    >Make a decent spiritual successor to your game, but frick it up with intensely unlikable npcs like Skyward Sword did, make level expansions pointless to wait for past the first two worlds, instead of doing something unique with the first half. Empty ass fields of shit. Unlikable Bee character. Decent bosses and the music music in the game was used for them.

Make a sequel in homage of DKC games, ends up being way fricking better, with a much lower budget. The jokes and characters are all better, the setting is sublime, with Kirkwood doing overworld stuff and David Wise doing serious shit. The base levels are done by a team all aping hard off Wise' style, leaving for some great moments.
Only negative is the game lives up to its namesake, and it's really hard due to Laylee's bullshit, but having a massive overworld to explore and collect and find better shit was very welcome.

Biggest negative being you have to beat the on the first try (For either Impossible or Not-So-Impossible) to unlock the true ending that essentially retcons the entire first game and shakes everything up.

None of this matters as there won't be a sequel. What a weird fricking series. Posting the secret ending where Laylee DBZ's the world with her "wish" along with a bunch of great music from the game.

Any of these songs have 4 different forms, depending on if there is water in the level, and it will dynamically change to a more aquatic/nonacquatic variant. There is a full 8-bit album that sounds great, too, which also goes by the above method. 4 tracks of the same song is a decent amount of work.

Here's that ending no one ever sees without help:

Oh, and Bee is a much better character when he's trying to "ape" K Rule in Impossible Lair, rather than whatever the frick is goal is the original.
This is where I'd post the good Yooka Laylee fanart. IF I HAD ANY!

      >Not-So-Impossible
This was an update, right? What fricking pussies.

        Anonymous

It isn't quite what you think. The very first level of the game has you do the Impossible Lair, instead of the usual "Oh no, level 99 boss fight you have to lose" cliche, where almost everyone loses. That was your own chance to get that ending, but they changed it so you could get it on your first attempt on Not-So-Impossible, but only the first. Doesn't matter how many bees you have. I can't remember if quitting before dying counts as a lose, but it probably does.
Still hard as balls, for what is essentially Laylee re-writing the entire YL lore via fanfiction. If I remember correctly, she makes everything Impossible Lair canon, makes HIVE canon and turns Bee's sister into it, as the new antagonist of the series.

          Oh. Interesting.

            Anonymous

Actually, I might be wrong in that they chose to switch Imposible via a switch like the other levels, and if you DO beat that one now, you get the 3rd ending. Which is a lot more understandable. They haven't worked on it in awhile, though.
You still definitely need to get the NSIL in one shot, so I suggest going in with the max amount of bees, 44. I think. Still, it's not easy.
Really fun, really hard game with great music and level-switching overworld mechanics. It feels like a much harder old Rare game.

If the core fans say something is shitty it's probably because that thing failed to capture the subtle things that made the reference work special
It's very easy for someone who isn't all that interested in the reference work to begin with to come up with a conclusion that both games are the same because superficially they are similar
And it's also very stupid because it implies you believe a narrative where all of those core fans are all just crazy people with no consistency in their line of thinking who just decided to dunk on a game for no good reason

BK had very few problems though and YL just added to them. That move where Laylee rides a rolling Yooka is the worst equivalent to talon trot. I don't know why they made it way harder to control.
            The music is forgettable.
The levels are big and empty and the NPCs don't look like they belong there, then for some reason you can turn the levels bigger and emptier.

Saying it's just as good as Banjo-Kazooie is disingenuous

Banjo doesn't have ANY problems, it's as simple as a 3D platformer can get without being obtuse and lacking tools.

That's why YL blows such dick. Here's a game about simplicity in movement and they add a bunch of physics-based untested shit that's not precise in the least to be used with precise platforming. You know what was great about Banjo? He effectively had a triple jump at all times. It was difficult to frick up platforming when you can use Kazooie to hover in the air for free.

If you're pointing to one off events instead of something persistent that just shows those are the exceptions that prove the rule. If I wanted to make the case that say Banjo Kazooie isn't a hard game I wouldn't list one off instances. I would talk about persistent things such as the plentiful health drops, the lack of environmental damage, and the lack of enemies that do more than just run forward. And the odd boss fight or mini game that is tough would be the exceptions that prove the rule.

This style of listing off as many one line green texts by annon instead of summarizing the whole thing in a few brief sentences is just terrible persuasion in general.

sluggish movement and combat like the NES games while the DS games already had made it so much better
shit graphics with a generic setting
uninteresting exploration with nothing more to find than useless crafting materials so going anywhere that isn't the main path is a waste of time
garbage story with way too much dialogue despite having no substance
didn't improve anything from the classic games and didn't add anything besides the crafting system which is a filler gimmick that only adds a chore to the game
the whole game feels like a low budget ripoff made by students doing an asset flip, and it puts iga's talent in doubt, same as inafune

good idea, poor execution. there was 2 mildly enjoyable levels in that game, the first and the casino level but expansion was a meh gimmick. you can tell they implemented the character controller with dynamic rigidbody physics too which is fricking terrible. any platforming game that doesn't have a kinematic character is trash.

Level design was bad in general. In Banjo when you go inside a door it leads to the inside of the structure. Doors in Yooka Laylee just go to random places (A door that goes inside a mountain returns to a different area on the outside the mountain, not the inside). The 2D game was good though.

I may be wrong but to me it's just the fact that they don't match modern aesthetic trends, they feel insincere in that they're purposefully trying to recapture that late 90s-early 2000s scrimblo feel instead of being their own thing.
It's as if Cartoon Network suddenly put on a show that looks exactly like early Powerpuff Girls or Dexter, it'd be a jarring and immediately obvious appeal to nostalgiagays.

I lost interest pretty fast. The character is ugly and stupid an having to look at it every frame really hurts the fun. And the rate at which you have something fun to do is weak anyway. There is a lot walking through empty space without any jumping, fighting, collecting, or even something beautiful to look at.

It's not a bad game but if you are going to play 3D platformers I'd go through all the A-listers and a few of the B-listers before touching this. You just have better things to do.
