The problem with this is some creatures simply will not spawn below (or above) certain level ranges.
It's not a bad 'solution'. Forces a bit of 'role playing' by making player stats permanent, giving more value to enchanted items or buffs.
But it does diminish available content, not merely even "same shit but higher stats" like skeletons > skeleton heroes.
sadly, there simply is no easy fix for Oblivion. Its problem is fundamental and can only be addressed by tackling both character leveling/progression and basically every single enemy/loot list in the game simultaneously, or else embrace the reverse difficulty curve and only ever sleep when you feel well and ready for higher difficulty.
>it's all nondescript fricking grasslands
Not in my experience, playing it without fast travel. Plenty of unmarked roads and beautiful scenery to be found.
speaking personally, it tends to run together, with varying degrees of heightmap terrain. Rolling "hills"
It has its moments, but outside of the first moment stepping out of the sewers they are few and far between, and typically spoiled trying to climb terrain that is indecipherably steep because it is 99.999999% heightmapped. (I know skyrim was, but effective use of objects to generate proper cliffs helped tremendously, even if it all broken down with horses).
Sadly, it's just a product of its time. Lacking clever tricks to increase object count Oblivion didn't have the draw call budget to stencil traversable land with terrain objects to better distinguish biomes. So instead we got grass and pasted speed trees.
artificial comfiness, you're using a mod that lets you see out of the windows. I think it just puts the closest exterior chunk outside of the cell you're in iirc
i like the renaissance flair too but would never describe it as cool. actually, oblivion is even lower fantasy than morrowind, low fantasy means grounded in real life right?
Pretty sure oblivion is high fantasy though. It’s the color scheme and story themes that make it high fantasy. Skyrim would be the one that’s more grounded in reality.

Any setting that has magic as a normal day commodity is high fantasy, it doesn't matter how it looks.
it's modded, but even vanilla interiors are better than skyrim where everything has to look like a rustic hovel because muh vikings. thief or assassin playthroughs in oblivion were so much fun.
99% of the “criticism” on Ganker is just autists screaming that cyrodiil isn’t a jungle. But remember that oblivion launched on the Xbox 360 back in the day and it would probably burst into flames if it tried to load a dense jungle. >”Then is should have launched as a pc exclusive!”
And miss out on the revenue of all the people that just started gaming with cod MW? That’s why Todd is a successful millionaire and not you anon.
>oblivion launched on the Xbox 360 back in the day and it would probably burst into flames if it tried to load a dense jungle.
Funny thing that Crysis, of all things, had its jungle.
Not my problem that they uses the inferior hardware. It not being a jungle is the most important criticism, because it shows how apologetic you homosexuals are towards consoles and unoptimized games.
I understand why it couldn't be a jungle at the time
I don't understand why they have yet to unretcon it, this is Bethesda you take one look at Fallout they clearly don't give a shit about consistent canon they can change it back to jungle.
A remaster is strongly rumored too, should have been enough of a remake to add the jungle
No, it's the ubiquity of magic in an alternate world, first and foremost.
If medieval society was a requirement the Mistborn books to name something wouldn't be high fantasy, which is absurd.
>read about how Cyrodiil is a jungle in Morrowind >live in Southern Mexico, so the idea of exploring a fantasy place that would resemble that seems really cool when Oblivion is announced >it's the most generic fantasy Europe instead
Yes I'm still mad.
I’m not tagging all of you but if you really think that morrowwind is better than oblivion I implore you to go back and play morrowwind without mods and your rose tinted glasses thrown in the trash or atleast not within grabbing distance. The only good thing about morrowwind is dagoth ur.
gays will really start a 200 post reply chain of pure autism to defend a game made with the xbox hueg audience in mind just because the NPC told them theres a bandit cave to the south and they found a bandit cave after going exactly one map tile south
The art style unironically makes up for it. I am 25, my first Elder scrolls game was Skyrim. Oblivion is completely unappealing, Morrowind has aged better thanks to it's lack of realism.
>if you really think that morrowwind is better than oblivion
I really do >I implore you to go back and play morrowwind without mods
I have.
Checkmate atheists.
So much more creativity on display than in Oblivion. Anyone who thinks Oblivion looks better than Morrowind has no understanding of aesthetics and style.
I am posting them to show you oblivion looks better.
Come on anon, you can't really think that Oblivion looks better than Morrowind. From a fidelity perspective, sure. But the game lacks a distinct style and aesthetic beauty that Morrowind has in spades. There's a reason that Morrowind has a larger modding community than Oblivion. There's a reason that modders have almost fully created half of tamriel in it's engine.
By presenting a screen showing copy and pasted characters wearing the exact same thing, in fewer numbers, on a similarly disgusting blurry landscape?
Oblivion has better distance rendering, better textures, and certainly better character models, but so what? Almost any modern game takes that crown over both.
We're talking about substance - artistry, style. Oblivion has it periodically. Morrowind periodically lacks it.

the level scaling ruins the game completely but it's still better than skyrim
Don’t level up past 30. That’s all you have to do.
>all you have to do is stop playing the game
lmao ok tard
You can keep playing at level 30 buddy. You don’t need to be more than 30.
what if he wants to sleep
He’ll have to log off and go to bed.
Just dont sleep you fricktard
Most stuff practically hits a zenith around Lv20 though? Problem more lies in stat-ups and around halfway of that or so if playing normally.
You can beat the game at Lv1, even. Going inside that dude's nightmare can also spawn Lucien Lachance.
you need a daedric artifact for the main quest and these are level locked with the lowest limit being 2
Never had problems because I created new characters. Don't remember ever hitting level 30
>level up once to complete the main quest
>suddenly the game is fun and the reward for completing the MQ is actually usable
take the level 2 pill

I hate it to this day. Most uninteresting and bland world design in the Elder scrolls series.
This. Only thing I liked were the Ayelid ruins and only the first couple of times.
Uglier and worse artstyle than morrowind
Couldn't agree more, It's just deranged, not jank
I like the city designs but it's all nondescript fricking grasslands once you leave them.

it's not the worst and there's some cool parts but EHHHHHHHHHHH
>magic scrolls being casually sold in shops like groceries
skyrim is high fantasy too
nooo every game has to look like dark souls........
i know you are trolling, but where oblivion actually shines is the music, the comfyness and the indoor locations
artificial comfiness, you're using a mod that lets you see out of the windows. I think it just puts the closest exterior chunk outside of the cell you're in iirc
it's additional comfiness to an already max comfy game
I’m not trolling though. I actually do like the art direction of 4.
i like the renaissance flair too but would never describe it as cool. actually, oblivion is even lower fantasy than morrowind, low fantasy means grounded in real life right?

Any setting that has magic as a normal day commodity is high fantasy, it doesn't matter how it looks.
That’s not the criteria ether because if that were the case bloodborne would be considered high fantasy and not grim dark fantasy.
Yes, of course Bloodborne is high fantasy.
bloodborne is high fantasy, yes (when distinguishing between low and high).
for me it would be hearing this
Listening to* sorry I'm kinda sleepy
>tfw I made this webm like a decade ago and it's still reposted
I love Morrowind for being one of the few fantasy settings that doesn't try to be european/japanese/roman but is entirely alien.
it's modded, but even vanilla interiors are better than skyrim where everything has to look like a rustic hovel because muh vikings. thief or assassin playthroughs in oblivion were so much fun.
This was the first time I fell for Todd's lies. I still remember the hype and then the slow sinking creep of utter disappointment
The aesthetic was by far the least of this games problems
So do I, and to this day it's still my favourite ES despite the flaws. The music, the landscape, I could get lost in this game for hours.
Get some taste for Christ's sake
I like Oblivion. Mods like better cities make it even better!
Oblivion was the best TES game. I have only played it and Skyrim. Frick you guys' opinions.
same
if only they didn't sculpt the npc out of potato
It's not the aesthetic that was 4's problem. Except maybe inside the gates.

>people that just started gaming with cod MW
MW1 came out 1.5 years after Oblivion
The leveling system was hated day one, anon.
Nice headcannon tho
>complaining that people's criticisms hold no ground
>uses ad hominems
Black person

can't hate this game ,was my first elder scrolls.
do understand some criticism but the whole muh jungle come from morrotards
>i liked the lord of the slops aesthetic
Kinos with this aesthetic? I only know of Kingdom Coom.
Not quite the same, but I always got Oblivion vibes from Blood and Wine.

The differences between the genres is the aesthetic of both the environment and the themes within. You are an idiot unworthy of any (you).
No, it's the ubiquity of magic in an alternate world, first and foremost.

Whether you like the game or not, few games have given so much unintentional comedy as Oblivion.
I’m not tagging all of you but if you really think that morrowwind is better than oblivion I implore you to go back and play morrowwind without mods and your rose tinted glasses thrown in the trash or atleast not within grabbing distance. The only good thing about morrowwind is dagoth ur.

Morrowind is better than Oblivion.
A pile of syphilitic dog shit is better than Oblivion.
>it’s good because some homosexual reddittuber said it’s better lol
>can't defend his shitty ass game without resorting to buzzwords
No, I don't think I will.
The art style unironically makes up for it. I am 25, my first Elder scrolls game was Skyrim. Oblivion is completely unappealing, Morrowind has aged better thanks to it's lack of realism.
This is about %1000 times worse than the stylistic characters of morrowind.
Unironically looks better, has more artistic vision and is more memorable than potato-faced "muh realistic facial expressions" trash.
Oh so you are just a contrarian butthole ok got it.
No, anon - we morrowind enjoyers just have taste. I don't think you get that style trumps high fidelity.
>if you really think that morrowwind is better than oblivion
I really do
>I implore you to go back and play morrowwind without mods
I have.
Checkmate atheists.
>watch pic related over the years
>finally try the game myself thinking it will be fun like the videos
>it's boring as frick
Good OST tho.
You can’t be serious. You really can’t.
So much more creativity on display than in Oblivion. Anyone who thinks Oblivion looks better than Morrowind has no understanding of aesthetics and style.
I think you were born in the year 2000.
1998, close tho.
are you posing your screen shot as some sort of illustration of style and aesthetics?
I am posting them to show you oblivion looks better.
You refuse to listen or argue in good faith.
By presenting a screen showing copy and pasted characters wearing the exact same thing, in fewer numbers, on a similarly disgusting blurry landscape?

Everything that's not technical is worse.
Fashion is way better than Oblivion's.
All Elder Scrolls is high fantastisch, you imbeciles.
I liked it too. The graphics (faces aside) and the music are great. It's a lot of other things that bring the game down massively
