So how does he go about choosing movesets anyway? SM Anabel only has 5 Pokemon in her non-battle tree fight so he filled the empty slot with Lucario because her other Pokemon are legendary and aren't allowed for some reason. Lucario's set was naturally the weakness policy one because its only other set is the mega set (Same goes for Alakazam). But what makes him for example choose which one for Snorlax who has both a life orb set and an assault vest one?

You know it's not intrinsic to the AI being used, right? Pokedad made that a clause for this particular tournament so that a gimmick could still be used without being too broken, but there are previous tournaments where this is not the case.

I like watching the tourney but the bigger and 'better' ver has been pretty bad. Some of he movesets are weird (Perish Song WITHOUT a trap move?) and it does not properly take advantage of the Terrastal mechanic and give us something like Water STAB Garchomp.
A lot of the bad movesets are taken straight from the games, though. That was the whole point - to reflect how good these trainers actually are based on how they've been presented in the games, as opposed to their theoretical upper limits. There's some finagling that has to be done, of course, since a lot of trainers don't have full teams, items, etc, but when Sycamore gets screwed over by his Venusaur only knowing grass moves or Volo gets screwed over by his Roserade knowing Petal Dance instead of Energy Ball, those poor outcomes are completely legitimate and reflect poor teambuilding on the character's part. If anything, those flaws are part of what makes it interesting.
As for Tera - it's being used as the npcs in SV use it, which whilst that means it's not especially impactful, is, end the end, fair enough.

Yup. Her team is balanced, strong, and versatile, with great coverage and sufficient utility. Importantly it's also easy for AIs to use.
A 'mon can only have one tera type anon. You choose each 'mon's tera type when building your team, not during the battle. Still would've been smarter not to tera at all, given the Lucario's tera type was fighting, but in this tourny the AIs are locked to always teraing their last 'mon, just as the SV NPCs do it.

I said Rosie, not Rose. Rose IS pretty bad - dude got roflstomped in the villains tournament and suffered a round 1 humiliation in his block in this one (he's an embarrassment to steel type specialists everywhere) - but Rosie (from Battle Revolution) has Delcatty, Sunflora, and Beautifly. She was fighting into a type advantage (her other three 'mons are all grass types) in her round 1 match and still got smoked 6-1.

He did that in the first iteration, the problem is he realised that neither Showdown or the main VG format had balanced them for an 'all gimmick' format.
Maybe, if I was him, next time I'd run a 'no gimmick' format altogether.
