Same, luckily my 3rd go around my Mage Skeles stayed away from him and I could spam blood Golem to have aggro taken away and I could get shots on him in between summons. This game fricks still.
I've been playing it a bit lately before launch, it's ok. The talent systems and QOL stuff are outstanding. Unfortunately, the action, skill animations and atmosphere are really rough. I hope their big graphics update at 1.0 is a big improvement, because it really needs it.
I'll play it again, but I don't really have high hopes. The last 5 times I've tried to play it I just find thr combat to be the worst out of any arpg I've played.

does last epoch have a class where i shoot long, continuous ultra damaging lasers at things?

You can play without Hellfire. I've been replaying it over the past few weeks and still enjoy it. It depends on you though and if you have a problem with older games.
I've played a lot of Diablo 2 but finished Hell only once. The grinding is just too much. Every year, I just make a new character from scratch and go until I beat Baal on Nightmare and call it a day. Also frick duriel.
I played singleplayer Diablo 2 first. My run as a summon necro ended right in this chamber.

i dont think ive ever seen anyone take this guy on normally, EVER. people just spam portals and mercs until it dies on their first run

I didn’t play until LoD and made a werewolf druid and outside of a potion or two didn’t have any problem at all.

The only reason Duriel kills so many noobs is because he has Holy Freeze - one of the strongest auras in the game
