hating Abilities is low IQ. imagine wanting the game to be less complex

The problem with abilities is that either it's too strong or it's too weak, nothing in between

          Anonymous

they should just buff the shitter abilities to level the playing field in that case
it's inevitable that some abilities are gonna be worse than others, but the least they could do is try to give every ability some kind of relevant niche instead of creating shit like frisk and anticipation that have no gameplay benefit other than telling you something you could have easily figured out yourself.
the fact that they waited six gens to give illuminate an in-battle effect and the effect in question is just a clone of keen eye is crazy

            Anonymous

Frisk could be helpful if the oppnent had a Z-Move or something so that way you wouldn't waste a turn using Knock Off thinking it will do something. i don't particularly see anything wrong with knowing what the opponent's held item is before they do something. the faster you know, the better

              Anonymous

it's not useful in the meta because, after you see a mon on the field, you already know what sets they might be using, and so what items are they carrying. Frisk is superflous in that aspect

            Anonymous

Frisk is a good ability to learn what set your opponent is running without risking anything.
Ex. If his Rotom has a choice item, it won't have Will o Wisp or Thunder Wave, Frisk lets you know this without risking crippling one of your mons

Trainer skills or abilities that you unlock through badges or missions. They can have downsides, or even be locked to certain Pokémon types. Imagine the villain having a skill that gimps your team or skills that make Pokémon better at healing. It could be interesting, though you’d have to make it unique from Pokémon abilities.

Next gimmick focuses on held item. You can make a pokemon hold a special held item that lets them hold a second held item.

Knowing Gen 10 will add yet another tiresome gimmick that makes the game unfun is actually the primary reason I am not excited for it, not the buggy nonsense turbo mess the recent releases have been, but the fact that battling has stopped being fun. Didn't like Z-moves either but at least those and megas required a held item so there was an opportunity cost at least and it wasnt just this all consuming garbage gimmick that infects every single battle without pause.

  7. 7 months ago

Something with items? Once per battle you can activate an item and have it be more powerful or something. Activate a berry to have it go off immediately and have twice the effect. Activate a focus sash and it now works as long as a Pokemon is at >1HP.

          Nah. 3 gens.

This gen (gen 9) sees johto.
Next gen (gen 10) sees Unova.
          Gen 11 doesn't feature a traditional remake.
          Gen 12 features kalos revisit.

Not him but im guess ing that iit is because either "Let's Go 2" and since LGPE was Gen 1 people think Gen 2 is the obvious follow up, or "Legends Celebi" because Celebi is time related (Allowing for Space-Time Storms) and emblematic for Gen 2.

Gen 11 could remake B2W2 to fill the gap. Everything after that follows a pretty nice pattern because every ten after five had a remakes contained in it.

Switch between your 2 abilities mid battle. If having your hidden ability, switches between that and the first mid battle. So
    1><2
    2><1
3><1. 1><3 would not be possible

Would also release super special event pokemon that can get the 1><3, 2><3, and 3><2 combos instead

    Forms + Types

Next one gonna be Balltism, where a mon get second ability depending on what ball it is in when activated, with Rare Balls having more powerful ones, this also of course comes with new Balls specialized for types of Pokémon.

      Anonymous

If they do this I hope they give us the ability to move pokemon to different balls. I've been begging for that just for the sake of cosmetics.

        Anonymous

Maybe with some restrictions and/or expensive item, honestly my main idea with it was to:

        1) Valuing up the 100% Catch rate of raids to keep them relevant, like perhaps a ball that is good for a mon is fricking awful to use to catch said mon. (*Cough*Beast Ball*Cough*), so you do a raid to get the mon in that ball.
        2) Make Event Mons (IE: Cherish Ball ones) inherently more unique even in battle, doesn't need to be a STRONG FOR BATTLE abillity, something like a ability for money that stacks with Amulet Coin and Happy Hour for MASSIVE DOSH would also be cool.
        3) Buff Master Ball, it already can't be passed down so it should have good powerful ability, and with Raids the Catch rate really isn't all that, even if it is that ball of choice for hackers.
        4) Nerf Quick Balls, Ugly as sin, but they are good at catching to a point you don't really need much else aside from against legendaries, so they should have a shitty abillity to reflect the lack of effort in catching them.
        5) Have a a excuse to get more fricking balls, i love BAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLS, but really, i want more balls themed to types for visual Balltism.

I like this idea, but my one issue with it is what if the ball that looks best for a Pokemon happens to be the worst gameplay ability for it.

The answer to this would be some sort of Ball Mint I suppose.

I want a Legendary or Mythic that has a signature move or ability that causes all Pokemon to revert to their normal forms. Palafin / Washi, Terras, Megas, Weather form, alternative form just whatever goes straight back to the basic b***h mon

      Anonymous

I could see it happen for specific gimmicks, but not so much one universal CLEAR ALL, i mena for specific ones we technically have the Z-Dog Signature Moves and Dynamax Cannon for Dynaman DELEEETing the gimmick by just plan having the 2x Damage modifier, so not like they haven't dipped their toes in that kind of shit.

The issue with "alternative form" is what would be the "Base" one for mons that just have pointless or nearly pointless ones like Unown and Tas-Tats... Sushi Fish that just alters like one single move and are kinda shitmons and what would be the "base form" of something like Oricorio. I get that you are probably trying to gimp Palafin and Wishiwashi specifically though, but honestly shit like Cherrim and Castform don't really need a "Ha ha, i delete your gimmick" thing to deal with.

    We have enough gimmicks.
    We don't need more gimmicks.
They should focus on the gameplay and story and just keep things moving forward.
FF "needing" to reinvent itself for every game is why that franchise sucks.

      Its the japanese way
      >Make proper iterative sequels for a while, each one trying to improve on the last
      >right before you manage to perfect things throw it all out and start trying to reinvent the wheel every single time for no reason.
      >Sales suddenly skyrocket

Pokémon finally joins the equippable ally trope with new small not-Pokémon organisms that can aid your Pokémon in battle by giving them a small boost in a specific stat + a second ability based on (one of) your Pokémon’s egg group(s).

They’d be the equivalent of your Pokémon having their own Pokémon, mostly being cute little critters that exist mainly to sell more merch.

I've thought about this before! In my design, you would have the 3rd legendary in a "weak form" almost from the beginning of the story, just like Zygarde cells. The legendary "joins battle" with one of our Pokémon on command, once per battle, and would stay with it for the remainder of the battle. The form would give some buffs depending on your choice and depending on the buff given, the criter would have a different form, so there is a visual cue on the buff being given atm. The buffs can be varied, extra hits on moves, weather buffs, resistance Vs super effective moves, almost anything could be used really! And because this legendary is multiple like the Z cells, any gym leader or strong trainer can possibly get one and use it! You can even make the gym leaders theme being based on the "form" they eventually use in battle!

It always has to have a visual component, forms, moves it's obvious. For type change they made the change as obvious as possible with the ridiculous hats. For abilities, what would be the visual cue?

The ability to use 2 ability's from the Pokemon line
    >What about Pokemon who only have 1 ability for all 3 ability's?
    They get a stacked effect

Super abilities. Think of Ogerpon’s masks as the template. With a certain held item, once per battle you can “supercharge” one of your pokemon with a preset ability based on the gimmick item. Abilities have multiple functions, like water bubble, to justify giving up your item slot.

Basically imagine the mix and mega fanmade Smogon meta.

Maybe they finally give Pokémon more than one ability. It worked in the earlier Mystery Dungeon titles after all.
