Replace DaS2 with Bloodborne and I agree

Dark Souls II had a troubled development and many assets were repurposed, moved around or removed entirely.
DSII started off under the direction of Tomohiro Shibuya. It was going to be even more open world. They got a lot done, but Bamco came down on them and forced them to scrap half the game. They put Yui Tanimura in charge who had to pick up the pieces 6 months from launch. Bamco originally designated DS2 to be a PS4 game and then decided that nope, we're actually putting it on the PS3, which forced the downgrade
>Tanimura: Yes, this game actually went through quite a troubled development process. Due to a number of factors we were actually forced to re-think the entire game midway into development.
>Ideally we’d start again from scratch but of course we were under time constraints so instead we had to figure out how to repurpose the designs in our newly reimagined game. This meant everything from deciding new roles for characters to finding ways to slot locations into the world map. This unusual development cycle faced us with an entirely different set of problems and looking back on the project as a whole it was at times, arduous.
Eleum Loyce, Brume Tower and Shulva were all made under Yui Tanimura, they also got Naotoshi Zin to do level design, and it really shows

In short, FromSoftware are shackled by Sony consoles in particular since they're the ones with all the money and the audience to back it up. The funny thing is the only way to get a consistent 60 FPS at 4k in Elden Ring on the PS5 is to purchase a physical PS4 copy and play that.
OP here, posted the wrong picture, my bad
DaS1 is actually more refined and enjoyable but that's only because FROM had actually experience from making DeS. For a first game though, it's still impressive and a time capsule of pure unfiltered japanese genius/autism.
no, fromsoft was in full decline well before Demon souls was ever thought of
Bros I need help deciding
I recently bought a PS3 and was thinking about whether I should play Dark Souls 1 on PS3 or PC. I know PTDE can only be played with through piracy on PC, but I was wondering if playing on PS3 is better
pc PTDE with DSfix
Does anyone still play on PS3?
I knew someone who still plays it on Xbox 360
What Souls game has the highest population?
Either 1 or 3
They're called poke n rolls, not soulsbourne and they're all bad games, no matter how many people have been harassed into buying the game
>enjoy games for years, have fun playing and discussing them
>now I get to watch morons seethe as the butthurt goes into overdrive over the past few years
its the studio that keeps on giving
thank you, miyazaki-sama
They threw shit at a wall and it stuck. I hate From and the gays that gobble up their shit games like you wouldn't believe.
There's no "peak" in souls games. All of them suck ass. Literal reddit tier game.
From software needs to hire people who know how to optimize their games to run better, they lack technical talent
Dark Souls is infinitely better than Demons Souls in every conceivable way.
Demons Souls has:
The entirety of Tower of Latria which is cancerous as frick, courtesy of those stunlocking squid fans and the buggy as frick maneater boss fight
The entirety of Blighttown which is pure shit from start to finish, completely unsalvageable trash
World Tendency is extremely obscure to the point where a normal player wouldn't know it even existed
There are many more bad things about this game but these are the worst things about it. The Castle was Kino and the dragon fight was good as well. But on the whole Dark Souls is just a much tighter, much more streamlined and fun experience.
Tower of Latria is fun if your a mage spellcaster. World 5 is ok if you’re a melee character. I agree world tendency is moronic and locking things behind black and white tendency inflates the runtime
DeS was the first of its kind. You can use a variety of weapons, ranging from knives to swords to bows. Or you can use magic spells with catalysts and wands. You equip weapons and shields in each hand use the L and R buttons to use them in the corresponding hand. Now the point of each area is to find your way, in a sort of linear fashion, to the "boss" demon and kill it. Now, as you kill demons along the way, you gather Souls. These act as currency and experience. You can take them back to the nexus to buy upgrades, weapons, heal, or level up. You also cannot sell stuff for souls. Now if you die, you start all over. ALL OVER. Your souls are gone, the enemies have respawned and you're back at the begining. Now, if you manage to reach the spot where you died, you can touch your bloodstain and add all the souls you lost to the new ones you've gained.
Sony was involved with Demon's Souls development and they are responsible for cucking Miyazaki and From Software and forcing them to launch the game before it was finished, Shuhei Yoshida called Demon's Souls "CRAP, UNBELIEVABLY BAD" and refused to even publish it in USA and EUROPE, that is why Atlus and Bandai Namco had to publish it in those areas. He wasn't allowed to put the praise the sun emote/pose into Demon's Souls, so he put it in Dark Souls.
Dark Souls? Before FromSoftware got big, they signed a 3 games contract with Bandai Namco that gave a lot of power to Bandai Namco, which they used to push FromSoftware around and ship the games before they were finished. Elden Ring is being made under a new contract and now the roles are reversed, FromSoftware calls the shots.
It's possible that for this reason Elden Ring will rather just get a direct sequel over a dlc
Lol
Lmao
what the frick
This game punishes rolling all the time. What's the problem?
Demons was lighting in a bottle, Dark Souls was more of the same but refined and polished. Everything after that is shit.
Elden Ring is the best Fromsoftware game
>Dark Souls was more of the same but refined and polished
The invasion system is better in DeS.
Most builds in DeS are fairly balanced between eachother.
In DeS, unique items (Meat Cleaver, Northern Regalia etc.) are good without being overpowered. There are simple builds to support the use of these items. Whereas in DaS, some weapons and items were ridiculous. The darkwood grain ring that makes you do ninja flips is practically a requirement, because it allows you to fast roll at 50% weight limit, rather than 25%.
Poise is a good idea, offsetting the natural disadvantage to not being able to roll properly, but it's totally unbalanced by that one item - darkwood grain ring - because you get the best of both worlds.
Unique items in DaS usually aren't very good. For example the Greatsword you get from the ancient dragon is absolutely rubbish. In DeS, there would be a build focussed . This is down to the fact that the weight of these items is usually too high, and the strength requirements are also too high.
The different clans you can join could have been awesome, but it was handled poorly imo. Missed opportunity.
have any of you played DeS recently? It was good for its time but every Dark Souls game leaves it in the dust
DeS was more of a "test" run for Miyazaki. If you played Dark Souls you'll notice how MUCH of Demon Souls is actually in Dark Souls, but much more.
Dark Souls 3 was a reimagining of Demon's Souls that changed the 5 distinct archstones to almost 100% linear
>Both games have similar darker tones and atmosphere than Dark Souls 1 and 2
>Both games have hyperarmor
>Both games have single levels looping around checkpoints where you unlock routes, elevators and doors to resume dungeon progression
>Both games have a FP system for magic
>Firekeeper is an alternative/subversion of Maiden in Black, where getting the "best" ending to fix the world involves stopping her (and yourself) from fulfilling the role imposed upon, rather than accepting self-sacrifice.
>Eygon and Irina are Garl Vinland and Maiden Astrea turned upside down, with Irina uncaring of Eygon and following her faith instead of doubting
>Yhorm boss fight and arena is very similar to Flamelurker, including using Storm Ruler vs Hands of God
>Greirat the Thief mirrors Stockpile Thomas, both unaware of the fate of their family, that the MC finds dead
>The Firelink Shrine is structure similarly to the Nexus
>Tower of Latria is Irithyll Dungeon up to Profaned Capital, including Irithyll Jailers with special attacks like Mind Flayer and Gargoyles (not DS1 Gargoyles, literal Demon Gargoyles spawned by the Profaned Flame)
>The Hornet Ring allows the player to use the backstab and riposte animations from Demon's Souls
>The Blessed and Simple gem infusions mirror the Blessed and Crescent weapon upgrade paths from Demon's Souls, right down to Blessed regenerating Health and Simple regenerating Focus
>Lothric and Lothric Castle are an expanded version of Boletarian Palace, and you can access to the inner part of the Castle after defeating Dragonslayer Armor, an armor designed to match Orstein but controlled by the Dark, similarly to Penetrator, a demon resembling Metas
>The Spear of the Church as the Old Monk
each archstone is entirely linear and short. DeS's nonlineary is really overrated. Now DS2 and DS1 w/ key (Elden and BB are good too), now we're cookin
>each archstone is entirely linear and short. DeS's nonlineary is really overrated. Now DS2 and DS1 w/ key (Elden and BB are good too), now we're cookin
Demon's Souls has great level design it's approach is just a bit different from Dark Souls 1 because it tackles each area at a time. All 5 archstones are disconnected and each segment inside of that is disconnected, each one is tackled on it's own, you can't skip ahead and don't loop back because the progression in Demon's Souls is more linear. But the level design in the individual areas is really strong in all areas. Legit can't think of any bad low points in the level design like the ones Dark Souls has like Lost Izalith.
Demon's Souls:
>you must collect 5 demon's souls to put the Old One to slumber
>each of the 5 archstones is made of 3 bite-sized chunks, each with a distinct layout/environment and boss
Dark Souls:
>you must ring the two bells of awakening by traveling to different parts of the world, with no fast travel
>now you must overcome Sen's Fortress and Anor Londo
>now that you have the Lordvessel, you must defeat the four lords in the four corners of the world to obtain their souls
>Artorias of the Abyss
>now you can fight the final boss
Dark Souls 2:
>beat these four random dudes to open a door and bypass a small pile of rubble
>go through this castle and some other random places
>here's the king
>something something giant souls, something something throne
Dark Souls 3:
>beat these random dudes placed in arbitrary locations in a mostly linear sequence
>how are they different from any other boss? the lore bruh
>now kill this fanservice final boss
>Legit can't think of any bad low points in the level design
2-2
The core for these games has been the same for 14 years using the same formula we've been playing since Demon's Souls PS3.
At its best, the Souls series has very resident-evil esque level design with the entire world feeling like one big interconnected mansion, except in Dark Souls it’s on a way, way bigger scale, yet just as tightly designed.
In DeS most of the levels are just linear gauntlets with nothing too interesting. And because the game is so short, and the levels so few, having boring levels effects the game heavily.
>>beat these random dudes placed in arbitrary locations in a mostly linear sequence
>>how are they different from any other boss?
Disingenuous as frick
Dark Souls 3 is essentially refined DeS?
Yes, It should have been even more similar and non linear, had Bamco allowed to delay the release after the development restart
played the remake and got up to finishing about 85% of the game before getting filtered by 5-2. Deleted my save file in rage and now I have to do everything over again
>played the remake and got up to finishing about 85% of the game before getting filtered by 5-2. Deleted my save file in rage and now I have to do everything over again
Ring of Poison Resistance and Turpentine m8
Don't forget to mention that DeS was exclusive to the PS3 and servers were region locked.
DaS1 was on PS3, PS4, X360, XB1, Switch, Windows.
>only good soulsborn game
anon there was no such thing as a souls born game before that ya goober
I see I see, dark souls 2 is too mainstream for you, you're special!
das rite
>the only good Soulsborne game
There's still DaS1, it's not as good, but it's alright
not if you care about gameplay
>not King's Field IV
>From Software peaked here
nope, pic related.
>and it's the only good Soulsborne game
correct.
