Let's talk about the games demos of which you've played over and over again, yet haven't touched or finished the full versions of.
I've had a stack of PS1 demo discs and one game I've always replayed there was the first Tombi! (or Tomba! if you're amerifat enough). The demo was pretty long and full of content. For some reason the first game wasn't pirated as widely as the second, so I was unable to find anywhere. Been planning to get to it, first with PSP, then with the Vita at hand. But here I am, making a thread about it instead.

>I AM TOMBA THE MIGHTY
Kino
I'm glad i can finally talk about Tomba again now that Caveman DCJ is a loser and no one will idolize him. About fricking time we bury this shit.
The fricking be quiet guy is a troon now??
>is a troon now
Yep, go check his profile
>Fricking who?
Speedrunner turned troony. He had an infamous video of where he told another autist at SDGQ to shut up during his run which was uploaded by crowbcat. Then this game series only got known for referencing that video. People would just derail any discussion of it with quotes from said video.
Never seen any point in finishing games as fast as possible anyway. Though I wonder, why do all the speedrunners turn troon? That's a strange kind of coincidence.
The community is full of lonely outcast autists who are very susceptible to being groomed, it unironically probably spread like a virus and there is probably some patient zero that started all of it
Reminds me of that one story of a tomboy who got groomed by the rapist trannies. The shit needs to be regulated.
Yes, tomboys should be groomed by gamer neets only!
lol no it’s a fake account
>lol no it’s a fake account
Nope, it's not fake. Your idol has fallen. Too bad, so sad, tough cookies. He has always had the same twitter handle.
Fricking who? One more obnoxious troony speedrunner?
Loved the shit out of the Air Attack series. Nowadays these are the only Army Men games that hold up well, too. There's also a PC game with pre-rendered isometric graphics which is pretty fun too. Played the PS2 version of Air Attack 2 on my Series S recently and found out it's just a lazy port of the PS1 version that looks literally the same without a single improvement to the visuals or the gameplay. Welp, it's still a good fun.
That's a troll account dumb ass
It's not fake. GDQ once tagged him and it leads back to this account. That's the real CavemanDCJ, he's trans now. Unless his account got hacked and said hacker happened to find a picture of someone that looks a lot like him but more feminine then i think you're out of excuses.
it's a troll account, dumb frick. he deleted his twitter because he was done with that shit site and a troll (probably you) took the twitter handle
It's not possible for it to be a troll account because of the fact that you can find him tagged on GDQ's old tweets, and that redirects you to that specific account. If you were to click his tag from the older tweets then it would just be invalid if it wasn't real.
Black person did you even read what I posted
I read what you posted, and you're misunderstanding why it's not possible for it to be fake. How do you explain that picture even? are you really denying it looks him? because it does.
why did you come into this comfy video game thread and decided to shitpost in it? because you're mentally ill.
>why did you come into this comfy video game thread and decided to shitpost in it?
The first comment on the thread was derailment. And as expected people came in to start derailing it further by quoting a certain video. I'm not guilty of ruining any thread, it's Caveman's dick riders that do that when it comes to discussing this game.
I LIKE THAT JUMP!
I don't like Chibi either, but i also don't like what you did to discussions of this game. Caveman is pretending to be a woman now as well just FYI
Literally fricking who.
Stop paying attentions to videogames "vip" you fricking troglodytes.
First post referenced him in the thread. Caveman's homosexual fanboys always derail any discussion of this game.
You're a fricking moron
https://web.archive.org/web/20211013030927/https://twitter.com/yourblackfrien3/status/1448123633025654788
It's fricking embarrassing how Ganker is full of gullible underage morons.
He doesn't actually talk though. So he would never say that in any situation.
The same story is with the first Medievil. The demo with a time limit where you could get up to the mausoleum glass demon boss fight was great. Replayed it many times. Then bought the second game (it's great too, despite some parts that seemed too hard for the little young me). And only, like, 15 or more years later I've finally managed to get to it and finish. The remake is great, too, despite what normie journos kept saying.
Kek my stepmom destroyed the disc because evil was in the name.
She made her oldest son take his pokemon cards and "cast them into the fire(place)" in her own words, because a woman at church had told her that every time you spoke ones name it summoned not just a demon...a *japanese* demon, directly into the room.
2 years later he died of cancer, 6 years after that she had gone so crazy that her now adult daughter actually hid her 16 or so younger son from her and cut all contact.Yes thats all true, granted she was exceptionally unhinged.
Everybody thought those 90s Christians were gonna be the ones to ruin everything and you can see why...boy werent we wrong!
have a crazy mom then and maybe you have to burn some pokeman cards and look a little silly as people make fun of you for her. Have a crazy mom now and she mutilates your genitals and gets pat on the back for it by everyone
She bit me till she drew blood, saw her lock two ferrets in an igloo in front of us till they suffocated, took like 30 minutes, got about 20 other animals killed, separated from my dad when her son was sick, asked her married mother of 7 best friend to take care of my dad sexually (they were like WTF? No), then turned and accused him of cheating with her(meaning that same day) in front of our entire church while he was 300 miles away working his ass off at a jobsite with a new employee of his. Thats 2 decade old memories rattled off the top of my head and only 3 1/2 years of knowing her total.
I get your point, but she had it in spades.
Jesus F. Christ. But I guess we've all encountered this shit to some degree in out childhood. My mother was little religious too. Then, when many of our close relatives and her friends died, she kind of gone full Atheist. Probably me not succumbing to the Christianity or any other religion despite all the attempts haelped too.
I used to burn things with a magnefier as a kid. Was burning a Summoned Skull card once, and instead of the small hole it usually does, the card catched on fire. The only time it happened.
Probably those chemicals that made the cards easily flammable gave birth to those legends.
I had the same demo disc probably from Playstation magazine, I have Tomba 2 on disc and it was my favorite game for quite a while as a kid
I loved it too. The moment closer to the end where the time stops and all the game world becomes black and white, with dark fog and sinister ambient music playing scared me more than the licker or THAT door in RE2.
Yeah it was super spooky when you backtrack towards the end to fight all of the pig bosses. Was such a comfy game, I loved the minecart minigame and all of the side quests
The army men helicopter spin off for PS1
Tomba is one of my favorite chilhood platformers. You should play both of them if you get the chance. The second game is easily the better game, but the first one is still fun. I got the demo disc as well, but i got the full game after trying it.
Speaking about something newer, there was a time when I kept buying local gaming mags with CDs and DVDs full of demos, videos and other stuff like this. Sometimes they were the only thing that kept me entertained (there was no Internet access and I've read the magazines too quickly).
But anyway, one of the demos was of the first Just Cause game. My teenage mind was blown by the amount of stuff you could do compared to Vice City I loved so much back in the day. Replayed it like crazy. Yet when I got my hands on the full version, I got tired of it within the first two or three hours. I guess demo had contained all the best moments the full version had to offer.
>Let's talk about the games demos of which you've played over and over again, yet haven't touched or finished the full versions of.
I used to get the PSM as a kid so I had a CD case full of Demo discs i never ended up playing the actual games of. Some I remember are Tombi, Medievil, Kuroshi, Tai Fu, Wild 9, Overboard, Some Ghost in the shell game that made me motion sick. Also Driver where we just would take turns trying to outrun the police as long as possible.
That reminds me of one more game that cut straight into my n(igger) cortex. I've also played it when I was sick and kinda delirious, so the trippy visuals and music did some very strange things to my mind.
Kula World is sick. Still legitimately fun to play now.
Yeah. This and Kurushi (Devil Dice too) are incredible. Too bad they didn't catch on. I was kind of expecting them to appear on the PSP or DS, yet they never did.
Oh yeah, Tombi demo was great. I played it over and over and begged my mom to buy it for me. Finally got it for christmas. (Whole game is ridiculously good as well)
There were plenty of games on that same demo CD / another demo CD that I liked but never got, like Tekken 2 or 3, Parappa Da Rappa, that one weird boating game (I don't remember the name), MediEvil, the
ball game posted a screenshot of...
Honestly, I don't have any particular desire to play them now. I'm sure they would still be fun, but I feel like the time's passed.
>that one weird boating game
Overboard? Because I remember this one was part of some demo CDs at the time.
>Overboard? Because I remember this one was part of some demo CDs at the time.
Yup, that's the one. 😀
Loved this game
Me too. Never played the full version as well.
I was in the same boat where I played the demo a bunch as a kid, to the point where it stuck in my memory to adulthood.
I actually did go and play it about 10 years ago and I would recommend it, it's such a weird a quirky game but also very endearing with it's visual design and ideas, though don't be afraid to look up a guide for certain things, as they can be quite esoteric. It's also a surprisingly big game, it's like a mix between a 2D platformer and an RPG.
As for other games like that for me: Rollcage, I loved playing the demo as a kid, but haven't touched the actual full game once in my life
marble blast ultra on xbox 360.
if i click buy full game on it then it takes me to a defunct xbox live page that says i don’t have enough microsoft points because the game costs (string of 50 or so digits) amount of points.
I always wanted to calculate how much money that was
For me it was that PS2 demo disc with Dark Cloud, Klonoa 2 and some skating game
The only other two games I had back then for almost a year were Onimusha (was great but finished it in few days even as a kid) and Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance (which was decent timesink, I guess) so I ended up replaying that demo disc a lot. I think it also had Soul Reaver 2 and DMC trailers.
this looks... fun
I would really prefer if you would name 3 games with evil pigs
The Tail Concerto demo that was in Japanese. Played it a million times before renting the actual game years later. Great memories.
I remember playing this in Japanese. It was so cool and i wish Japan made more weird games like this again.
Oh, hey, I have one of these discs with me. There's even the original cardboard sleeve left. Another thing that kept my young brain curious were the videos and trailers of the games I've played a lot. In the MGS video here Snake gets hundreds of C4 planted all over the game's early locations and then triggers them into the long chain of explosions. That kept me wondering whether you could do it in the game or not. Not to the same extent as the possibility of unlocking playable Cyberninja, mind you.
Demo 1 had great games on it.
Not to mention the whole AESTHETICS part of it. The one from the red sleeve had the deep sea theme with a background reminiscent of the Spyro skyboxes and hypnotic music. Good god, I miss this shit.
that was probably the one I had
The demo had one action-packed mission in it and it was enough to sell it to me. The game itself is bogged down by the barren open-world with boring activities. The PSP remakeport without sandbox shit is pretty good, though. The tone got much more wacky than the original, too.
man this game was absolute dog shit bottom of the barrel trashy and i loved every second of it
it wasn't even so bad its good, it was just plan fricking awful and ugly and shitty to play but I still loved it for some bizzare reason even though i knew at the time it sucked ass
But hey, shooting, combos and power-ups were great. If the levels were better and the graphics didn't look like the game came out 4 years too late, it'd be awesome.
There was this one PS2 demo disc, the only one I've ever had. Got it from the 2008 issue of the local PSM, so it was one of those late demo discs containing the demos of older games. It had a pretty fat demo of the third Ratchet game on. Haven't played the full version up until getting the trilogy on the Vita.
So... confirmed... Santa's number one helper is a squirrel?
I love that THIS comment was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Star Ixiom.
Tomba is the real name you european moron
Are you mad for somebody remembering the pink-haired boy's name differently or are you irritable from not getting your daily intake of sugary carbonated drink, heavily processed meat patties and chemically enriched bread?
Huh, just checked the Japanese Wiki and you're right. I've always thought Tombi was not only European but the Japanese title too.
Caveman troons mindbroken
https://twitter.com/unifiedbranding/
His actual account. Not sure what you Chibi gayS are playing at but normal people will always side with Caveman.
Alright well there's nothing to prove anything here, since it's private. Meanwhile the account i linked was something that GDQ directly linked to when referring to him. That is undeniable fact that Caveman used that account.
I'm accusing you of cheating
I bought it as some point but then lost it.
I recently looked at the price on ebay and I'm fricking mad.
My sister borrowed it and some other games like 20 years ago (My mom made me and my brother give her my ps1 and his Gensis) and she sold it with my ps1 and all the other games she borrowed from me for like 20 dollars in a lot. Fricking pisses me off to this day.
borrow a few hundreds bucks and never give them back.
You've just made me mad. I mean not you, anon, but this whole situation and how similar it is to mine. My Genesis, just like many of my toys, was given to my parents' friends' children. Still makes me mad even to this day, as my Genesis had a pretty nice library of games (some even with plastic shells left) and there were toys that sell for a nice price on eBay.
Oh, and one of the toy boxes they've spontaneously given away had a condom inside. I've found it in a gaming magazine (it had a label "Extra gift for mature and smart people inside"). I hope whoever found it had managed to use it properly.
I played that ps1 demo disc collection of Tomba, einhandr, blasto, Musashi, tomb raider, tekken, Jax so much
FRICK THOSE WERE SOME GOOD TIMES BROS
I still remember playing the demos of even the games I've owned, autistically enjoying little details like the other characters portraits in Crash Team Racing.
Are you me? For me it's that Tombi's demo as well. It felt so unique to have all kinds of non-linearity and side quests in a 2D sidescroller so I kept replaying and finding new secrets every time and wanted to keep exploring the map. It became my #1 wanted game on PS1. But my local store never had the fricking game. I've read a lot of anons sharing similar sentiment over the years. Demo was popular but actual game was rare.
I also have fond memories of the Jackie Chan Stuntmaster demo, it was so fun at the time.
I used to play this game with my friend over at his house when i was a child, because i used to think Jackie Chan was really cool back. Even watched the cartoon before school. That and Fighting Force i can remember quite well.
I remember my friend had a full version of Tombi but didn't want to share. Eh. There's also the fact that at the time the only PS1 games you could find in a Third World post-Soviet shithole were pirate copies. And some games, for some reason, were rarely pirated, too. The first Tombi was one of those.
It's weird, but my experience supports this, too. I grew up in Poland and had a modded PS1. Had Tomba 2 on a pirate disk but never managed to get the first game. I wonder why that is.
The much worse case is when all of the pirate copies of the same game were broken and unbeatable. There was the Bugs Bunny game (Lost in Time, I believe) that was crashing at the end of the wild West-themed level. Me and my parents travelled across all the market stalls and shop and every copy was like that. Good thing all of them had this flexible returnexchangetrade-in system where you could change the game if you didn't like the one you bought or it was broken for some reason.
Lost in Time didn't have a wild west level. It had pirate, far future, 1900s mafia, medieval and prehistoric levels. Bugs Bunny 2 didn't have wild west levels, either.
I remember my copy of Spyro 3 triggering their anti-piracy measures so my collected eggs were resetting and I could never finish the game. Never realized it was anti-copy protection, just thought it was a scratched disk. In hindsight those were pretty shitty pirate protections because a determined poor kid like me still spend hundreds of hours playing that game lmao
Oh, right, it was a prehistoric level. It just that Wild West's the first thing that comes to mind when I remember those brown rocky canyons. That's why I remember this game for its first hub level and that's it. At least the one with Taz team-up wasn't broken.
>a determined poor kid like me still spend hundreds of hours playing that game lmao
Me too. Though I admit, the game starting to act strange, fairy addressing me personally and my close to 100% progress being reset have scared me more than all the Psycho Mantis mind frickery even could.
I must've been lucky and gotten a working version of lost in time because mine worked fine. It was probably an ntsc/pal thing. I know digimon world PAL had the game freeze in front of ogremon's fortress. Sad times for my european brothers.
>fairy addressing me personally
I never noticed because I couldn't speak english so it was all just random letters to me.
Mine was one of those pirate "localizations". Funny they've translated the part of pirate protection scenario too.
>It was probably an ntsc/pal thing.
Oh, that. My friend had a whacked PS1 modchip, so some of the games were black and white and some didn't work at all.
Were this and kula world on the same demo as tombi? I member those as well
I had this on my demo disk that came with the system with parappa, the original armored core, and croc. Played the shit out of IQ, and treasures of the deep demos but never the full game
This..... Looks fun
You know and the art style of OPs game has an interesting artstyle to it
Caveman cut his dick off. Mald cope and seethe.
I would really prefer if you'd be quiet
Speaking of demo discs, did any of you get the ones from Pizza Hut back in the day? those ones were awesome.
That looks very different from what I ised to have. I guess there really was a difference in American and European approach for making demo discs. But these look cool too. Love how the titles are just in the front of the sleeves.
Holy Hell dude, the Pizza Hut demo disk two was literally the first thing I popped into my Playstation when I first got it. Told my friend earlier that day I was going out to buy one and as soon as I came home he was walking down the street with that for me while we talked about what games to get while playing the crap out of the Spyro an GT2 demo on repeat. I seriously miss the times when gaming was that simple before it went to shit. The Chad Pizza and Beer will always beat the Virgin Doritos and Dew.
I LIKE THAT JUMP
that's we'll say when the troon off's itself on the local bridge
>The demo was pretty long and full of content
Same, played it a ton too. You had the village of all beginnings, the road to the tower of the 1000 year old man and the dwarf forest + dwarf village. Demo ended when you brough back the lost dog to the dwarf village.
I played the full game years upon years later on the PSP (pirated of course). I recommend it, it's a super unique fun game
Played one as a kid. I thought it was Musashi, but I watched a gameplay and it didn't have the part I remember.
In the demo, you went inside a volcano.
I replayed the hell out of the Viewtiful Joe demo on this thing.
Ah, I've only seen Nintendo games and consoles on the pages of videogame magazines. But that whole compilation looks great. Now, I'd probably wouldn't play Sonic Team's 3D games nowadays for their clunkiness (or, rather, I'd play a Dreamcast version of Sonic Adventure for a complete SOVL experience) but I'd play any Clover Studio's game any time and day.
BOOMMERANG HYPE
HOIYP 😉
For me it was Medievil, Spyro 1, Tenchu 1, Kula World and Tomb Raider 3, for some reason. Oh and that anthro tiger kung fu beat em up game. Tai Fu i think it was called.
>Zommies will never know the feels of getting a playstation magazine demo discs and playing them for hours on end.
Kind of ironic as the new system of presentation is to hype games into Todd Howard's Oblivion with ton's of features and exciting things and then hide the game until the very last day of release and after they collected all the pre orders to flop down a janky unfinished project with a 1/10th of what was promised.
So, you mean, like, to pull off a Peter Moulinex move on them?
I mean...I could always wear the pants!
Never doubt the power of weapon space
super magnetic neo
I've never seen crabs used that way
Here's what you can't argue against:
see
>LesbianAF
Ah, one of those desperate for a girlfriend trannies. He probably still has a dick too
All of those WildTangent games on Windows XP in the early-mid 2000’s.
I especially remember the BlasterBall games, Polar Bowler, SpongeBob Obstacle Odyssey, and Otto’s Magic Blocks.
>tomba
>toy story 2
>medevil
>ore no ryouri (cooking game on ps1 demo disc)
Do they even put discs into gaming magazines nowadays?
there are no gaming magazines anymore anon. it's all online.
...what's a magazine?
I know you're joking but it still makes me sad. Actually, I've been looking into some of the magazines I'd been reading back in the day and hey, one of them is still being published. Most are dead, one is online only. Welp, at least there are some bi-annual locally published mags about boomer shit made by boomers for boomers. No CDs or DVDs, though. It'd be great to have them with their own player, background music ripped from some games and the content full of edgy flash games, demos and game trailers with resolution that makes your eyes bleed.
Holy soul
beyond sovl. no wonder the PSX outsold toddlertendo 64 three to one
Oh, the second one is from the
disc.
AAAAAAA... the nostalgia.
I want my childhood back.
Yup I grew up playing this demo and the Jersey devil one too.
I want to talk about tomba but its impossible.
Im here anon
Me too. I've played the first one's demo a lot, as well as the sequel. And I don't even know of any trannies and speedrunners.
You can talk to me. I beat both games a few years ago and 100%d them. Well.... Technically didn't get 100 on T1 because of the cheese bug (I couldn't trade for the last item because I had too much cheese)
In T2 I had to cheat to find the 3 hidden temples. Those frickers were hidden good
>Well.... Technically didn't get 100 on T1 because of the cheese bug (I couldn't trade for the last item because I had too much cheese)
Is there something special if you 100% the game?
I remember doing it in Tombi 2 (Tombi wore a suit), but I'm not sure if I ever managed it in the first one, always felt like I was missing something despite combing everywhere.
My favorite is still smash bros for 3ds
>out well before the game was out
>multiplayer
It was a revelation to finally have smash bros portable and multiplayer. I ended up barely playing the wii U version cause it was just so good on 3ds
Did somebody say tomba
This always stuck with me
I played the shit out of the final fantasy 8 demo that came with Parasite Eve
I was literally obsessed with it, having recently finished FF8. The cutscenes looked cool as frick an the soundtrack was intense. I have never been so excited for a game in my life.
Tomba 1 demo was fun too though, way too short unfortunately
I played the BF2 demo on release and way after when the online portion got axed
Shitty bots were fun
The only demo that ever stuck out in my mind was from some demo disc for the PS1 or PS2. You were on a giant cube that could rotate and the goal was to be the last guy alive. I didn't buy it.
Played the demo of this that came with an issue of OPM (such a great magazine) for hours and hours.
>tomba thread
>someone posts the fake trans caveman shit
>gets proven wrong for the hundredth time
>proceeds to ignore it and repeat it on the next tomba thread
what's his endgame? just autism?
I've actually learned Tomba is associated with this transhit only here in this thread. And it makes me FRICKING MAD.
This was one of the bosses from Tomba 2
I don't remember any of them being female. But then again, I've played it, like, 21 or 22 years ago and my neurons responsible for this kind of content were still dormant.
Here she is in the game: https://youtu.be/tCrVgP6jp_8?t=18
Wow, I really need to replay it in Japanese.
BOOMERANG HYPE
Kula World I played crap ton of that demo. Never got the full game though.
