Frick Seel and Dewgong they are the laziest designed pokemon. Gen 1 had plenty of creative and cool looking designs that werent just cartoon animals but rather monsters with animal traits like Nidoking, Arcanine, Gyarados and Shyther. But this is just an ugly ass regular seel. I know it has a horn but its tiny and looks like a party hat if it was a long icy narwhal horn I would actually like it but it is just a tiny shitty horn that they slapped on there for extra space. Dewgong isnt much better considering it is still clearly a seal but it is named after a species of manatee. I don't understand how people can even like it when a far better pinniped Pokemon exists in the form of the Spheal line and a better looking ice type in the same gen in the form of Lapras. Frick Seel and Dewgong I would much rather use shit like Cinderace and Quaquaval.

Don't worry, Seel and Psyduck seem like perfect candidates for future 3rd evos in coming gens, Dewgong and Golduck sit in the Primape/Bisharp levels of development and viability, Psyduck needs psychic and a Narwhal Seel final sounds badass.
It's weird seeing all the hate dewgong gets. I feel like one of the only people who ever actually liked using it
Dewgong was never hated. At worst it was overlooked, it was no one absolutely favorite but no one went out of their way to hate it. Most of the "hate" is a recent trend of being hypercritcal of everything about earlier gens, partially due to genuine attempt to reflect on the series but most of it just seems to be nu-fans and trolls using early gens as a scapegoat to make nu-gens look better.

Voltorb and Electrode have always been mid, so have most of the gen 1 mons.
to be fair, the entire gimmick of Voltorb and Electrode is to be mimick in Zapdos lair, minimalistic design suits the camo aspect of their gimmick

They're unironically perfect. Seel just has a trash english name and their stats are bad on purpose because you get lapras for free.

Their designs might be underwhelming compared to some others, but they achieve the goal of reasonably appearing to be an animal while retaining some design to it, and it's thanks to the work of these kinds of background mons that the standouts can stand out.
I happen to enjoy background mons and use them frequently myself, I've used dewgong before and plan to do so again at some point.

seel has a water motive due to the way it holds up its tail. i think it should only be one pokemon. i think dewgong is cool but could have been way better. yeah its a bit too bland for sure. the horn should have grown longer. its one of my favs now because i like seals and elegant things eh. saying that spheals line is better is just fricking moronic sorry. i grew up with emerald and that shits so ugly its unreal. (why the pig nose wtf.) theres a reason people only seem to like spheal itself (which is just a downgraded kotora anyway.)

Sorry but nobody hates this line, it is clearly not the most popular Kanto mon but it always looked cool and it still has a lot of fans. Gen 1 has no true bad design.
