>everyone realizes it's absolute fricking dogshit

AC 3 electrosphere
Imagine not being able to move to all three dimensions at once in a flight sim
What was the cope when people actually started playing and realized it was fricking shit?
For SMT If... I don't even think there was one, most of the people claiming it was the best in the series just vanished out of existence.
The entire value of IF was that nobody had played it, so nobody could fact check you when you said YOU were the real SMT fan, and had actually played the best game in the series, unlike the pathetic EOP posers.
That's ruined with a fantranslation, so a change in mindset is obvious.
The entire SMT series is this though. Especially the people who'd wank the battle system, before more people actually played the games and realized that it was shittier than Pokemon.
Now don't get carried away, SMT 1 and 2 are fun games in their own right, If... is a special kind of dogshit
Pokemon from gen 3 onwards is unsurpassed in turn based combat depth. For 1v1 or 2v2 or 4vX style monster battlers like smt pokemon is far and away the best system in the genre. It is laughable in every other dimension but the core formula is pure fricking gold.
>implying
So unbalanced for PVP that it literally needs massive banlists to even be playable or every match devolves into Legendary v. Legendary counterspam.
So easy for PVE a literal child can beat it, and if you indeed have a team of level 100s, all the post-game content easily falls too.
Pokémon’s core system, like all of its other systems, falls apart once you look at it with anything more harsh than a light glance.
SMT 1 should get a remake, that story is so much fun. I like that you get to watch society collapse around you and turn into marshall law as the demon invasion becomes more and more out of hand.
>marshall law
you should go back to school and pay attention this time around.
you should succ my dick 🙂
>turn into marshall law
Did you play with an unarmed build or something like that?
Martial law. moron.
>shittier than Pokemon.
Most poke-clones nowadays copy megaten more than pokemon because at some point devs realise that limiting your mons to just 4 moves is dogshit and boring.
FF Type-0. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in anything.
>nobody could fact check you when you said YOU were the real SMT fan
They can still do that, they'll just have to switch over to Devil Summoner or NINE or something.
That happens alot online, if something is unplayable or becomes unplayable then suddenly its the second coming of Christ.
The cope is “dude ackshully just turn on analog controls” when everyone knows about that shit and that isn’t the fricking issue.
If was considered a prototype Persona. Purse Owner homosexuals finally get to play it and realise it's just hub-world SMT set on a school and that triggered their anti-mainline autism.
>it was MUH PERSONAgayS!!
Dude If... is fricking shit, the worst out of the original 3 on the famicom by far
Not going to argue against that. Just pointing out that the anti-mainline personagays are moronic and you don't do much to dispel that.
>you don't do much to dispel that.
Why should I need to dispel that, I enjoy SMT, hell I even liked some things about If... but it has nothing to do with If...'s dogshit quality and it being overhyped
AC3 is great, also
>AC is a flight sim
Holy absolute moron
ac3 is my favorite
Git gud
>AC
>flight sim
>flight sim
Ace combat games were never flight sims, they were always arcade games, if the oversized planes with 70+ rockets didn't tip you off. If you want something more sim-like, then it'd be Over G Fighters on Xbox, in which you could only carry as many missiles as you had pylons, and which had a g-force mechanic that would black out your screen if you turned too hard for too long.
Play the japanese version, homosexual
>AC
>flight sim
Sure thing, bud. Don't mind the infinite fuel, upwards of 50 missiles on board and the whole fricking Neucom fleet.
I came here to laugh at you.
>game is considered a hidden gem that's one of the best games in the series
>secondaries take interest in the series because of spin off having dating sim shit in it because they need friend simulators because they're forever alone genetic dead ends
>secondaries realizes the mainline games don't have dating sim shit in it and think its absolute fricking dogshit
Any other examples of this happening? OP's pic releated of course.
>unironically uses secondaries
A certified trans moment
Troons are the only ones against gatekeeping tho
troons gatekeept drag queens from their hobby of wearing dresses, until they realized it was bad optics, because most normal people literally cannot tell the difference between a transbian who thinks they're a woman and a gay man who wears women's clothing as part of a stage persona.
This is not only the least related argument you could have made but a glimpse into a deranged and tortured soul who only wishes other people to experience pain.
In other words go frick yourself you dumb Black person not everything is trannies.
Everything is trannies during the build up to the 2024 election, bucko, you can thank republicans trying to swerve hard from the abortion debate for that. You think this pride month being soft canceled and the anti trans boycotts are bad? Next pride month will make the BLM riots look like a fricking joke.
>The only defense if gays can muster is crying about Persona
>secondaries take interest in the series because of spin off
Persona was never a spinoff, that's something moronic localizers cooked up to increase sales via name brand recognition with SMT III. They stopped plastering the SMT branding starting with Persona 5, because SMT is fricking irrelevant in the west compared to the monolith Persona has become. It's not a stretch to say Persona is Atlus' most valuable IP at this point.
>Persona was never a spinoff
Nobody tell him the full title of Persona 1
The full title doesn't explicitly connect Persona 1 to the SMT series.
SMT if protag is literally in P1 and P2, same with the raidou devil summoner clan.
>Persona was never a spinoff
Tamaki literally appears in both Persona 1 and 2. Hell, it's even mentioned in P2 that she's a Devil Summoner
>mentioned in P2 that she's a Devil Summoner
Even more than that, they show her jobbing with her summons vs a Persona user. Devil summoner < Persona user
based, SMT if... was my favorite and its pretty comfy. Beat it about 4 times on 2 different systems with the Reiko&Akira routes.
moron I'm the OP and even if I enjoyed some aspects of If... I can recognize it's fricking overhyped dogshit
SMT and Persona are both snoozefest JRPGs, but at least the latter masquerades as a dating sim.
I don't think that many people were paying attention to this game, but I remember being really intrigued about Mystic Ark.
The intro of the game showed the main characters being transformed against their will into figurines and then being sent to a solitary mansion, until one of them breaks free and starts exploring the place.
When they finally translated it, I found... just a fairly conventional game. Not bad, but not the more arty project I was expecting. I haven't seen anyone talking about the game in a long time.
>because they need friend simulators because they're forever alone genetic dead ends
This is a tragedy that could be solved right now if men were given guaranteed access to subsidized surrogacy.
bro im fricking stuck in Kongokai in SMT 1 and don't know what the frick to do. I was going through the story and didn't expect to not be able to not fuse after the gotou shit. now im stuck in Kongokai with level 10-13 demons 200 Magnetite so I can't even recruit demons around and keep getting damn near instantly killed by the Phantasm. I don't know I actually feel like I might be soft locked and have to restart my playthrough
if anyone has any ideas on what I can do please help
Yeah Kongokai is pretty fricked up if you're unprepared, the only thing I can recommend is camping near the free heal and trying to farm resources that way
trying that but the problem is I lose more mag than I gain with my demons out and solo I just get killed if more than 1 enemy shows up.
Well either unsummon your demons, try to get ones at a time, or learn the talking choices for the demons in the area, and negotiate MAG with them, you can do that alone and it shouldn't take too long.
Most demons have set patterns that you can learn, you might get an oddball every once in a while but it can be pretty reliable, negotiate until you can comfortably set up a feedback
Level too low. If snes just learn the demon conversation patterns. If not; start over from the beginning.
Like the other anon said, take advantage of the free healing spot and try to recruit a demon with zio and stun lock the mandatory fights there
Iirc, there WAS a Cathedral of Shadows in the diamond real. I don't remember where, but i'm pretty sure there was one. In any case, why don't you instead try to get some magnetite? In theory, abusing demon negotiations in your favor should be easy, as long as you remember which demon and which option to use.
What equipment do you have? Did you take the nerve bullets off the heroine? You could cheese your way sharking for the sleep stun.
>I can't even recruit demons
What? How? I recruit all the demons there and talk my way out of every fight just fine.
Granted I accumulate moronic amount of Magnetite from all those random encounters in Ginza.
not enough mag for the recruit
Great Ace Attorney 1.
Thankfully, Great Ace Attorney 2 exists.
Was going to say this, it's still good but the way people treated it before translating was like it was the second coming of God. AAI2 is overrated for the same reason
basically all of these supposed "hidden Japanese gems"
only exception might be Moon
>basically all of these supposed "hidden Japanese gems"
I mean, those games never were localized for a reason
americans are too low taste level, alot of kino got to euros though.
>I mean, those games never were localized for a reason
At the start of every generation Sony actively discouraged the publishing of 2d games on their platforms because such games discredit the image Sony is trying to make that their console is capable of great 3d graphics. We missed out on so many 2d Tales series games on the PS2 because of this reason. Sony literally spun the narrative that westerners only care about graphics and that non-3d games would sell like trash.
i like the psx port
Is Starmen.net still pushing the "Itoi's personal masterpiece will never be appreciated outside Japan (ignoring how it wasn't appreciated in Japan either)" narrative?
It's the best selling game in the series. I don't know what you're talking about.
That one Twin Peaks esque detective game on PS1, forget what it's called.
Was constantly called a hidden gem but when it finally got translated everyone called it shit and it was forgotten.
Mother 3 is great.
Mizzurna Falls got a fan translation?
Yeah that's the one.
First time hearing about it. The game must suck dick that hard if the fan translation didn't make waves.
Came here to call you a homosexual.
I thought everyone liked mother 3, beat it like twice times over the last 10 years
I think its easier than earthbound
Might be juxtagay
I like these.
kys
Even if you were to agree that M3 was dogshit, this post is still delusional because M3's popularity in the West increased dramatically post-release -just as a relevant example, the game scored extremely highly on Ganker's top 100 during that initial post-translation period, iirc.
This is a personal one.
Since the late 90's I believed that Sakura Wars was some kind of masterpiece kept away by the language barrier.
Around 2007 or 2008 someone published on Gamefaqs a translated script for Sakura Wars 3 so I downloaded the PS2 version and played it on my modded PS2.
I was disappointed, to put it mildly. It was an interactive harem anime with a mediocre turn based section at the end of every "episode". I did finish the game once and never touched a Sakura Wars game again, not even the fantranslation for the first game that appeared a few years ago.
>Someone is fantranslating SW3 right now
Eh
>plays a VN
>is disappointed when its a VN
are you by chance moronic?
Games like Sakura Wars used to be shilled on old JRPG message boards, so I'm not surprised that anon got bamboozled by a bunch of importers. Anyone with a clue about Red Company's development history would've known to stay away from their games unless they were massive turboweebs.
you're moronic bro
I wasn't expecting it to be a VN because the internet was always very vocal about the Sakura Wars franchise being a cool mecha franchise where you fight demons and shit on steampunk mecha.
Then I play the "game" following this Gamefaqs fella Remiel's translated script and find that it is 80% VN 20% game.
the gameplay is nonexistent/braindead in these games, but the VN part is quite charming and well-written (only played Sakura Wars 1 fan translation tho). The only reason these games were popular is because they figured that no one actually wanted to play a strategy game so they made the mech part ridiculously easy, and the vn part where all the meat was.
is fantranslating SW3 right now
Thought the SW3 'fantranslation' was just a techdemo a guy did while asking REAL translators to jump in and do the job for him.
Its SW2 the one that is actually getting a full patch, they even released the demo, now its just a question of when the full game will release, any day now...
moron
That being said though there's been a frickton of morons who never played any of the games saying that it's some kind of hidden gem of a tactical RPG that the west has never seen the likes of before. Back when Shin was shown to have musou combat those dumbfricks kept whining about how the games was doing away with the deep tactical combat when the musou shit was no less braindead than telling Sakura you like her so that her super bar fills every turn and she can spam instant kill map attacks.
I don't know what Sega was thinking with Shin. The audience for SW had long since grown out of console games and the series had almost no recognition outside of Japan. Worse yet, nobody was going to accept Kubo as the new character designer, regardless of how badly Kosuke Fujishima disgraced himself in the public eye.
>regardless of how badly Kosuke Fujishima disgraced himself in the public eye.
From what I saw most people didn't even know about the weird shit he'd gotten up to with shoehorning his barely-legal cosplayer wife into games when she can't act.
Well, that's not what caused all the controversy - it's the fact that he knocked up said barely legal cosplayer while still being engaged to his ex-fiancee, only to split up with that ex-fiancee in the most tactless fashion possible. The lawsuit that followed is what gave him his bad reputation.
What the hell was he thinking
He was thinking about impregnating a 16 year old cosplayer
Probably that he wanted to frick the cosplayer. This type of lust is one of the oldest and widely represented failures in all cultures.
many such cases
The Romans had slaves for their urges.
Yeah, people barely know about that either though.
You forget what kind of audience SW (and other IPs Fujishima was involved with) drew. Ditto for cosplayer's pay pigs on Twitter.
Music is still really good though
PSX version only, and that one has no translation. I might just play the Akira route on that version anyway for the music, if I do play the game
fire emblem 5
thracia's great though, capture is fun and turns every enemy into a treasure chest.
if anything it's the opposite. as I recall, 10 years ago the consensus seemed to be actively warning people away from playing it. only now that it's more widely played (and now that pretty much everyone knows how to avoid softlocking by word of mouth) does it have a representation as one of the best in the series.
10 years ago it was touted as the best game in the series by a bunch of posers who never played it, and it was described as a deep strategic masterpiece that was harder than 12 on lunatic. People of serenesforest would put "favorite FE: thracia 776" in their bio to make them appear elitist. Now it's generally recognized as a novelty meme game that's average in quality and unremarkable in difficulty
my memory of what sf and Ganker and /feg/ were like 10 years ago disagrees with yours, and my perception of what thracia is "now generally recognized as" also disagrees with yours
it's nowhere near as 'hard' as 12's higher difficulties but i like it better than 12 fwiw
I love how much MegaTen gays pestered the hell out of Gideon Zhi et al for taking forever to finish the patch. Well, hope it was worth it, dipshits!
I mean it was, just not for the enjoyment of the game and more about finally seeing what was behind the curtain
>Gideon
Isn't this the Black person that still hasn't finished SRWAlpha?
>16 years and it’s still not done
have a nice day, Gideon
>Game is considered a hidden untranslated gem that's the official start of the series
>Game gets a fan translation
>It's too hard for modern players to play
>People now pretend they played it after watching the Marsh video on israelitetube
Bangin' music, though.
Is there any reason to play this instead of the Kyuuyaku version?
No. Kyuukaku is better. Megami Tensei 1 and Megami Tensei 2 were literally designed to be played drawing maps on graph paper while you play. Kyuukaku adding the auto-mapper is an unbelievable quality of life improvement. Some weird people will say that NES Megami Tensei 2 has better music though and you should cope with the map and stuff in order to listen to its music.
I dunno who the frick hyped Baroque up to you but they did you a disservice. Baroque still has a small fanbase today but I think everyone who likes the game will tell you that it's not very good. People like it for the dark setting and indirect storytelling where you have to piece together the world and what happened to it on your own (before Dark Souls made those things cool). Some people also like it because it comprehensively keeps track of everything you've seen and collected so it's fun for those sort of people who like autistically completing things (like me).
I've only ever seen the Saturn / PSX version and its translation get praise in the context of being compared to the PS2 / Wii version. Some people think those latter versions "anime-ified" the game too much and lost some of the vibe.
doesnt playing 1 without map drawing make it feel even more pointless and barebones than it already is?
probably a good thing for 2, that game gets too convoluted with backtracking, misaligned starting points and all that shit
Well MT1 is pretty barebones... If you think drawing a map might make you feel more engaged with it then I guess whatever works. To be fair it's among the first monster collection games ever and that gimmick alone would've been super cool at the time
I think some Japanese website had some save passwords where you start with 5 Krishnas.
>People now pretend they played it
i have played it and its far worse to play than 1 but vastly more impressive. atlus went a long with in those 3 years
>Game is considered a hidden untranslated gem
its extreme and i dont consider that a good thing. if it just had sensible difficulty it would be good
>that's the official start of the series
very true, reasonable to praise it for that
>the Marsh video on israelitetube
decent video from what i remember but im fairly sure he uses guides, which is fine and honestly the sensible thing to do playing this shit, but it makes some of what he says 'for effect' a bit strange
Don't know about any video or who the frick that guy is but any Megami Tensei Digital Devil Story 1 chads itt?
I don't even have to pick another series.
This game wouldn’t even be that bad if I didn’t have to listen to that high pitched beep whenever I want to progress through dialogue
I've been playing this game for a year now on and off and honestly its alright. The music is underwhelming and some sections are piss easy for an atlus rpg. I just finished the VR haunted last night. And its honestly pretty boring story wise. But at least nemissa is cute enough for me to keep coming back to it.
the music, the 90s atmosphere, and nemissa herself are the highlights for me. nemissa is a legit fun character. it's no wonder she was plastered all over the marketing for the 3ds remaster.
keep dropping the game because it's not very engaging. thought itd be challenging due to its age but like you said, it's surprisingly easy.
Started playing it two weeks ago and I'm about to finish it but today I'm just like "Man, I should have picked Devil Survivor instead"
Cool art direction and Nemissa is indeed a cute. Was nice seeing La Llorona as a demon.
Fricking Black folk, SH is pure soul.
Soul does not make the game challenging, the combat interesting or the dungeons fun to explore.
>animegay is moronic
read the thread shithead
Was actually going to post this
>Oh frick girl-chan got possessed by a ghost
>Oh well who cares moving on....
The fact that they just completely gloss over this was so fricking jarring.
nemissa and her hot sexy ass, along with hitomi and her hot sexy ass was the only thing that got me through this game. It also taught me to despise the yearning for all dialog to be voiced, so i ended up playing the game with no voiced dialog
The sloth dungeon was an unreal level of awful.
The only worst dungeon I can even think of is in Everhood a hallway that takes like 5 real time hours to go through.
Was the sloth dungeon the one where you had to dig following the moon cycles?
Yep.
I had to play it on PS1 and use Gameshark to make it so each step was a moon cycle. Then I found codes that mimicked the memory check for all the old save bonuses.
Somewhat related in terms of party based dungeon diving RPGs, but I'm utterly fascinated by the JP exclusive Wizardry games that were never translated. Especially because of how fricking weird they became. How do you go from fantasy dungeon crawling to futuristic science academy shit?
Also I miss Wizardry.
IIRC that game in particular was reskinned and released as Class of Heroes for PSP so technically there is a localized version.
and then CoH2 translation shat the bed
Honestly it's a shame what the japs did to this series despite keeping it alive.
>How do you go from fantasy dungeon crawling to futuristic science academy shit?
Except for the academy part, they are called Wizardry 6, 7 and 8. And with 4, the game went full "In this moment, I'm euphoric". Trebor, Werdna and all their friends are probably the first modern weebs and that's probably the reason why the best versions of Wizardry 1, 4, 6 and 7 are all japanese exclusives.
hey you gotta admit, the antagonist of the first game becoming so smart he sees through all the lies of the gods and ascends the planes of existence is kinda funny, especially since he spent the last 90 hours stepping on landmines and getting the shit beat out of him.
this game probably sucks but that cover art is kino
>How do you go from fantasy dungeon crawling to futuristic science academy shit?
have you played wizardry?
6 ends with you flying in a space ship to another planet
yes
early d&dgays like gygax were rather liberal with the sprinkling of sci-fi bullshit in their fantasy settings. as were early crpg makers. ultima 1 (arguably the father of all crpgs) has you starting out fighting orcs outside of ye olde castle, and ends with you shooting down starships and getting in a time machine
the best weapon in the first game is blade from the cusinart brand of blenders
I wonder if its good to play
The biggest problem with ...If is that folks want it to be Persona 5. It's a pretty solid SMT with neat ideas in it.
FF Type 0
Reminder that all video game and anime girls want to be with East Asian Men only.
Not really in the same way since it was translated but Sonic CD was often called "the best 2D Sonic" for its music and aesthetic a decade ago but when SEGA removed the CD exclusivity and put it on modern consoles everybody saw through it and realized it sucked ass
weird, when i played it i realized it was a masterpiece and by far the best of the 2d games
no one ever pretended this was the best SMT game, there was purely interest in playing it because persona games referenced it
you built up the idea that it was good in your head and you're projecting your personal disappointment
so are you
hell, everyone i've seen claim it was the best did so AFTER it got rereleased
This happens with games stuck on a particular console forever too. Look at Tales of Vesperia.
most of them lol. you cant deny they're full of sovl, but there are much better games out there.
as a rule of thumb, if something is obscure it's obscure for a reason. and I mean actually obscure, not something morons pretend no one knows about like yakuza.
itll be easier naming the exceptions. SaGa, Moon, and Mother 3 come to mind.
Mother 3 is barely obscure honestly, it's probably the most well-known fan-translated game out there. Begging for Nintendo to officially localize Mother 3 is a well-trodden meme.
spoken like a true golem
Frick man this game.
>Gets hyped to hell
>Bro this one is hardcore the enemy designs are cool like smt the combat is simple but the story is dark and it has a depressing gloomy atmosphere that will make you sad and depressed
I've never played w more pretentious game in my life. No wonder it didn't get localized.
Which one is this?
There's also that Garage point n click game which turned out to be good from what I've heard.
I forgot the name of it but it had a weird spinoff sequel remake on the Wii and I think ps2. It's about angels.
Oh. Baroque?
Played Baroque on PS2 and I liked played it but frick actually finishing it. People can't differentiate between something being obtuse and underexplained to be mysterious and being a shit game with very little direction.
Yeah. Just getting to the end of the labyrinth isn't that big a deal once you get the hang of the gameplay, but once you get to the point where progress involves
>randomly finding a particular rare item in the tower
>making it out of the tower with said item
>guessing which npc I'm randomly supposed to give it to
It just became too much. I don't like playing games with a guide so I just dropped it. Anons always say the PS1/Saturn version is better but idk.
How I managed to get all the Baroques and had a broken setup with the Me Brand and some other insane trickery to give yourself 99/198 Attack and Defense is beyond me.
I only played the wii version. I think it was "don't go crazy" in that one
The main reason people were interested in Garage was a combination of looking uniquely bizarre while also being so rare to find due to limited production and distribution
Then it got a fricking official translation and steam release like a year ago for some reason
i think the problem is that you guys just aren't in the mindset. it's one of those games where you actually have to forego the guide and let your curiosity take over, or in other words, learn to enjoy games like you used to as a kid. this and xenogears taught me to stop using the guide, stop using savestates, stop being afraid of failure states and just let my imagination run wild to enjoy video games again, or in the words of kaga, stop worrying about the perfect ending and just learn to have fun AND PLAY THE FRICKING VIDEO GAME, not just someone else's glorified let's play
>xenogears
Odd example, Xenogears is piss easy and simple to understand.
it's what helped me get out of my comfort zone since before i used to play jrpgs pretty linearly, and xenogears somehow made grinding sort of fun with the deathblow system
I honestly felt like Kaga threw his "bro just ironman it" mentality out the window after FE3, FE4 if we are being lenient, if we look at FE5s insane ranking scores (although to be fair, these may have been put in place by someone after he left the team) and just how much details on the plot or the world do you lose on in the Saga games if you let people die willy nilly, which is why i think he added the save state staff in TRS and let you save every 5 turns in BS and VS1 (which got dumbed down into saving anytime you wish in VS2)
>if we look at FE5s insane ranking scores
fe5's rankings aren't crazy. just beat the game in relatively few turns and recruit all the characters and that's SSS. (you probably need to look up a guide to get Xavier though)
fe4 was the one with crazy Ranked scores. but it had a once-per-turn savestate.
god i wish i was her brother
More like fat translation
why can't those old cucks at atlus put the official soundtracks for their games on streaming platforms, most cd rips are from 12 years ago and have shit quality
>Low quality, stick-like legs
I will not play your game.
Easy answer.
driving rpg?
>garbage game with terrible driving physics
>story is somehow more cringe than the bastard child of Initial D and Wangan Midnight
>translation done "by committee" by the shittiest TL outfit that appeals to normies the most, Hilltop
moron gets $800 patreon shekels each month to dole out tasks to his team of morons who do it FOR FREE.
I hate that kusoge as you can't believe.
almost all atlus games
For me it was easily Captain Rainbow. Love Moon, Chulip, Chibi-Robo!, those strange Tingle games etc. but CR is a legit bad game.
Sonic CD was this until they ported it to PS3/360 and Steam because nobody bought a Sega CD or Gems Collection
Frick you, crossbell is peak comfy
Ao jumped the shark hard compared to Zero's comfy, it felt like a Cold Steel game.
Nah Ao is the best game in the series. The core conflict is the absolute strongest as it doesn't rely on magic-wank like the other arcs, just a single person's (non-antagonistic) feelings leading them to try to be something they ultimately aren't. Series could have and likely should have ended there.
Was looking for some contrarian moron to post this. We get it you can't play a game with out Rean.
On the subject of fantranslationhomosexualry, two games received patches recently:
First one is pic, Ecsaform, and apparently is a futuristic srpg with good story, art and music or so says the translator.
And the second one is a Nakoruru (the samsho character) VN.
If anyone cares, to check them out.
Haven't played either of them so can't confirm or deny their quality.
>Ecsaform
neat
Higurashi and Umineko
when the frick were those considered untranslated gems?
higurashi was translated before umineko was even created so I'm dubious of this timeline
If... is completely fine if you remove the Sloth dungeon.
>fan "trans"lation
Should have learned moon runes, you low IQ homosexual.
This exact shit happening over and over again is a big reason why I dropped Japanese. I fell for the "EOP" meme for a bit. Then I slowly started finding out that all of these magic, hidden gems were actually just straight garbage, and were usually passed over for translation for a reason. All the good games get official translations, or the fan-translators beeline for it. What's left is sheer shit.
>the fan-translators
See
i'm confused that the fan "translation" earned scare quotes but the PSP "translation" didn't
All three translations have value. What is your point?
The WotL version makes 100% sense in context since they re-framed the scene entirely.
Delita is talking to Agrias in the PS1 original. Agrias shouts at him to stop, and Delita replies.
Delita is talking to Ovelia immediately after punching her in the gut in the remake. Agrias and Ramza only enter the building AFTER Delita has spoken the iconic line and started leaving.
morons who try to complain about this being a localization issue are being fooled into taking your shitty screencaps at face value alone, and it is clear that they played neither game to have an actual informed opinion on the subject.
Wrong
nta and haven't play fft but what difference does any of that make? i'm confused
The real redpill is studying enough Japanese you begin to find original Japanese bland and are now hungry for spoony bard tier localisations just so you don't go fricking insane from all the Yakuwarigo and repetitive Japanese.
And a tip to every college student studying Japanese in this thread and hoping to relocalise older games to be true to the creator's original intent: Unless your relocalisation project is on a scale like Ar Tonelico 2 don't even fricking bother.
>you begin to find original Japanese bland and are now hungry for spoony bard tier localisations just so you don't go fricking insane from all the Yakuwarigo and repetitive Japanese
I didn't even need to get that far into Japanese to find this redpill, but I'm so glad I did. Finding out that 90% of Japanese conversations are platitudes, catchphrases, quirky speech impediments was a real buzzkill. Then finding out that the last 10% are incredibly basic b***h lower-lifeform takes on aged philosophy imported from the west was even worse.
Frick Japanese.
You don't understand Japanese.
>t. college student studying Japanese and hoping to retranslate games from 30 years ago
well… thats depressing
>says he didn't get that far into Japanese
>makes bold assertions that are absolutely false
You're bullshitting.
If you're not, post your bookmeter right now and show the class the last 20 novels you've read in Japanese.
>platitudes, catchphrases, quirky speech impediments
That sounds familiar.
Yeah but the kanji for "rape" is the kanji for "women" three times as well as "strong" and you cannot tell me that isn't funny.
N4-kun, please keep with your anki reps
えと...あの...えと...
i can read that heh heh he h ehe h
Can you translate that for me? I'm in my 3rd year of Japanese at college and hope to be an English teacher in Japan one day before I beceome a game translator.
What's confusing me is that 'to' means "with" or "when" but then what does the singular e mean and why wouldn't they use the kanji for house? and I've never seen the ano particle either and genki 2 doesn't have anything about it.
thanks, arigatoo gozaimasu!
i dont know man… Frick you, i think the guy is just stammering or somethin
that's why you need learning outside the classroom, there's too much stuff they don't teach you in textbooks
絵と阿の絵と
"paintings and Paintings of Africa, with", it's a very common expression that originated in the meiji era after british diplomats showed the emperor a landscape painting of niger
trying too hard
>I'm in my 3rd year of Japanese at college and hope to be an English teacher in Japan one day before I beceome a game translator.
Yeah, I'm not taking your bait. There's no way you could be that bad or unaware of how to look up such basic shit.
I agree that straight Japanese is atrocious but rewrites that change the story/canon suck.
Who's played and beaten Megami Tensei's Telenet top down game on the PC-88?
>tfw the actual hidden gem among hidden gems will never receive a translation
same, but with this series
Oh, this happens a LOT, like some other anons said it happens with games that aren't readily available to people too, like with Sonic CD and shit like pulseman before emulation and ports made em easier to find.
As for fan translation, I was pretty dissapointed by EX Troopers, I'm glad people finally were able to translate it but the game is just too repetitive, it would have been nice to have a functional 3rd person shooter on the 3ds but it quickly becomes a slog to play so I see why they didn't bring it over.
I also hated Blood of Bahamut, genuinely terrible despite looking nice.
I remember people saying MegaMan battle network 4.5 was the best one, I was pretty dissapointed when I got to it
I suffer every day because we'll never have translated Kenka bancho 6 I'm pretty sure it's basically the same as the PSP game though
>Any other examples of this happening?
Final Fantasy Type-0.
The 3rd Birthday.
Trails in the Sky SC and Trails to Azure to a certain degree, since the latter gets good until halfway through. In fact, each new Trails falls for this. CS2 was a masterpiece until it was translated, then CS3 was a masterpiece until was translated, then CS4, but nowadays Reviere and Kuro 1/2 are the hidden masterpieces that EOPs will never understand.
>The 3rd Birthday.
I have never seen anyone anywhere on earth share a positive opinion of this game.
Mine was ok. I don't remember it though.
Who calls 3rd Birthday a good game?
everyone used to dismiss this as a janky proto FE7 and only relatively recently has it been held in higher regard.
And now people hate FE7 instead.
lyn mode, weather, long defense chapters and battle before dawn are truly awful so it's deserved
Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition turned out to be the grindiest and most stressfull JRPG experience I've ever had because it's so jam packed full of missables that it's litterally impossible to 100% the game even if you've played through it a dozen times. All those combo videos where deceitful as frick, literally NG++++ with all the Grade shop bonuses unlocked + every move used 10,000 times to unlock all its properties and a guide followed to the letter to get all the costumes + joke weapons and title. FRICK that game. I have never been so disappointed with a game in my life. The only time I came close is when I bought Star Ocean 5, but I'd begun to get hyped for that game maybe a few months before release, I didn't have it dangled in front of me by Japanese speakers for like a decade. If I got a genie bottle with three wishes, I would use one to go back in time and tell myself while I was playing Tales of Graces and Xillia 1+2 that those games are actually 100 times better then Vesperia, it would have saved me so much anguish.
I've played a little of If and I thought it was cool, if quite a bit harder than 1 or 2. I'm thinking of playing more of it sometime soon. Last Megaten game I finished was KMT2 and it's good, but has a lot of little issues that get on my nerves.
If is a fun game, only part that's bullshit is World of Sloth. Having multiple paths depending on your companion is fresh and Akira's route is the best one.
Yeah, I definitely wanna finish it. I didn't get far so I'll restart. My problem was trying to marathon it after SMT2, Nocturne, SJ, 4, and 5 all back to back with no breaks (bit a break between 4 and 5 since 5 wasn't out yet when I finished 4).
Hey, weird question that's on topic with RPG's but not with SMT: Is there anything else like Dragon Slayer II: Xanadu out there? I just finished Scenario 1 some time ago and it became one of my favorite games ever.
The entire Metal Max series barring Xeno is legit hidden gems. I'm so glad a competent and fast translation group has picked up translating the games, because they ready knocked out Metal Max 2 and 3 back to back and are working on 4. I feel so fricking blessed, I love these quirky sandbox tank rpgs.
Damn, I just looked up the discord because the group's old site no longer exists, and rather than bad news (even though it's presented as bad news) I just find a message from a couple months ago stating the progress and asking fans for help to solve the known issues. I waited like 5+ years for Absolute Zero to finish tales of Rebirth and Destiny translations with zero results, but these madlads are like 60% done after a year. God Bless these tank loving autists.
Tales fans and translating shit is a recipe for disaster holy shit. You could serve a full prison sentence and still have no progress.
Most translation attempts go nowhere, the groups usually break up because of drama or lack of interest. For every single completed translation patch there are like 10 abandoned attempts. The only reason Tales translation groups get more scrutiny is because the series is moderately popular in the west thanks to Tales of Symphonia being the only full fledged action JRPG on the gamecube, even though the game is thoroughly mid.
>Tales
You mean the moralgay fanbase so deluded that the main translation hub was hosted on Namco's official forums, up until Namco nuked all forum discussions in 2012 when they started localizing those games again?
Then a part 2 of that apocalypse with absolute zero nuking everything past or present and that group's remaining legacy being a troll blog dedicated to Tales of Hearts DS and a Tales of Tempest April Fools joke translation that DID happen?
Or the one time resetera members behind Geofront tried to "lay claim" to all Tales games, claiming it's all nearly finished and at 75% completion, and urging people not to support any of the remaining authors or people that did the text translation guides they're shitting on but using anyways (just like with Falcom series)... and then had some weird feud with the other remaining active independent projects and accused them of using machine translation?
Just learn Japanese at this point.
>and then had some weird feud with the other remaining active independent projects and accused them of using machine translation?
Well, that wasn't really an accusation. Life Bottle really DID use machine translation for some of the side dialogue in Destiny DC, but eventually the project attracted way more contributors who went back and edited most, if not all, of that text with manual translations.
Someone please translate Devil Summoner ffs
the lazy fat Black person cj iwakura is working on it, Maybe some other translator will handle it and cuck him like persona 2 EP psp
You have the translated script. I've played the psp version and it was enjoyable. There ain't much text in general, similar to SMT 1 or 2.
People here seem to know their stuff. Unrelated question? I played through persona 2: innocent sin and didn't like it that much, i finished it so that says something but i don't want to play continuation. Is persona 4 much better? Friend of mine said to stay away from p3 because of gameplay (something about randomly generated school levels) and story being too much of a typical anime. He says p4 is great though, but he also loves p2 so much that he was in the fan translation team of p2 to russian.
Persona 4 is definitely leagues better than 2 in terms of gameplay and the story is endearing (albeit a basic Scooby Doo detective story) but relies on the Social Links to do a LOT of the heavy lifting. 3 has a better primary story because of lot more of it is centralized in the main plot but imo the social links are generic at best and awful at worst aside from a few exceptions. Consider playing 1 on an emulator if you weren't a fan of 2 since the combat doesn't put you to sleep like 2 and the cast is solid.
yeah 2 dragged on way too fricking long. IS + EP Nathan route + EP Ellen route took me 300h
I hope to play 1 but there is not definitive version
Thank you, i probably try P4 on PC, something were missing from p2, i hope i can find it in p4
3 is actually a really strong entry on its own, though at this point I would just wait for the remake early next year. 4 is good, but the hour long intro is something you have to be prepared to sit through.
Doing just that, started p4, will finish when p3r comes out
it's funny because persona 1-2 were pure persona gameplay without the dating sim crap. that's why I think 1 was the best (2 can suck a dick)
>b-but p-persona started wi-
shut the frick up
Bro, p1 has random encounters not just in dungeons.
It wasn't that people finally played it and realized it was shit, it was that by the time the english translation came out it was already fricking ancient so all of about 3 guys bothered to play it
I remember before it got translated I made a post about how I was looking forward to being able to play it at some point and someone insisted to me that it's actually shit. I dismissed what he said and chose to believe I'd like it, but he was right, mostly anyway, I don't know if I'd say it's shit but it's not good in any case. The Domain of Sloth is still the worst dungeon I've ever seen in a game.
I wonder how people will feel about Fate/Extra CCC if the translation ever comes out
>man this story is shit
>probably the fan translation is shit?
4 years of learning japanese later
>go back to game but in JP only this time
>man... this story IS shit
Many such cases. Nothing cures being a weeb faster than learning Japanese.
what did you think every single story written by japanese people was good or something?
>are the troonylators incompetent and moronic?
>no, it's the game that's wrong
Always good for a laugh.
The translation has nothing to do with quality of gameplay.
>translation having anything to do with how a game plays
Lol translators have completely broken the EOP subhumans
>game gets translated
>instantly move onto the next game on the list and claim it was 10x better all along
Works every time. What's that, Amagami got a shitty patch? Who cares, Kimikiss was better. Sakura Wars got a translation? ST2 was always the better game.
>kimikiss
>better
top fricking kek you are moronic
I'll die on this hill, buddy.
Yes, same.
Man, I thought you might be the same fricking guy. Couldn't tell without the pointless 日本語 larp.
Rance series except 7
Just remember boys, this is the destiny of every girl you don't go after.
no girl ever wanted to walk home together, or talk to me longer thna needed. Its funny how normalgays try to project their own failure on actual failures

Most of them, there is a reason they don't get translated in the first place.
An example of the opposite.
People claimed the crossbell games were the best in the series, I thought they were full of it because the game wasn't translated and they wanted to be smug. The fan translation comes out and it turns out they were right. Probably just a fluke
Yeah, the fact that a bunch of people played through the crappy, unfinished leak of the old PSP translation of Zero and still had a great time was a testament to the overall quality of the game.
2/3rds of Project Rainfall
>2/3rds of Project Rainfall
Agreed. Pandora's Tower was the only good one.
Brother. I want the 10+ hours I put into giving TLS a chance back.
the only genuinely bad part of the game is the world of greed (only made tolerable by the dialogues and the zombie girls (don't judge me)), in every other aspect it's easily the best game of the snes trilogy
*world of sloth, i'm a fricking idiot
I disagree for so many reasons I can't even begin to list them
>it's easily the best game of the snes trilogy
Not while SMT 2 exists.
This is the real reason anons don't want official translations.
If you read HG101's articles on Japanese obscure games you find a common trend: the games are mediocre or outright suck.
So those untranslated games being revealed to be dogshit when they get a fan translation shouldn't be a surprise for anyone.
HG101 isn't a particularly great source, either.
Shit like them giving that nutcase translator MGS2 attention. Too much goonish western exceptionalism to it.
any place i can read digital devil story: megami tensei
Have you tried/smtg/'s geocity page for any dl links.
Regardless, I'm not too sure whether they got translated fully
>geocities
didn't that service shut down
>Aeon Genesis only releases the translation because someone else picked it up
God I fricking hate that dude
It's no Landstalker.
>hearing good things about the game
>fan translation comes out at the same time as the HD remaster announcement
>get my PSP
>play it
>delete it days later
I honestly thought XIII was the worst FF game I've played, but Type-0 ranks above it.
