to answer your question, OP, there's something called a terms of service. violating it is illegal and constitutes a violation of contract law. whether or not it is prosecutable is dependent on the damage done. for example, if someone were to cheat during a professional competition, that would also violate the bylaws of a professional organization. most of the time it will be settled out of court by being plainly ignored or revoking a player's non-transferrable rights to a license.

there's way too many hackers in every online game nowadays. wallers and aimbots in FPS. esp in others. need to be reduced. even EAC and battleye doesn't seem to do much.
