>first proper Ace Combat in 15 years
>most technically advanced and fun to play
>11/10 kino soundtrack
>moronic, unfocused story about prisoner pilots, drones, and an anime princess
>uneven flight-banter cast, with kino moments being undercut by some guy who won't stop talking about food
>story moment kills all satellites so they decide to implement a miserable gameplay element where you need to ID targets before killing them for a few missions
When did legendary game franchise releases officially start getting disappointing across the board? Did it start with MGSV, and then spiral with the dawn of the diversity hire cancer-corporations and F2P AIDS raping zoomer brains from birth?

>Did it start with MGSV
I'm getting old.
FFXV might've actually been the official kick-off point, though anyone with some intelligence who saw Nomura's name attached knew it was gonna be a shit-show
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but RDR2 might be the only great AAA franchise release since 2014 that wasn't ass on some level although it was ass on some levels
Ace Combat was a discredited IP within Bandai, nobody thought it would sell. They had to rush the game and cut a lot of shit, which is the reason why some of the finer points you mentioned are lacking.
The game sold many times over the expectations so now they even got their own studio. Prospects are looking up for Ace Combat.
>suits at the top being moronic yet again
Every single time
>series floundered during the early X360/PS3 years with military shooters that included vehicles being favoured over a more focused arcade-esque experience that Ace Combat has
>try to go for that sort of audience with Assault Horizon, fail to meet targets
>GaaS multiplayer game and handheld/mobile titles are the only greenlit projects for a while
>an actual return to form big sequel in an era where copycats have long since exited the market and the niche is open, and oldgay fans ripe for nostalgia exploitation
It was simply the natural course of things. Ace Combat had to die first to be reborn again.
Yeah, it was very hit or miss, but I still think AC7 is fricking amazing.
And like you said, the soundtrack is pure kino.

everyone posts daredevil, but lighthouse was much more kino and soulful for me
felt like, for the first time, trigger had a theme-song, leash off, and all eyes on him from the get-go. that mission is beyond kino
>everyone posts daredevil
Yeah, well it was an incredible song and incredibly well sync'd with the mission and you play the entire thing out, so yeah of course. But I think the final song, Hush, is my personal favorite and grew on me over time. I couldn't appreciate it as much at first because I didn't actually hear the whole thing in the fight, but to me it's just a really incredibly emotive narration of a final human fight against AI apocalypse, a duel against an implacable foe with it all on the line.
But the game is so full of great music including what you picked that I think a lot of people just find it hard to pick from 10/10 music and daredevil is the obvious 11/10 that everyone heard all of. And the moment when the shield drops and it shifts to maximum gear is unforgettable. Doesn't mean Archange or Hush or Lighthouse or lots of others weren't excellent but that was just a moment of genuine kino.
I love the drums in Hush, the constant driving feel they give.
moron
Trigger's themesong is the main leit motif, which Daredevil, Battle for Farbanti, Faceless Soldier, Hush, Charge Assault and many more instances of it play whenever he shows off
>when the oil tank chain reaction pops
>hates long caster
NGMI
I've loved this series since the PS1 days. This entry, however, I could not finish. I'm trying to figure out why but what went wrong with this one? It's not a bad game but it's not excellent like the other entries.
for me it was the story. too much stupid bullshit sucked the soul out of the missions.
90% of the missions themselves were K I N O, though. The flight through the ravine into the base attack, the Sol Squadron fight, and missions 18 and 19 felt like what Ace Combat was originally made for
This was my first AC game, I liked it a lot. What do I play now? Project Wingman?
I've heard PW is the closest thing out there to a new AC game, but that it lacks the soul of one. Fun gameplay experience, but not jet-anime
how about you shut the frick up and actually play the game
I only play single player games on console, as hunching over a desk for anything but work is a life for bugs and morons, and won't buy an Xbox because there are no games and Microsoft is cancer.
>zoomies see planes and hear corny flight banter and immediately think the game is close to an AC experience
I bet you gays saw Rogue One and full onions mouthed
It's better than Ace Combat 7
>Larger battles
>Three weapons instead of two
>Main gun doesn't suck ass
>Aerial dodge moves can be used at higher speeds
>music can't hold a candle to AC
>story and direction feel like a fan-sub
better if you have autism and can't comprehend soul
>Fangame made by like 3 people
>Not as polished as a AAA dev
Who woulda thunk it?
>music can't hold a candle to AC
It does.
>story and direction feel like a fan-sub
So on par with AC7 then. The game that forgets about Mage Squadron... and then Spare Squadron...
>music can't hold a candle to AC
nah, it's kino
have a nice day dumb shitposter
>I haven't played the game but..
Congratulations you are now an official journo. You have received $0.000025 for this post.
Project Wingman is peak soul.
Alright, I'll see if I can emulate the older ones with my potato pc and take a look at PW after that
>but that it lacks the soul of one.
predictable.
older ones
Either PW or the PS2 games, /aceg/ over on /vg/ has a good emulation guide in their OP
Best song has logged in
MGSV is the best MG with the best story, graphics, gameplay, characters, level design and more.
t.didn’t play MGSV
Then play Project Wingman instead.
Worst was the gameplay.
I died a little inside playing it.
I don't give a single shit about the story but like 90% of missions in this game are frustrating as frick
That shit mission where you have to find all the trucks in the sandstorm nearly made me drop the game completely
that mission has singlehandedly stopped my Ace s-rank run dead in its tracks. it's a fun novelty when you're not racing against the clock though not one I would want to replay
Ace Combat was never good.
