I love these games, shame the story got a bit messy with the Mar stuff. I'm probably never going to platinum Jak 2 ever again though, just thinking about getting gold on all the NYFE races again makes me shudder.
As someone who loves 3D platformers it feels like the only reason this board fawns over Jak 1 is because it's nintendogaf and it reminds them most closely of their wahoos, or they'll go MUH INTERCONNECTED WORLD YOU LE HAD TO BE THERE IT WAS REVOLUTIONARY FOR IT'S TIME, as if that makes any difference to the quality of the game. It feels overstuffed with collectibles to the point where it's trying to disguise its lack of content. I mean look at that chaallenge in the swamp level where you have to destroy each anchor for the Lurker balloon. You get a Power Cell for each anchor destroyed, when I feel like in any other platformer you'd get one for doing all of them. I think it's a fine game (Finished it 4 times) but it's mainly good for techgays and bings I feel.
it's good because other collectathons are loaded with bullshit that isn't fun. >long loading screens >losing lots of progress >getting kicked out of levels >bad camera >bad controls >monotonous filler tasks like what almost completely comprises mario odysseys moons.
jak and daxter has no bullshit aside from the fishing minigame. it's a smooth fun experience all the way through with fun responsive movement, seamless travel, near instant respawns and good mechanics.
there were a bunch of cut powercells. for instance in the swamp you were meant to take the zoomer out on to the ocean to stop a bunch of drilling lurkers. these powercells obviously got moved elsewhere as less interesting rewards to compensate. the cut content is unfortunate but it doesn't take away from just how smooth and playable the game is compared to all its competitors.

I meant mascot platformers though with guns. Basically they got to look like toon characters. So Shadow, Ratchet and Jak so far. I can't think of anything else. Maybe Stranger's Wrath? Actually I think that is yet another one its been awhile since I played it.

Some games emulate perfectly but these games are really killed by glitches and emulator frame drops.
I noticed the AI upscaled texture packs have pretty bad looking UI. handmade HD UI textures in the works. I'll release them soon.

Been replaying the first one with my niece and the only complaint I can really think of is not having more health or more frequent health pickups
