I yet to get to saga myself, only played MM 1-3
but overall I'd say you are good to go, games in series have no relation to each other and you'll have fun either way
go for it OP, it's a fun series.

      >games in series have no relation to each other
1-4 and Xeno do. Saga is a offsoot.

at that point you can argue that all FF games related to each other.
Let people play games they want, no prior MM game necessary to enjoy one you started playing.

No, MM is all a single setting, even Metal Saga. There's continuity but not a continuous storyline.

MM3 and 2R don't really need you to use the stylus at all.
Hagane no Kizetsu on the other hand literally forces you to use the stylus for every single thing, and it was one of the reasons why it was an abject failure and most people won't touch it with a 10ft pole, especially since the stylus controls are pretty bad too.
            [...]
Technically there is a minor direct continuity with MM1>Metal Saga/HnK, you might argue there's also a continuity with MM1>MM2 since MM2 expands on what truly happened with NOAH but there's no direct link between the events of MM1 and MM2.
I really don't know about the state of the MM1>MS "canon" nowadays since Miyaoka is still fumbling around, but it technically is there even if most people have mixed feelings about it.

I guess I just thought of games as having similar setting, since nothing obvious to me pointed that it's same one.
            My bad anons.

I've heard Metal Max 2 reloaded is the best in the series

Longest. If you complete ALL side quests and go for all weapons, about 120 hrs+

Metal Saga is basically an alternate continuity series that is also a direct sequel to the first game.
You can start with whatever you want but if you do not play MM1/MMR first you won't understand much about some implications of Metal Saga's story, especially all the lore about NOAH.

Most people consider it the peak, yeah.

i've only played mmr and mm2r but i honestly don't like mm2r that much. it's great at first but once you get dual classing the balance gets so out of whack that it feels kind of lame, wrestler/artist (iirc) shits out so much more damage than anything else and the game is basically balanced around you having that in your party.

Soldiers are better, always going last every turn with wrestler is a big liability
Foot combat has funky balance because in the MM3 system (if anyone doesn't know, mm2r is a remake of a Snes game and it came out after MM3 using tweaked MM3 systems) your mc was basically a soldier-hunter so you were always going to be decent at foot combat. But in the mm2r system anything but first class soldier and wrestler is going to be close to dead weight on foot because they're just missing the stats for it that MM3 mc had. But you only really need one foot fighter.

I just don't know why you'd want to jump into Metal Saga first, because it's the worst. It's not bad or anything, it's just not good. The first three games, Metal Max Reloaded, Metal Max 2 Remake and Metal Max 3 are all incredible games. They're all in English. You should give those a shot first, and once you've beaten them and want more Metal Max, you should give Metal Saga a try.

Oh I always thought metal saga was metal max. And like it was sorta a dragon warrior/quest thing where atlus tweaked the name like squaresoft.

Some legal shit caused by data east dying, like they can't use the metal max name but can use the IP

Saga sucks. Incredibly sluggish and it is addicted to these terrible maze levels made by connecting tiny rooms with disorienting links. If it had some virtues beyond other mm games I could bear with it but there is nothing
I love metal max returns and love the ds version of mm2 but can't get through saga. MM3 is way more worth bearing with its weaknesses than saga

I would say that you should play it exactly after youre done with main titles
In 1-4 mm you can see how it improves with each new title (i like 4 the best but theres only nip version and troonslators seem to have no progress on it) but saga is a thing on its own with rather meh level up system
I played series in that order
    2>3>1>4>xeno(og)>ms>msSoS(don't bother)>xeno reborn(only if you're extremely bored)
it doesn't matter that much as nothing except for msSoS(garbage) has any sort of continuity

I don't particularly enjoy playing DS or 3DS games on my PC due to the stylus bullshit so I never got into the habit.

I'd rather wait half a decade more for something decent than to get another half baked bs and even worse one remake
Although i would still play it no matter what
