the gameplay during missions is extremely stuttery for me and the game crashes every time during the first cutscene with Cornelia on the Blue Lion route

Shez is the only member of the Deers that's properly trained. Everyone else just has the bare minimum or nothing at all.
I just played on Hard on the first half for NG+ while benching Shez. By the time you have enough officers at lvl 40 or higher, I switch to maddening. Which should happen during part 2. I generally only use Shez during the story missions while playing the game normally as the current faction. Any recruits that you find from your last playthrough will still have their levels and all of their skills though.

Dimitri said that it would cause problems is anything were to happen to the church, and in 3 Houses they straight up tell you that if Rhea being assassinated would cause a rebellion in the Kingdom. They would have no reason to think that Edelgard was lying, because Dimitri is the one who vouched for Claude.
Dimitri has reason to believe that he needs to uphold tradition over all else. The prime example being his father King Lambert. Because Lambert also wanted to bring radical change to the kingdom. And while he had his supporters, the other half of the Kingdom fricking hated him, called him a tyrannical radical, and conspired to get him killed. So Dimitri isn't talking out of his ass when he tells everyone that the Kingdom is slow to accept change.

A problem with this game is that you need to wait for the game to get through its dialogue queue before it progresses with missions. With recruiting characters the game will give you a blatant prompt after the characters finish talking about possibly recruiting whichever characters you selected in the strategies menu.
