Never played it which is probably why I didn't really have anything to compare the gameplay to, hense why 2 is currently filtering me. I have the HD collection on my series x since I wanted to check out the series.
Well you should probably emulate MGS1 at least if you don't have any other options for playing it, playing the series out of order is only going to make it harder to enjoy the story. I'd even suggest maybe trying MG1+2 although it's not really a big deal if you don't.
Gee it's almost like 1 has been stuck on the PlayStation for fricking ever now and just barely getting released to all platforms later this year. And no I won't emulate the fricking thing
You're a fricking moron. You can play it on PlayStation 1-3, PSP, Vita, PSClassic, GameCube, and even natively on PC if you're really against just emulating it in Duckstation for a pretty great experience.

I like to use it to get no kills+no alerts, though. Also it's fricking annoying that the thrust attack for the non-lethal blade still does lethal damage, they should've made it a pommel strike or something. Maybe it was my shitty analog stick but I accidentally used it and it ruined my no kill run.
I don't care about no kills but yeah, it's strange that they even thought of such a cool detail as turning the blade over to hit enemies with the flat side but then didn't think of turning the trust into a pommel bash. Still butthurt the sword was not an unlockable item.

kind of ironic that the more dynamic camera angles that add a lot of flavor and personality to the game also make it worse than it probably would've been if it just stayed top-down the whole way through
Same. I loved Metal Gear Solid 1 and immediately jumped into 2. The tanker stuff was okay and then I got to the main game. It's not a bad game but I didn't really feel hooked so I've been putting it off for years. I don't know why, I guess because the story seems pretty much the same?
I'm planning to force myself through the game once I finish Policenauts though.
for bros who actually like MGS2: does it hold up? i remember playiing the demo when it dropped and just being in absolute love with the gaame. then in the full game you got to raiden and youre like :O but he's still badass
I don't know how this is possible. If you don't like the story, skip all cutscenes and finish the game in 5 hours.
What's putting you off?
Honestly I think the gameplay is filtering me. I actually like the story and it's goofy bits.
Mgs2 search teams are brutal, also no radar when you first enter an area is a strange design decision
Well playing MGS1 helps.

You can’t play it without mgs1 bro stop and go play that.
I'd have to wait till October when 1 releases with the vol 1 collection. I can grab it separate from the others.
Or just emulate MGS1

>playing MGS2 before 1 when one of the game's biggest twists is dependent on the player having played 1 first
lmao

moron.
it's on PC moron

Did you like MGS1?
Don't use the tranq gun. It's most overpowered gun in all of video games. Literally a tool to skip gameplay mechanics.
Never mind, you're moronic

Yeah, that's a shame, real missed opportunity.
Canonically snake would have gotten passed all the guards by sneaking / punching them unconscious , only using guns for bosses
Canonically Snake's punches were lethal until MGS1.

Why don’t you do a little soul searching?
Bet you won’t find anything.
I just finished it. Hated the game at first ut now Im considering doing another run

Trust the master 🙂

It holds up fine. The whole series does.
