The way Tarkov is set up 1 single cheater can ruin the game for hundreds, imagine going for weeks just surviving and then you find 1 single cheater that ends your good run and steals your best equipment, hours wasted that you can't get back because of 1 single stance of a cheater, the game by design encourages cheaters and gives them a lot of power over other people's enjoyment, you can't just quit a match or kick a cheater like in a normal game.

The same thing applies to any game. While you're right that Tarkov is by design punishing in death, a cheater can ruin your time investment in literally any game, but especially so for competitive ones. Let's say you're trying to rank up in league or CS, you're in a promo & suddenly a dude on the other team is cheating. You now lose your promo (waste of that 1 game) & now have to build up your elo to just be able to give your promos another shot, which typically involves at least another 2 wins to compensate for it.
I just don't get why people act like Tarkov is majority cheaters or egregiously more punishing than any game with a ranking system. Both are equally punishing to the player if a cheater is in the works. & Yes, I'm happy to admit Tarkov does have cheaters. I loved Tarkov when I was starting out. Rarely saw players, but on the raid you did it was usually always a very interesting change of pace from Scavs.
Game got more popular, raids started being maxed player count at all times, player count of raid gets increased. Number of Scabs gets reduced.
Now it's just a PvP deathmatch where sometimes some dumb AI shows up and dies instantly.
spt is fun and all but playing it just made me want to play anomaly instead, which I did.
if spt manages to make a semi-open world survival game I might check it out again, but even then without mutants and blowouts it wouldn't have the same atmosphere so dunno. but the weakest part of the game is the arena shooter part.

you spawn in random spots and pick up random weapons and have to make your way to a random area within a timelimit, it's fricking pubg with some slightly different elements, the only difference is you can spawn with weapons, thats it
it's nothing like PUBG, half the raids you won't even see another player, time limit is extremely generous (you get like 40 mins and your extraction is at most 10 mins away, on newer and/or smaller maps you can spawn right next to extraction), there's not many guns to loot so you have to come in with a preset loadout if you don't want to be naked for the entire raid... it's just nothing like battle royales.

It is, but Nikita, the dev, has stated multiple times that Tarkov is a stepping stone for their true game which will be a STALKER-like single player game with multiplayer modes.
the gun customization is unparalleled. nearly all parts that make a gun can be changed to make each gun unique and the player run flea market means that supply and demand for certain weapon parts mean its a lucrative to take guns you would otherwise ignore so you can strip them for parts to sell. The bullet trajectory and damage system are pretty impressive too. Sadly this is all bogged down by the gameplay loop which is:

>do a simple fetch or kill quest to progress your hideout
>loot and collect items for later quests to upgrade said hideout
>leave at your designated exit and hope no exit campers kill you
>craft items on a global timer in your hideout
>sell extra loot on the flea
>organize your gear and redeploy
People can talk all they want about playing like a tacticool swat team or a cod zoomie but the game in its current state revolves entirely around upgrading your hideout. If you ignore your quests or hideout upgrades, you're gimping yourself because you won't have access to better healing or stamina regen on top of not being able to passively train your skills.
by the way there are rpg skills like strength and endurance which at high levels can trivialize certain encounters. why would you bother moving around all sneaky like when you can sprint everywhere, stuff
loot into your backpack, kill some NPCs, and leave within the first 5 minutes?
I gave up on this dogshit game when they nerfed scav runs into the ground.
Scav runs were the perfect way to keep that early wipe feeling throughout the entire wipe and you got to avoid cheaters since most players left the raid long before you spawned in. Then that homosexual russian said no fun allowed and turned scav runs into a carebear hobo garbage looting sim.

There's plenty of things that can keep you entertained for a good 60-100 hours if you're completely new to the game. Upgrading the hidehout, getting to Kappa, levelling up skills/guns, modifying weapons etc. It's a pretty fun loot goblin experience if you like fiddling with guns, I've played a lot of roguelites that weren't even half as entertaining.
I think SPT loses a lot of its luster if you already have hundreds or 1000+ hrs in the MP version since the novelty already wore off and you know all the tricks, but I personally never touched the multiplayer and went straight to single player. I sunk something like 100 hours on it in a few weeks. The game is supposed to get more stuff and a "main goal" of sorts (escape from Tarkov, literally) so when it hits 1.0 in 2050 it will probably be even better.

The technology literally doesn't exist to make that happen. The interconnected maps were suppose to be an open world that is continuously ongoing with everyone queueing ending up playing on that same gigantic map, that's fricking impossible because Tarkov is too demanding. Technology aside, how the frick would that even work in Tarkov's setting? The gameplay would be actual garbage for the average player, there wouldn't be a time limit, clans would form and make large parts of the map impossible to access, loot spawning would be an issue because how do you stop people from camping the rare spawns, if you have loot not spawning close to players then what if a clan holds the mall for weeks, etc etc. Cool idea on paper sure, but gameplay wise it would be fricking horrible

Tarkov seems really fun but the amount of time it takes to get any good gear/items is ridiculous and you can lose everything in one single second. It's just aggravating more than anything. You need to spend 10x the amount of time to have fun than you do to get the same amount of fun just playing a different shooter game.
It sucks alright and it's a bad feeling losing it all too. What doesn't help is that you can die to so much random bullshit in the game because it's so inconsistent and most shit doesn't work properly. Despite having 10 million roubles, I still don't even want to go into raids with good gear on because it feels so pointless.

I think I tried the demo for that a while back? But it was massively early days with not much of anything added and I don't recall it running well (my rig is a toaster to be fair, i5 12400f rx6600 16gb ram).
Anomaly isn't really a good substitute since there's none of the 'extraction' part, maybe it would be better if that was the case.
Project Zomboid with mods scratches some of the itch but again, wrong genre and viewpoint.
Sadly the sole dev got set back because he started porting the entire thing to Godot. It's been going well so far and he should be done soon, but we will basically back to the point we were on Unity.
Oh damn, that sucks. Glad he's still working on it though, hopefully it ends up good.
