They could have picked literally anything else. Pikmin is a game they're most certainly going to do at some point, and it's not the best game ever, or the best challenge possible, but it's better than DQ2.

I get it - the millennials and their kids are the target audience. For Japan "retro gaming" is primarily the FC, SFC, then PCE and a tiny bit of MD. That's roughly how the breakdown of the game challenges work. BUT long ass rpgs just don't work for the show because they're long and they're NOT skill based challenges. The best parts of the show are Arino just brute forcing old hard ass retro games.

It has been a while since I watched it, but it just wasn't memorable aside from the "I hate trump!" bit. There's better episodes that haven't been translated yet is what I'm saying.
Learn moon so you don't have to rely on someone to sub for you. They're so far behind I imagine the show will end before the subbers catch up.

Honestly I'm probably missing some really great stuff. I've only watched one of the travelogue episodes, one of the country visit episodes (America), and I skip a lot of the really basic arcade games he plays like Wrecking Crew because I just kind of find the gameplay repetitive to watch. I'm trying to force myself to branch out more now though, since I've seen basically everything else.
That's why I said watch everything. It's a great show, and even small bonus stuff is really enjoyable like the time he played Balloon Fight on Nintendo Channel and Iwata was there.
I don't think I'm the person you think I am, but I guess I should still watch everything. I've literally been watching this show and avoiding the trips/travelogues for like 10+ years now probably.

They need to get the rights from the rights holder of the IP, as well as the publisher, so they likely won't. They are doing one anime/manga game per season almost now.
I think for western series, they might do a Loony Tunes game at some point. There's a few really good Anamaniacs and Tiny Toons games.

It is not just Irem. Dino City based on is a made for tv movie from America, so they’d have to negotiate with Smart Egg productions or whoever holds the rights to them. Ie more work than it is worth when they could just get an original ip.

Covid era episodes are a little depressing.

Doesn't help that ADs aren't as present as earlier seasons anymore, but it does feel that interactions got a lot more stilted. Not to mention Arino got really good at games after 20-something seasons which kinda defeats the show's entire premise.
