Due to this, it doesn't matter how rich the company is, which you seem to think changes anything. I'd be surprised if competitive pokemon directly results in a lot of people to go out and buy the games/merch, it's niche and thus there is no incentive for them to invest in it like that.

They don't care about people who play the games. Which is fine, because the reality is they are the minority. Most people don't like "hackmons" and there are communities out there that will blacklist you if you use genned mons. This whole ordeal is pretty much a VGC issue. Something many don't even know or care about.

Other video games don't make you play a different game to prepare for a tournament. I don't have to play Animal Crossing for 20 hours before I'm able to play League; I can just play League. Pokemon makes you play a boring, grind, single player game before it lets you play the multiplayer. Or you can just skip the single player and inject an identical team down to the bytes. It's no surprise, then, that everyone does just this.
No, you have to play a different game. Did you miss that part? The multiplayer doesn't give you the tools to play the multiplayer, you have to play a different, single player game to get at the multiplayer.

It's inherently not a different game. Playing through the game like that is the intended way. If you don't actually play the game, the single player adventure and train your pokemon, then you don't compete, simple as that. Play smogon if all you want is instant battles
its not a different game pokemon is about catching training and battling pokemon, the training/ team building is still part of the tournament just like practicing strategies is in other games or going to the gym to get your body ready for sports

The legal Pokemon should only come from the current game, so you only need to buy the latest game if you want to jump in. It's one thing to let players trade up a current gen legal Pokemon from a past game. It's entirely different to have that Pokemon ONLY be from a past game.
