nintendo would never do that, that would actually require real effort and might become the next biggest gaming sensation due to how awesome it would be to play an incredibly fast racing game with 100 other players all crashing and exploding.
I mean, this is pure cope on my part, but maybe they're saving it for the Super Switch or whatever the fuck they're calling it. Frankly, I'm not sure that the Switch could make 99 3D-rendered racers and the more complex layouts of GX and have it look good.
even on next gen nintendo hardware i don't think nintendo is capable of making something that network and graphics intensive.
honestly they are not very talented devs when it comes to ground breaking new concepts, it would be such a revolutionary idea that would require too much investment and dev time that they literally wouldn't make it since it would have to be free2play for 100 players to work.
People keep repeating this but this is much better for the franchise than GX. I'm a hardcore fan now but gx was too unapproachable for me as my first game.
>I'm a hardcore fan now but gx was too unapproachable for me as my first game.
Gx was literally my first game in the series and I had a blast. What kind of meek turbocuck finds that game unapproachable? Christ I hate modern gamers.
GX is better but it's undeniably a casual filter. Especially when you factor in the machine slider and shit like fast turns and drifting requiring weird and esoteric inputs. You can't expect some ADHD kid accustomed to Mario Kart and Fortnite to pick up GX without getting pissed off.

some of us dont give a fuck about mario kart fortnite kid players
some of us just want the best game possible, even if it means a smaller audience.

There's nothing wrong with this but you have to view this from the perspective of a huge company trying to make money with a franchise that has consistently underperformed.
Agreed. It’s a good way to get people into F-Zero by the hundreds by being simple and digestible. I just hope they add more racers eventually. Would love to eventually see the entire F-Zero X/GX roster of racers
>Agreed. It’s a good way to get people into F-Zero by the hundreds by being simple and digestible.
This. I've never played much of F-Zero before but this game is quick to play and has enough random elements to make it fun for someone that isn't very good at these kinds of games. Now that I'm getting a feel for it, I want a less RNG heavy F-Zero game that I can play against other people. I wouldn't be surprised if this causes a lot more demand for a new F-Zero in the coming years from people that never really cared for the series before.
I was the opposite, my first F-Zero game was GX and I was blown away, I thought the graphics, the sound, the characters, and the difficulty were amazing, it was unlike anything I ever played before. Then I tried to go back and play the original one on SNES and even X for 64 and I couldn't, they felt like shit.
I'm gonna be honest. I prefer the way X plays than GX. The advanced techniques feel much more engaging to pull off. Some of the things in GX like the edge slip boosting are so hard to do it feels like RNG. GX would be more fun without the glitches, X would be less fun. So once you reach a high level of play, I find X better.
Also people aren't ready for this but the N64 controller is way better for this kind of game than the gamecube controller.

Elaborate.

The stick on the N64 is more precise than the gamecube. Meaning, you have more control over the full range of motion the stick offers. The gamecube controller is very snappy (which is great for games like Smash Bros) but its difficult to make incredibly minute inputs, the 64 stick is amazing at that.
The fatal flaw of the 64 stick though is that plastic abrasion that ruins them. If you want them to last then you gotta get a fresh pad, then you have to open the controller, remove the stick module, open the module, and lube the stick bowl. And pretty much no one wants to do that, so they play on shitty sticks.
Imo this is why do many N64 games like Castlevania 64 have poor reputations for handling. The sticks get ruined so fast.
GX would filter too many kids. As a game it would be incredibly fun to see it as a huge online race/death battle but I don't think people who just have a glancing interest in F-Zero would stick around and learn to play if it were as complicated as GX. F-Zero 1 at a surface level is really easy to pick up and play.
The dream would be a 99 version of gx. Though if they had to dumb the controls down to X level I wouldn’t complain. The high multiplayer count racing should 100% be a main selling point of a potential new f zero game. Make it a real death race
99 can barely handle the strain. it's very, VERY obviously faking half of it.
The other players are "assumed" to be taking a certain action, and it's updated by the server every few seconds to closer match what's actually happened.
You can see everyone whisked around from their presumed state and location to their actual reported one every few seconds. I hate that I noticed this, it's kind of killed the game for me. There is nothing to prove that when i slam into another player and send them bouncing that it actually happened to them on their end.
'dead internet theory' thing at it's lightest and least malicious. Playing against 99 CPUs that are occasionally given guidance by the actions of real players worldwide. It's just odd to me.
>There is nothing to prove that when i slam into another player and send them bouncing that it actually happened to them on their end.
What are you on about
You realize that when you let go of B and press it again, you immediately stop sliding completely, right? Like, you've done that, right? Because that's what you're seeing others do.

you have no idea what I'm trying to get across. Not even a shred. I am perfectly aware of how to recover from a nasty loss of control.
My problem is that my screen shows me slamming into opponents and causing them to ping-pong back and forth, yet this never happens to me. My concern is that someone to my left may suddenly ZOOP to a completely different location. My hypothesis is that the game is just pretending to be showing you what other people are doing all the time when it's actually just checking in on them every 5 seconds or so.
I'm not sure why I'm bothering to elaborate for someone that saw my last post and figured "don't you know how to play f-zero" was a valid response
I wasn't claiming that NONE of the damage you do carries over, just that the way it updates player positions and all that makes it literally impossible to have ALL the damage you inflict make it's way across the server to the player you hit.
otherwise you'd get phantom deaths all the time from laggy opponents smashing into you in between position updates

my switch is wired in, anon. I've seen the pulsing movements of the other racers in all the footage of the game online that I've seen.
You can even take it one step further: In the final stretch to the finish line you'll notice that the rank display in the top left stops updating and disappears from the screen BEFORE you cross the finish line, meaning that either your rank is locked in before the actual end of the race or the displayed rank is a fake estimation and your real rank is calculated separately from what you actually see happening on screen.

Yeah, I've gone from what was a very obvious 8th place (skyway and main track taken into consideration) into 20th thanks to that little trick

Nah, passed people at the last second and gotten the appropriate rank many times. Taking away the placement counter is just something racing games do to increase suspense and add to the intensity of the last few moments.

>Nah, passed people at the last second and gotten the appropriate rank many times.
I've had the opposite happen many times, too.
F-Zero 1 is the perfect game to experiment these mechanics on because it's so basic. They're really on to something that will not only make future F-Zero games a lot more fun, but potentially all racing games. The rival system alone is just brilliant.
I shouldve recorded the 2 times I crashed out before getting onto the track proper lmao. pressing down on the dpad to go further on the jump and accidentally turning left to my doom midair
I think it would be really fun to have a dedicated mode for playing as the bumper for the whole race and trying to cause as much mayhem for other people as possible to rack up a high score
you die and sometimes you become a lucky bumper. While you are one, you can fuck up other players. Moments ago just did the same and killed another fag, kek.
FUCK I keep somehow pushing A when I'm meaning to spin!
I don't know why this game has me fucking up the controls so much. I'm not normally the type to really, and this game's simple. But in the heat of things I just keep mistaking A as the spin button

stinggers are probably the closest thing but even that's a gross overstatement, there's no way for one player to completely fuck over a lobby like that

You can waste all your boost at the start of a race to spawn a shitload of red bumpers. I think it works best with stingray.
falcon's superior acceleration may combined with decent survivability may make him good on the late game courses with less health refills and more tight turns
Blue Falcon's biggest advantage, which also ends up being its biggest drawback, is that it has no real strengths or weaknesses compared to the others. The buff Golden Fox got makes this even more noticeable. Historically Golden Fox was one of the worst options and definitely the worst of the original four, but now it's incredibly viable.
I still haven't gotten a win. Placing in the teens and twenties is easy but I just can't pull to the front. I want to blame the matchmaking for putting me up against pros with double digit dubs, but in my heart I know it's a skill issue. And that's something I love about this game. It never hands you a victory, it always makes you work for it.
Someday it'll feel good, brother.
I played X. I thought it was pretty good. I want to get my hands on a copy of GX but it's stupid expensive now. To this day I still can't be X's cups on Master
>First heard of F-Zero from Melee >My brother and I end up buying GP Legend, no clue if we even heard of the anime back then >One day, my brother gets GX as a gift from someone, probably my aunt (it's now in my possession because he has no way to play it, if he gets a gamecube or early wii, i'd probably give it back) >Discover Emulation, played Maximum Velocity and had no clue what I was doing >FF about a decade, get myself a Gamecube for my birthday, get hooked on GX >Discover Climax and its English fan translation, as well as the X Expansion Kit >Rediscover Maximum Velocity and actually do quite well at it >Dig out the SNES Classic and play some F-Zero, buy F-Zero X and GP Legend on the Wii U eShop before it died >F-Zero 99 announcement >Cum
(I AM HERE) >Suck ass at the F-Zero Battle Royale
>never owned the SNES original, but played it at friends' houses and read about it in Nintendo Power >bought X new and sunk countless hours into it, loving every second of it and developing a taste for thrash metal >emulated SNES OG and BS, didn't hook me the same as X but still enjoyed and respected them even if BS felt a little off >bought MV on release, had a good run with it and used a website to unlock the Jet Vermilion but eventually just went back to X >bought GX and found my new home, played it for years >local arcade picked up an AX cab, but the cheap bastards never had cards for it >downloaded untranslated Climax and GP Legend onto a flashcart, didn't click and went back to GX >years pass, rust builds >F-Zero 99 comes out and it's like reuniting with an old friend who still likes all the same stuff and shares the same memes
I'm not gonna pretend I didn't learn about F-Zero thanks to Smash 64. The game was a massive hit in my school and one day someone came saying that he had just unlocked this weird mysterious guy called Captain Falcon and that he was super cool. We all wanted to play as him. A couple years later a bunch of us were at my friend's place, he had dozens of games and we spent hours playing lots of cool multiplayer games. We played Smash, Mario Kart, Soulcalibur and then F-Zero X. I sucked so much at it but I really liked the game anyway. I played as The Skull because I thought skeletons were cool.
Some years later I stole GX from someone and loved it so much. The main story was one of the hardest singleplayer challenges I had faced.
>Play Smash Bros 64 >Years pass >Pretty much only care about the music >Only play Brawl demo of SNES >Find copy of SNES FZero in a game store while visiting friends out of state, buy it >Other friend gives me his GX copy >Don't really care for either very much >SNES is boring, GX is too hard. >Jump ahead to 3-4 or so years ago >FZeroJP Twitter account rumor spreads >Decide to start looking into the series as this story seemed like it could make for an interesting YouTube video about the franchise >Think it over, realize that the IP would do well as a battle royale >Release video >Decide to try out X for the first time as I got myself hyped on my ideas >It's perfect. >Suddenly have become a real fan >Watch the anime >Fall in love. >make another video, this time about the anime >Get more and more active in the fandom >Keep playing the games. Now giving GX another chance. >Skills from X made GX more possible for me now >Enjoy it >Am now actively engaged in the community and clamoring for a new game >Twitter rumor that started it all revealed to be an elaborate Inmu Big Blue prank >Mfw F-Zero becoming one of my favorite IPs is all because of some Japanese Gay Porn parody fakeout
video >Decide to try out X for the first time as I got myself hyped on my ideas >It's perfect. >Suddenly have become a real fan
The order of operations here makes me want to choke you.
>be poorfag who didn't get an N64 until 2001, only have a few games on it >have wealthy relatives who helped out a lot when money was particularly tight >one day around 2004-2005 they decided to get rid of their N64 >gives us their entire collection of games with like 70% of everything worth playing on the console, including X >play the everloving fuck out of it >don't unlock the X Cup for like five years because I suck >bought GX for a friend as a birthday gift and played it all the time at their house but never owned it
I think I had Smash 64 before I got X but Captain Falcon was just some guy in that game, so I didn't think anything of him being in X as well. I played Falcon's source material a lot earlier than any Metroid game, Samus was also just a guy in power armor to me
>Grew up with X, loved it as a kid and the sense its sense of style/speed >bought F-Zero GX as a 10 year old, try to do the story mode but too hardcore for my retarded kid self and drop it >pick up F-Zero SNES when it launches on the Wii U VC, enjoy the hell out of it
>Got F-Zero X for my 5th birthday, didn't know anything about what it was. Dad only got it for me because he used to play the original F-Zero >Ended up becoming my favorite game on the console, played that thing religiously until the cartridge died (dropped while I was at a friend's house and it just stopped working after that) >When I was 8 or 9 I see GX on the shelves one day and immediately start begging my parents for the game, usually never got games if it wasn't my birthday or Christmas but they relent >Play it religiously for a long time, it becomes my favorite game of all time >Before I started playing it less, I also got GP Legend on the GBA and watched the anime. Anime was alright, but the characters were inaccurate as hell; and the GBA game is only under Kirby for my favorite on that console >Start getting into emulation, played more X and the original F-Zero for the first time >Spend the next two decades playing F-Zero, X and GX sporadically while becoming increasingly depressed about F-Zero being dead >F-Zero 99 happens and I've been playing that religiously
And that is the story of how I became a massive F-Zero bitch. It's the only franchise where I would pay any price for a new release, if there was a GX remake or new entry on the Switch 2 as a launch title I would 100% throw down the $460 or whatever to play it, no hesitation. Space Angler and Bunny Flash for life, Hyper Speeder, Fire Stingray and White Cat are cool too.
>played GX now and then circa 2005 to 2011 >single player and against/with my brother and a local Nintendo and Touhou fiend >pretty cool game, wish we got more >played 99 >cool game, much better multiplayer than GX
>rented X all the time from local rental place in town but never actually bought it >bought GX from Gamestop and played it constantly. Unlocked fucking everything. Spent literally days of playing unlocking the AX racers >haven’t played in forever >just downloaded 99 last night. Only done a couple races. Finished 5th at best so far but loving it
Ive been a fan since the beginning. But X is my favorite, I had a good friend who was my rival in that game. Id challenge him all the time, his main was Twin Noritta and mine was Captain Falcon. He'd usually win, until I figured out rail sliding, blost drifting and DTD and then I got too fast for him on most tracks. N64 was such a soulful era, my goodness.
I'm just happy we have a new game to play. And of course I'm still using my signature car.
I've only owned/played GX and I played AX at a con once. After playing AX I was determined to set up something similar at home so now I have my sim racing set-up configured to play GX using dolphin.
>Played fzero so young it didnt matter >Unlocked him in 64 >WHO THE FUCK IS THIS!!?? >Friend rented X and i came over tonplay it all day, loved it >GX is advertised >Buy it day fucking 1 it remains one if my favorite games >Trickle down between other releases through VC and the GBA releases >Downloaded Climax English this week >Fzero 99 happens >Planning a trip to play AX nearby
Life is good as a Fzero fan. ( And a Metroid fan, we're eating fucking good this gen)
>Had a Gamecube as a young kid, got GX at some point and was bad at it (but I thought the cutscenes were cool) >Fast forward to my early teen years and I was into collecting retro shit before it really took off, so I was able to get a CIB copy of F Zero for the SNES for 30 bucks >Had a fun time playing it, but didn't like the lack of multiplayer >Also had a 3DS with the ambassador program, so I got the 10 free official GBA games, one of which was an F Zero game >Tried it, didn't really like it too much
Then F Zero 99 came out. I don't think I've no lifed a game this hard since the Dark and Darker playtests last December and this February. I really need to get a pro controller, though. I'm getting calluses from pushing the joycon buttons too hard because it seems like the joycon DPAD is pressure sensitive, so you have to push hard to turn tighter. I've tried the joycon analog stick but it just doesn't feel right.
I played a lot of X round a friend's house and downloaded mp3s of the music from galbadia hotel to play on my MP3 player. I never played the original or GX so neither have hold any nostalgia for me, but X does.
Mainly the battle royale mode where you have to defeat every other racer.
>obsessed with GX as a kid, still sad our household got Double Dash instead and had to borrow F-Zero from cousins >got around to play X from time to time. Love it as well though I never "finished" it >Occasionally played the original and GBA titles. Fun for a couple of races but not something I'd keep playing in multiple/longer sessions.
>got a used copy of X on n64 when I was 7 or so >loved playing it even if all I ever did at the time was play jack cup and didn't even know how to attack >heard of MV on gba, asked my grandmother to get it for my birthday >loved it too even if it was nothing like X >saw promo footage of GX on that one dvd that showcased metroid prime, asked for it >even though I knew I'd fucking love it my parents made me rent it at blockbuster before getting it proper, again for my birthday >got a used copy of the snes original a year or two later, around the time the gp legend anime was being aired >my accumulated skill in MV applied well and enjoyed it even if it was lacking in features >didn't get to play gp legend until the DS was out >been waiting all this time for the next game, and here we are, rank 35, about 40 1st place wins, and two knight cup victories in 99
>I played a bit of the SNES Game on original hardware from an uncle, it was fun and I remember getting jumpscared by going off course and hearing that sudden that explosion
>Got to play X from the Wii Eshop and I mostly played it casually
>Maximum Velocity on the 3DS Ambassador Program, couldn’t get into it because I was too dumb to know about Blast-Boosting where you mash A while making turns and the game never tells you that unless if you sit at the title screen and wait for a tutorial to show up
>GX is the Dark Souls of Racing Games and I mean that in a non-meme way, lucky for me I had an Action Replay and used it to unlock everything and play the game with cheats, yeah you guys can dunk on me for not beating the game I can take it
>Currently playing through GP Legend and the missions and little cutscenes are fun to watch play out
>Dabbled in a bit of Translated Climax and surprisingly I like the announcer commentating on your racing and position, it’s so weird and crazy how F-Zero got 3 games on GBA while Metroid got 2, along with Kirby
>>GX is the Dark Souls of Racing Games and I mean that in a non-meme way... yeah you guys can dunk on me for not beating the game I can take it.
It's OK, I never managed to unlock all the AX racers honestly. GX has so much to offer, but because it can be so fucking hard it almost feels like it's walled off.
>played X at a game display at a supermarket with my brothers as kids, we all loved it. >got X for Christmas that year as a result >didn't play any of the GBA games >GX was fucking amazing, but holy shit it is hard >found and played an AX machine during a trip to Vegas >played F-Zero on SNES classic >playing 99 now
I played the first game when it came out and liked it, but I never touched the series again until I got GX. Then I emulated X just to see what was different and was a little underwhelmed compared to X, but since then I appreciate X a lot more.
I had the SNES game (and a bunch of other SNES games) from my brother and sister. I played a bunch of it but when I was like 5 and retarded so I never beat it. That was almost 30 years ago now or whatever. I didn't really play any of the Fzeroes. I tried to play GX but honestly I don't care for the 3D interpretation.
>SNES F-Zero was before my time, so I haven't played it much. Did finish all the leagues one time, but that's it >X is where I started, I think I was 4 when I first played it. Many after school hours were put into the game but I sucked at it until I revisited it years later. Still like it enough to say its in my top 3 for N64 games. >GX is where I became a full blown F-Zerofag, been playing that game every month for the last two decades. Still not good enough to do the crazy speedrun shit that I've seen online, but I did finally manage to finish the story mode on Very Hard a few years ago. One of my all time favorite games. >Also had Maximum Velocity on GBA but I don't remember playing that one much either >Anime is stupid but fun
I'm one of the many that are waiting for a 3D return. However, I'm really having fun with 99 and it does my heart good to see that both it and the franchise are getting love in 2023. Feels like we're finally on the edge of getting that game I've been waiting actual decades for.
>F-Zero
Got my SNES with Mario World but my cousin had F-Zero and he'd let me borrow it from time to time. It was hard as balls. >X
This is the only F-Zero game where I finally played a couple of years ago/2010's because my old man got me a Playstation instead of a N64, so I couldn't play a lot of 64 games until my adult life when I got a job and started buying my own shit. Very fun game. >Maximum Velocity
The first multiplayer F-Zero where everyone has their own screen and was a blast to play with the link cables. It even had single-pak so we could all play. I was the only one with the copy though, so my friends didn't get to enjoy it as much as I did. I thought MV was alright. (Kent Akechi chads, ww@?) >GX/AX
Bought it first day and I still own my copy. Like how Melee was a huge jump in graphics from the 64, GX was just an entire spectacle in looks and a complete package. The game just keeps on giving and it's hard as balls. I'm so glad I 100% that in my youth, I doubt I can do it again nearing my 40s now... I frequent fighting game tournaments a lot and during my couple of visits to EVO, I would always see an AX machine. Machine is very fun to try out. Be careful though, you might get dizzy. >GP Legend
This is the only one I haven't played. I was too busy with life sadly at the time moving out. >99
Currently addicted to this and it is my dream game. GP more hardcore than GX was a shocking twist to me. If you crash, you're out of the tournament, thanks for your tickets. I'm hoping in the future whenever Nintendo applies to what they did to 99 in the next new game. Also, a bunch of my zoomer followers aren't used to classic F-Zero and it was a shock to me. They talk about GX but, I'm just confused why they can't follow the simplicity of classic F-Zero gameplay. Do they really hate sprites or something?
Do you guys always boost through that one part towards the end of Mute City with the decelerating floor? I see everyone doing it but I'm not sure it's worth losing your max speed
>suck fucking ass at Silence time trial >can't break 1'50" >screw it, let's try the Fox, not like it can do any worse >still bouncing off the walls, but the boost is like a Ctrl-Z and undoes any speed loss >eventually land a 1'46" with it and score the snazzy background
Jesus Christ, no wonder I see so many Foxes way out in front. This thing would be a nightmare in the hands of someone who actually knows what they're doing.
>got four KOs in one race
I wish I could say I'm getting close to the 5 KO badge but it's so random whether I can even get one kill that this feels like I need to win the lottery
Any tips on killing a bumper that's not already smoking? I try to tap them to see if they're already close to dying but usually end up going past them when I do, so I can't take advantage of it to get that kill
I've been trying to master that myself. It almost seems not worth it because someone else will profit from you hitting it and you could end up being knocked off course. I would just focus on being opportunistic instead, unless you are moving at the same speed and can bump safely little in the melee opening of falcon goroh. Good luck!!
Thanks, anon. I wouldn't try fishing for kills like that in normal play when I'm going to win, but I'm spending my non-GP races doing for as many KOs as possible. It's at least made me better at spotting for that one smoking player and RAMMING HIS ASS before someone else gets the chance
For some reason I just can't pull off KOs with any degree of consistency. I figure the technique is just ram and spin into people as often as possible, but I don't know if there's a trick I'm missing or what.
I'm I the only one frustrated that Mute City and Big Blue are always picked over Sand Ocean and Death Wind? The only time I can play those courses is on GP.
Man, it hurts so much when you can tell the exact moment at which you lost all chances >final lap at Silence >get kicked by a wild goose into one of the mines, bounce towards the wall in front, miss the jump
At that exact moment, I knew it was over
does all the same tech from the original snes version apply or did they change too much?
complete newbie to this kinda fzero so I don't know dick about any of the cool speed tricks besides what the tutorials mentioned
also how balanced are the ships? fox and stingray sound like they're the best, but I wouldn't know
If you're good at the SNES game, you'll be good at 99, the game is very similar outside of the boost change requiring health like in GX and the addition to spin-attack. You also really have to be smart with your health as you'll be attacking and getting attacked through the entire race. Regarding cars: >Blue Falcon: most balanced, good for beginners, might get better when the next tracks are added to the game >Golden Fox: lowest speed but boost for days >Wild Goose: the bully, great to rack up KOs >Fire Stingray: fastest and with the best grip, but low health so you have to manage your boosts
Just pick the one you're most comfortable with, you should try playing them all since each car has its own rewards.
It's pretty faithful aside from having the X/GX boost system and other additions like spins and the sky boost. If you're familiar with the SNES version you'll be fine.
Stingray is as strong as it always was but its boost suffers, and Fox is a glass cannon with the new boost system so it gets good results if you can score KOs early on.
I see, thanks
I've been sticking with the wild goose out of ship loyalty (but more stubbornness), but I've been doing ok considering I haven't touched the snes version before
any specific stuff I should know for keeping general speed going? tight corners are pain of course, but I see some take them surprisingly fast even without boosts
finally having silence to practice on is helping at least, annoying how they gate the tracks for time trial
>any specific stuff I should know for keeping general speed going?
Try different methods of turning and watch your speed after you finish the turn and are moving straight again. For the most part if you can avoid letting go of accelerate you'll lose more or less no speed, but also letting go of accel for a fraction of a second to make your turn radius tighter doesn't take that much speed away from you. Most turns on the current tracks can be done without slowing down BEFORE the turn, as long as you make that turn wide. You can even do stuff like the Port Town II 180s by going to the outer edge of the track at full speed, letting go of accel, turning and drifting in the same direction of the turn. Only track where I have to actually slow down a bit before making the turn so far is Silence
Also boosts will get you back to full speed almost instantly, so if a track has one particularly bad turn that you can't avoid losing speed in, route out your run so you boost after that turn. Even on the Stingray you can afford to boost once per lap without being at risk of crashing out as long as you aren't hitting too many walls, so determining the best place to use that boost is key.
Finally, and this is the one that can't just be done in practice mode, figure out the best places to jump on the skyview. Some sections of the track are simplified on the skyview, letting you make even more time than what the boost speed alone would normally do, and the skyview will almost never throw you back on the main track without a straight path ahead of where you end up. If you jump in the right spot, you can either make big distance, stay on it for an extended period by having your meter end right before a bit curvy section, or both. For one example I like to jump on the skyview around the red oval in pic, and I'll get dropped off at the yellow circle at the end, skipping what can be a really hard section with bumpers.
>and the skyview will almost never throw you back on the main track without a straight path ahead of where you end up.
Except one of the very first times playing Big Blue, I used the skyway and overtook many places. When skyway ended, it landed me on top of a redcar, exploded, and bounced me the fuck out.
The F-Zero machines are packed with safety features. Sure there was the big accident but that only served to make things safer. Like one anon said a few threads ago. No amount of cash could get people to race if dying was super common.
Just keep playing, you'll eventually get a hang on where's best to boost and how to do sharp turns. One very important thing you should get used to is strafing, especially when you're dealing with bumpers, it's easier to reposition by strafing to dodge them. Knowing when to use Skyway is also extremely important, there are spots where you can extend the time you remain on Skypath because it won't drop you in curves so you can cruise all the way to the top spots if you know where to use it.
the nso snes controller is mostly for people who want a high quality replica of a controller they are nostalgic for, or collectors. if you just want a decent classic style controller get 8bitdo or retrobit.
>Should I get the Nintendo Online Snes controller for this game? Are the zl zr buttons useable on it?
This game does the same thing as nso snes games: it maps the screenshot button to ZL and home to ZR. For a spin attack you have to press L and R at the same time.
It seems obvious to say, but I really enjoy how the customization options make even the small selection of cars feel varied and unique. It's fun to put your own spin on a classic car and see what combinations other racers come up with. Makes the world of F-Zero feel populated in a way I've not really felt before.
If they ever made another proper entry in the series (lol), I'd love it if it stuck around.
Okay, Picochads, how do I get more kills? I too often go a race without even 1, and I feel that's the last trick I need to master beyond just driving better. Any tips on killing other racers more consistently?
Keep an eye out when you get near the finish line or right before a recovery zone, people love burning all their meter before hitting those spots so one well placed spin is enough to kill a few opponents.
Bonus salt for killing them right before the end of a race in GP mode.
It's so hard, I just feel like I rarely see anyone on fire, and when I do they are already exploding as I swing at them.

>trans flag colors Golden Fox gets a perfect 1000 >I got second on Silence >they were ahead of me by three and a half seconds
Is it over? Should I assume I'll never get my last Stingray color if players are this consistent already?
I am actually
The Fire Stingray version of that color scheme is white/cyan/pink, so I saw the white and cyan and assumed the third color was pink. Third color is dark blue on Golden Fox, I'm retarded
Probably a latency thing, you might not have actually hit them on their end. The tick rate in this game is apparently really low for a racing game and they're just interpolating the paths between >hit someone from midair and don't see them spin >they go flying off the course >only to make an impossible swerve back on
I never actually hit them
Not him, but what's the proper way of dealing with this? Like in Mario Kart you might sometimes throw a shell a little ahead of someone to account for latency. How would you account for latency here?
It has the worst acceleration in the game, yeah
If you see smoke come out of your vehicle you did the boost too early, but even if you do it right the stingray is just the slowest, and if you're in a starting area without a boost pad you really feel it
BR aside, I think F-Zero having an actual comeback mechanic is doing wonders for the popularity of 99. It feels balanced too, unlike the ridiculous Mario Kart items
It sure doesn't feel fair when I am in first and get onset by 2 greys, 2 red, and a blue gay, meaning I literally MUST let someone pass me because it is impossible to proceed forward and live.
I may only have 4 wins, but they're all honest, hard working Blue Falcon wins. I could be one of those 30+ win Stingray chodes if I wanted, but winning with that ugly overpowered ship doesnt count to me.
I've come close a few times on winning GPs with Blue Falcon, couple 2nds and 3rds. But Ive won a few 99s with Blue Falcon already. Maybe I've just been unlucky in GPs
Study courses. I started winning once I really started pushing which tight corners I can get away with fluttering the throttle on, and when I started committing to conserving my boosts. I have specific spots I boost on and I almost never compromise that.
After that, you want to focus on getting complex courses like Sand Ocean, and be lucky enough that there arent any 30+ sweaty chode stingrays in the lobby. The car is sub-optimal, so in the worst case scenario (equally skilled or better fox/stingrays against you) its pretty much impossible to win. Especially on death wind, don't even bother on that track.
I got second twice with Golden Fox but I suspect I’m using an inferior machine? I got 12th in a Grand Prix. Still don’t fully feel like I know what I’m doing. I like being able to boost with the fox, I like the tanky-ness of the goose and the traction, and I like the speed of the stingray. Only thing that doesn’t stand out to me is the Falcon. I also don’t really use the bumpers I just ease the gas for sharp turns. I feel like if I wanted a first I should have grinded more on launch day for easier competition.
Golden fox is insanely strong, its tied with stingray for best machine. You need to start leaning on turns, learn the fastest techniques for cornering.
Golden Fox and Fire Stingray are more or less equal on the current tracks, with Fox taking over on Death Wind and Stingray taking over on Silence.
Goose falls behind if you're playing perfectly but it's easier to recover from mistakes with it.
Falcon is just bad.
They only did that to Mario and they were very transparent about that. They said nothing about closing this game down. But even then, why does that make you not want to play? Its fun whether its alive for 1 year or 20
I just have a hard time enjoying things that I know will soon be gone. If I get attached to the game and then it’s taken away from me I would feel bad.
Or youre in for a bad time when you get older lol.
All things die, as they should enjoy the experience and how it affects you, commit it to memory and be happy you got to play at all.
okay, but there is ZERO INDICATION that this is a temporary thing.
That only happened ONCE with mario 35 and they said THIS WILL BE GONE IN A YEAR when it launched.
Now go ahead and tell me "i dunno bro i just don't like the transient nature of it all" even though I just told you that isn't a fucking problem in this instance
If you have a win in GP, you should only be matched with other GP winners. Tired of seeing ホモ-くん, かちだよね, and bill with 99+ wins in the top 3 every time.
Did you know? ALL KOs increase your max energy gauge! Yes, even KOs on bumpers! While they don't refill it like player KOs, taking the opportunity to gain some extra max boost from a bumper can give you a huge advantage, especially in prixs where it carries over between races!
it's fucking insane that it carries over in GP. I lost my first GP *BECAUSE* in the third race I was looking at my power meter going "holy shit it's still so high" and crashed like a retard
>Blow up >Have to wait 50 years to get back in another game because of a trillion animations >All while looking at the guy who killed you or the camera slowly turning to where you died
This shit is annoying. I'm already pissed off about dying, why the fuck do you gotta stay watching it for so long? It pisses me off even more. I just want to play again.
My favorite one is: >crash out during GP >don't press A immediately >get stuck waiting 15-20 seconds for the race to end while your ability to leave is locked out >have to sit through all the ranking updates and wait for the next race to get entirely underway before you can quit to the main menu
JUST LET ME LEAVE THERE'S STILL LESS THAN A MINUTE LEFT TO GET INTO ANOTHER GP GODDAMMIT
i fucking hate this >oops you missed your 4 second window to hold 'A' for 3 seconds, enjoy sitting around for 2 mins
Thanks for increasing the size of my energy meter lads. Please enjoy the first 3 seconds of my race in Silence and never stop using up all of your power before the finish line.

>stay up all night playing F-Zero 99 >next time I get in my car everything looks and sounds like F-Zero
I've never experienced the "Tetris effect" before but this shit is wild.
What the fuck am I supposed to do on the beginning of Death Wind to not consistently be in danger of elimination in GP before the track even starts? I always have to push myself into crash out risk to keep up with the middle of the back because I don't understand if I'm supposed to ride the wind without using L and R or go straight and hit every ramp. I have never made it to the final lap and I'm almost A rank. Is it the Fire Stingray that can't keep up?
Did you know you don't really want to long jump as the stingray cause he's faster on the ground? Meanwhile you want longer jumps as the blue falcon cause his speed is shit? Also you lose boost whenever you go up a ramp so it's not advice to boost before one!
Try spamming the A button to cut corners as the stingray instead of breaking, you should never go below the max speed.
>Try spamming the A button to cut corners as the stingray
I assume you meant B, but this could be a hilarious noob trap troll. >bros I keep mashing A in those hairpin turns like you told me but I keep crashing out, what am I missing?!
>Did you know you don't really want to long jump as the stingray cause he's faster on the ground? Meanwhile you want longer jumps as the blue falcon cause his speed is shit? Also you lose boost whenever you go up a ramp so it's not advice to boost before one!
Not him but I never noticed any of this before so thanks.
>in the grand prix >survive all my way to silence >doing fine >pinball out of control in one corner but not die >spent the rest of the race all the way behind >mfw
at least I got a new color for my machine...
>How it feels to get sub 1:48 in Silence I actually got a time of 1:46, down from 1:49.5. I just said "fuck it" and went through the z turn at high speed and somehow it worked out 4 times in a row.
That's the trick anon, doing a "perfect" Z-turn isn't worth the trouble. just go in at nearly full speed complete the first U part then slam into the far wall of the second U and boost out of it. I honestly doubt it's even faster to use braking to get through without hitting the walls.
I wonder what the "perfect" run is on Silence. I believe sub 1:40 is possible because i got a 24.54 lap one time, but i don't have the patience or ability to go 4 laps on silence without some kind of mistake.
This is the only "spiritual successor" I'm interested in, mostly because it actually mimics F-Zero and not WipeOut. I was annoyed when I missed the window to get the demo on Steam.
>mostly because it actually mimics F-Zero and not WipeOut
I'm glad I'm not alone with this sentiment. Literally every game that tries to fill in the F-Zero void back then just end up looking like Wipeout by mistake.
https://twitter.com/aaronmac64/status/1703806511330349303
Worthless. Why do these F Zero fan games keep shying away from making boost and health pull from the same pool? Also I don't like the cell shaded art style anyway
>"spiritual successors" for a franchise that can still potentially get games
Fucking hate these. Just feels like they're trying to cash in on a desperate fanbase.
They're often trying to appeal to people who think the current games don't have enough technical depth to them, but miss the point of elegant simplicity and that the games were popular in the first place for being easy to pick up and play.
Especially funny is that F-Zero 99 is right now innovating on the the genre in incredibly simplistic ways that could change everything. If I was making an F-Zero clone I'd take a step back from what I'm doing and try to learn from it.
What types of starting boost are there?
When you hold it all the way you get a quick blue boost and a burnout right after.
When you only press B during the last "dot" you get a longer red burst.
Is there an equivalent to the Mario Kart "boost start" I'm missing?
This game coming out reminded me about the Pacman one that's about to go offline, so I tried it for the first time.
Unfortunately, I think it's a lot of fun; shame I didn't start playing it sooner. I always just went to Tetris 99 to scratch this particular itch though.
I wonder why they're shuttering it; the servers can't be so difficult to expensive to maintain right?
Why haven't they made more F-Zero games? Do they think the racing genre won't sell or something? Mario Kart is much more of a party game and I couldn't imagine F-Zero ever selling more so maybe they're right if that's the case.
The first game sold a ton at 3 million copies, but each subsequent game was selling less and less and even pumping out those GBA games and the show couldn't save it.
Probably a lot of reasons. Gotta find the right dev team since Nintendo doesn't do F-Zero in house anymore. The team that made GX went on to make Yakuza.
I hope this release gives them more of an incentive to drum up a studio to make it again
Yeah, Amusement Vision was what they used to go by. They made the first few Monkey Ball games and then rebranded their studio once they switched to doing Yakuza. They're basically Sega's best studio.
>Whattt. i didn't know the people that made GX were also responsible for Yakuza.
Amusement Vision were in internal arm of Sega, who were later reformed into RGG. Nagoshi even said he'd be open to working on another game, but Nintendo never took him up on it and he's since left Sega.
Whattt. i didn't know the people that made GX were also responsible for Yakuza. That's awesome. Somebody shop kiryu fighting captain falcon
>The lack of ideas internally might also explain why they let Sega handle most of the development for GX in the first place
I'd say it's more to do with Sega also making AX.
Imagine if the Yakuza team made a new F-Zero game. >Yakuza-tier dialogue and cutscenes >an adventure mode with some small on-foot areas to break things up and let you explore the locations and interact with different characters >some fun goofy sidequests here and there >all the top-tier racing mechanics and feel you'd expect out of F-Zero
It would be excellent but Nintendo probably would never go for it.
People need more than just pure pick-and-play arcade racing to justify spending $50 to $70 on a game these days. Fighting games had to learn this lesson, too, just look at Street Fighter 6. I don't want Grand Theft Auto: Port Town, I just think it would be fun to flesh out some of the locations and let you interact with all the characters in more than just races and cutscenes. F-Zero has tons of fun and weird characters and a great world to flesh out.
>bro le f-zero should have le ebin on foot sections!!!!
No.
If it was just a little hub(s) to explore and see the world of F-Zero, I wouldn't mind it. But the "TURN F-ZERO INTO YAKUZA" shit that I always see Smashfags spew is absolutely retarded.
I don't want and actual Yakuza game about beating people up as Captain Falcon. I just want it to have the same fun and goofy but sincere tone and feature more ways to interact with characters and the world. The primary focus should be making an excellent F-Zero racing game, but couching it in Yakuza-style worldbuilding and character interaction with some added sidequests would be fun.
I don't mind it so long as the inbetween stuff doesn't disrupt the racing. Personally I'd like to see some sort of mission mode similar to the one in mario kart DS. Side activities that make you a better driver.
F-zero 99 thrad are the best one on Ganker right now >no consolewar gayry >no bear gay sex >no retarded GOTY discussion >no fromtrannies
just people enjoying a fucking game
Splatoon threads when an event is going on are similar.
>Why haven't they made more F-Zero games?
Oh Christ, it's a few things really. Whenever he's asked about the absence of F-Zero, Miyamoto always cites that Nintendo don't want to make a new game unless it can innovate in some way. So whereas most people would rather they just iterated upon/refined GX for the next game, Miyamoto feels if people want a GX with shinier graphics etc. they can just go and play GX (never mind that Nintendo make it fucking difficult to actually play their older stuff without resorting to piracy, but whatever). This means that without an X-factor to Hispanice up the typical F-Zero formula, they've no real drive to make a new one. The lack of ideas internally might also explain why they let Sega handle most of the development for GX in the first place.
This is why people are responding so positively to 99, by the way. Because it managed to introduce a few new features without just diluting F-Zero into Mario Kart.
Another thing to consider is that each F-Zero game has sold worse than the last: X sold worse than SNES, and GX sold worse than X, culminating in the GBA games no one cares about and the franchise going inert.
Finally, there's Mario Kart. When you've got one of the best-selling racing games of all time to focus on, why would you devote time and resources to a different racing game? It doesn't matter that one is a kart racer and the other isn't, you might split the base and jeopardise your golden goose.
I hope that if they do make a new one in the future, they don't fuck with it too much and take away from what made these games great to begin with. Times have changed a lot since the GC and GBA days. Even Pikmin is selling well now. I think it's time for them to give F-Zero a brand new game.
I just want Next Level Games to make another one since the Wii game was kino
Sadly they're probably not going to though. Mario makes too much money and they're probably gonna make another Luigi's Mansion for the next system since 3 sold shitloads of copies
Punch-Out Wii was great but I'd be fine with anybody making it. It isn't the most complicated series ever. It's been 14 years since we've had Punch-Out. Why do people seem to care about F-Zero but not that?

I guess F-Zero fans can say they've been waiting longer.
Either way I just want a new game already. So many options for new fighters and old ones that weren't revisited in Wii.

I think it's because the most recent entry doesn't feel that long ago, even though it definitely is. The other thing could be that F-Zero's demise was more high profile.
Honestly, now probably is the best time to give it another try. An F-Zero on the Wii would've needed to incorporate motion controls somehow, which would be a disaster; putting one on the DOA Wii-U would've guaranteed a failure and then it'd never come back. You could've maybe done something with the 3DS, but F-Zero's always had this allure of being a cutting edge tech demo, so it's likely a poor fit.
Switch is big, Nintendo is riding high. A highly visible, well-marketed F-Zero on the Switch 2 could do really well.
>The lack of ideas internally might also explain why they let Sega handle most of the development for GX in the first place
I'd say it's more to do with Sega also making AX.
>spend the first couple of races in a GP focusing on getting as many KOs as possible >by the time I get to the last two tracks, my lifebar is nearly double >able to win the last two races and rank first due to near-constant boosting and winning the battle of attrition
Would you trust NST for a bigger F-zero game in the future?, or they should outsorce the project to extenral dev like Mercury Steam with Metroid?, who is the ideal dev?
The Monkey Ball devs really were the perfect fit for the series.
At this point though idk. It would have to be a dev that can optimize games that involve a lot of fast shit happening at once. I don't really care what studio otherwise. It could be a literal who as long as the game is good.
I don't know any other games these guys made. But I do know they poured quite a lot of attention into this release, so maybe they've got the passion to do a bigger one as well.
The most important thing is that whoever gets it needs to have a real passion for the series, it needs to be someone who is gonna pour love into the mix.
They made Wave Race Blue Storm and 1080 Avalanche on the Gamecube and were going to make Project HAMMER, but that turned into a huge debacle and ever since they've only done the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series and various little projects.
>yet another round of grtting 1st or 2nd in all races leading up to the GP, then blowing up on Mute City
I just wish you could get your tickets refunded if you die on Mute City. This really sucks.
I crashed out on the first lap of Mute City in GP. Went on the jump and then got bumped off of the course. I decided to stockpile tickets after that so it wouldn't hurt anymore. Up to 34 tickets.
I guess I'll need to do that. It has made me madder than I'd normally admit. Like screaming into a pillow, pounding the couch like a child mad. Look at these stats. Most of those GP entries were deaths to stupud shit on Mute City or Big Blue. I can easily finish MC under 1:45 and Bb under 1:55 with goose, but I just flub like a retard in GPs.
I usually don't care about remasters but fuck I wish they'd remaster Kid Icarus Uprising. That game is great and I want to replay it but holy fuck it's painful to play. My hand was sore for days after I beat it on 3DS. I bought it used so I didn't have the stand but it should be playable without it.
DK is still recognizable to the general public enough to be featured in things at least. Gives him a better chance of getting another starring role than other dormant series.
Big Blue is literally easier than Mute City I, what the fuck is wrong with you? More than half the curves are illusions that you can drive in a perfectly straight line between.
Not for Golden Fox. Unironically the worst map for this machine, because it's not even a generally hard map like Port Town, it's just a map that easy for every other machine besides you.
Golden Fox likes short maps and/or maps with lots of turns. It depends on boosts to keep ahead, so it doesn't have enough stamina on longer maps to maintain its lead. Big Blue is a bit longer, and also features lots of straightaways that let the other cars build up their speed and gain on it; Golden Fox like twisty turny maps because it has high accel and doesn't suffer from having to build back its speed after turns.
Oh, I see. So basically half the curves in Big Blue being easily cut makes Fox fall behind and have to over-boost to keep up and that's why you crash out?

Basically, it's like a paradox. You have to boost to keep up, but if you boost you'll be low. But if you don't, you'll get gained on and your health will be chipped to hell by the crowd. I usually only get mediocre top 20 placements on that place, rarely ever 1sts, especially without the assistance of a skyway.
Big Blue is literally easier than Mute City I, what the fuck is wrong with you? More than half the curves are illusions that you can drive in a perfectly straight line between.
Yeah, and the slower, less healing goose also gets one boost per lP, without having your amazing healing. Just admit your favorite car is overturned. >GP win
Don't have one, largely because I don't play stingray, I play the character I like instead of the meta.

I like Pico better. I do have a far higher 1st rate with stingtay and fox, than goose, though.
Yeah, but here if you hit a wall with it once you eat since unless you have boost to spare, and stingray's recovery is so trash you can only use one boost a lap without risking death.
Oh yeah, there's downsides to be sure. But that's where the insufferable "you didn't win" shit is stemming from. Golden Fox wasn't even viable before 99 and now idiots on Ganker act like its some overpowered monster.

Golden Fox gets free wins on Death Wind, and is just as good as Stingray on Mute City. Its not number one on the more complex tracks, but its clearly fighting hard for that spot.

>Golden Fox wasn't even viable before 99 and now idiots on Ganker act like its some overpowered monster.
nta but the changes that 99 did turn Golden Fox into a monster. I don't think anybody is going to argue that it isn't a piece of shit in SNES F-Zero, but 99 is a whole different ball game despite how it looks.
Stingray is the best car. Golden Fox is second, tied with goose. Then theres a powergap before Falcon. Stingray is the fastest car and turns the best, if you get a lead and dont mess up, you will win. To gove you an idea of how much better it is, I main Blue Falcon, its my favorite car. I have 5 wins with it, and about 160 races in that car. I got 2 wins within 10 races as soon as I started using Stingray. Its insanely better than the other cars.
>every track except Death Wind >cross the starting line >boost through the pit zone
I hate that this meta is so effective, it makes the start to each race so boring. Pile into the pit or simply be left behind forever.
I noticed people doing this, but I didn't think it made any difference so I always just go straight, though it's probably best to follow everyone else and pick up sparks that way too.
It's incredibly effective. >more spark collection because everyone's crowding into each other >literally free boost because you recover almost 100% of the energy spent
If you avoid the pit at the start you'll literally just start the race with less speed, fewer total boosts, and less Super Boost meter filled.
Its fine. The start to the race is almost irrelevant anyways. Oftentimes it is optimal to be around 10 or 15th place to slurp up sparks for the first lap and then skill your way to first
>Oftentimes it is optimal to be around 10 or 15th place to slurp up sparks for the first lap
With everyone crowding and bumping in the pit at the start you get more sparks by following them there, too. Avoiding the pit at the start genuinely reduces your overall meter-building potential.
>having to claw grip for boost
The Gamecube controller is literally designed for pressing A at the same time as Y or X with only your thumb because of the shape of the buttons and how close Y and X are to A. Are you literally putting the tip of your thumb on the A button? You should be pressing A with the pad or even knuckle of your thumb so the tip of it overlaps with Y and pressing Y is just a matter of rocking your thumb a bit. No claw grip needed.
No, he's literally not even touching the pink Stingray, see the screenshot. From here he rams HIMSELF into the wall and the pink Stingray blows up on the other side of the track after touching a DIFFERENT car but he gets credit for the KO anyway for no reason.

actually yeah i have no idea how that played out, looking back on it the guy i rammed into first was the same guy i KO'd at the very end, no idea how i got credit for the 1st kill then, maybe the guy i boosted into got knocked into him and somehow that gave me the credit?
I thinking boosting into people does more damage than regular bumping, so that probably helped with the first couple, but more than anything it was just the end of Mute City in a GP so everyone probably had boosted down to 1 HP.

Finally won a game last night with the Wild Goose.
and i thought starfoxfags were the the most desperate community in the world...
We have not had a new game in 19 years.
I love it, but it should have been GX style not F-Zero 1 style.
that would have taken actual effort to make
Nah F-Zero works better.
Unless all you want is a GX port or remaster, you greatly overestimate the abilities of the Switch if you expect GX 99.
nintendo would never do that, that would actually require real effort and might become the next biggest gaming sensation due to how awesome it would be to play an incredibly fast racing game with 100 other players all crashing and exploding.
fuck it sounds so amazing
I mean, this is pure cope on my part, but maybe they're saving it for the Super Switch or whatever the fuck they're calling it. Frankly, I'm not sure that the Switch could make 99 3D-rendered racers and the more complex layouts of GX and have it look good.
There's no need for that. Just a good looking X is good enough.
even on next gen nintendo hardware i don't think nintendo is capable of making something that network and graphics intensive.
honestly they are not very talented devs when it comes to ground breaking new concepts, it would be such a revolutionary idea that would require too much investment and dev time that they literally wouldn't make it since it would have to be free2play for 100 players to work.
>People keep repeating this
Because its the truth.
GX is better but it's undeniably a casual filter. Especially when you factor in the machine slider and shit like fast turns and drifting requiring weird and esoteric inputs. You can't expect some ADHD kid accustomed to Mario Kart and Fortnite to pick up GX without getting pissed off.
some of us dont give a fuck about mario kart fortnite kid players
some of us just want the best game possible, even if it means a smaller audience.
>some of us just want the best game possible, even if it means a smaller audience.
There's nothing wrong with this but you have to view this from the perspective of a huge company trying to make money with a franchise that has consistently underperformed.
Agreed. It’s a good way to get people into F-Zero by the hundreds by being simple and digestible. I just hope they add more racers eventually. Would love to eventually see the entire F-Zero X/GX roster of racers
would love to see them do something potentially more chaotic like Super Mario Kart 99 or Diddy Kong Racing 99
The sticks get ruined so fast.
yeah GX 99 would just prove there's no interest in F-Zero since it wouldn't maintain even a tenth of the players F-Zero 99 can.
do you think the switch can handle 99 actual models?
He's talking about latency.
Anon, this game is using dedicated servers.
If you bump someone, they'll get bumped.
people were snipping streamers gays.
I wasn't claiming that NONE of the damage you do carries over, just that the way it updates player positions and all that makes it literally impossible to have ALL the damage you inflict make it's way across the server to the player you hit.
otherwise you'd get phantom deaths all the time from laggy opponents smashing into you in between position updates
show me a webm with your internet signal in game.
my switch is wired in, anon.
It should have been like X
second
F-Zero 1 is the perfect game to experiment these mechanics on because it's so basic. They're really on to something that will not only make future F-Zero games a lot more fun, but potentially all racing games. The rival system alone is just brilliant.
At least F-Zero fans are having fun
I'm having a blast with this game, I don't care what anyone says. It feels incredibly faithful to the spirit of F-Zero.
>got killed near the end of a race by that dicky-UOH guy
damn machine...needs goose correction
Glad to see another 1st place 99bstingray user.
Post webms of people fucking up tremendously
Just find this.
?si=FN6Q_kjRqwZfI4cq
Poor Falcon.
Fuck.
*Poor Goroh.
That's fuckin nasty.
This happens regularly. I know because it happened to me two times. Kek.
The best part is that he still would have won if he hadn't boosted while bouncing.
I'm one of those rivals, I ended up winning this GP
I shouldve recorded the 2 times I crashed out before getting onto the track proper lmao. pressing down on the dpad to go further on the jump and accidentally turning left to my doom midair
I think it would be really fun to have a dedicated mode for playing as the bumper for the whole race and trying to cause as much mayhem for other people as possible to rack up a high score
go fuck yourself REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
wait what the fuck THIS IS A THING???
HOW?
you die and sometimes you become a lucky bumper. While you are one, you can fuck up other players. Moments ago just did the same and killed another fag, kek.
>Fucking up tremendously
>Fucking others up tremendously
>Fucking up tremendously AND fucking up others tremendously
God, I did the same thing to another Falcon for my third first, difference being I was the one that came from the Skyway
Got a fresh one for you. I'm too used to the traditional method of ending a race in GX.
FUCK I keep somehow pushing A when I'm meaning to spin!
I don't know why this game has me fucking up the controls so much. I'm not normally the type to really, and this game's simple. But in the heat of things I just keep mistaking A as the spin button
yeah, remapping the controls whould be a nice feature
Just remap in the main Switch menu.
Tell me about it. I haven’t completed a Grand Prix because I ended up putting my console into sleep mode three times on the last races! Fml
Does it have the equivalent of starni- uh stargents?
stinggers are probably the closest thing but even that's a gross overstatement, there's no way for one player to completely fuck over a lobby like that
You can waste all your boost at the start of a race to spawn a shitload of red bumpers. I think it works best with stingray.
I might be a shitter but is the Blue Falcon just shit?
All four ships are good
falcon's superior acceleration may combined with decent survivability may make him good on the late game courses with less health refills and more tight turns
I wish to be FAST but I must work.
Someday it'll feel good, brother.
godspeed anon I believe in u
I reached rank A and still haven't won a race. I got 2nd three times and i end in the top 10 most of the time but i can't clutch a win.
Same, I'm almost out of B+ and still winless.
That's where I am too. I accept that I'm currently a B+ driver but also I love the game and enjoy sticking to Falcon.
What's your F-Zero history Ganker?
>Got the SNES game as a hand-me-down from a cousin, had never heard of it prior. The music is still embedded into my brain
>Emulated X
>Skipped Maximum Velocity although a friend owned it
>Bought GX and fucking loved it, to the point where I got all the character endings
>GP Legend felt like a decent stop gap before the next major game
>Spent the Wii/Wii U/Switch eras grieving the franchise until 99
I played X. I thought it was pretty good. I want to get my hands on a copy of GX but it's stupid expensive now. To this day I still can't be X's cups on Master
>First heard of F-Zero from Melee
>My brother and I end up buying GP Legend, no clue if we even heard of the anime back then
>One day, my brother gets GX as a gift from someone, probably my aunt (it's now in my possession because he has no way to play it, if he gets a gamecube or early wii, i'd probably give it back)
>Discover Emulation, played Maximum Velocity and had no clue what I was doing
>FF about a decade, get myself a Gamecube for my birthday, get hooked on GX
>Discover Climax and its English fan translation, as well as the X Expansion Kit
>Rediscover Maximum Velocity and actually do quite well at it
>Dig out the SNES Classic and play some F-Zero, buy F-Zero X and GP Legend on the Wii U eShop before it died
>F-Zero 99 announcement
>Cum
(I AM HERE)
>Suck ass at the F-Zero Battle Royale
>never owned the SNES original, but played it at friends' houses and read about it in Nintendo Power
>bought X new and sunk countless hours into it, loving every second of it and developing a taste for thrash metal
>emulated SNES OG and BS, didn't hook me the same as X but still enjoyed and respected them even if BS felt a little off
>bought MV on release, had a good run with it and used a website to unlock the Jet Vermilion but eventually just went back to X
>bought GX and found my new home, played it for years
>local arcade picked up an AX cab, but the cheap bastards never had cards for it
>downloaded untranslated Climax and GP Legend onto a flashcart, didn't click and went back to GX
>years pass, rust builds
>F-Zero 99 comes out and it's like reuniting with an old friend who still likes all the same stuff and shares the same memes
>Play Smash Bros 64
>Years pass
>Pretty much only care about the music
>Only play Brawl demo of SNES
>Find copy of SNES FZero in a game store while visiting friends out of state, buy it
>Other friend gives me his GX copy
>Don't really care for either very much
>SNES is boring, GX is too hard.
>Jump ahead to 3-4 or so years ago
>FZeroJP Twitter account rumor spreads
>Decide to start looking into the series as this story seemed like it could make for an interesting YouTube video about the franchise
>Think it over, realize that the IP would do well as a battle royale
>Release video
>Decide to try out X for the first time as I got myself hyped on my ideas
>It's perfect.
>Suddenly have become a real fan
>Watch the anime
>Fall in love.
>make another video, this time about the anime
>Get more and more active in the fandom
>Keep playing the games. Now giving GX another chance.
>Skills from X made GX more possible for me now
>Enjoy it
>Am now actively engaged in the community and clamoring for a new game
>Twitter rumor that started it all revealed to be an elaborate Inmu Big Blue prank
>Mfw F-Zero becoming one of my favorite IPs is all because of some Japanese Gay Porn parody fakeout
video
>Decide to try out X for the first time as I got myself hyped on my ideas
>It's perfect.
>Suddenly have become a real fan
The order of operations here makes me want to choke you.
>be poorfag who didn't get an N64 until 2001, only have a few games on it
>have wealthy relatives who helped out a lot when money was particularly tight
>one day around 2004-2005 they decided to get rid of their N64
>gives us their entire collection of games with like 70% of everything worth playing on the console, including X
>play the everloving fuck out of it
>don't unlock the X Cup for like five years because I suck
>bought GX for a friend as a birthday gift and played it all the time at their house but never owned it
I think I had Smash 64 before I got X but Captain Falcon was just some guy in that game, so I didn't think anything of him being in X as well. I played Falcon's source material a lot earlier than any Metroid game, Samus was also just a guy in power armor to me
>Grew up with X, loved it as a kid and the sense its sense of style/speed
>bought F-Zero GX as a 10 year old, try to do the story mode but too hardcore for my retarded kid self and drop it
>pick up F-Zero SNES when it launches on the Wii U VC, enjoy the hell out of it
I need to go back and 100% GX
>Got F-Zero X for my 5th birthday, didn't know anything about what it was. Dad only got it for me because he used to play the original F-Zero
>Ended up becoming my favorite game on the console, played that thing religiously until the cartridge died (dropped while I was at a friend's house and it just stopped working after that)
>When I was 8 or 9 I see GX on the shelves one day and immediately start begging my parents for the game, usually never got games if it wasn't my birthday or Christmas but they relent
>Play it religiously for a long time, it becomes my favorite game of all time
>Before I started playing it less, I also got GP Legend on the GBA and watched the anime. Anime was alright, but the characters were inaccurate as hell; and the GBA game is only under Kirby for my favorite on that console
>Start getting into emulation, played more X and the original F-Zero for the first time
>Spend the next two decades playing F-Zero, X and GX sporadically while becoming increasingly depressed about F-Zero being dead
>F-Zero 99 happens and I've been playing that religiously
And that is the story of how I became a massive F-Zero bitch. It's the only franchise where I would pay any price for a new release, if there was a GX remake or new entry on the Switch 2 as a launch title I would 100% throw down the $460 or whatever to play it, no hesitation.
Space Angler and Bunny Flash for life, Hyper Speeder, Fire Stingray and White Cat are cool too.
>rented f-zero snes in 1991 early.
>rented f-zero x
>emulated f-zero and X
>bought gx in 2004
>emulated gba f-zero
>played GX now and then circa 2005 to 2011 >single player and against/with my brother and a local Nintendo and Touhou fiend
>pretty cool game, wish we got more
>played 99
>cool game, much better multiplayer than GX
>rented X all the time from local rental place in town but never actually bought it
>bought GX from Gamestop and played it constantly. Unlocked fucking everything. Spent literally days of playing unlocking the AX racers
>haven’t played in forever
>just downloaded 99 last night.
>Played fzero so young it didnt matter
>Unlocked him in 64
>WHO THE FUCK IS THIS!!??
>Friend rented X and i came over tonplay it all day, loved it
>GX is advertised
>Buy it day fucking 1 it remains one if my favorite games
>Trickle down between other releases through VC and the GBA releases
>Downloaded Climax English this week
>Fzero 99 happens
>Planning a trip to play AX nearby
Life is good as a Fzero fan. ( And a Metroid fan, we're eating fucking good this gen)
>Had a Gamecube as a young kid, got GX at some point and was bad at it (but I thought the cutscenes were cool)
>Fast forward to my early teen years and I was into collecting retro shit before it really took off, so I was able to get a CIB copy of F Zero for the SNES for 30 bucks
>Had a fun time playing it, but didn't like the lack of multiplayer
>Also had a 3DS with the ambassador program, so I got the 10 free official GBA games, one of which was an F Zero game
>Tried it, didn't really like it too much
Then F Zero 99 came out. I've tried the joycon analog stick but it just doesn't feel right.
>filename

>F-Zero SNES was one of the first video games I ever played
>played it a pretty good bit as a kid
>
That’s it
I played a lot of X round a friend's house and downloaded mp3s of the music from galbadia hotel to play on my MP3 player. I never played the original or GX so neither have hold any nostalgia for me, but X does.
Mainly the battle royale mode where you have to defeat every other racer.
>obsessed with GX as a kid, still sad our household got Double Dash instead and had to borrow F-Zero from cousins
>got around to play X from time to time. Love it as well though I never "finished" it
>Occasionally played the original and GBA titles. Fun for a couple of races but not something I'd keep playing in multiple/longer sessions.
>got a used copy of X on n64 when I was 7 or so
>loved playing it even if all I ever did at the time was play jack cup and didn't even know how to attack
>heard of MV on gba, asked my grandmother to get it for my birthday
>loved it too even if it was nothing like X
>saw promo footage of GX on that one dvd that showcased metroid prime, asked for it
>even though I knew I'd fucking love it my parents made me rent it at blockbuster before getting it proper, again for my birthday
>got a used copy of the snes original a year or two later, around the time the gp legend anime was being aired
>my accumulated skill in MV applied well and enjoyed it even if it was lacking in features
>didn't get to play gp legend until the DS was out
>been waiting all this time for the next game, and here we are, rank 35, about 40 1st place wins, and two knight cup victories in 99
>I played a bit of the SNES Game on original hardware from an uncle, it was fun and I remember getting jumpscared by going off course and hearing that sudden that explosion
GX has so much to offer, but because it can be so fucking hard it almost feels like it's walled off.
>played X at a game display at a supermarket with my brothers as kids, we all loved it.
>got X for Christmas that year as a result
>didn't play any of the GBA games
>GX was fucking amazing, but holy shit it is hard
>found and played an AX machine during a trip to Vegas
>played F-Zero on SNES classic
>playing 99 now
I played the first game when it came out and liked it, but I never touched the series again until I got GX.
Did finish all the leagues one time, but that's it
>X is where I started, I think I was 4 when I first played it.
>Also had Maximum Velocity on GBA but I don't remember playing that one much either
>Anime is stupid but fun
(Kent Akechi chads, ww@?)
>GX/AX
Do they really hate sprites or something?
>golden fox winning every race
guess the game is solved
time to quit
I see wild goose winning most of the time
why can I only do well with the blue falcon
post cards gays
Do you guys always boost through that one part towards the end of Mute City with the decelerating floor? I see everyone doing it but I'm not sure it's worth losing your max speed
Yes if everyone else is and they're ahead of you. Yes
>suck fucking ass at Silence time trial
>can't break 1'50"
>screw it, let's try the Fox, not like it can do any worse
>still bouncing off the walls, but the boost is like a Ctrl-Z and undoes any speed loss
>eventually land a 1'46" with it and score the snazzy background
Jesus Christ, no wonder I see so many Foxes way out in front. This thing would be a nightmare in the hands of someone who actually knows what they're doing.
>got four KOs in one race
I wish I could say I'm getting close to the 5 KO badge but it's so random whether I can even get one kill that this feels like I need to win the lottery
I got it recently. The bumpers count as a KO too so use them.
I have gotten greedy wanting to extend my meter only to become food for my trouble so I think you have the better idea.
>constantly have the Fire Field music in my head now despite it not even being in the game yet
Can't wait for them to add it, bros. The shitshow is going to be glorious.
Enjoy this meme someone made in a previous thread.
I'm looking forward to it as well, it looks fun
For some reason I just can't pull off KOs with any degree of consistency. I figure the technique is just ram and spin into people as often as possible, but I don't know if there's a trick I'm missing or what.
People tend to get low near the finish line and near the pit stop, keep an eye on people near there. If you see someone smoking, pounce.
I'm I the only one frustrated that Mute City and Big Blue are always picked over Sand Ocean and Death Wind? The only time I can play those courses is on GP.
WHERE THE SSS ANONS AT? I DON'T TALK TO B+ETAS
fucking saved
Man, it hurts so much when you can tell the exact moment at which you lost all chances
>final lap at Silence
>get kicked by a wild goose into one of the mines, bounce towards the wall in front, miss the jump
Regarding cars:
>Blue Falcon: most balanced, good for beginners, might get better when the next tracks are added to the game
>Golden Fox: lowest speed but boost for days
>Wild Goose: the bully, great to rack up KOs
>Fire Stingray: fastest and with the best grip, but low health so you have to manage your boosts
Just pick the one you're most comfortable with, you should try playing them all since each car has its own rewards.
The game does a great job of rubbing in your failure with how long it takes to get back to the menu after you die
yes, the 99 games are perfectly designed to filter out toxic man babies who rage when they lose and attract based chads who want to strive for 1st
I'm grateful to be top 20.
Imagine dating an f-zero racer.
>tfw no muscle girl gf whos idea of a perfect date is her taking you on a time trial run on Silence...
I'd be scared for her safety constantly
The F-Zero machines are packed with safety features. Sure there was the big accident but that only served to make things safer. Like one anon said a few threads ago. No amount of cash could get people to race if dying was super common.
Fuck all Dr. Fag players
Hate you all
%2B%3AVideoGameMusic
Sorry, can't hear you over the sound of my melodic trance.
playing GX when I was younger I used to hate this because I was in my 'rock' phase, now I fucking love it.
I love how varied the soundtrack was
%2B%3AVideoGameMusic
>Downloaded from like three different places.
>Always corrupted.
But why?
To clarify, I was talking about the full OST. Seriously though, has anyone else experienced this? The GX OST is virtually unobtainable.
Would you rank this as one of the best games on Switch? I love how quick and fun it is all is.
This and Quake 2
quake is on switch?
how is it?
Good
define good
I've never played quake
Absolutely. It's everything I like in a game. Fast paced and all about gameplay. Downtime is minimal.

Falcon Fuck You!
How do I git gud? I'm always stuck behind the pack or in the niddle
practice the time trials, learn all the good skyway spots
Just keep playing, you'll eventually get a hang on where's best to boost and how to do sharp turns. One very important thing you should get used to is strafing, especially when you're dealing with bumpers, it's easier to reposition by strafing to dodge them. Knowing when to use Skyway is also extremely important, there are spots where you can extend the time you remain on Skypath because it won't drop you in curves so you can cruise all the way to the top spots if you know where to use it.
Are we getting more tracks this month?
Yes, late September
Should I get the Nintendo Online Snes controller for this game? Are the zl zr buttons useable on it?
the nso snes controller is mostly for people who want a high quality replica of a controller they are nostalgic for, or collectors. if you just want a decent classic style controller get 8bitdo or retrobit.
>Should I get the Nintendo Online Snes controller for this game? Are the zl zr buttons useable on it?
This game does the same thing as nso snes games: it maps the screenshot button to ZL and home to ZR. For a spin attack you have to press L and R at the same time.
is brake better at taking sharp turns than stop acc?
Yes
there is a brake???
Y button. It's not brought up in the tutorial or any of the loading tips, for some reason, but it's shown on the controller layout.
a tutorial for F-Zero not telling you how to brake is incredibly in-character
Real men don't use brakes
what's a break? a stat for girl cars?
Dumb goomba.
Brake is mapped to the Y button for Y would you use such a gay tool
I think it depends on the turn
It seems obvious to say, but I really enjoy how the customization options make even the small selection of cars feel varied and unique. It's fun to put your own spin on a classic car and see what combinations other racers come up with. Makes the world of F-Zero feel populated in a way I've not really felt before.
If they ever made another proper entry in the series (lol), I'd love it if it stuck around.
>if you know someone your power meter refills
Okay what the fuck, I must have been skinning the tutorial text. That's a game changer
Kill someone*
How do I win with Blue Falcon, I don't want to use any other machine.
Don't, Ganker is a fire stingray board
Honestly this game is really fun, I can't wait to play more tonight
>have a huge backlog of switch games
>F-Zero 99 comes out
>play nothing but F-zero 99
help
Okay, Picochads, how do I get more kills? I too often go a race without even 1, and I feel that's the last trick I need to master beyond just driving better. Any tips on killing other racers more consistently?
It's mostly about capitalising when people are obviously weak. Don't forget you can also destroy the gray bumpers, too.
It's so hard, I just feel like I rarely see anyone on fire, and when I do they are already exploding as I swing at them.
Keep an eye out when you get near the finish line or right before a recovery zone, people love burning all their meter before hitting those spots so one well placed spin is enough to kill a few opponents.
Bonus salt for killing them right before the end of a race in GP mode.
>trans flag colors Golden Fox gets a perfect 1000
>I got second on Silence
>they were ahead of me by three and a half seconds
Is it over? Should I assume I'll never get my last Stingray color if players are this consistent already?
eventually everyone will stop playing, then you only need to beat the bots
Looks more like a Gradius colorscheme to me.
>trans flag colors
you are colorblind
I am actually
The Fire Stingray version of that color scheme is white/cyan/pink, so I saw the white and cyan and assumed the third color was pink. Third color is dark blue on Golden Fox, I'm retarded
>transray player outing xerself
oh nonono
I see smoke. I spin at them. They don't die. What am I doing wrong? Do I have to come from the side? Can't spin into their ass?
Sometimes they were already in the process of exploding. Just netcode shit
Probably a latency thing, you might not have actually hit them on their end. The tick rate in this game is apparently really low for a racing game and they're just interpolating the paths between
>hit someone from midair and don't see them spin
>they go flying off the course
>only to make an impossible swerve back on
I never actually hit them
Not him, but what's the proper way of dealing with this? Like in Mario Kart you might sometimes throw a shell a little ahead of someone to account for latency. How would you account for latency here?
If they spin in return they won't explode. It's the only defense you have while you are smoking.
does fire stingray have a really shitty starting boost or am I timing it wrong
It has the worst acceleration in the game, yeah
If you see smoke come out of your vehicle you did the boost too early, but even if you do it right the stingray is just the slowest, and if you're in a starting area without a boost pad you really feel it
It's shit, but the timing is to hild just before the third plip in the countdown.
Goosebros, how do I win?
just bully people in the middle of the pack like a chad
people shouldn't be able to pick red cars
Lucky Bumper mains can suck my nuts.
I wish I could queue up specifically to play as lucky bumper, it's fun as fuck shitting on people
Gold Bumper is a big guy
He's a fucking gay that always spawns directly behind me when I'm struggling. Thanks, jackass.
Or perhaps he's wondering why someone would bump a man, before ranking him out of a race
Not big enough apparently, because that fat gay keeps juking me when I try to bump him.
Is boosting into someone enough to kill them or do you have to spin attack too in order to damage them?
BR aside, I think F-Zero having an actual comeback mechanic is doing wonders for the popularity of 99. It feels balanced too, unlike the ridiculous Mario Kart items
makes me worried for a new mainline entry though
It sure doesn't feel fair when I am in first and get onset by 2 greys, 2 red, and a blue gay, meaning I literally MUST let someone pass me because it is impossible to proceed forward and live.
>Game punishes you for being skilled
I'm not playing this pozzed shit
I bet $1000 you're not skilled
Doesn't that happen in the original, too? If you skip too far on the track they pull you back just like that.
yes

I may only have 4 wins, but they're all honest, hard working Blue Falcon wins. I could be one of those 30+ win Stingray chodes if I wanted, but winning with that ugly overpowered ship doesnt count to me.
Whats the hardest skin to unlock? Blue Falcon Gold skin?
Black Blue Falcon skin was more difficult.
I've come close a few times on winning GPs with Blue Falcon, couple 2nds and 3rds. But Ive won a few 99s with Blue Falcon already. Maybe I've just been unlucky in GPs
I've had the opposite experience. What's your secret to doing well in the 99 races?
Study courses. I started winning once I really started pushing which tight corners I can get away with fluttering the throttle on, and when I started committing to conserving my boosts. I have specific spots I boost on and I almost never compromise that.
After that, you want to focus on getting complex courses like Sand Ocean, and be lucky enough that there arent any 30+ sweaty chode stingrays in the lobby. The car is sub-optimal, so in the worst case scenario (equally skilled or better fox/stingrays against you) its pretty much impossible to win. Especially on death wind, don't even bother on that track.
Anything involving winning a GP. Shit is basically impossible in A and S leagues.
F-zero 99 thread might be the bst ones on Ganker right now... keep it going fags
they should just make Mute City 99 a menu option and remove it from the regular 99 mode if that's all people are gonna pick, fuck me
The regular 99 mode should have all the tracks to choose from imo
it's the same problem as 1-1 spam in mario 35
the "pro" track races should just be open all the time
This looks pretty fun but don’t they usually shut these games down after like a year? I can’t enjoy it if that’s the case
That’s life bro
Enjoy things as you can
Or youre in for a bad time when you get older lol.
It's free (as long as you have NSO), just give it a try. We'll also get new updates most likely at the end of this month and during the next.
That’s fair. I’ll play it
How do I resist the temptation of spin attacking everyone first chance I get?
>Wild Goose user trying to win GP with Golden Fox

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Did you know? ALL KOs increase your max energy gauge! Yes, even KOs on bumpers! While they don't refill it like player KOs, taking the opportunity to gain some extra max boost from a bumper can give you a huge advantage, especially in prixs where it carries over between races!
it's fucking insane that it carries over in GP. I lost my first GP *BECAUSE* in the third race I was looking at my power meter going "holy shit it's still so high" and crashed like a retard
>Blow up
>Have to wait 50 years to get back in another game because of a trillion animations
>All while looking at the guy who killed you or the camera slowly turning to where you died
This shit is annoying. I'm already pissed off about dying, why the fuck do you gotta stay watching it for so long? It pisses me off even more. I just want to play again.
sounds like it's time to become a goose main
My favorite one is:
>crash out during GP
>don't press A immediately
>get stuck waiting 15-20 seconds for the race to end while your ability to leave is locked out
>have to sit through all the ranking updates and wait for the next race to get entirely underway before you can quit to the main menu
JUST LET ME LEAVE THERE'S STILL LESS THAN A MINUTE LEFT TO GET INTO ANOTHER GP GODDAMMIT
just close and reopen the game
I was afraid it would count as a disconnection. Is it smart enough to not count it if you're not actively racing?
i haven't gotten penalized yet, so i assume so.
i fucking hate this
>oops you missed your 4 second window to hold 'A' for 3 seconds, enjoy sitting around for 2 mins
That's what you get for dying 3 feet from the finish line.
You got boost power and didn't use it responsibly.
Thanks for increasing the size of my energy meter lads. Please enjoy the first 3 seconds of my race in Silence and never stop using up all of your power before the finish line.
thanks doc

they deserve it for not spin attacking before the ramp
>stay up all night playing F-Zero 99
>next time I get in my car everything looks and sounds like F-Zero
I've never experienced the "Tetris effect" before but this shit is wild.
I took the first turn after leaving my driveway a bit too fast and had to take a moment to put myself back in functional driving mode
Hold down while landing
I never got/noticed this instruction. Next time I will win.
Try sucking a cock before a GP for maximum luck!
go back to /vt/ranny gay
>Try spamming the A button to cut corners as the stingray

>How it feels to get sub 1:48 in Silence
I actually got a time of 1:46, down from 1:49.5.
The chlldren yearn for the world of 2200km/h racing.

Huh, knew I saw his name on a GP a few hours ago
>boost into the finish line in the top 10
>wait shit there's another lap
>blow up
This has happened to me more times than I care to admit so I’m glad I’m not the only idiot doing this.
same happens to me. i think its from too much mario kart
>Have my boost saved up for the final lap
>Close enough to the leader that I should be able to overtake the leader
>Race ends
>That was lap 4
I've done both what you said and this, I don't know why my brain breaks on the laps in this game sometimes.
My hands are actually tremoring after winning a port town race as Blue Falcon just now. I should probably see a doctor about that
That's just the G force. Another race will fix it.
That, my friend, is pure adrenaline and your heart beating as fast as your F-Zero machine. Embrace it.
nah anon, you are fine.
That's the adrenaline. It's a fucking amazing sensation.
i had a much easier time winning in mario 35 than this game

Thoughts?
no one care about your chud nuF-zero
f-zero if he soulless
This is the only "spiritual successor" I'm interested in, mostly because it actually mimics F-Zero and not WipeOut. I was annoyed when I missed the window to get the demo on Steam.
>mostly because it actually mimics F-Zero and not WipeOut
I'm glad I'm not alone with this sentiment. Literally every game that tries to fill in the F-Zero void back then just end up looking like Wipeout by mistake.
Did they make a separate gauge for boosting? That kinda completely defeats the purpose of F zeros boost mechanics doesn't it?
I think the idea is that players have to prioritise if they go for restoring health or more boost, so you spurn one for the other.
>Separate health and boost bar
>Remake an awesome map full of lava and set it above the ocean
It's shit, it's all shit.

Worthless. Why do these F Zero fan games keep shying away from making boost and health pull from the same pool?
Also I don't like the cell shaded art style anyway
>"spiritual successors" for a franchise that can still potentially get games
Fucking hate these. Just feels like they're trying to cash in on a desperate fanbase.
>cash in
>free game
They are measuring the interest, that's it.
I think given the sheer dearth of f-zero games and the overall demise of the futuristic racer as a sub-genre it's fine to have a stab at it.

Why do these rip off games have to make everything sound technical. The smash knock offs do the same thing.
Autists don't understand fun
They're often trying to appeal to people who think the current games don't have enough technical depth to them, but miss the point of elegant simplicity and that the games were popular in the first place for being easy to pick up and play.
Especially funny is that F-Zero 99 is right now innovating on the the genre in incredibly simplistic ways that could change everything. If I was making an F-Zero clone I'd take a step back from what I'm doing and try to learn from it.
God damn that camera movement when you boost looks like crap. It's far too jerky; not smooth enough.

There's always a Japanese name or two floating around the top ten, so I'm guessing they love it.
How are you supposed to use the slide button? Do you have to hold it or just tap it? Should you stop accelerating during it?
You can hold OR tap it for different results, depending on the turn. You probably shouldn't stop accerlerating unless you're being pinballed around.
He means that cel-shaded indie game, not '99.
ah yeah whatever my bad, i don't read chains
What types of starting boost are there?
When you hold it all the way you get a quick blue boost and a burnout right after.
When you only press B during the last "dot" you get a longer red burst.
Is there an equivalent to the Mario Kart "boost start" I'm missing?
Each car has different acceleration stats, so the timing for the starting boost varies.

Enjoy your burn in on your switch OLEDs
This game coming out reminded me about the Pacman one that's about to go offline, so I tried it for the first time.
Unfortunately, I think it's a lot of fun; shame I didn't start playing it sooner. I always just went to Tetris 99 to scratch this particular itch though.
I wonder why they're shuttering it; the servers can't be so difficult to expensive to maintain right?
bamco runs it so I guess they don't see it as profitable anymore
Probably not enough people play it.
I hope a new game will have cutscenes as retarded and kino as the ones in GX
Whattt. i didn't know the people that made GX were also responsible for Yakuza. That's awesome. Somebody shop kiryu fighting captain falcon
Too soon
Yeah, Amusement Vision was what they used to go by. They made the first few Monkey Ball games and then rebranded their studio once they switched to doing Yakuza. They're basically Sega's best studio.
>Whattt. i didn't know the people that made GX were also responsible for Yakuza.
Amusement Vision were in internal arm of Sega, who were later reformed into RGG. Nagoshi even said he'd be open to working on another game, but Nintendo never took him up on it and he's since left Sega.
Imagine if the Yakuza team made a new F-Zero game.
>Yakuza-tier dialogue and cutscenes
>an adventure mode with some small on-foot areas to break things up and let you explore the locations and interact with different characters
>some fun goofy sidequests here and there
>all the top-tier racing mechanics and feel you'd expect out of F-Zero
It would be excellent but Nintendo probably would never go for it.
>bro le f-zero should have le ebin on foot sections!!!!
No.
F-Zero has tons of fun and weird characters and a great world to flesh out.
a new racing game should be a racing game
Open world racing game Poogers
poogers
Also Punch-Out while they're at it.
I'd say it's more to do with Sega also making AX.
>spend the first couple of races in a GP focusing on getting as many KOs as possible
>by the time I get to the last two tracks, my lifebar is nearly double
>able to win the last two races and rank first due to near-constant boosting and winning the battle of attrition
I'd be shocked if Nintendo took it on internally.
>Wave Race bLue storm
Ahhh nostalgia. Give it to these guys, they're good.
>who is the ideal dev?
obviously nagoshi studio. he's begging to do it. nst could work with them. nintendo does a lot of colabs
>yet another round of grtting 1st or 2nd in all races leading up to the GP, then blowing up on Mute City
>Like screaming into a pillow, pounding the couch like a child mad
Jesus christ. You care way too much man
Yeah, probably. More just upset at myself for fucking up. Maybe enough losses will just get me to chill out...
Drive more conservatively in GP. You shouldnt get refunded, GP is an endurance test snd pacing yourself is part of that.
Why are Nin-toddlers still allowed to post on this board?

What other dormant series haven't nintendo revived for the switch?
Panel de Pon. The last time that series got anything was as a fucking Animal Crossing minigame.
Kid Icarus? Wario Land?
starfox has yet to return. the ubisoft skylanders game does not count
DKC isnt that dormant. Tropical Freeze came out on Wii U and was ported to switch. And thats a damn good game too, one of the best platformers ever.
I'm surprised Kid Icarus Uprising hasn't received the remaster treatment, that game absolutely deserves it.
Retro Studios is busy with Metroid Prime 4, please understand
DK is still recognizable to the general public enough to be featured in things at least. Gives him a better chance of getting another starring role than other dormant series.
Star Fox is dead. Zero sold very poorly and they didn't even acknowledge its 30th anniversary.
It was sold on the Wii U and the controls were ass. They shouldn't count that game's sales as representative of anything.
I agree completely. But, for now at least, Zero's poor performance seems to have sealed its fate.
I feel like if the starfox 64 remaster came out on switch instead of 3ds things would be looking better
Kid icarus and golden sun
>on-rail shooter
Congratulations, you've not played the best game on the 3DS
kid icarus is only half rail shooter
>/vt/ranny
So are Star Fox 64 and Sin & Punishment, two amazing games you dumb goober.
Less than half the game is.

I HATE THIS FUCKING MAP
I'm going to keep picking it to counter you meta slaves. Learn how to drive.
>meta slave
Cries the stingfag
Not for Golden Fox. Unironically the worst map for this machine, because it's not even a generally hard map like Port Town, it's just a map that easy for every other machine besides you.
What specifically makes it difficult for Golden Fox? I haven't tried that machine yet so I'm curious.
I usually only get mediocre top 20 placements on that place, rarely ever 1sts, especially without the assistance of a skyway.
just accept that you can't fraud every map golden fraud
Big Blue is literally easier than Mute City I, what the fuck is wrong with you? More than half the curves are illusions that you can drive in a perfectly straight line between.
Post your first win
You did save it right?
I have never won
>stingray
You didnt win. The blue falcon player did.
stupid moron.
Stingray and Fox are the elite machines because they are squishy as fuck.
Goose is for everyone and Falcon is garbage.
Only Falcon wins are valid and redeemable. I don't make the rules, that's just how it is
you are a stupid moron repeating stupid memes from fromslopwarefags.
>stingray
>squishy
>literally 2nd best durability in the game
>even get better healing than Goose
???
you can literally boost 1 time per lap or you are dead. Also you lose speed like a motherfucker for every bump or error you make.
How about posting your GP win here, anon?
Yeah, and the slower, less healing goose also gets one boost per lP, without having your amazing healing. Just admit your favorite car is overturned.
>GP win
Don't have one, largely because I don't play stingray, I play the character I like instead of the meta.
then play stingray if it is that good.
I like Pico better. I do have a far higher 1st rate with stingtay and fox, than goose, though.
Why do people meme stingray so hard? I see golden foxes and wild gooses in first place more often than I see stingrays.
Fire Stingray was considered the best machine in the SNES original.
I don't trust smug doctors.
How are you guys recording these?
bro, you know the Switch has a record button right?
A screen capture I know of not a record.
hold the button down and it records the last 30s
Nice
bro...
hold down the button, it records the last 30 seconds of gameplay
How do you guys upload them to Ganker then? They also need to be conveyed to webm.

what did he mean by this
He's saying he is the Neue Ziel from Gundam 0083
>Dr. Stewart. I'm Ziel.
Uh, you don't get to bring pilots
are golden foxes the yoshi teddybuggy fags of this game?
falcon GODS will rise when fire field is released
>every track except Death Wind
>cross the starting line
>boost through the pit zone
I hate that this meta is so effective, it makes the start to each race so boring. Pile into the pit or simply be left behind forever.
I noticed people doing this, but I didn't think it made any difference so I always just go straight, though it's probably best to follow everyone else and pick up sparks that way too.
It's incredibly effective.
>more spark collection because everyone's crowding into each other
>literally free boost because you recover almost 100% of the energy spent
F-Zero GX hurts my hand so bad. I don't know if it's because I'm unconsciously squeezing the controller or what. Also having to claw grip for boost
>having to claw grip for boost
The Gamecube controller is literally designed for pressing A at the same time as Y or X with only your thumb because of the shape of the buttons and how close Y and X are to A. Are you literally putting the tip of your thumb on the A button? You should be pressing A with the pad or even knuckle of your thumb so the tip of it overlaps with Y and pressing Y is just a matter of rocking your thumb a bit. No claw grip needed.
I'm playing on Dolphin with a PS4 pad
Just rebind the controls.
what's the easiest course to get 5 KOs on? I'm having difficulty getting that achievement
Probably Port Town but honestly 5KOs in one race is mostly luck I feel like
>mostly luck
lol, you wish. just look at this, what part of this looks like "luck" to you?
Am I stupid and blind? It doesn't look like you even touched the people it said you KO'd.
He rams a pink stingray to the wall and then bumps into the (probably 1hp) pink fox.
All of it. Relied on opponents being there and out of energy
