Not a valid stance. If it's bad, spending $20 or $30 is nothing compared to the 60 hours of your life you will never get back. Playing bad things because they are free is utter plebian.
Unlike the first one this is more in line with FM2 proper. People end to forget that was released on PS1 just like FM3. Also, this remake is the only way you can play the game in English. Fan translators sadly never found a way to inject translated script into OG release.
Exactly what it says.
Front Mission 2 only has like 40% of the script in the game itself. The other 60% is in a text file that comes with the patch. The idea is that you read through the text file the sections that are not in english.
But the whole script is fully translated and you can play through it from start to finish.
>Fan translators sadly never found a way to inject translated script into OG release.
What actually happened is they were b***hy about people posting their translation on different sites, and used a weird format for conversion that ate up space. With some better coders it's perfectly possible to replace the whole script, in fact they could've done it too but the translators stopped working on FM2 because of drama.
It's for the best. Otherwise we would have got fanfiction just like with 5.
Hell, they tried that with 2 and the whole "ROID TOTALLY SHOWS UP AND IS NOW A PSYCHO WAR CRIMIANL" shit.
>Is it worth it?
Frick no!
Its fricking awful
If you really want to play Kino Mission 2, play the original PSX with both the patch and the script file.
played it for a bit a while ago and got hardlocked in mission 5 or 6 by the enemy refusing to take a turn
Also the difficulty was pretty ridiculous on hard
Gonna check back on it in 6 months
For 1 just get the DS remake, gameplay is the same but the sprites look better
For 2 you could argue that the remake is better, no ugly early 3d graphics and they shortened the 20 minutes long animations for every attack, they also made it easier for you to tell how damaged enemy mechs are on the overworld or if you skip the attack animations so you no longer have to guess if a mech with half arm hp has the right arm at 1 hp and the left arm at full
This. Play the DS version instead. The SNES version has severe slowdowns when explosions are happening. DS has none of that and has a fast-forward function if I remember correctly.

Melee for the most part.
Long ranged has its uses but they end up becoming sitting ducks once they run out of ammo. You end up having to fill their inventory with ammo packs to recharge.
You still need to keep health packs on melee units, but the chances of them destroying the wanzer before they get hit is more likely. You also get the ravenclaw later on which is pretty busted.
In any case, only Rosswell and Joyce benefit from going full Long Ranged.
Rare case of a creator getting to complete his work. Sadly, it also means you really must have played the entire series + that action spin-off to catch all the callbacks and references. Really, Front Mission was done after 5.
Front Mission 4 biggest flaw is that it doesn't excel in anything, FM1 had the best story, FM2 has the best atmospehre and artstyle, FM3 has the best muci, FM5 has the best missions and gameplay, FM4 is just FM4.
It's been more than a couple years since i've played it so my memory is foggy but
You basically play border patrol against the USN for the first third of it then you fall into the proto numbers who are kidnapping soldiers and mercenaries for some unknown reason, you then learn they're using them as sacrifices to develop a brain controlled wanzer (basically the precursor tech of the brain chip)
Anyway lots of shit happens and by the end of the game you've unravelled most of the conspiracy and you're sent to scout the Larcus base, you find out there's actual proof of it all but can't collect it yourself for some reason I can't remember. All the intel you've collected up to this point becomes enough justification to send Lloyd and his pals for a cute tie in with fm1 and your team ends up on the run because everyone wants them dead for knowing too much.
Epilogue is that you joined up with the setting's equivalent of the CIA for protection from the economic blocks or something.
It was never a meme, games were made for the hardware available at the time and optimized for it. If you put a fresh water fish inside a new fish tank full of salt water it won't be the same and will likely die.
It's not a meme and never was a meme. Games back then were made with the intention of being played on a CRT and not played on a monitor upscaled to 1080p via emulator. People just don't want to accept the idea that they aren't seeing what the devs intended to be seen and fell for the "FILTERS ARE BAD, NEVER USE THEM" meme
Because most people aren't using emulations to play the games "as intended". They're basically either A) using it as only means to play the games thy otherwise cannot or B) trying to make them look better. Problem is when you say "better" to a modern gamer he probably thinks 4K resolution and some overly saturated shader no matter what. Hell, Aspect Raidou exists for a reason.

I fricking love this meme I get way too much mileage out of it on /vr/
FM3 is just a MASSIVE step back in scale. You rarely have more than dozen wanzers at once on any level. That's both yours and enemies combined. Also, hot blooded anime protagonist just didn't sit well with people.
>Hey. Why don't we have 2 MCs and have the story PoV jump abruptly from time to time and ruin the pacing? Wouldn't that be great?
Goddamn. Who greenlit that shit.
I have a feeling 3 nailed it. Story just diverges into two scenarios at one point. It should've been better telegraphed that you were making a major decision, though.
>During the Civil War, the powerful landowner Carson had a beautiful daughter with an innocent heart. As Faye enjoys an intense sexual relationship with her friend John and her servant girl Sophia, the end of her innocent days draws near. The mysterious Lord Mark has set his eyes on her and will stop at nothing to get her.
Doesn't seem very appealing besides the oldschool art style.
I think I know what that is just from the description, kek
If it is what I'm thinking of, the King of Breast did the art so it's good just off of that
He did Langrisser and Growlanser, too iirc
Thanks Mr. Shill, I picked up the bundle because I never got around beating 2. I always get to the fight around the crashed aircraft in the beginning and stop for some reason in the emulated one and despite whatever downsides 2's port might have it's better than reading a word doc while I play.
it's got the DS content, some modern QoL features like camera, and has the original OST, so it all comes down to if you want the QoL for menus and shit or the OG sprites. The Amano art is in both still
the 1st remake (dunno about the second because I hear it's buggy) is overhated. It's basically a direct port with a lot of improvements but a different art style that I like less for sure
If they had the option for the original sprites with everything else it would be a 9/10 port with a point docked for how buggy it was at first (since been patched)
You can start 2 but you might find the big moments to fall flat not having played 1
and 1 is pretty good for an ancient game so might as well play it first, right?
it's fine, it's just dry. People complaining about 'muh MTL' are just mad it's not typical American SWAGDAB YOLO 420 he's right behind me, isn't he GYATT bullshit
Is this the right place to ask about that front mission mobile game?
I highly doubt squaresoft is touching anything in this franchise again, so I'll take whatever slop I can get.
they aren't going to do 3 or 4 now because Squeenix just cancelled everything not AAA right?
Seems ass backwards; their AAA games are SHIT but their A and AA stuff like Trials of Mana and Star Ocean 2R are good as frick
neat
bunnuy
Is it me or is gog-games.to laggy af?
I thought it closed down?
The guy who ran it had a mood swing. Now it's back again.
Try freegog.
How's the translation? It was apparently shit when it came out for the Switch and they've been patching it since.
Games free why don't you download it and try it for yourself?
Not a valid stance. If it's bad, spending $20 or $30 is nothing compared to the 60 hours of your life you will never get back. Playing bad things because they are free is utter plebian.
If you spent 60 hours playing it then clearly it's not a bad game since you enjoyed it enough to invest 60 hours in it.

What did he mean by this?
JP language is hardcoded into the game and replacing it with English is impossible.

>win 10 only
Rip Windows 11 bozos.
Install Gentoo.
frick hyper consumers, just playing the original.
>Is it worth it?
Frick no!
Its fricking awful

It's the same shit you fricking nerd.
no
play the original
played it for a bit a while ago and got hardlocked in mission 5 or 6 by the enemy refusing to take a turn

Gonna check back on it in 6 months
The first one has mixed reviews, this is probably shit too.
First is divisive because you have other viable options. FM2 not so much. Hell, most westerners never even played it until now.
Front Mission 2 is the first game I ever imported. idk about the remake, but the game itself is totally rad
Front Mission had a remake?
Yes, a shitty one.
Yeah, and then the remake got a remake and the 2nd one got a remake. I think they've said they'll be doing a remake of the 3rd one as well.
>and then the remake got a remake
Ok so which remake should I get?
The one on the DS probably.
This. Play the DS version instead. The SNES version has severe slowdowns when explosions are happening. DS has none of that and has a fast-forward function if I remember correctly.
For 1 just get the DS remake, gameplay is the same but the sprites look better

>no ugly early 3d graphics
Instead everything looks like its made of plastic and if it was a low budget computer game
And the much much better USN campaign.
Ds remake is the same Game but with another campaign too right?
Whats better a melee mech or a long range missile mech?
depends on the pilot
Melee for the most part.
Long ranged has its uses but they end up becoming sitting ducks once they run out of ammo. You end up having to fill their inventory with ammo packs to recharge.
You still need to keep health packs on melee units, but the chances of them destroying the wanzer before they get hit is more likely. You also get the ravenclaw later on which is pretty busted.

The original sure, the remake probably not
How does it compares to Front Mission 4?
>Comparing 4 to 1-3
Front Mission 4 is basically Final Fantasy Tactics by that point.
Well that's the only one i played, and i enjoyed it for what it was
What does that make FM5?
A fricking masterpiece
Rare case of a creator getting to complete his work. Sadly, it also means you really must have played the entire series + that action spin-off to catch all the callbacks and references. Really, Front Mission was done after 5.
peak
Front Mission 4 biggest flaw is that it doesn't excel in anything, FM1 had the best story, FM2 has the best atmospehre and artstyle, FM3 has the best muci, FM5 has the best missions and gameplay, FM4 is just FM4.
4 is the mechanical peak but also has the most dogshit levels known to man
Anyway gameplay wise I'd rank them something like
5>=4>2089>=2>1>3
>2089
What the hell even happens in that game?
It's set 1 year before FM1, pretty kino
It's been more than a couple years since i've played it so my memory is foggy but

>You basically play border patrol
God fricking dammit, why did FMteam didn't do this one? Sounds kino AF
when the FRICK is someone going to translate this
N E V E R
E V E R
>4 is the mechanical peak but also has the most dogshit levels known to man
It also looks like ass considering it's a PS2 title.
Man, i remember this game with full HD graphics in my mind, what the hell? I feel that the old TV screens making old games look better isn't a meme
Its not a meme
It was never a meme, games were made for the hardware available at the time and optimized for it. If you put a fresh water fish inside a new fish tank full of salt water it won't be the same and will likely die.

it doesn't look that bad in action
kino
I don't like the (lack of) lighting in PS2 games. It looks so flat.
Pcsx2 *still* has the shadow bug?
Why is 3 at the bottom besides the fact its the most popular?
FM3 is just a MASSIVE step back in scale. You rarely have more than dozen wanzers at once on any level. That's both yours and enemies combined. Also, hot blooded anime protagonist just didn't sit well with people.
2, 4, and 5 are good but in different ways. Combat will feel clunkier if you're used to 4 but the battles are bigger and story/characters are better
Did 2's remake have a physical release?
The whole series is worhtless.
Say that to Emma's face.
Has anyone modded FM4 so you can play each campaign separately?
No, FM4 doesn't have any hacks of any sort.
It looks absolutely fricking ugly and the character portrait is upscaled to hell.
In the FM2 remake you can turn off animations and still see the damage done to each part?
idk bro try the demo
yes
nice
This is not Front Innocent
>During the Civil War, the powerful landowner Carson had a beautiful daughter with an innocent heart. No idea about the author, I just found an OVA.
hahaha yeah that's the one. I had it saved on an old ass ipod with video.
The artist is a real baller
that's the one
it's notable because of the artwork, they used all their budget in the first episode so the second part never got produced
start with 2
Thanks Mr. Shill, I picked up the bundle because I never got around beating 2. I always get to the fight around the crashed aircraft in the beginning and stop for some reason in the emulated one and despite whatever downsides 2's port might have it's better than reading a word doc while I play.
is the fm1 pc release really just worse than the ds in every way?
that's disappointing, guess i'll edit my backlog to substitute that one instead
it's got the DS content, some modern QoL features like camera, and has the original OST, so it all comes down to if you want the QoL for menus and shit or the OG sprites. The Amano art is in both still

You can start 2 but you might find the big moments to fall flat not having played 1
and 1 is pretty good for an ancient game so might as well play it first, right?
Didn't it have a shitty mtl translation?
that's been patched, there's a second big patch on the way that I hope will be done when I am done with one
it's fine, it's just dry. People complaining about 'muh MTL' are just mad it's not typical American SWAGDAB YOLO 420 he's right behind me, isn't he GYATT bullshit
no it used to be literal mtl
complete with translating stuff like 機体 into aircraft
It 100% is not at the moment as of right now.
>t. am playing it
Correct, hence why I used the past tense.
so 5 days ago it was MTL, or was the Switch release earlier or something? Shit just came out
The switch version released october last year
PC WINS AGAIN
Is this the right place to ask about that front mission mobile game?
I highly doubt squaresoft is touching anything in this franchise again, so I'll take whatever slop I can get.
>Do business with chinks
