What does Ganker think of the SIREN series?
I almost never see it talked about on here and I think that's a shame since Siren is probably one of the most unique horror games to this day.

Ganker is too casual for this sort of game.
This place always acts like they are hardcore gamers but I swear we hardly get any Ganker threads for games from the PS2 ere
>he just found out
It's ok anon. Ganker never plays the games they shill.
It all went to /vr/ after the mods decided they were having too much fun so PS2 and OG xbox became allowed.
Cool game. Should be played on a CRT TV.
It was too fricking hard. I played up to when you get to play as some teacher with a girl sidekick but kept getting sniped no matter what I did so I dropped it even though I really wanted to like it
Got a Steam Deck recently so I might give it another chance with save states
Siren is probably the hardest survival horror game ever made.
You have to have patience for this game since the game is not forgiven
I still think it's worth it since the atmosphere is still unmatched to this day and it's got a really interesting and unique story. plus it's one of the few horror games out there I would call legit terrifying.
>Have patience
That's an understatement. There's nothing worse than sneaking around a mission for twenty minutes only to get sighted by a sniper and getting one shot.
you're supposed to walk around the bridge and turn off the lights
I haven't yet but it's on my list because it's directed by Keiichiro Toyama.
if anyone here doesn't know who that is you should look him up.
Great horror game but obtuse as hell, anyone who says they beat it without a guide is a lying frick
When I was a young teen I found it too scary to continue. Atmosphere was amazing and I crushed hard on Miyako.
I haven't finished Siren 2 or Blood Curse yet.
So I can say that Forbidden Siren is the single most terrifying horror game ever made.
I'd suck someone's dick just to get a new Siren game. Frick Silent Hill I still think there's more you can do with the Siren series in compression to that old worn out series.
See, see this shit?
Why the frick aren't indie game developers at the point that they can make classic survival horror games? Why is there only one of that kind out there? Okay, two.
They've gotten to the PS1 era of gaming graphics and they look pretty good they aren't too far off from making games that look and feel like Siren.
Yeah, and I know there's Tormented Souls as well, but why are there more proper ones in the old style and not something different like Signalis?
Fixed camera styled RE clone games are pretty popular everyone to this day sill loves classic RE and SH
Siren sadly is pretty obscure in compression. the real big players of early horror gaming were all RE styled.
Lost in Vivo might be something you might wanna play if you want a horror game going for retro style PS1 horror but not in the style of RE gameplay.
>Fixed camera styled RE clone games are pretty popular everyone to this day sill loves classic RE and SH
SH didn't have a fixed camera style.
while not exactly fixed camera it's still very similar
Indie's coping horror games tend to always take inspiration from RE or SH
Aweful game. Almost everything about it sucks. The story is stupid. The controls are terrible. The gameplay is bad. The puzzles are beyond moronic. The graphics are bad. The performance absolutely sucks. It's one of the worst games I've ever played.
Filtered ESL
Loved Silent Hill, then I heard the director was the same and proceeded to play it.
Absolutely garbage game with stealth sections and scripted gameplay, but I guess Amnesia or modern horror fans would enjoy it.
Just play Fatal Frame 1~3 or Silent Hill 1~3 and leave knowing you played the best of the best.
>unironically propping up a "horror" game where you score extra points for headshots over Siren
Frick off
>The "horror" game where a small Japanese town has snipers stationed at every junction
it's a hunting village anon. villagers do tend to have hunting rifles. not to mention it's a cult and they like to have weapons in case of outsiders.
>Just play Fatal Frame 1~3
Legit what's so good about Fatal Frame anyway? And don't tell me some bullshit like "Le atmosphere..." Because silent hill 2 is the only game I'll ever make that exception for again.
The atmosphere. homosexual.
Having to enter first person and leave yourself vulnerable is pretty spooky. 1 is also one of the few games that does the whole "play through the same area but different" thing well in my opinion.
FF is weeb contrarian SHIT and always has been. Ghosts are fricking gay no matter how you dress them up.
played the first one to completion. the plot is confusing but I think it's about some alien creature I forget.
There's like a famine or something in a village and then a UFO crashes so the villages decide to eat the alien but the alien has magic powers or something and curses the village.
It's very streamlined but I still really like Siren Blood Curse.
I haven't seen another game where an integral part of the plot is how religion changes over time.
Closest I've seen is The Iconoclasts.
That games like this were even made at all is a miracle.
Siren 2 is still one of the scariest games I've ever played. peak monster designs
>peak monster designs
that's just how asians look like, anon.
Why is 2 not available on the ps store? Licensing issue?
not really scary in game. They get trapped in doorways and you can easily cheese them. In general 2s shadow people monsters were a downgrade in general. They acted like innocents whos nature was just to be creepy and spooky which didnt come off as scary sometimes, but rather just mischievous.
I mean thats what they really were besides ones like The Major but I think he was a shibito right?
Yorito's endint i think thats what his name was proves it to an extent
Sightjacking is still one of the greatest mechenics in gaming history.
time travel bullshit
One of only two candidates for the title of "actually a horror game", IMO.
Emulation is fricked up on ps4 I think if I run in a straight line I go at a steady pace but if I tilt the joystick to the left or right while running I often walk and need to jerk the joystick or go back to neutral and move forth again to run. Game's hard enough but it's near impossible when your character suddenly decides to walk slowly when pursued.
First game is worth playing through at least once. The game is so difficult no other game will feel difficult afterwards. The "Finish the rifle grandpa escort mission in under 2 minutes"-mission is guaranteed to cause a lot of rage for how stupidly hard it is. The game is a rough diamond all around and one day I'll be ready to replay it again. Great atmosphere.
2nd game is already a way easier game with ton of improvements. Yamibitos are cool as frick, best levels are the ones where Shibito and Yamibito are fighting each other and you're trying to sneak through their battles.
3rd game is fine, not as memorable as the first game but similar to how STALKER: Call of Pripyat is a good entry game to the series, Siren:Blood curse is similarly a good entry point for newbies. Last boss is great in all of its epilepsy-seizure inducing glory.
I started the Siren series with Blood Curse and I loved it. but soon after I played Forbidden Siren and Siren 2 Forbidden Siren is like going from easy mode to very fricking hard mode. I ended up loving it and 100% Siren 1 despite it's difficulty. I loved the atmosphere and story and the gameplay become oddly fun despite kicking my ass. I just wanted to beat it since it was a good challenge.
Siren 2 is probably the best game in the series if you ask me. it's not only terrifying but it fixes most of the problems with Siren 1. I still need to 100% Siren 2 someday.
I agree that Blood Curse is a good starting point. people who play Forbidden Siren 1 will have a hard time getting into it due to have unforgiven the game is.
I'm surprised nobody mentions the village from Siren when people talk about truly hellish video game locations. I honestly would rather be in Silent Hill or Racoon city than Hanuda village.
Its just japanese Innsmouth. Only hellish thing about it is the fact Shibito do not stay dead so you can't hide in one place forever.
Simply because people were filtered or didn't play it at all.
Plus I don't think it was localized in burgerica so it's more popular in Europe.
Siren and Blood Curse both got limited US releases. 2 didn't.
Shit controls
Fricking horrifying.
And horrifyingly hard. Stay far away if you are a casual.
Emulated long time ago
Read the mission you play as priest.
Visual glitches
Dont know how to fix it
Quit
Play siren 2
Reach mission with cop and some shadows
Follow map tellig me to go to a room to find a key
Cant find key
Quit
What the hell even happened in this game? I remember playing the demo on PS2 for the 2nd game and just the main menu theme was enough for me to turn it off, was like 10 at the time. Is it worth starting with this one?
It's one of only two actually frightening horror games I've ever played.
But, it's also stupidly hard, and even back in the day it wasn't visually pretty for a PS2 game. Also the english dub was a bit shit. So depends really on your tolerance for the downsides.
I couldn't beat Blood Curse. Too fricking scary
Cool setting and ideas,
poor implementation further ruined by abysmal performance. I'm also not really a fan of "episodic" designs in games, it ruins my immersion. Many of the routes / endings are simply way too obscure to be figured out on your own.
