SwSh was pure battling until the end where it went "um, climate change". and then peaced out, so I don't even consider that an attempt, and Legends was the best because it decided to have a standard anime plot. It's best they stop trying to say something since clearly they aren't allowed to commit.

I just find it funny that Galar was such a shithole that not even normal Weezings can live there, needing a regional forme that actually purifies the air.
I'll at least give them points for N since, even after finding out the truth from his old man, he still kept to his ideals. He just now doesn't force it on others, and we see in BW2 that he does have some genuine followers who were also hurt when they found out the truth as well.
Despite this BW1 was still the best of them for what it attempted to do alone, and pre-Lusamine retcon she was good too. AZ is still interesting even if Team Flare never was.
The second trading card game villain is still the best antagonist since he stole all the Pokemon cards to get revenge on those only collecting/hoarding cards but then takes it back when he realizes he's prevented people from playing the game. Not a deep plot but one that became a little more meta as years passed.
No one complained about Lusamine outside not being able to fight her herself as a monster.
Pokemon is too goddamn soft now so an abusive mother works just fine as a villain in a franchise that has lost all its edge.

They tried something new at least. They never had a Pokemon itself being the main villain and the "good guys" were on the wrong side and they knew it as well.
Japan and other countries don't technically exist but the regions are based on real life. Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh are based off Japan, Unova and Alola are American (the US), Kalos is France, and Galar's the UK. I think the new one's in Europe (Spain).
So Go would be Japanese (Dark skinned Okinawan I guess), Iris American (Black although I think in the games she was from Johto so maybe biracial), and Hop's a Brit (probably Indian or black IDK).
I always did felt japs don't seem to know how to translate English properly, they take things too literally instead of actually researching what about the questions they get asked actually refer to.

True to form, they did the most common XY Amour* dynamic of a gag blocking Amour, followed by a sweet amour moment. But as far as the title of "love interest" goes, yeah, she has it, but that's not really worth anything unless there's a flash-forward since romance is irrelevant to the anime as Ash is an actual child on a never-ending journey.
