modern gachas have calculable price tag for every thing they are trying to peddle you and the "gamble" is only how much of it can you shave off of this price by simply logging into the game or getting lucky
garbage, actual gambling like fgo doesn't really exist anymore
rates went down for other games to compensate for it too. fgo's gacha rate is .8% for the character you're rolling for while other popular japanese games have it around.4%. fgo somehow has some of the best odds to roll the exact unit you're chasing instead of some filler unit.
still an improvement over the old school gachas with .0079% rates and no pity. the korean ones were especially bad about that shit.

which are a minority of the market outside of very niche fanbases like horse pussy, asiatics and chinks have taken over now. Who generally match or exceed FGO's rates while having pity mechanics on top of that.
off the top of my head the only one with stupid good rate up percentages was azur lane because they were experimenting with making the characters easy to obtain and selling skins. which is a shit revenue stream for how popular the game was for a while.
genshin and honkai star rail have an abysmal .3% rate up chance for the first set of rolls before you reach the 50/50. after that it's .6%. those are games where you have to hit the soft pity quite often.
Even with the poor initial rate, FGO lags behind games with pity systems unless you're an extreme luckchad, to say nothing of actually generous ones.
it's just various degrees of israeliteing. fgo has a higher chance to roll a unit before pity but at the same time, an incredibly high pity ceiling(300 rolls). other games have low pity ceilings(75~ rolls to 200 rolls) but shit rates so that you almost always have to hit pity. with genshin/hsr that devolves into winning the 50/50 or else you need to have 2 pities(150 rolls~) saved up.
that's not even getting into the importance of dupes in some of these games. high rates are often offset by needing multiple copies of a unit(fgo is guilty of this, np2 can end up being very important for some characters) and then you have weapons/craft essences/light cones that can often be on an entirely separate gacha to complete a characters kit and also need multiple copies.
all gacha games israelite like fricking crazy, it's just picking your poison. except azur lane, azur lane did not israelite very hard but because of that it made much less money than other less popular games.
There's also girls frontline for generosity but it also made zero monies hence GF2 moving to a system similar to Genshin but with earlier pities
yeah gf and azur lane are from that weird period where gachas were trying to copy kancolles systems because kancolle was the biggest thing around for a couple years. both are actually monetized harder than kancolle i believe but they still make next to nothing compared to the games that israelite super hard. kancolle had perma death though to get people to roll more if they fricked up, which was removed from al/gf for obvious reasons so the additional monetization was to offset that i believe.

All MTX should be outlawed period since companies refuse to control themselves. All games games should be one and done projects for one single payment.
The only exceptions being for game breaking bugs (ones that mean the game can't be 100%'d, not balance or general errors) and for games receiving 100% free updates (but also only if they make EVERY public update available for free on every platform it is present because they're not allowed to steal or modify what you have purchased).
Everything else MTX - F2P, DLC, currencies, gacha, season passes etc.? Illegal.
