I never had a windows 98 PC. I went straight from 95 to XP. The closest I got was running New York Race on my windows 95 computer even though the box listed windows 98 as its minimum requirements.
Yeah I loved the music and sounds so much. It was also "mission based", in that you'd have to do the objective the game was telling you, like shoot the ball in a particular place, and following through on all parts of a sequence would make you complete a mission and get a huge score.
I think my record was like 90 million and my friends were like HOW? I learned many years later that this was a pleb score though because someone on /vr/ showed me he had gotten 320 million.
My minesweeper scores were arright. 4 seconds beginner, don't remember intermediate, expert was 96 seconds.
Half Life WON, mostly the Absolute Redemption mod. And Wanted!.
My pirated copy of that game didn't had the SP maps
Yes, it was my first PC able to properly be able to play it
my first shooter ever. i never gamed much on windows 98 or 2000. i was 12, coming from n64. i'm glad i started on PC, if it werent for my friends dad having good gaming taste i would have turned into another Xbox 360 gay. the mods for bf1942 were incredible. my favorite was always eve of destruction, but it was abandoned with the release of battlefield vietnam and then desert combat eclipsed it before battlefield 2 came out. the nostalgia is deep, glad to see there are still some modders for this game

I can only try and make my own son have such amazing memories when he is that age.
A South Park boxing game that I thought my brother downloaded but now I'm pretty sure he actually made it himself, because I can't find any information about it online. I remember you fight Chef, I think Mr Hanky, and the Devil is the last boss.
I can't ask my brother because he died. If anyone has information about this game, please tell me
n_v1.4 for sure
Spent most of 8th grade playing it, think I unlocked 4 colors?
Still love N++ these days. Great successor. Went back to 1.4 last year and was horrified by how bad the input lag felt. Not sure if it was the flash player I was using, maybe running it through wine, or just not being used to it anymore.
Well I thought of Blood but that's not right because Blood was a DOS/Win '95/'98 game that was difficult to run on XP but I still successfully managed to do it following a guide I found on the internet.
The next game I thought of was Carmageddon but that's not right either as it's also a DOS game.
Then I thought of Operation Winback for god knows why, then Syphon Filter, then Pacman, then River Raid, then Mario 64, then WCW/nWo Revenge, then Brian Lara Cricket '96, I can keep going with this but you see how it is, random haha.
Carnivores 2 used to install from disc and then play without the disc on any computer you installed it on, so I would install it on my old relatives' computers growing up and play whenever I visited. They also had no internet/dial-up internet so playing online was not an option. And they all had this OS long after my other computers had switched.

Yeah, you can pirate the full version of the game. The one on XP was only 1 of many levels.
There's a linux flatpak for it so you can play it on your steam deck, and also a website. https://alula.github.io/SpaceCadetPinball/

app icons used to be so beautiful back then before the minimalism bs and mobile style taking over everything
Important: They're not apps, they're programs.
We called them apps even before smartphones were worth using. "Applications" always got shortened.
BUT: You're a homosexual if you say "folder."
>We called them apps even before smartphones

nice try revisionist Black persontroony
The last printing of the New Hacker's Dictionary (based on the jargon file) in 1991 had it.
why would i care what some neo-pagan spaz has on his personal website?
FAKE NEWS and bad source
it wasn't very common to call them that, especially on PC
On Windows 3.1, I had a group called "Apps," because at 640x480, it would be "Appl..." with the next group to the right.
ZOOMER YEAH
Us actual oldgays called them "progs".
Those app icons are ugly tho and look real outdated.
