a massive beta. The Boar on the other hand has the guts to ask out Catherine.
Was pretty funny if you wait till after the time skip to get his B support with Sylvain and you get to watch Boar Dimitri hiding in his friends room from the woman who is trying to rape him because he is too good at flirting.

Are Lorenz's supports unique in Scarlet Blaze? He doesn't support anyone that's exclusive to this route.

I was like in Chapter 10 and I still couldn't view the damm thing. It made think it was story related and that Gustave was going to die, but then I got Sylvains's support with Annette and it all made sense

How is the weapons system in this game? Are there different game modes? I was thinking in reference to Hyrule warriors which for me is the standard of musou games right now in terms of content and variety
It's kind of a different style of game. There's no post game or adventure type mode of any kind, it's just a straight shot through the story and you unlock new features and upgrades as you go. The bite sized adventure mode style maps are now optional side missions that gain you extra resources, or weapons, and in one case a secret class. There's plenty of stuff to do across the three routes, just don't expect to be spending hundreds of hours powering up your characters and farming the perfect weapon.
Really wish they'd go into more depth about the cabal of centuries old cardinals and knights that Rhea has accumulated. If the writers are so insistent that Church bad but Rhea good, then go into the other leaders of the Church. Instead we just got one simp acting on his own

yes. you usualy get a passive ability that you can use with any class. sometime you also gt a combat art, but those can only be used while you're still in that class. Luckily those classes are end game worthy (sniper, grappler. trickster)

Is three houses/hopes worth playing? I really enjoyed sacred stones but touching fates made me turn inside out. I quite enjoyed some older musou games but haven't touched one since PS2 era.

If anything, we know that five of the eight potential DLC slots are taken up by Hanneman, Cyril, Gustave/Gilbert, Alois, and Anna. There are three mystery slots left for others.
That's actually a relative of his. Hanneman specifically renounced his nobility in order to become the leading scholar within Crestology.
Of those three there could be two for Indech and Macuil (human forms)if they want to go for Church/neutral related characters like the other 5.
The fact that there are three of them means it's more likely that they come from each of the three main factions. So one each of the Empire, the Kingdom, and the Alliance.
That said, one of them could end up being from an independent faction since the five characters already hogging DLC slots makes the Kingdom-slash-Church hog the majority of the DLC spots. In that case, someone else, and probably a Free Mode only character, could easily take the Kingdom's spot among the three mystery slots.
I think they could, unlike Seteth and Flayn they didn't go to hide/regen just as Sothis died, they probably remained with Rhea for some time and maybe interacted with humans. At the very least it was never stated they can't, or at least I can't remember it from the paralogue or Deer campaign.

I think Count Gloucester has a chance of being our Alliance mystery member because he could be a Dark Knight, and thus give us one more chance at getting the Titanic Might Combat Art as a teachable Combat Art.
But we already have a Dark Knight in his son. Seems like a waste to make the DLC character be the exact same class as someone already in the base roster
And said son becomes the only one capable of teaching Vengeance to anyone as a result of Vengeance and Titanic Might being mutually exclusive Combat Arts in the Dark Knight class, and the only other plausible option specifically has a variant of Dark Knight that learns a spell in place of those arts instead. Thus, Count Gloucester becomes one of our few chances to make that art teachable.
In general, we are missing Iceblade, Magic Blade, Titanic Might, Armored Smasher, Crush, Bombard, and Whirlwind Kick, that can be learned from the Trickster, Dark Knight, Great Knight, Wyvern Rider, Brawler, or War Master classes. The playables from Three Houses who didn't get in at base in Three Hopes are capable of giving us a chance for all but Titanic Might, Bombard, and Whirlwind Kick, so the chance of getting those arts to be teachable is dependent on the three mystery slots. A character who gets Brawler > Grappler > War Master as their prf class line can cover 2/3, and a character who can get Dark Knight as one of their prf classes can cover the remaining one.
That leaves us with Seraphim as having no one suitable to teach it to anyone.
Yeah, Edel route. I played her route first in Three Houses, after that church and Claude which kinda was a waste of time since Edel is right. I won't make the same mistake here.
They're Persians, with wyverns and horse archers, kind of steppe nomads. They're more technologically advanced than Fodlan too, at least with their ships. We're told they invade Fodlan for fun

All they can be able to see from this distance is Shez's back, cape, legs and ass, and with how far away they stand not all dishes will be able to be smelled, especially since Shez never truly fricks it up. At worst he comments "the taste is not really there", and he might instead say "solid, solid", or "damn that's some good shit, it will taste as good as Arval's feet"

If Hopes was good for anything it was showing that Fodlan would have progressed even if the Empire inadvertently blew itself up and never got the war. If anything she held back progressive reforms as she ironically ended up inadvertently attracting those who wish to keep the status quo.
It's not about female leaders. Elincia was a badass and a great queen. It's about the that Edelgard is just too egotistical and dishonest. She honestly reminds me of Arvis at the end of part 1 of Genealogy of the Holy War but unlike Arvis her lies never catch up with her.
She saved the world and conquered the hearts of millions. I love my canon wife! Sometimes I wish she wasn’t the most popular character in the series so I could have her all to myself…

Because of your mistake, you're going to have to end on Crimson Flower, the absolute worst route in the entire game. Hard is balanced around your first playthrough. Maddening is balanced around NG+. Hard enemies start out at level 16 on the first chapter where enemies are scaled. Maddening enemies on the same chapter are level 106.

Beating Byleth is Shez's motivation throughout the game except if you make peace with him
at a specific point in the story. Then he and Jeralt join you. Otherwise he goes full Sothis and you have to put him down.
Byleth is just a merc in this game, he has no attachment to anyone in the three houses.
He's not a villain, more like a rival that you can convince to join you. Jeralt's mercs wipe out Shez's merc group near the start of the game, and it motivates Shez to become stronger than Byleth and beat them, but the story also makes clear that Shez knows they're both mercs and at the end of the day they were both just doing their jobs. I only played AG but in that route Shez can tell Arval that his goal started out as beating Byleth but now his mail goal is to help Faerghus end the war.
Sothis is more vengeful/angry in this game due to having more of her memories back and sometimes forcefully takes control of Byleth to fight Shez.

I got burned out by monastary shit I'm never buying another FE unless I can play it like a classic mission to mission format.
I'm making a 3H romhack that is exactly that. For personal use
Base camp in Hopes is a massive improvement over the monestary. You can quick jump everywhere, the camp is much smaller, and the shitty time-waster activities like fishing and gardening have been purged. I like getting to talk to allies between battles for the character/world-building, so I'm very happy about Hopes base camp.
Sounds comfy-er for sure.

You forgot how the camp is a lovely circle shape so you can easily just spin through the outer ring talking to everyone and doing your pre-mission shopping, training and eating, and then hop into the middle for the rest which is, conveniently, right where the mission select is waiting for you. Compare it with the monastery which is a moronic rollercoaster ride of different lanes, multiple floors, disguised loading screens, and dumb shit like the second floor dorm and Rhea's floor only having a single character in them every three months or so, or how you can't fast travel to the common room, or how you have to loop all the way back up the path past the greenhouse just to talk to Bernie on non-CF routes.

A lot of the characters playable in Three Houses who didn't make the cut in Three Hopes could conceivably give you another chance at getting certain Combat Arts that are unteachable, teachable, so the odds are extremely good that they will end up as DLC playables.
Then there are the possible three leftover slots which could go to other characters who debuted here. In particular, a Dark Knight and a War Master DLC character could conceivably cover the rest of the unteachable Combat Arts.

Its never explained in game until it actually happens, some combat arts have three dots on them, if you have at least a C support with something and you put them as an adjutant then they can randomly learn the combat art, not sure about abilities but there's secret innate abilities that you get when a character is in a very specific class they would normally never be on

You get a tutorial the first time you get a combat art to level 3. The weird thing is that the game gives you the innate ability tutorial after you successfully teach a combat art to another unit.

I always thought it was funny to hear people just yell "NO." when you'd pass them by.
I'm the type who had to get every item spawn, so I had to check the monastary grounds between every mission. When I got a Lost Item I had to check every character if it was there's. I had to Fish as much as possible becuase it effected the main gameplay, and I had to read every support log for the same reason. When I got 5 support logs at once and didn't feel like listening to them, but also didnt want to lose out on the bonuses in-battle I quit. That isn't specific to the monastary, but it was atop 50% of my game time not playing the game I wanted to.

Path Of Radiance is my favorite game, but having played Three Houses, it REALLY suffers from a lack of "overworld hub" like the monastery for you to travel around as do a lot of the earlier titles.
It's nice that you can actually grind when you want via side missions and see the other characters about (and they aren't just ignored like 95% of PoR chars). Whilst Three houses isn't perfect, it's got a lot of steps in the right direction.
Agreed, I think Radiant Dawn would particularly be improved with base camps because of the way it shifts cast constantly and a lot of characters end up shafted, especially with the lack of supports. It would also be cool to see how the different factions are holding up, ie the Dawn Brigade are in shitty condition while the Greil Mercenaries would have a much better camp set up, and the Royal Knights would have some more lavish setups since Elincia is with them
I liked it for the first playthrough and it was a chore for every subsequent playthrough. The only good thing about it was the dialogue between chapters, but you had to run through that huge ugly map for way too long to reach each character to talk to. It's impossible to keep liking it when it's obvious how easily and extensively it could have been improved.
If the next game has a monestary/camp/"adventure field" feature, it had better keep the Hopes QOL and it should get a huge visual upgrade. Characters should be seen doing things other than just standing in different location. Different months/seasons should have different foliage textures, weather effects, and skyboxes to reflect the passage of time and keep the scenery from becoming completely stale.
I started playing Lorenz as a mage and he's surprisingly outstanding in the role, his passive is really useful in trading hits to get to your later heavy attacks. I might actually convert him to become my tome user.

It seems insanely contrived that the Alliance would willingly become exactly what it was designed to not be and appoint Claude of all people to be King, without a massive civil war.
The dude just fended off an Imperial and Almyran invasion, I think that helped a bit. Not to mention Lorenz and Hilda/Holst have seats in the council and their territories respect their rule.
Claude became the leader of the alliance because he's the grandson of Riegan, the house with the most influence.

How is the weapons system in this game? Are there different game modes? I was thinking in reference to Hyrule warriors which for me is the standard of musou games right now in terms of content and variety
It's kind of a different style of game. There's no post game or adventure type mode of any kind, it's just a straight shot through the story and you unlock new features and upgrades as you go. The bite sized adventure mode style maps are now optional side missions that gain you extra resources, or weapons, and in one case a secret class. There's plenty of stuff to do across the three routes, just don't expect to be spending hundreds of hours powering up your characters and farming the perfect weapon.

That's actually a relative of his. Hanneman specifically renounced his nobility in order to become the leading scholar within Crestology.
The fact that there are three of them means it's more likely that they come from each of the three main factions. So one each of the Empire, the Kingdom, and the Alliance.
That said, one of them could end up being from an independent faction since the five characters already hogging DLC slots makes the Kingdom-slash-Church hog the majority of the DLC spots. In that case, someone else, and probably a Free Mode only character, could easily take the Kingdom's spot among the three mystery slots.
Of those three there could be two for Indech and Macuil (human forms)if they want to go for Church/neutral related characters like the other 5.

I think Count Gloucester has a chance of being our Alliance mystery member because he could be a Dark Knight, and thus give us one more chance at getting the Titanic Might Combat Art as a teachable Combat Art.
But we already have a Dark Knight in his son. Seems like a waste to make the DLC character be the exact same class as someone already in the base roster
And said son becomes the only one capable of teaching Vengeance to anyone as a result of Vengeance and Titanic Might being mutually exclusive Combat Arts in the Dark Knight class, and the only other plausible option specifically has a variant of Dark Knight that learns a spell in place of those arts instead. Thus, Count Gloucester becomes one of our few chances to make that art teachable.

In general, we are missing Iceblade, Magic Blade, Titanic Might, Armored Smasher, Crush, Bombard, and Whirlwind Kick, that can be learned from the Trickster, Dark Knight, Great Knight, Wyvern Rider, Brawler, or War Master classes. The playables from Three Houses who didn't get in at base in Three Hopes are capable of giving us a chance for all but Titanic Might, Bombard, and Whirlwind Kick, so the chance of getting those arts to be teachable is dependent on the three mystery slots. A character who gets Brawler > Grappler > War Master as their prf class line can cover 2/3, and a character who can get Dark Knight as one of their prf classes can cover the remaining one.
That leaves us with Seraphim as having no one suitable to teach it to anyone.

Hard is balanced around your first playthrough. Maddening is balanced around NG+. Hard enemies start out at level 16 on the first chapter where enemies are scaled. Maddening enemies on the same chapter are level 106.
