How did they do it
I didn't like it
they did not hand the franchise to nero. they made the Donte reboot and in 5 Nero is one out of three (later four) playable characters.
They handed it to him in the ending though, it's implied dante and vergil are stuck forever which is weird considering vergils dimension cutting shit
that never happened. people hated DmC when they reboot it myself included
>everyone liked it
I know you're too young to remember anon, but everyone hated Nero when 4 first came out because they presented it like he was replacing Dante. Only once people actually played the game and realized Dante was still around and playable did everyone start warming up to him. Then we got Donte and anyone else that was still bitter about Nero was simply happy that 5 exists at all
he's relatable, like dante in 3
Everybody hated it. There was ungodly amount of whining purely because of the new character, not to mention game essentially being only half a game due to repeated stages.
And now that 5 not only doubles down introducing third character reducing Dante time even further, it also reuses many hated Tameem's reboot assets and features, provides completely unsatisfying story and ending, blackens Morrison from anime and tries both to pander to old fans reintroducing Vergil and to potential new fans with "here is your new generation" bullshit, ultimately failing at everything.
People didn't like Nero until 5.
He wasn't that bad in 4. In fact, 4 gets way too much hate. 5 > 3 = 4 > 1 > 2 and I will die on that hill
Everyone likes it now anyway, that's the point
>release godawful controversial Tameem and then bland "look, we got better" sequel to the original series
>yay, people now hate our previous expeeiment less, because now they have something even worse to compare to!
No. It's still shit, people like 1 or 3.
>people like 1 or 3
Who has even played these lol? Unless you played them when you were 8 and are blinded by nostalgia.
you do know this is a site for grownups acting like special ed children, right? it's not a site for actually moronic kids
Shut the frick up newgen.
>everyone liked it
Nice history revision you HD collection secondary homosexual. The bulk of the fanbase hated Nero in 08.
>everyone liked it
a lot of people fricking hated nero when 4 came out, and though people have warmed up to him more by now most people still prefer dante
people hated it in DMC4, they liked it in 5 because they gave him an expanded moveset and dante had his own section instead of just 9 missions of backtracking.
Because that didn’t happen.
this is historical revisionism at it's finest
>everyone liked it
Hello zoomer. Fun fact, DMC4 was widely hated because of Nero.
DMC4 was hated because you play the game twice.
Nero is pretty likeable in both games (5 is much better tho).
It literally killed the franchise.
No one likes nero. If a new game comes out focused on him, I'm sure no one will like it. His growth as a character was shit compared to Dante's in DMC3 and there is no room left to develop his character other than putting Kyrie's life in danger AGAIN.
>everyone liked it
In what world? Nero was tolerated at best and people thought that 4 was a weak entry after 3. Most thought that Nero's moveset was too shallow and the idea of him taking over the franchise was appalling. No one really wants established characters to get fricked over because the "creator" is tired of them or whatever. It never sits right, it will never be the norm. The only thing that Nero has going for him is that he's actually the next generation as Vergil's son/Dante's Nephew. So at the very least there is an actual family connection there. This thinly veiled Spiderman thread is shit, Miles is a shit character and no one likes him for good reason.
>Nero's moveset is shallow
This is straight up bullshit, everyone loved his b***h slapping frick off grabs, finishers and ground pounds, the whole susanoo shit was icing on the cake, red Queen alone was great too. Amongst the characters Nero held his own as a fun playstyle, if it only Nero ingame I could see your point but people grew to like his powers mixed besides dantes
People were pissed at Nero when they thought he was replacing Dante in 4.
Then more info came out and they saw Dante would still be there, which made some more accepting.
Then when 4 came out and Dante was literally half the game and also better, most people decided Nero was alright, but not good.
Over time, as people explored his playstyle more, Nero got more love from the fanbase.
Then DmC came out and everyone knew that they looked a gift horse in the mouth, and Nero became much more popular by comparison to Donte.
So the majority of DMC fans ended up liking Nero as a second-fiddle to Dante.
They were worried at the start, but worries were unfounded and thoughts on him only improved over time.
I mean, besides what others have said, it also helps that it didn't marginalize and shit on Dante to fricked up extents. Halo tried to emphasize Locke and it made Locke an Avengers Assemble tier "look at how badass he is" superhero while trying to shit on Chief and Cortana. Bayonetta tried to do the Nero setup and it shafted the protagonist while doing a shit job of making anyone care for its new protagonist I already forgot the name of. So many of these things will do dumb shit like kill old protags or make them idiots to put new ones on a pedestal.
Nero basically gets to share the limelight instead of it being all Nero all the time.
No mission in DMC should be longer than 5-10 minutes. I want to get through the games fast like Sonic, not just mash combos for no reason.
Nero is so cute
They look exactly the same, minus the prosthetic.
Dang it's almost like they look similar cause they're related
liked it
You were not there and it shows
i hate nero
He's just an angry lil guy
No one liked Nero when 4 came out, hence why the reboot happened in the first place. After no one liked that either, we got 5, and some people like him now because they think it redeemed him or something. IMO I think the problem that most fans have with him is that they don't want him to completely replace Dante, which is fair, and that a large portion of his character is just KYRIEEEEE, who is herself basically not a character besides being Nero's love interest. In 5 he had more motivations than just KYRIEEEEEEEE and got more development because we got to see him interact with other characters like Vergil, Trish, Lady, Nico.
