>first pokemon he ever catches on his own is a pidgey
>uses it as his lead in every battle thereafter including 2 years later when he's even retired his starter
BASED subtle characterization. Do any of the other rivals have stuff like this? I know there's something about silver only evolving his golbat to crobat after he learns to treat his pokemon as friends rather than tools, but I don't know if there's any other subtle team storytelling gimmicks for starters after gen 2

N uses mons from the nearby routes I think
i wish they’d stuck with that for his final fight
they probably just wanted to give him rare pokemon but in hindsight, his team doesn't make sense. why did he revive the fossils? why vanilluxe? zoroark i kinda get cuz of the N = Zoroark theory but still
here's the team i would give him
>Braviary, Bouffalant, Zoroark, Durant, Heatmor, Reshiram/Zekrom
putting his dragon at the back of the party means zoroark will come out disguised as it. perhaps a bit of an underhanded tactic for N, but by the logic he shouldn't be using Zoroark at all. if you're going to have a pokemon that disguises as something else, you should go all in on fricking with the player.
ghetsis would need a new team member to compensate for N having bouffalant so let's go with, uh...scolipede. yeah that works.
Barry ends the game with a Heracross and Munchlax, implying he's learnt to be more patient as these pokemon are rarer encounters on honey routes.
How is that characterization?
it shows us he's the kind of person who would use a pokemon that represents a significant milestone to him over something with more battle viability obviously
It actually is pretty nice to show he has an attachment to his first catch, when he says he's assembled the strongest team most of his mons actually have some high bsts by gen 1s standards, but he still holds onto his first catch and starter
it'd work better if he ditched pidgey at any point
A lot of team bosses have Crobats, showing either how soft are manipulative they are.
Zubat is like the tier 1 generic evil team filler Pokemon, almost every team leader is running shit like Gyrardos or Crobat, it's not "subtle characterization", it's Gamefreak being lazy and giving the bad guys "evil" looking Pokemon.

Here's all the evil teams that run the Zubat line.
Here's all the evil leaders that run Golbat/Crobat.
>Cyrus
>Lysandre
>Archie
>Maxie
>Archer
Again, Zubat is the go to generic evil team filler monster, and Crobat is simply the final form of that, saying it says anything about the person using it is grasping for straws. Something like Ghestis' Hydreigon knowing Frustration is a more accurate example of GF using the Pokemon to flesh out the character, but something being a friendship evolution is very weak evidence of anything.
>crobat has no significance
moron
>A lot of team bosses have Crobats, showing either how soft are manipulative they are.
Headcanon.
>Zubat/Golbat/Crobat is a staple of both evil teams and evil team leaders
Fact.
What if the Crobat likes them and agrees with them? Have you considered that?
imo it just shows Pokemon are stupid and will have their friendship go up whether the trainer actually cares about them or not, in game, a Pokemon's friendship literally goes up just by walking with you and the only way for friendship to go down in any amount that matters is if you keep feeding them the bitter medicine they hate and are the worst trainer in the world by making them faint constantly.
That's why I think "le friendship evolution" is literally the worst metric to base character growth off of and yet people keep clinging to it and did it again with Volo's Togekiss, only for Masters to reveal he really and truly does not give a shit about his Pokemon.
Masters isnt canon
Prove it
Don't be moronic.
Two protagonists
Don't the protags talk in Masters?
No way Jose, the frick. Only Chad Red remains a mute, hasn't switch ip since '96, that's why he's the GOAT
>this pokemon that happens to be from an evil team cannot have this dual purpose of showing friendship
You might have an argument if Zubat wasn't the go to evil team shitmon even in genwun
I think you are braindead.
I think you're trying to force your headcanon and are mad there's counterpoints to it. There's no logic or consistency to Crobat showing up so much other than it's an easily splashable "evil" looking Pokemon. It shows up for the same reason evil teams in general lean toward dark and poison type Pokemon.
>mad
The irony of your idiocy.
Nice argument.
You lost.
cringe projecting head anon lovers

No, Crobat is a friendship evolution and shows those leaders care for their mon.
You are terminally moronic.
And I say Crobat says nothing because the Zubat line is the generic villain filler series, which it is, as shown by
, and no one has actually provided counterarguments for this, they just keep yelling about their headcanon that has no backing for it other than the fact that Crobat is on the team, not to mention the points brought up earlier in
where Pokemon have their friendshp raised with no real effort on the trainer's part.
Your argument is shaky and weak, you're free to believe your headcanon as I am free to tell you it's wrong.
Source
>you're free to believe your headcanon
Yeah, there's no way Cyrus gave a frick
>RR
these two are at their heart good people
What do you mean fricking source, have you not played any of those gens?
>NOOOOOO WHY DIDN'T YOU PLAY MY GOYSLOP GAMES FOR CHILDREN
that guy is based and you will never be a woman
I get that, but it's fun to think of it that way imo. Gyarados being a sign of how patient they are or the potential they see in it even, but the real readon is what you said.
>BASED subtle characterization.
No they just didn't want to change his team even more, he also loses his Pidgeot depending on the game so it's not even his real ace.
> when he's even retired his starter
No they just didn't want to commit to Blue having a canon starter because muh self inserting MC, instead giving Blue a fire/water/grass core to compensate. Acanine and Exeggcutor have a better track record than Pigeot, and those are only on his team because he's not allowed to have a canon starter.
All of Bianca’s team members have Return
This is pretty cute
Also how tf do you trigger this fight, never seen it
I think you have to sync your save with BW1 to do it
Ohhhh I see, thanks
similarly: Ghetsis's Hydreigon is the only pokemon in the game with frustration without it being a level-up move
>Oh boo hoo I'm not cut out to be a trainer!
>Btw my team is all over level 60
giovanni has a weakness for big fat fricking breasts which is why he has a son
>0 ground moves as the ground gym leader
>literally the only move that can hit Gengar is Rock Blast on Rhyhorn
Jesus christ, I forget how terrible enemy movesets are pre-gen 4
Kanga taking care of her baby reminds him of his own child and wife(?).
I'm not convinced either of Silver's parents raised him

Your rival in rse has the motivation and everything they need to leave the mainland but they lack the resolve to continue. Wally lacks the necessary Pokémon to make it off the mainland or to victory road but he makes it anyways because wally has the resolve to make it.
That one young couple with the cloyster and onyx
most of your rivals keep the same pokemon they first catch throughout the game, I always liked how Hop mixed it up by trying out a couple completely different teams before more or less settling on his original mons, or how N battles with the pokemon from the area he's in (until the end of BW)
>In Yellow, his Eevee starter's evolution will be different depending on your first 2 battles with him.
>If you beat him twice, he'll go with Jolteon. Learning how strong electric types are (like your Pikachu) and his ace also resists your ace.
>If you lose twice, he'll go with Vaporeon. Indicating how wienery he is, doesn't care if it's weak to your Pikachu. He doesn't value Electric types and just beat you twice
>If it's an even record, he has Flareon, showing a more middle of the road approach.
Based Blue
Love that
Agreed, and Lysandre and Cyrus are definitely manipulative charismatic men with large followings of grunts. It may be a reach but I think it makes some sense. Crobat being the mean poisonous bat and final form of Zubat gives it a double entendre
Almost word for word
AZ’s Pokémon all have Return, and have presumably been wandering the Earth with him for 3000 years…
I hope Return is still coded in ZA…
I like that Pokemon Adventures used Blue's Champion outfit from Gen 1, you don't ever see it again in any other games or media despite it being his coolest outfit.
That's a good catch. Adventures wins again.
I dress like this irl and use scizor because of him
I really do wish they'd commit to just giving Blue a definitive starter, or at the very least pick one based off what's strong against your starter to emulate him doing that in RB.
>i-if I say headcanon that'll mean my headcanon is right
My first catch was a Pidgey too.
For some reason I used to think the middle sprite was him wearing something that looks like a Duel Disk.
