I didn't know I liked RPG's until I played Jade Empire for the first time at age 11, after which I went and played everything else Bioware had, well, until DA:I. Same with JRPG's, nothing in that genre caught my eye until Persona 4 when I was 15. That's just how interests are formed. You don't know if you like something until you try it for yourself. Will everyone who is playing BG3 right now automatically become a lifelong CRPG fan? Probably not. But it sets a precedent, and that's important. Just like the other anon said, until Stardew, farming games were super niche and a rarely talked about genre. Now? Even my brother-in-law who is a super serious Navy guy is addicted to farming simulator. Bottom line: Everything in the world is always in a state of flux and always will be. Big genres will become small, small genres will become big. Things change.

I don't think you realize just how much the pandemic revitalized table top games. They have a more complex barrier for entry because you need multiple people for a campaign, so having a single player D&D campaign that has a ton of depth that rivals the tabletop game has a large audience.

They do update correctly, but anyone who launched the game at least once is counted as player. That's why most games don't have 100% on an achievement that you can get by playing for 5 minutes, someone installed the game, launched, but just didn't play it for some reason.

I don't know how long it would take to do Descent From Avernus, but normally the "Take Your First Step" achievements has about 80-90% completion.

Tactician will need you to really, actually tactically think and position for fights. Otherwise there will be a ton of reloading. Shit, I'm playing on Balanced and I had to try like 4 different approaches for a tough fight today (finally got carried by the most obvious solution simply with Shadowheart landing a 5man fear).
I had to reload so I could push the ragedude down the spiderpit without aggroing the entire goblin's nest. It worked, but not always, and you can't pause the game to select your actions.
Shift-space or click the button to enter turn-based mode. You can "pause time" like that to set up surprise attacks or react to fleeing enemies.

Enemies have disadvantage when attacking you from below and only have los if you're at the edge, literally just move to edge, attack, then retreat and repeat

I am debating on whether I want to be a paladin or a wizard. On one hand, I want to LARP as the good guy hero paladin, but the spells that wizards have access to seem more fun. Plus, I want my character to be intelligent in game, which seems to be the lowest stat for paladins. Any advice?

Intelligence has very little impact on dialogue, the most you'll get is knowledge checks.
Also, and this is moronic, there's no group formation function yet, so if you're leading the party with your MC (like almost everyone) for dialogue, etc., he'll be in front.
When the fight starts you don't want to be a wizard in the middle of pissed off enemies.
