If that. My ISP's a bunch of incompetents, and the IP's still reverse'ing as a company that sold out to another company two owners back, from a network hub 30 miles away from where I live.
          The internet's a fricking mess.

People in competitive games aren't worried about data theft with an IP, it's because people DDoS users if they get their IP known.

LMAO, all these years and people still don't understand that you basically can't do anything with IP's anymore

Like, yeah, back in 2006 if someone had your IP they could spamfrick you with command prompt and a batch script to ping you with huge packets, but worst that would do is make your internet go down for a little bit

nowadays basically every modern ISP has DOS and even DDOS protection, even for household IP's. On top of that, IP's can only be used to identify where your local ISP is located, you can't really use it to find someone's house unless you have a satellite in space and you can directly ping someone's IP from two locations to triangulate a 2-3km area where your house might be

Then explain how streamers get ddos'd, smartass

so you are saying everyone in that local area get DDOS'd?

            Anonymous

Yes, work at a small isp and when one of our customers was getting ddos'd our whole network was temporarily affected, but that shit is so easy to counter that we were back to normal in like 4 minutes. Script kiddies can't do shit with your public IP anymore.

but then how can bans over a website like Ganker even work if there aren't actually a way to identify your specific router?

        IP and cookies

so if you just delete your cookies, you can just ban evade? Lol I thought you needed a VPN at least to do so

            >so if you just delete your cookies, you can just ban evade?
No you can't. This is what morons what you to believe but that's not how it works

            Anonymous

If you have dynamic IP you just nuke cookies and reset router and voila you ban evaded. I even got "range banned" many times but then it took couple of resets lmao but it always worked. I dont get banned often its always for some corny ass shit like replying to roll posts so whatever.

My best ban for 30 days is that I reported Black person cuck porn spam thread here so some mod unironically banned me for 30 days just for reporting it while thread itself hit bump limit. This made me realize something lol...

        only morons get banned

        Anonymous

Specific IP bans basically work by shooting the target and hopeing it can't get back up. They can also ban an entire range of IPs though(ex: everyone on your particular internet provider), and that would frick you if you have a smaller ISP without multiple ranges.
There really isn't a way to identify your specific router. There's a way to ID the MAC code your router is broadcasting. but most if not all routers have MAC spoof option that lets you change that at will with useful consequences.

          Anonymous

I remember reading somewhere that even MAC addresses aren't totally unique. So wouldn't they ban multiple devices somewhat randomly from accessing? I guess it would be be better than just ban your ISP flat out.

          >so if you just delete your cookies, you can just ban evade?
No you can't. This is what morons what you to believe but that's not how it works

Explain why that isn't the case

            Anonymous

Random sites on the internet can't get a router's mac code. Your ISP uses it to "sticky" the IP you're leasing though. That's why sometimes resetting the router doesn't get you a new IP - your ISP is still seeing your MAC and going "well yeah, that one's leasing this addy, so here, quit fricking losing it."

IP Bans rarely ever work, that's why modern websites instead opt to profile your connection and your browser. Google in particular uses its ad service to make ad profiles and detect when you change your IP to keep track of you - but even a method that advanced can be defeated by just deleting cookies or using a privacy browser
