You can download an old version separately look it up. You can also just use Nvidia Profile Inspector, and NVCleanstall to update drivers. I've been locked out of downloading current cpanels for years now since you can only download it from the windows store nowadays and that is blocked on my OS obviously.

you can disable hdcp on amd drivers because amd does not have any dedicated hardware on the gpu to do the encryption so its offloaded the main gpu which causes input lag.
on nvidia however thats a different story.
on nvidia reference and aib cards the the video controller has a hdcp encrypter on it that takes care of it quickly and efficiently with no measurable performance impact and they had that since the nvidia 4xx gtx series on reference cards and board partners such as asus, msi and gigabyte also implement those.
while not a hard requirement for aibs most do it.

I installed Lies of P and on 1080p ultra it was dropping from 60 fps to 56 57 etc.
So I check the control panel abd it defaulted to normal power usage and to off for low latency.
Gpu in some middle p state at 1200MHz and 0.6v at 32 °C.
So I manually crank it up and now its at 2GHz and the game is stable st 60fps.
If I could I would beat the gay that designed the control panel.
Like I wpuld jump on his backbone.

Yeah I was genuinely surprised at how much better Adrenaline was than anything Nvidia had back when I bought my old 6700 XT a few years back. Moving back to Nvidia more recently was painful, especially when I saw how much worse Nvidia's own sharpening algorithm was compared to the Radeon one.
If only AMD put that same level of effort into everything else.

Nvidia drivers are planned obsolescence. Their GPUs have an advantage on the grounds that they tailor their software for every single game. It is well-known that Nvidia releases weaker cards that outperform the competition via drivers and software. The #1 reason people b***h about unoptimized games that isn't actually due to the game being unoptimized is that they never fricking update their drivers.

made the mistake of getting an nvidia card, linux has an issue with this particular card where the entire OS softlocks every 14 hours and the only fix is "prefer maximum performance" in the nvidia control panel, which linux does not have

Fricking hell, the whole point of the control panel was it was light enough and compatible with the basic Windows display drivers. So when your display driver crashed it defaults back to Windows drivers and you can reboot the driver software.
The issue was AMD was if the driver crashed you couldn't even reboot it because to see what's going on in the bloated driver software you needed the driver to be working.

They've discontinued it for me years ago because it's only distributed through the Windows store and I still use it. All they can do is no longer include it in the driver and again, not needed.

The software is constantly active. It's going to use more resources when you're actively using it in game of course, but telemetry, NVcontainer, and all that bullshit still uses a good 5% to 15% of your cpu and even a bigger hit on older systems.

I actually gave AMD a chance and bought a laptop with it then immediately got weird artifact glitching when alt-tabbing out of Persona 3 Reload. Returned my laptop and got nvidia again I hope they get some serious competition some day.

You can download an old version separately look it up. You can also just use Nvidia Profile Inspector, and NVCleanstall to update drivers. I've been locked out of downloading current cpanels for years now since you can only download it from the windows store nowadays and that is blocked on my OS obviously.

you can disable hdcp on amd drivers because amd does not have any dedicated hardware on the gpu to do the encryption so its offloaded the main gpu which causes input lag.
on nvidia however thats a different story.
on nvidia reference and aib cards the the video controller has a hdcp encrypter on it that takes care of it quickly and efficiently with no measurable performance impact and they had that since the nvidia 4xx gtx series on reference cards and board partners such as asus, msi and gigabyte also implement those.
while not a hard requirement for aibs most do it.
if it disables hdcp in nvidia and i can visually see it showing up as "not supported" i'm happy

I installed Lies of P and on 1080p ultra it was dropping from 60 fps to 56 57 etc.
So I check the control panel abd it defaulted to normal power usage and to off for low latency.
Gpu in some middle p state at 1200MHz and 0.6v at 32 °C.
So I manually crank it up and now its at 2GHz and the game is stable st 60fps.
If I could I would beat the gay that designed the control panel.
Like I wpuld jump on his backbone.

AMD spent 2 years from roughly 2015-2017 heavily investing into their control panel and asking for feedback. It is insane how feature rich adrenalin is these days (and relive before it) that half the shit nvidia users need multiple additional pieces of software for are all consolidated on the radeon side.
Yeah I was genuinely surprised at how much better Adrenaline was than anything Nvidia had back when I bought my old 6700 XT a few years back. Moving back to Nvidia more recently was painful, especially when I saw how much worse Nvidia's own sharpening algorithm was compared to the Radeon one.
If only AMD put that same level of effort into everything else.

Fricking hell, the whole point of the control panel was it was light enough and compatible with the basic Windows display drivers. So when your display driver crashed it defaults back to Windows drivers and you can reboot the driver software.
The issue was AMD was if the driver crashed you couldn't even reboot it because to see what's going on in the bloated driver software you needed the driver to be working.
So what do you think will happen if the display driver crashes? do you think the other driver which is installed with windows went to narnia?

Even if they include those essential feature, what's the point of having it instead of a non intrusive control panel? They're just making money off your data while the enduser has a lesser experience.
They've discontinued it for me years ago because it's only distributed through the Windows store and I still use it. All they can do is no longer include it in the driver and again, not needed.

You do know that overlay, NVidia filters, and all that shit just lowers your framerate right? It may not be a huge impact on a highend system but it's an impact nonetheless. The software is constantly active. It's going to use more resources when you're actively using it in game of course, but telemetry, NVcontainer, and all that bullshit still uses a good 5% to 15% of your cpu and even a bigger hit on older systems.

I actually gave AMD a chance and bought a laptop with it then immediately got weird artifact glitching when alt-tabbing out of Persona 3 Reload. Returned my laptop and got nvidia again I hope they get some serious competition some day.
Intel might catch up at some point but I have zero confidence in AMD ever fixing their software issues. I don't give a frick how good their price/performance is on paper if I'm gonna consistently run into system issues.

I used to update with geforce regularly and it would download huge patches and then say it was on the latest patch then one day I actually checked the driver name and it was the original driver that came with the card.
