Met an orochi on the way home today. I immediately took off my helmet and spit in his frickin' face. You can get GBed from a block easy. Plus there is unblockables. Dodge doesn't work anymore because they removed guard while dodging and hitboxes are huge and disjointed.
I dont understand why Tribute died. The maps they made for that mode were all fantastic, the objectives made you do something, and I just liked it a lot.
Dominion is barely different from it there were just no minions. I also find dominion too swingy for its own good if both teams are competent.

This list fricking sucks. Black prior, aramusha, and hitokiri should all be s tier. Conqueror and shaman in f tier is pants on head moronic. Conqueror should be a tier along with kyoshin. Jorm and raider should be raised up a tier. Probably kensei too. Implying jiang jun, ocelotl, valkyrie, zhanhu, tiandi, warmonger, shugoki aren't all insanely strong picks for dominion, which is what i assume "conquest" is. Seriously, what fricktard puts warden and cent that high and an s tier like aramusha that low. If you think this is a good list, you are bad, stupid, new to the game, or some combination of the three.
Those characters are all in s tier because dodge canceling recoveries allows them to avoid your punishes on their attacks. BP and aramusha are the same but they cancel into full guard instead of dodge. Both of them also have some of the best bashes in the game. If berserker is game breaking so is aramusha. The reason I think hitob***h should be that high is because her kick is ridiculously good (because it guarantees heavies no matter what and if she hits you she can go right back into it so you're in this homierdly maelstrom of bullshit orange feet) and she has variable timing heavies that absolutely shit damage and have pretty good hitboxes as of the most recent changes to the character. She also has a lot of health. I could see an argument for hitob***h being high a tier but the other two I think are justified. I stand by my other statements about that tier list. Honestly I think you could put varangian guard in s tier also because of her recovery cancels.

Ocelotols hunters stance is underrated since its extremely good in ganks but in one on one fights not so much. I have had bugs where I accidentally went into it but it worked like nobushis hidden stance

It's not underrated everyone knows its a ganking tool you're meant to use it to attack and pin somebody off their screen, the stance also having a built in dodge like nobushi's was also intentional.

Well I just got him to Rep 7 for the armor, but even back then leveling him made me drop the game for 2 years. Right now I got the hang of him but bros...I think I might cave and start playing Black Prior....
Black Prior is mostly played by absolute homosexuals and is easy as shit to stomp with. Besides his hero fest is later this month with a double XP fest so leveling him up will be a breeze.
This has always been my gripes with the knight faction. homosexual tier playerbase, most of the heroes are annoying to fight, and again the worse player base ever. Only Centurion and Gladiator are the only good ones and they arent knights they are romans.

Because BP is better. Medjay is a fairly good character but people overrate him. Black prior's shield flip is possibly the single best move in the game. It beats everything except guard break. Medjay locked on to your teammate and spamming side heavies? Just flip him. JJ doing the same with unlockables? Flip him. Orochi doing storm rush and you're too moronic to react? Flip him. He kicks instead? Flip him. Black prior will always be s tier. Especially with busted feats like the tier three that deletes revenge and the tier four that gives the entire team a massive amount of extra health. And the tier two that lets him heal in full guard. I am interested to play medjay once they rework him. On top of all this he has undodgeables, a unblockable with nice damage and a good hitbox, and multiple good bashes that lead to a 50/50. He can also cancel recovery into full guard making him even safer and stronger.
Flip is done in a read in a fullblock. Medjay's entire kit requires no reads at all.

Medjay's kit has no way to get in aside from a bash with negligible damage. All he has is damage and hitboxes. BP is an option select for everything in the game except guard break. If you play against a competent team as medjay one of them will probably be running a full guard or crushing counter character who ruins all your antigank because they can turn those huge hitboxes against you. The rest of black priors kit is also much stronger than medjay's. Things like his neutral bash and recovery cancel into flip or unblockable. It's not a crazy read to recovery cancel into full block and guess the guy isn't going to guard break.
I personally never liked them being stuck with knights. The lore back before they even expanded anything still made little sense even with current writing

Everyone has 500 ms opener lights. Most also have 500 chain lights with a few exceptions. You can no longer block while dodging. Most everything now is read based instead of reaction. A lot of characters got reworks.

Going for more guard breaks from neutral might help. You can catch them going into stance and their dodge attack is super vulnerable to guard breaks. They can't feint unblockable from stance.
Nobushi is not fun at least to me. Im just leveling her just to finally do it now after all these years but holy frick I cant carry worth a damn with her. When I was leveling pirate, medjay, and Jaguar I was pretty constantly topping the score boards and basically helping to win breach matches. Right now as nobushi I just cant do it thank god this double xp is making it faster.

Warmonger and gryphon are the issues for honor have gotten gameplay and lore wise literally frick them.
Warmonger's dodge attack is incredibly susceptible to guard breaks. The only way she's gonna beat them is if she's got enough frame advantage to side dodge into bash.
The highlander rework is good, they just need to fix the clunky bugs like not being able to parry sometimes right after leaving OS. Shinobi needs a complete dumpstering and rework. Warden needs a dodge attack. Make it undodgeable too.

they're the same in that they all have light attacks and heavy attacks
but there is a lot of diversity in those moves across characters
some characters have opening bashes
some have in chain grabs
some can use light attack openers to counter blockable attacks
some can soft feint a heavy attack into a light in another direction or a bash
some cannot be dodged
some can't blocked
some have great reach
others don't
there's quite a bit

I honestly think Warden is a bad starter now. The lack of a Dodge attack has become a bigger and bigger problem over the years as so many characters keep getting moves that punish lack of one. Such as every other character being able to chain on whiff.

The game is no longer fun unless it's duels anyway.
The most important thing to do is to pick 1 (ONE) character and stick with them until at least Rep 8. At Rep 8 you can easily get three perks on your armor which isn't make or break most times but any and every possible advantage is something you need to take in this game. Plus, if trying to get into the game this late, you're best off spending your playtime mastering one character and ignoring everything else. Playing as other characters is an excellent way to learn how to fight against them better, but IMO mastering your first main is more important.
Learn to parry. The most surefire way to shut a spammer down is by parrying them. You don't need to light parry everything, but being able to at least consistently parry dodge attacks after feinting a move is huge boon and often scares an opponent into not dodge attacking as much. Learn which characters can dodge attack from the opposite direction of where they dodged.
If you're really struggling in group fights, try Black Prior. His moveset is very simple and easy to pick up but there is still a ton of nuance to using it properly, his full-guard flip is capable of countering any attack in the entire game (including bashes, jump attacks, and multiple people hitting you at once), he has some of the best support feats in the entire game allowing you to revenge bug people constantly and negate the other teams revenge, and he has access to the best armor perks in the game (Last Stand, Vengeful Barrier, Bastion).
Alternatively, try Gryphon. Very good support feats, healthy amount of hyper armor, huge attack hitboxes for externals and he puts any opponent into an automatic 33/33/33 guessing game any time he lands a light. He's super easy.
Alternatively alternatively, try Hitokiri. He's a certified pugstomper with infinite heavy hyper armor chains and enough variable timing to make anyone cringe. Also has access to a feat that guarantee executions and a Tier 4 that one-shots people even at full health.

Against people who are experienced in ganking there is nothing you can do. They can do completely unavoidable setups and delete you with no chance for revenge. But those people are rather rare. I enjoy dominion for the chaos but if you're looking for an actual test of skill stick with brawl and duels.

final 10 hours, intense practise, first learning to combo and reliably pull of moves instead of mashing and fat fingering.
then it was learning basic mechanics like parry all over again and 50/50s
against noobs who don't have a basic combo down, with a feint guardbreak 'finish'
i dont truly regard, but for those i've mentioned, it feels like a character recognition and parry game (which on some level i don't appreciate, because of the sheer amount of memory associated with timings)

This event game mode is just a shining example of how bad the revenge system is. The game mode is literally 4v4 in a forced tiny arena designed for 1v1s. You are NEVER ganked by design of the fricking mode yet people can still force revenge by cheesing the system.

Bluing, which resulted in black armor did provide moderate corrosion resistance and was a relatively simple process that was known about in medieval times, but it wouldn't be perfect. Dominion is barely different from it there were just no minions. I also find dominion too swingy for its own good if both teams are competent.
Low rewards and deathballing killed the game. Abandoned game mode next with Breach, Skirmish and Elimination.
Breach is still high in players. I also like breach but it just needed more heal points

Those characters are all in s tier because dodge canceling recoveries allows them to avoid your punishes on their attacks. BP and aramusha are the same but they cancel into full guard instead of dodge. Both of them also have some of the best bashes in the game. If berserker is game breaking so is aramusha. The reason I think hitob***h should be that high is because her kick is ridiculously good (because it guarantees heavies no matter what and if she hits you she can go right back into it so you're in this homierdly maelstrom of bullshit orange feet) and she has variable timing heavies that absolutely shit damage and have pretty good hitboxes as of the most recent changes to the character. She also has a lot of health. I could see an argument for hitob***h being high a tier but the other two I think are justified. I stand by my other statements about that tier list. Honestly I think you could put varangian guard in s tier also because of her recovery cancels.

Because BP is better. Medjay is a fairly good character but people overrate him. Black prior's shield flip is possibly the single best move in the game. It beats everything except guard break. Medjay locked on to your teammate and spamming side heavies? Just flip him. JJ doing the same with unlockables? Flip him. Orochi doing storm rush and you're too moronic to react? Flip him. He kicks instead? Flip him. Black prior will always be s tier. Especially with busted feats like the tier three that deletes revenge and the tier four that gives the entire team a massive amount of extra health. And the tier two that lets him heal in full guard. I am interested to play medjay once they rework him. On top of all this he has undodgeables, a unblockable with nice damage and a good hitbox, and multiple good bashes that lead to a 50/50. He can also cancel recovery into full guard making him even safer and stronger.
Flip is done in a read in a fullblock. Medjay's entire kit requires no reads at all.
Medjay's kit has no way to get in aside from a bash with negligible damage. All he has is damage and hitboxes. BP is an option select for everything in the game except guard break. If you play against a competent team as medjay one of them will probably be running a full guard or crushing counter character who ruins all your antigank because they can turn those huge hitboxes against you. The rest of black priors kit is also much stronger than medjay's. Things like his neutral bash and recovery cancel into flip or unblockable. It's not a crazy read to recovery cancel into full block and guess the guy isn't going to guard break.

Everyone has 500 ms opener lights. Most also have 500 chain lights with a few exceptions. You can no longer block while dodging. Most everything now is read based instead of reaction. A lot of characters got reworks.

Going for more guard breaks from neutral might help. You can catch them going into stance and their dodge attack is super vulnerable to guard breaks. They can't feint unblockable from stance.
Nobushi is not fun at least to me. Im just leveling her just to finally do it now after all these years but holy frick I cant carry worth a damn with her. When I was leveling pirate, medjay, and Jaguar I was pretty constantly topping the score boards and basically helping to win breach matches. Warmonger's dodge attack is incredibly susceptible to guard breaks. The only way she's gonna beat them is if she's got enough frame advantage to side dodge into bash.

some cannot be dodged
some can't blocked
some have great reach
others don't
there's quite a bit
starting out I'd recommend the vanguard characters

kensei is the most unique of those three
as you move past learning the basics I would recommend the following characters for long-term engaging kits

I just hate the revenge system. If I'm dueling someone and some homosexual team mate comes up and heavies them once (that gets blocked) I am suddenly not allowed to attack them anymore for 5 seconds. Or the fact that it's even possible to get revenge in 2v2's or worse, 2v3 where the 3 gets revenge because of the moronic tag system.
Luckily the upcoming changes to hit-stun and damage resistance from getting ganked should make anti-ganking way more viable

Bots can be better than players sometimes.
But yeah nothing stops you from playing PvAI only, the rewards are almost the same.
There's a lot of people that play matchmaking AI.
The game is no longer fun unless it's duels anyway.
The most important thing to do is to pick 1 (ONE) character and stick with them until at least Rep 8. At Rep 8 you can easily get three perks on your armor which isn't make or break most times but any and every possible advantage is something you need to take in this game. Plus, if trying to get into the game this late, you're best off spending your playtime mastering one character and ignoring everything else. Playing as other characters is an excellent way to learn how to fight against them better, but IMO mastering your first main is more important.
Learn to parry. The most surefire way to shut a spammer down is by parrying them. You don't need to light parry everything, but being able to at least consistently parry dodge attacks after feinting a move is huge boon and often scares an opponent into not dodge attacking as much. Learn which characters can dodge attack from the opposite direction of where they dodged.
If you're really struggling in group fights, try Black Prior. His moveset is very simple and easy to pick up but there is still a ton of nuance to using it properly, his full-guard flip is capable of countering any attack in the entire game (including bashes, jump attacks, and multiple people hitting you at once), he has some of the best support feats in the entire game allowing you to revenge bug people constantly and negate the other teams revenge, and he has access to the best armor perks in the game (Last Stand, Vengeful Barrier, Bastion).
Alternatively, try Gryphon. Very good support feats, healthy amount of hyper armor, huge attack hitboxes for externals and he puts any opponent into an automatic 33/33/33 guessing game any time he lands a light. He's super easy.
Alternatively alternatively, try Hitokiri. He's a certified pugstomper with infinite heavy hyper armor chains and enough variable timing to make anyone cringe. Also has access to a feat that guarantee executions and a Tier 4 that one-shots people even at full health.

Semi-newbie here, honestly this game doesn't seem really skillful.
The skill expression is really rare, people can just spam lights or gank you.
Duels is a lot of fun and a test of skill, everything else is a babby shitshow.
You may call me a cluless newbie if you want, but after 80 hours most of my matches are all the same.
Against people who are experienced in ganking there is nothing you can do. They can do completely unavoidable setups and delete you with no chance for revenge. But those people are rather rare. I enjoy dominion for the chaos but if you're looking for an actual test of skill stick with brawl and duels.

first 90 hours, usb xbox controller (because pc) (kensei only, because balance)
next 30 hours, keyboard, remapped keys and final step is integrating feint into my play (dabble in centurion, highlander, assassin and invest into conq)
(can guardbreak counter, can reliably "unblockable guardbreak" on a few characters, just muscle memory)
final 10 hours, intense practise, first learning to combo and reliably pull of moves instead of mashing and fat fingering.
then it was learning basic mechanics like parry all over again and 50/50s
against noobs who don't have a basic combo down, with a feint guardbreak 'finish'
i dont truly regard, but for those i've mentioned, it feels like a character recognition and parry game (which on some level i don't appreciate, because of the sheer amount of memory associated with timings)

This event game mode is just a shining example of how bad the revenge system is. The game mode is literally 4v4 in a forced tiny arena designed for 1v1s. You are NEVER ganked by design of the fricking mode yet people can still force revenge by cheesing the system.
