    outside of mobile games, anyway

Free shit? Probably your run of the mill gacha shit but it's up to you if you consider that "free" when you're still paywalled.
As for other fully free (or at least free to a large enough extent to allow you to experience the entire game without hassle), MMOs, most are either tiny EOS games, or private servers of older MMOs like City of Heroes, WoW servers, Ragnarok Online/Maple Story, etc.

BDO pvp is still fun to me despite Mr. Kim trying to kill it but the pve is a chore and it'll take you forever to get any decent gear for pvp. Personally I'm waiting on Wallcraft's full release next year.

How easy is to get my own house to customize?
Like, imagine I'm a F2P that at best will pay the sub, how much time do I need to invest to get a little player housing? How easy or expensive is to make my house look not shit?

        Anonymous

houses are in somewhat limited quantity in xiv and if you dont play for long enough they demolish your house, also you have to play a lottery just to get a house and anything other than the smallest houses are taken, you can buy a apartment but those are pretty small but at least you get to keep it forever

The money isn't hard to get, especially for a small house, but all of the houses are taken except on the Dynamis data center, because no one plays there (it's new). On a regular server you have to enter housing lotteries to buy up abandoned plots. The housing system is pretty cool once you have one though.

You can get an apartment pretty easily, but you won't be happy with it.

You played ARR, which is the World of Warcraft clone. HW they changed their design philosophy to stop being a WoW clone and in Stormblood the second expansion (still free to trial) they perfectly their approach.
You cannot seriously think the game has remained the same for 9 years? It's an mmo by definition they change.

You should figure out what you want from a MMORPG and worry less about how popular it is. They all have way too many servers anyway.

genuinely just pick up the private server of one of the 2000's mmos since you said you were already ok with private servers. EQ, ff11, pso if you want something less strictly "mmorpg"

Our clan/nation owned the undead/jungle isle in that bay area of the big continent, was great for power leveling, and had a bunch of subclass runes if i remember. I'm pretty sure there are fan servers out there but haven't tried any of them.

Good times indeed, then right after this I hopped over to WoW.

You can play a Single Player Private Server of classic WoW, it has a ton of bots to roleplay as players so it feels a little bit lived in.

Or you could pay $15 a month for an online-only version.

you could browse ragezone for server software and host one yourself or any other old dead mmo server software if current private server offerings arent what you want

    >i miss the late 2000s->2010s where a new MMO came out every other week
Well you can blame WoW and it's players rather addicts for that never happening again. They would release their patches and expansions on the exact days as a new mmo was releasing their patches and they'd do it deliberately to stamp out competition. Along with WoW addicts running defense and making any discussion of and other mmo on the market almost impossible.
Other companies gave up or threw in the towel.

Why do you think the only other really large mmo is Japanese? Because for years the main playerbase for FFXIV were Japanese and had no interest in WoW along with WoW addicts being too moronic to understand Japanese to shitpost on Jap forums about FFXIV to them and talk up WoW.
So if you wondered why the western MMO market has been stale for years, you can point your finger squarely at World of Warcraft for that.

Seriously op? Your only realistic hope of enjoying mmo is with SoD phase 2 when that starts up in a week or so. I know, but it's not as if we have much choice atm. Gnomeregan will be better.

shilling FFXI, it's not going anywhere and has 10+ years of content to wade through (most empty, but still)
